Title: HEAD-SCRATCHING BEHAVIOR
Post by: bk on February 19, 2014, 12:28:35 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were head-scratching and had behavior, and now it is time for you to post until the head-scractching cows come home.

Good morning, all! I'm a bit sleepy today but i am ready for physical therapy! I don;t feel disorganized or confused, and I know where my phone is.

After that, I will stop at the post office on my way home.  I may do laundry this afternoon. and I'd like to finish the orchestrations for the Cincinnati choral piece.

I need to hit the corner bodega. I am out of milk and laundry detergent.

Coffee!

Good morning, all.

Had a wonderful sleep which culminated in the weirdest damn dream playing over and over, each replay embellishing on the ones before it.  But it is so good to have that lousy cold on its way out of the building.  Concurrent with the lousy cold and the recovery therefrom is the LOUSY weather also being on its way out of the building for the next several days.  Today through Sunday we're in a 40+ degree THAW which will hit 50 on Friday and Saturday.  The outdoors still looks like HELL, of course, but there will be no work to do out there for a while.  I should take some photographic evidence.

Coffee!  Toast!

I forgot to answer about dandruff yesterday.  I have to think that no one in my family knew anything at all about hair care.  I remember having some dandruff, and using Head and Shoulders, probably way too much.  My mom and dad always had bottles of the stuff in the house, even decades later.  Oy!

I'm guessing from now on you do a scent test first ;)

Surprisingly I had smelled it first. Sometimes it's not always obvious to me. Certain things (like perfumes) are obvious. But sometimes i think i like the smell (maybe it's lemon) and then only after does it bother me. This happens sometimes with hand creams.

I've found the one smell that never seems to bother me is vanilla.

Dear BK,
Do you think Stephen Findle might some day do a "high school version" of a really adult show that would be funny when you tame it down? Something like "Spring Awakening." Maybe the other Dear Readers could think of some others.

That would be just a little different than making musicals from movies.

I never heard of this one.  I hope it clears up quickly.

It is common for people to think they have dandruff when what they have is a dry scalp.  Head and shoulders can exasperate a dry scalp.

I am feeling much better today, thank you.

I am getting some things together to do a swing dance class for the brothers of Delta Upsilon at DePauw this Friday night.  It should be fun....it's mostly for the pledge class that weren't there last year, although I am sure some of the others will be down at our end of the ballroom.

YES I do like my DWTS partner.  Her name is Sharon, she is the county treasurer.  We are doing a routine to Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking" instead of what I originally planned, just because that will be more fun.

If I could nominate someone for euthanasia ASAP, it would be the manager of my local post office.  I detest this woman for her general stupidity and mismanagement.  It's 12:20, the line is endless, there's no place to sit so you have to stand in line, and there are two clerks on duty during the lunch hour crush. Only ne of the clerks has a customer who's either seeing a million packages or flirting because there's lots of laughter and he's at her window from 12:20, when I got in line, to 12:50 when I finally mailed my package and left.

I was so pissed off over the painful standing, the endless wait - I was third in line and waited 30 minutes! - that I lost a good friend. I had to take a taxi from there to the bank since I did not plan my itinerary well today, and I left my cane in the taxi, my best friend of the past six months. I got to the door of the bank and realized my cane was heading up Broadway without me, and I had to go to a surgical supplies pharmacy on 45h ad Broadway and purchase a new one. I don't like it nearly as well.

Elmore, I don't think I congratulated you on the choral work for Cincinnati. Hope it's so good you get more work out of it.

Thanks!  I just got an inquiry about availability for work from Alex Rybeck, and I hope that comes through. One singer whose Christmas album I did asked me twice about expanding the charts fem a combo to an orchestra, and twice I put a budget together, giving him a really good discount for symphony work, and a copyist ready to go,and had no answer. It turn out he had someone else do the new orchestrations, and I am assuming he found someone who'd do it for very little. I hope it stinks.

I'm getting a little tired of singers who work steadily and everywhere, wanting to pay as little as possible for work they'll be using the rest of their careers.

Oh, that is awful, losing the cane like that!!

I do know that items greater and lesser than that have been recovered from taxis.  Can you at least call the TLC (?) right away, and request they do whatever they do to put the word out?  It's not impossible the driver would get it back to you.  And at least you'll know you tried.

Lots of e-mails this morning.  Juliana Hansen asked if I could do an early lunch, so I'm meeting her in forty-five minutes.  Once back from that, I'll finish the commentary and work on the liner notes.  I'm despairing of ever getting my second blurb, so may just go with the one, although I've asked someone else to do it and have just sent him the book.

I have this as a book, i think. I hadn't thought about this in years. "Just Good friends" used to perform at a lot of Chorus fundraiser; then the late Fred Goldhaber, who had  radio show on WBAI, had us on as guests several times. I used to have a cassette of those broadcast numbers, and I have no idea what happened to it. I'd give to to Anthony Morelli to transfer to mp3 if I could find it.

Our big numbers were a pop ballad "Flying," by my late friend Thom Heinrichs, "Doggy Walkin' Boy" by Thom and Alan Dreyfood, "Push De Button" by Harold Arlen, "Old Friend" by Cryer and Ford, which the Men's Chorus recorded after Just Good friends broke up, "April Love," "Shoop Shop Song," and "Here, There and Everywhere." There were more that I no longer recall, and i don't even know where the arrangements are. Possibly at the Library of Congress? Then I worked with the doo-wop group J.Q and the Bandits.

I had my hair cut this afternoon.  I was going to swim first but there wasn't enough time for it to dry before my appointment.  Now I won't be swimming for a while since I also added a little color to my hair.  The ends need to be darkened to match my natural hair color & when I swim the water strips the color back out of the ends.

The hubby and I did go to the library yesterday.

This is what I took out:

CATHERINE COOKSON ANTHOLOGY, THE SECRET (DVD)
CATHERINE COOKSON ANTHOLOGY, TILLY TROTTER(DVD)
THE SILENT LADY, BY CATHERINE COOKSON (BOOK)

I have already watch some of the Cookson Anthology DVD's and really liked them.

DVDS:

ONE DAY
ONLY GOD FORGIVES
THE TENANT
THERESE
LADY CHATTERLEY
THE SONG OF LUNCH
WINNIE MANDELA
SARAH'S KEY
THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST
RENOIR
MEATBALLS ( I already saw this many years ago)

Has anyone seen these or read the book?

I would love some comments!

I do not recall ever seeing that photo of us in the rainbow shirts. Was I ever that skinny? Why don't I have a copy of that photo? Did no one ever show it to me or let me ask for a copy?

Still, such sad photos. There are so many friends who died far too early.

I'm sorry about your friends :(

Between 1984 and 1995, during the greatest part of the AIDS crisis, I lost far too many friends of both sexes in the Chorus, the theatre, the music world, and my personal ilife. Once the madness, the rumors, the horror, the hospitalizations and the deaths began, it was a daily nightmare: trips to hospitals, trips to apartments, countless and it now seems endless memorial services for friends and friends of friends, dealing with the politics of a recalcitrant administration, making a quilt, marching on Washington. My first casualty was a brilliant theatre director Stuart White, then his partner Clifford, then Bill Tynes, producer of the New Amsterdam Theatre Company, my music copyist Fred, the Chelsea Music printer Joe Cantlin, the Chelsea Music printer Larry Taylor. You'd go to visit Larry Taylor in hospital and fight with Marcia Lewis and Liz Minnelli to get into his room to visit. Then Howie Phillips, a friend of DR Ginny's and mine, then my friend Rick Snelling whose brother and sister-in-law were my parents' neighbors in Ohio, people I did shows with at Cohoes Music Hall and other places.

The Men's Chorus was decimated. I don't go to their concerts any more but when I did and I would read the casualty list in the back of the program, all I could think of was how many I still remembered and missed and how many I'd sadly forgotten. And there are others who've simply vanished. Where are they now? Alive? Who knows? They all died so young with so much to give and so much to look forward to.

And those of us who survived must never let the story die. And people wonder why I rage and why i'm angry.

DR George, thank you! How the hell did you do that?

I downloaded it and sometimes images from pdf files can be copies.  If you click on a picture (and it's going to work), the image will be highlighted in blue.  Then you just right-click, select "Copy image" (usually, that's the only option), then you can paste it into an image editing software.  Here at work, we only have Microsoft Paint, but it works.

DR Elmore, love the photos of the "old days"

I hated that striped shirt!  I think I'm eating it in both photos. I think we were supped to wear them for the BLUEBOY photo shoot, so I showed up in mine and the other three had decided to wear something else. We had a costumer who quit because the three guys were impossible: she'd be up all night making alterations on coats or trousers and behind her back the three would decide to wear something else.  She had found us great doorman uniforms in a pile of apartment trash and refurbished them for us and they decided it was going to be too hot at the street fair to wear them. I was not sorry to see the act fall apart.
