I was looking through the Warner Archive TV Collection and came across a show that our own Bruce Kimmel perhaps played for the only time a villain. In it he played a bellman terrorizing Patricia Neal. It was the last episode of Ghost Story that morph with the next episode as Circle of Fear. It can be bought. Too bad you can't get just that one episode.

Hello Everyone....there's a new edition of the Broadway Radio Show up for your listening enjoyment. This time we take in some murder and mayhem with musicals about Dr. Crippen, Sweeney Todd, Mr. Hyde, Roxie Hart, etc......and, of course Broadway's newest and most delightful new culprit, Monty Navarro, the main character of A Gentleman's Guide To Love And Murder -- that's right, we also sample selections from this brand new cast recording. Give it a listen!

Happy Birthday to DR DAN M.

I am working on my routine for DWTS.....it is coming along nicely.....we will rehearse it Sunday for the first time.
-
Hmmmm....
TOD:
My friend Vickie who encouraged me in my theater endeavors....and continues to do so....
My friend Bryan who brought me into professional theatre in Indianapolis where I have had some great experiences....and only a few less than good.
-
Happy Birthday to Dan M!
-
TOD:
My high school drama teacher, Mrs. Borgstrom, who I've written about, was a major influence. She, years later, confessed that she had never directed a play before the one I had the lead in, but she believed in me and gave me what was the high point in my entire high school career.
Them there were people in Hollywood (e.g. Diane McBain, Michael Ansara, Stanley Rubin, Jack Miller, Steve Kanaly, Henry Darrow, etc.) who, long before I ever sold a script, read my material and continually encouraged me not to give up.
I am very fortunate to have had all of these people in my life.

Good morning, all! I slept late, since I will be out until late this evening. This is day two of the ROBERTA sessions; we begin at 2:00pm, with most of the cast. Jason Graae joins us today, and his energy will kick things up. We'll do the two scenes with Stephen Cole first so he can get back to his other tasks, and at 3:00 the seven Collegians will arrive. We'll record bits and pieces until 5:00, break for dinner, return at 6:00 and record a short musical number with Jason, Patrick, Tally and the Collegians, send Tally and Patrick off to their evening performances, and spend most of the night with Jason and the boys on the HUGE comedy specialty.
Yesterday was a 1969-1973 nostalgia blast; I tracked down and talked on the phone for about four hours to one of my best Miami University theatre friends. I last saw him in 1973, when two friends and I drove from Ohio to Manhattan for the opening of CANDIDE at the Broadway Theatre. In 1994, I last spoke to him on a sympathy call after a horrible car crash killed his wife and seriously injured his two children. At that point they were living in upstate NY near Poughkeepsie, and we lost touch after that. My life got crazy working with a wonderful producer who kept calling me with work and a record label called Varese Sarabande, which led to other recording and regional theatre work, and Steve had a life to rebuild and two children to heal.
And, since I'm already in a nostalgia blitz, let's jump to the TOD:
Roses Mull: my fifth grade teacher who rescued me from a morass of anxiety, fear, and misery
Valda Wilkerson and Helen Weinberger: junior high and high school music teachers, who cared, made music, and inspired
Robert Kane: four years of college Latin; best. instructor. ever.
James Martin: allowed me to experiment with an orchestra and learn my craft with lvd players
The Chad Mitchell Trio and Judy Collins: performers who taught me whatever political awareness I now possess and that satire and music are often the most powerful tools in addressing an issue. I am grateful that in the past 30 years I have told the Trio and Ms Collins how much I owe to them.
-
I'm up, barely. And I do mean barely.

From DR Singdaw:
Does anyone here have a SodaStream machine? I don't drink soda, but I do like to drink seltzer. The "flavor" cartridges look like they might be expensive, but if I only use if for the C02, it looks like it almost might be worth it. Just wondering if any DR has a perspective on this.
Keith says:
It cost about $18, in Ashland, if you can return the canister. We purchased smaller bottles to use vs the larger 32 oz (5 bathrooms worth) which lose some fizz over a few days. Keith uses flavor once in awhile but prefers the plain soda water.
Depending how much fizz you want the smaller bottles last 60-120 uses on the cartridge.
Do the math. It is a reasonable alternative to purchasing soda water cans & not having to save the cans to return them.
We have a place in town that has the option to return the used cartridge for a discount towards the new one.

Here's to another great day of sessions for DR Elmore!

Just came from a fun lunch with some of the committee members at our neighborhood golf club. Now I'm home regrouping for a major grocery shopping trip.

Afternoon, all! Happiest of birthdays to Dan M!
TOD: I've been blessed with many wonderful teachers, but one that I particularly remember was Dr. C, my high school history teacher. I was always a science nerd, and, while I did well in Dr. C's class, history was my least favorite subject. One time during club hour, I was rehearsing my science fair presentation to two other members of the science club. Dr. C walked by the classroom, saw what I was doing, and sat in on my presentation so that I would have an audience and better rehearse. A small gesture, but one that moved me greatly, and one that I got to thank him for many years later.

My best Birthday Wishes to DR Dan M!

Happy birthday, Dan M!
Thank you DR John G!

TOD:
Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim, to a kid who listened to music that was far from what was popular at the time, they offered lessons in being a wordsmith that I use all the time.
Esteban Cardenas, my primary ballroom dance instructor.
Carol Yeager. The last is a long-time friend who got me to go back to college to get my master's. Beyond that, she got me involved in the concept of student-directed learning and facilitated a class in creativity that was a real eye-opener.

DR Singdaw if you do decide to get the SodaStream, and decided to try one of the flavors....never, ever put the flavor in before fizzing the drink. The directions say to do it after carbonating, however, Keith decided to add root beer to the drink first-WHAT A MESS HE MADE ;D

And I am home! I had expected the Big Number t take forever. but the Collegians and Jason Graae are a formidable verew and we finished very early. Judy offered to drive me home, and here I am.
Everyone was in fine fettle and we got lots of good things down on tape. I am very very impressed with the talent on this recording. It's a most excellent group!
We begin tomorrow morning at 11:00, and I suspect we will finish by 2:00.

The people who made the biggest difference to me where those adults to stepped up and helped me in my teen years when life was so difficult at home. There were too many of them to name, including my best friend's mother. Without her I would not have had a sweet 16 party and she also made my wedding veil. A dear special woman who died way too young.
-
The woman who had the most influence was the woman who told me to date Keith and of course doing so was the best and smartest thing I ever did.
Her name was Glynis. She worked for my family and did miracles with my mother. She was my confident who knew everything in our family so I could be totally free to talk about how I felt and what I was coping with. She also made it possible for me to have friends at the house again and would convince my mother I needed more stylish clothes. She helped me to appreciate my good qualities.
Glynis waited until I moved out of the house before finding a new job. From us she went to work in a mental ward of a hospital-lol

I'm thinking about sharing the cover art in tomorrow's notes. Depends if he did further tweaks after sending it to me, which I kind of hope he didn't, as we all absolutely love what he sent the last time. I've asked him to send me the final if he DID tweak a little.

DR Jane, Glynis sounds like a special and wonderful woman, and you are fortunate to have had her in your life.

All my TOD folk were teachers who took an interest in me and inspired me, long after I was in their classes. I have been fortunate to have had 4 or 5 such nurturing souls in my life.

TOD
1. My first grade teacher who taught me to read and instilled a love of reading that I have never lost
2. My childhood Pastor and several of the adults of my congregation who taught me what loving your neighbor truly meant
3. The woman that introduced me to Vixdad
4. The lady at the library who let a kid go on the "blue haired ladies" trip to 1776 on Broadway and every other theatre trip for the next few years and introduced me to the joy of live theatre
5. The guy at my college that suggested I go to a square dance at a church by me - that led to me joining a group in that church for young adults which led to me meeting most of the people I hold as my nearest and dearest friends to this day- including the lady that introduced me to Vixdad

Happy Birthday DR Dan M!
Thanks so much DR DakotaCelt. Just got back from a great time.

I guess my biggest cheerleaders who helped me learn outside of my parents were my paternal grandparents and a maternal great aunt. I didn't really have a teacher who was interested in teaching a person with hearing loss so my school teachers, I don't hold in the highest regard. My Maternal grandparents also encouraged reading. It is something I still actively do.
My great aunt taught me to read and explore. She encouraged me to read her collection of National Geographics and explore the world to learn different ideas and cultures. I even picked up a few foreign words here and there. I am still a geography and culture geek to this day! :-)
My paternal grandparents encouraged me to learn about the natural world by observing and reading. They were also music fans. Granted, It was polka, torch, and country music but I was still taught to keep an open mind. It wasn't a bad thing either, it allowed me to be curious about other music genres as I grew older.
Going to plays with a dear friend and his twin sister. He passed away but I kept my appreciation of the performing arts. Still cant listen to one Sondheim song yet without absolving into tears. He used to sing it. Still have a tough time with with Little Night Music and especially the song, SEnd in the Clowns. He used to sing it, albeit off key.
To a dear cousin who introduced me to the BBC. The BBC allowed me to listen to broadcasts and gain a different perspective. It also allowed me to gain respect for other perspectives.
