TOD:Interestingly enough, my two nephews were staying with us at the time all that happened, so we were trying to keep things light and normal around them so they wouldn't worry. I ended up only getting bits and pieces as I tried to find what was happening and ended up really missing all of that.
I remember watching a lot of television at the time of Princess Diana's death. Not that it was an impactful news story like what's going on in the Ukraine right now,, but I was surprised at how much it affected me.
More recently, of course, the events of 9/11 consumed me in print reports and television. Now, I try to avoid video replays on the anniversaries, because they give me nightmares.
Peeling potatoes and carrots is great manual therapy.
DR Elmore, what time will the soup be ready?
Geez, I don't think I've had a vegetable beef soup since the last time my mother opened a can of Campbell's.
And the word of the day is: GALAVANT!
On the CNN documentary "and the Oscar goes to..." the other night, they showed the most delightful clip of presenter Glynis Johns reading an acceptance speech from an absent actor. It was hilarious!
Does anyone know/can anyone remember what year/what actor? I've searched online for the clip and cannot find it.
But a festival very-high-up who was in that small Sunday-night audience liked it a lot, enough to suggest to us that he'd like to try to arrange to reprise it this summer and adding to it, to make for a longer event.
~ ~ ~ PAIN-FREE VIBES ~ ~ ~ for DR Laura. Are you slobbering all over yourself?
Yes, DR Laura - better every day! :)
no soup today
Michael Ansara was also in VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and Russell Johnson was in another Sci-Fi classic THE SPACE CHILDREN, which I watched just last night.

NO SOUP FOR YOU!!

I wonder just who makes the decision to leave certain people out. It isn't right.
Good morning. I had two ancient fillings replaced today, and the novocaine is starting to wear off. Such problems.
But better than the alternative.
Great news on your show's success, DR FJL! :)
How do you feel about expanding it?
A book sounds like a good idea DR DAN M.
Yes - I would read it!

I have to give them the benefit of the doubt on most of the names folks have mentioned the past two days. Most made their mark in TV...not movies. And even those who were in the movies made a more significant contribution (the qualifying element) in television.
Just sayin'.

Thank you both for the encouragement!

I didn't like the fact that we were permitted to return to work way too soon, while the air was still pungent with the chemicals, the burning and (sorry to say) the smell of death and decomposition.
I spent the entire day thrusting the paper at every co-worker, and hollering "did you see THIS?"
Are any of our NY DRs going to see Emma Thompson and Bryn Terfel in the NY Phil Sweeney Todd?

As expected, Saturday's late show was well-attended, even more than the opening performance. But Sunday's 7 pm (on Oscar night) was a small audience mainly of friends and family of all involved, and some of the people from the other shows in the festival came as guests. But a festival very-high-up who was in that small Sunday-night audience liked it a lot, enough to suggest to us that he'd like to try to arrange to reprise it this summer and adding to it, to make for a longer event.

Good afternoon, all!
I'm a little late to the party today, as it was my first day off from a heap of things in the couple of weeks since I left the Arctic.
BK, thank you for the kind words and especially for the wonderful music to sing last night. For those who may have missed the details, BK did a brilliant put-together of "Hey, There" from Pajama Game and "Not a Day Goes By" from Merrily We Roll Along, and I got to sing it. And singing "Pretty Women" from Sweeney is a banquet in itself for me.
Funny thing is, I awoke hearing Jenna's "Glamorous Life" in my head all morning. Such a great show it was, with so many wonderful performances.
The review made me chuckle. "his warm voice and his causal attire" - I wonder what my attire caused? :D

DR ryacko I enjoyed your comments regarding last night.
Is this Friday going to be causal Friday at HHW?

I can now tell you that our son Rob will be a paramedic for the Butler County Inmate Medical Unit (http://www.butlersheriff.org/corrections/inmate-medical). He will have a lot of direct patient care, which will be great experience for his ultimate goal of becoming a physician assistant.

Oops - it was Hermione Gingold, not Glynis Johns. Still can't find the clip, though.

This looks like it will be a very interesting job. This seems to be one of those times when something better comes out of an unpleasant experience.

Yes, DR Jane, he kind of held out for something other than transport.
Ginny congratulations to Rob - best of luck to him in his new venture

Different...interesting.
I tend to get interested in something and read absolutely everything I can about it. Then when my curiosity is satisfied, I don't think about it anymore
I didn't mean to come off as critical - and I am sorry if that is how it appeared - it is all too real to me - the street I live on was renamed for the grandfather of of the Vixter's classmates - (as was our post office) other streets in our town are named after people in town who perished that day
my family was very lucky - my brother was delayed by a phone call and was late for his meeting at building # 2 - - my cousin's business trip was cancelled on Monday night, so he wasn't on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon
but there are too many people I know who have less fortunate families..
I guess I am just afraid that if I go down there I will start crying and not be able to stop ever again
And I'm sorry if I talked about 911 too much, I know it's a sensitive subject for some and I don't want to bring up bad feelings for anyone
