Well, you've read the notes, the notes met me in Dahl, and now it is time for you to post until the Dahl cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BILLINGSGATE!
-
Today, I'm working concessions again. This time, it's for "A Really Big Shoe 8 – Entertainment Explosion Goes to the Movies (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2014/3/9/a-really-big-shoe-8-ee-goes-to-the-movies.html)." It's for a good cause:
This show to benefit homeless and needy children takes its songs, dances and comedy skits from the movies. Tumwater High School’s marching band will perform “Seventy-six Trombones” and Elvis will be in the house. “Grumpy Old Men” and “You’ve Got Mail” comedy skits will tickle your funny bone!
I think a friend of mine is in the cast, if she's still in the group. It's been a few years since I've worked for this show, so I'm not sure. It'll be fun.
-
Good Morning on a Sunday. It's too early for a Sunday morning, but there you have it.
-
Good morning, all.
I thought I had to go into the wilds of New Jersey on an errand with a friend, but just found out that's been cancelled, at least for today. So here I am, clocks all SPRUNG FORWARD and no place to go. Which is totally fine. Still much to do here today.
In the meantime,
Toast, banana, and COFFEE.
-
Good morning, all! I detest Daylight savings Time and curse the morons who ever thought it up. After a flurry of calls on Thursday and Friday in attempts to talk to me, there has been no word from the Man from Philadelphia since. I'm expecting "the call" today,so I'm keeping my day open.
I will tidy up the place, perhaps watch a movie, and ponder my day tomorrow, which involves lots of shuffling about Manhattan.
I need coffee. Badly.
-
Man from Philadelia vibes, DR Elmore.

Man from Philadelia vibes, DR Elmore.
Thanks! I dread the call for several reasons, the big one being that he has been communicating against my advice with the jerk foundation that employed me and my team between 2001 and 2011 and wants to tell me what great people these creeps are. I can send him emails and voice my disagreement till i'm blue in the face, but in the past I've seen him get suckered in by other Greeks bearing gifts and a good line.
-
We watched RUSH last night.
Good movie, though the final scene was a bit awkward.
-
Good morning, all.
Great concert last night. A violinist named Kolja Blacher played and conducted. The program included Beethoven's first, Mozart's Concerto No. 5 for Violin and Orchestra and Tchaikovsky's Serenade in C major. I wasn't familiar with the Tchaikovsky piece, which was all happiness and serenity, and I loved every minute of it. They did an encore of a Dvorak romance.
We ran into one of the violinists after the concert. She sounded exhausted and she admitted that Blacher had really put them through their paces, but she was also grateful for it.

Vibes for Mae-Ling.
-
Matthew, which Cole Porter score were you referring to yesterday?
-
Where is TCB?

Ditto!

Vibes for Mae-Ling from us as well.
-
Good Morning all:
TOD:
When will your new book be available???
-
I watched MARTY last night with my hubby.
We both enjoyed it!
It's interesting to see how the film industry made woman look so matronly in the fifties!!!
-
Goodbye for now :) :) :)
-
DR Singdaw I like those cactus cupcakes.
-
New book will start preorders in a couple of weeks.
-
I'm up, I'm up. I slept until ten and yet it's eleven. Go know.
-
Page one??? How unseemly! :)
-
Unseemly is as unseemly does.
-
I have had a full morning at church, and am now ready for a lovely nap.
-
DR Singdaw I enjoyed the photo of your sweet DD Zach.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! We're back from Lima and a quick stop at the book sale. Madame President (Moi) just wanted to see hoe things were going on Bag Sale day. It was quite crowded and they had plenty of help.
-
We aren't having as much rain as expected today. Once it eased off we went for a nice walk.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
It's quite warm here today, low 80s. We didn't have much winter and now it's almost spring. I miss winter!
-
Dahl--or dhal or dal--is an important part of Indian meals. I'm quite fond of it. There are sooo many varieties, too. In fact, I may have some Indian food for dinner.
-
DR Laura, will you keep us posted on Mae-ling's condition?
Vibes for a speedy recovery.
-
Where is everyone today? And where is TCB?
-
That's all I've got.
TTFN.
-
DR Laura, will you keep us posted on Mae-ling's condition?
Vibes for a speedy recovery.
From me, too - poor Mae-Ling!
-
Last night I caught part of the Bravo broadcast of LEGALLY BLONDE, so todayI watched the DVD for the first time in maybe six or seven years. It still makes me laugh.
-
Hi Jeanne. I missed autumn when we moved back from the East Coast.
-
Interesting article on "e-noses" and other new technologies:
http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26472225
-
Jane, yes, autumn has always been my favorite season. But I also enjoy winter.
-
I want the dog that can detect ovarian cancer. I found the article interesting having only read about training dogs to detect cancer.
-
Jane, yes, autumn has always been my favorite season. But I also enjoy winter.
The first snowfall here I was surprised how much I enjoyed it thinking I never wanted to live in snow again. It wasn't all that cold here though. It turns out I don't like cold snow ;) I really do prefer the snow in the mountains where I can look at it without experiencing it.
-
I didn't want to, but last night I got myself hooked into watching the Ray Harryhausen tribute on Antenna TV. It began with "Jason and the Argonauts". Then, "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" followed by "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad". For those who may be unfamiliar with these movies, the first two have excellent music scores by Bernard Herrmann (between these two, I tend to hum "7th Voyage" more often). The "Golden Voyage" score was by Miklos Rozsa which is great Rozsa because it, to me at times, sounds like bits of his music for "Ben Hur" and sometimes wrests control of the movie from John Phillip Law, whom I've always liked. Unfortunately, he was going for an "accent" in this movie and it mainly sounds like Lugosi, not an Arab prince. However, Tom Baker (the 1970s Doctor Who) is really good as the villain.
-
I believe we watched the tribute awhile ago. It was very interesting.
-
Back from lunch with the darling daughter and then a visit to Mystery and Imagination Books - they LOVE the cover of the new book and have it on their wall now.
-
Was she in town for a special reason or just to visit?
-
I visited Dahl once. All I got was this lousy t-shirt.
-
Thanks, DR Jane! :)
-
I've had dinner and now I'm feeling rather nauseous. I do hope that I'm not getting sick as the weather warms up. I have a busy day tomorrow. Damn!
I just watched one of the "Midsomer Murders" and I will take a hot bath, then maybe watch another.
-
Be well DR elmore!
-
Good evening!
-
Nice photo of DD Zach!

Today is the French Foreign Legion's 180th birthday! Let's do the can-can wearing pointy berets! After all, they survived this:
-

come on over we still have mountains of snow and they are threatening another "light snowfall" this evening and another one on Wednesday... a day in the low 80's sounds like heaven
-
"I sat there for an hour after I finished, but still needed to kill more time. So, I did some banking"
I read this as "So I did some barking"
I was somewhat perpelxed
-

Went to a paella cook-off today. It was too cold and wet, so they held it under an overpass. Didn't help.
The food was great, but it was also exhausting.
-
I came home and slept. Way too long.
-
Thanks for the Carolee, Slaphappy.
-
I got a horrible musical on CD yesterday.
-
It's called "Out of the Blue" and it's a musical version of the bombing of Nagasaki.
-
I'm not kidding.
-
It's message is simple, yet remarkably sappy: Only believe.
That's it.
-
Why?
-
That won't get us to page four any sooner.
-
Hello, 1 guest.
-
I must be going.
-
I'm not kidding.
It's so bad, it's good. I imagine.
-
Only believe.
In gin, maybe. :)

Well some Long Island Lutherans prayed for her recovery today

Where's anybody?
-
OH! Thank goodness, Chas has come on board - please help us get off this page, Chas!
-
that last post took over two minutes to post
-
Good evening. And, very soon, I'm afraid, it shall be good night. Kind of a long crazy day here, and I'm all wore out.
-
Will we get to page 5?
-
one hopes so
-
one hopes it is not a forlorn hope
-
one hopes one's friends will assist one in this effort
-
one fears one is being exceedingly tedious
-
I have been watching Elizabeth - The Virgin Queen
-
which has just ended
-
OH! Elizabeth - The Golden Age is just beginning!
-
Paella pix. Here's a friend of mine, Don Pullum, making his paella. Anyone see "The Taste" this season on ABC? Don was one of the contestants. He's a great winemaker. Didn't really know his culinary skills were so good until he went on the show.

My friend Claudia was there today! She sang "People" from Funny Girl and killed! She was one of the two best singers in the whole show (it is just a bunch of 55+ year old people performing for a good cause, so it's not really about how good any of the performers are ;) ). The other really good singer was my friend Bruce. He sang "Surrey with the Fringe on Top" from Oklahoma!, but he sang Nancy LaMott's version. It was beautiful. Overall, the crowd of about 500 loved it. A good time was had by all.
-
New book will start preorders in a couple of weeks.
Hoo and Ray!!
-
Finished with my viewing for the evening. You don't even want to know - but I'll reveal in the notes.
-
What a slow weekend here at haineshisway.com. How come? Where in tarnation IS everyone? Mother of mercy, is this the end of Rico?
-
Most unseemly.
-
Back from lunch with the darling daughter and then a visit to Mystery and Imagination Books - they LOVE the cover of the new book and have it on their wall now.
That's great...but do they have your framed original? Or just a print of the finished book cover version with the text?

I love her and this song!

It's called "Out of the Blue" and it's a musical version of the bombing of Nagasaki.
I actually have that, also. I bought in on sale from Dresscircle.co.uk. I've listened to it once.

I'm not kidding.
It's so bad, it's good. I imagine.
No...good singers, but no.
-
It's message is simple, yet remarkably sappy: Only believe.

I have to believe in fairies...I know so many.
;)
-
And just because I think it's funny (and very accurate), here are Sesame Street Disorders that a friend of mine posted on Facebook:
-
I made the store a color Xerox of the cover.
-
Of COURSE you won't give them the original...what was I thinking??
