Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in their element, and now it is time for you to post until the elementary cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EDACITY!
-
Topic of the Day (so far): in my DVD player from Netflix: Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise. That's it for now.
-
steel cut oatmeal, flax seed, fresh strawberries, tea

Not in my cd/dvd

37 degrees F..... Happy Spring!
-
Well I guess I had better get dressed and get me to work
-
Good morning, all.
Up to feed the critters, but on my way back to bed for at least one more hour of much needed sleep.
-
But it's Friday, which for some reason seems kind of nice.
-
The album engineering work sounds hair-raising, but exciting and promising. Best of luck to BK on today's session.

good morning to all

In celebration of TCB's milestone posting of 40,000
A Song!
You did it! You did it!
You said that you would do it,
And indeed you did.
I thought that you would rue it;
I doubted you'd do it.
But now I must admit it
That succeed you did.
You should get a medal
Or be even made a knight.
But you're the one who did it,
Who did it, who did it!
As sturdy as Gibraltar,
Not a second did you falter.
There's no doubt about it,
You did it!
I must have aged a year tonight.
At times I thought I'd die of fright.
Congratulations, TCB,
For your glorious victory!
Congratulations, TCB!
You'll be mentioned in history!
Sing hail and hallelujah!
Ev'ry bit of credit For it all belongs to you!
This evening, sir, you did it!
You did it! You did it!
You said that you would do it
And indeed you did.
This evening, sir, you did it!
You did it! You did it!
We know that we have said it,
But-you did it and the credit
For it all belongs to you!
-
what to watch:
no plans to watch any particular
-
TCB - congrats on your milestone

Good morning, all! I still loathe and detest Daylight Savings Time. My body has now got to 6:30am for 7:30, but I suspect I won't be happy with a 7:00 alarm for another 2 weeks. My sinuses and throat have been a mess forthe past today from all the crap raised by a falling ceiling, and this morning I finally dragged out the neti pot to see of I could wash out my sinuses. I think it's helping and i am very happy it wasn't broken hen all hell broke loose in my bathroom.
I'm off to City Center to pick up the IRMA LA DOUCE job from Joshie. This weekend I will listen to the OBC and work on my Cole Porter arrangement.
TOD:

Good morning, all.
Great notes today, BK. It does sound like you are in your element, and we will soon be the happy recipients of your skills and talents.
-
Rather surprised at all the good reviews for Aladdin, though some of the larger papers are not entirely ebullient.

TOD:
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

I am most definitely sleeping in tomorrow. >:(
-
Well, I didn't really get back to sleep, but I laid there for an hour and feel a lot better for it.
-
And I am off to City Center.
I'll visit with Joshie a bit and head for home.

DR Dan M - loved the poem you posted last night. I love the obvious glory in the working out of the words.
And, of course, I am also glad that you are still with us. :)
-
I am sure you have heard many (but not all) the viola/violist jokes. There are so many. ;D
-
Loved all the nitty-gritty recording session details in today's notes.

Congrats to DR TCB on his millstone.

I also enjoyed reading the recording/mixing details in the notes today. Most interesting.

Nice poem from DR DAN M last night as well....and amusing photos from DR SINGDAW.
I am hoping my wireless router comes today so that I can try out my tablet on the inner web.

I must say, DRs Elmore and Jrand63 have some fine movies playing this week!
I think the only music I'll be listening to today (and maybe practicing a little) is HAIRSPRAY, and we'll just have to see about movies later. Oh yes, we shall just have to see.
-
I am hoping some movies from Arrow in the UK come today, as they were "dispatched" two weeks ago, and this is when I officially begin worrying that they're lost and I'll never be able to prove it. I love getting the stuff, and shipments from Amazon UK usually get here in a week. With Arrow, one has to put on the worrying cap until it finally, finally, finally arrives.
-
DR JOHN G I just listened to that song you mentioned yesterday THE MEN WHO RUN THE COUNTRY, and it is most entertaining....
And too appropriate for today's audiences more than 50 years after it was written.
-
DR Jrand63 - your theatre has wifi, I hope. Otherwise, I fear your hope of posting photos on FB from rehearsals may be for naught. ???

Flashback Friday:
Mary, Merry, Marry

Friday afternoon greetings! Slept in this morning until I just had time to have breakfast and a quick shower before my hair appointment with Tina. I've pre-baked our pizza crusts for tonight's dinner and soon will swap some winter decor for spring. That'll make it snow, for sure!

Hmm, looks like our Wednesday evening in NYC just opened up:

Yes DR SINGDAW we have WiFi at the theater.....I have just never used it before.
The only thing I don't have is a pianist......after April 24.

I want to share this here, as I did on Facebook this morning, as you have all been so kind and generous with your good thoughts and prayers for my mother this week. Forgive me if I don't have a chance to respond to your comments today. I will surely return to read and treasure them when I can. R xo
**
My amazing mother passed this morning, near 8AM Eastern time, with my sister and two brothers by her side. After the hopeful post yesterday, more info was revealed, and this is not unexpected. It was her time.
In the Irish tradition that I was raised with, I share this, not to mourn a loss, but to celebrate her life. And to give you a glimpse at who this remarkable woman is, I share an excerpt of a letter my mother wrote to us, her children, which I only received yesterday.
(Note: the "Mary" she refers to dancing with is my sister, Mary, my mother's namesake, who passed away when she was young.)
My Mother's words:
"God has granted me so much during my lifetime - good health, creative spirit, much happiness, delightful events, which you were a part of many times over.
There will come a time to leave this behind, and I know i will feel deep regret at not being able to share more, both happy and sad times, but I will have to move on to the next phase, perhaps singing with my father, dancing with Mary, watching over all of you, banging on God's door when you are in need.
Always remember all the funny, dumb, good things. Never dwell on mistakes or sorrows. We must grieve sometimes, but then let a strong, cool wind blow this away and go ahead with the next doohickey. Look for beauty, music and for God's sake, a sense of humor. Heart and soul depend on it. My love follows you always.
None of us can predict our future, of course, but I wanted to express my wishes and love for all of you. Just think, I won't have to care if I'm fat, have high cholesterol, have wrinkles, or care what to wear. I can just smile down on you, laugh with you, and pray for your futures and that of my grandchildren."
**
This was the gift of a woman I was raised by. I am so very blessed. I celebrate you, Mom, and treasure all of the lessons and wisdom you have given me. You have been with me every day of my life, no matter how far I've wandered. That will never change.
Thank you all again for your loving prayers, my friends. I know that they helped her get to where she needs to be now.

Sympathies extended toward the family of DR Ryacko. Peace be with you and yours.
-
DR ryacko, what a beautiful memento to have from your Mother. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days and weeks to come. May you find solace in good memories and comfort in each other.
-
Condolences, DR ryacko. She must have been a remarkable woman.
-
DR Ginny everyone in my book group liked HOTEL.... but then we often have all liked a book, except for one member who won't read the sad ones so we don't count her ;)
-
DR Ryacko:
So sorry for the loss of your Dear Mom.
I will pray for her.
What a special gift she gave to you writing that letter. Just Beautiful!!!
-
DR Ginny everyone in my book group liked HOTEL.... but then we often have all liked a book, except for one member who won't read the sad ones so we don't count her ;)
We have one member who doesn't like much of anything and the coordinator who took over from me last year has made it her life mission to find a book Betty will like!
-
From DR Vixmom:
Aren't you glad you asked?
That was very interesting though don't ever ask me to repeat or explain what I read ;D
-
From DR Vixmom:
Elmore I have had the doctors look at this before they say my heart muscle is strong but every once in a while my heart decides to beat double time - it is rather exhausting when it happens
I have had that for years now. You get used to it after awhile.
-
From DR Dan:
I was thisclose to kicking the bucket last year, so I am very happy to be doing the simple things every day. After you've been bed-bound for 6 months, and having to relearn to walk, it's a miracle to do things that others take for granted.
When I can't run I remind myself how lucky I am to be walking. I'm glad you are appreciating the simple things in life as they truly are the sweetest.

This is why our group lets the member hosting pick the book.

DR ryacko I am extremely moved by your tribute to your mother. My condolences on your great loss. Like DR Matt's father, your mother was blessed to have such a loving son.
-
DR Ryacko - of course, you and your whole family have my condolences. What a remarkable gift she gave all of you in that letter. Just beautiful. May the passing of time and happy memories help to eventually ease the pain you must feel right now.
-
Condolences to RYacko - and a wonderful thing from his mom - to celebrate a life lived.

I'm up - finally got a really good night's sleep.

DR Ryacko, I am so very sorry. Please take care! :-\

Thank you all for the good wishes on my milestone, and especially to DR Mike for the song in my honor. You are really my fair laddie!

Condolences to DR Ryacko and family. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dealing with some yahoo who filed two Paypal claims - one for a title not scheduled to ship for two more weeks and one for one that was, according to our tracking information, delivered on March 12. Needless to say, I've responded to paypal with the tracking info and written the buyer.

He is obviously having the problem I have when ordering from Kritzerland...when I order, the title I ordered before remains in the basket where the new title has just landed. I have to be careful and remove the older title or I end up ordering it again.

I've had that happen to me, too. I just make sure that I'm paying attention when I order anything.

No, not that at all. He placed two separate orders on one day - that part was fine. We shipped one and didn't ship the other - the helper got confused - but neither we're scheduled to ship for another week and a half. The one we DID ship was delivered on the 12th in the UK - only four days after we shipped. The other is waiting to ship, but I'm not shipping until he removes the claims - otherwise I'll refund him on that one order.
-
DR Ryacko, my sympathies on the passing of your mother. May a wealth of great memories of her grant you peace.

I broke down and finally purchased a Blu-Ray player. Specifically, a region free blu-ray player. It should be in my hands in around 3 to 7 days (according to the website)
Reason for finally getting one of these machines: ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS is being released on BD. I love, love, love that movie, and it has some very nice special features including an interview with William Reynolds who played Jane Wyman's son in the movie and who appeared in a few other Douglas Sirk films.
And since KING KONG ESCAPES is also releasing on BD..well...!
-
Also, it seems that DVD companies are beginning to release Blu ray's without also releasing the title on regular DVD...so eventually, I was gonna have to make the switch.
-
DR M. Barnum:
I love ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS also.
And of course, I love Rock Hudson(He seemed like such a nice man, and very easy on the eyes).
-
Also, it seems that DVD companies are beginning to release Blu ray's without also releasing the title on regular DVD...so eventually, I was gonna have to make the switch.
Yup...here at the library, they haven't started buying any Blu-rays. And I just ordered a Korean TV show from Amazon for the library, but we were sent 2 sets on DVD and 2 sets on Blu-ray! What's that all about?? I now have to contact the seller, return the Blu-ray sets and hopefully, they have more copies of the DVD. I hate it when that happens. :P
I wouldn't mind if it were my own personal purchase, but it's a pain for the library.
-
Blu-ray! Blu-ray! Blu-ray!
-
They've started buying Blu and Rays at the library here. A few of the more select titles, like Frances Ha, were only on Blu-Ray. Now it seems to be a mix of the two and the question is, which one is going to come in faster. I've been waiting forever it seems for The Long Ranger Blu-Ray -- and I want to see it only because the star, Armie Hammer, lives here in town and is fairly nice guy.
-
To coin a JRand63 phrase: "Oh" and "well".
-
My local city library isn't very large and doesn't have a very deep selection of much of anything, but they had started adding select Blu-rays to the video collections a couple of years ago.
-
Condolences to DR ryacko. And thank you for sharing the letter from your Mother.
-
DR MBARNUM welcome to the 21st century....you will enjoy Blu Ray technology very much.
-
I sent an email asking a question of the person who runs our shop.....the answer included information I didn't need for questions I didn't ask....
MY QUESTION: Is the turntable and frame still in working condition for Guys & Dolls?
THE ANSWER: The turntable and frame are still there. I don't know how many drops we have. Also using the turntable makes it very difficult to get large set pieces desks, benches, etc onstage. So tell that to whoever is building it.
MY REPLY: Okay. Thanks.

DR ryacko finding your mother's letter uplifting and beautiful, I simply had to re-read it this afternoon.

Finally read a bunch of reviews of Aladdin. What strikes me as odd are the number of high grades that the show received and yet the reviews themselves were really rather tepid about everything but a number in the first act.
If you gave me the choice of a so-so show with a tremendous eight-minute number in the first act (Aladdin) or a so-so-show with a final 30 minutes that's said to be a knockout (Rocky), I would probably go with the latter. No, I would see something else.
-
In retrospect, I suppose that my first clue should have been when, at the age of five, I "fell in love" with the little boy (in his underwear) on the Chutes and Ladders game board...

Our city library has a fairly nice selection of DVDs...50% of which were donated by me.
As you might imagine, they a goodly amount of Indian films. :)

At last.

Actually, I don't think our library spends any of their resources on DVDs. Almost all look to be donated. You will definitely not see any new releases available.

Well, I happen to know that the copy of the Bollywood film GIRLFRIEND (sort of a Lesbianploitation film) was checked out...and never returned.
-
And our library is proud to have KING KONG ESCAPES and ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE available for rent. Now, how many other libraries can say that?
-
"proud" might not be the right world.
Maybe "honored?"
-
Anyway....
-
I have a meeting of our Indo-US group tonight and we each have to inform how much we have done in readiness for next month's Holi event.
Navneet and I are the food committee. I think we have enough done now so that we will not be publicly chastised as we were at the last meeting ;)
I still need to finalize with Star of India on the two food items they are supplying for the event. Will likely do that this weekend....maybe even tonight before the meeting, as I am kind of hungry for some Butter Chicken.
-
..so.....
-
...would anyone else like to post...anything?
-
I would check out the Bollywood films. I love them.

With all the FROZEN commercials, i have to say I find the award winning song really awful, and it isn't helped by Idina Menzel and her ungraceful manner of screaming a song.

Had you been a lad in the UK, it would have certainly been much clearer as there it is known as "Snakes and Ladders"!
-
DR Ryacko-- My sympathies and condolences to you and your family. The letter your mother left you is a poetic treasure. You must follow her wishes now-- to celebrate her well-lived life. Remember all of her love. Be happy in that she graced your life. Think of it as that she gave you life so that you can pass along her wisdom to those you love.

A wonderful film I haven't seen in years.
And now OLIVER on TCM - a double feature!
Over the holidays, I recorded OLIVER on my friends' DVR (they have DISH, I think). I watched the movie several times, sometimes just for the music, sometimes to watch the dance numbers. For me, it's a transcendental experience when a movie (like OLIVER) has an opening credit sequence or something to that effect, rather than the credits splashed over the start of the movie. It's like entering another world, as it should be.
-
Watching "I Married an Angel," which really is as bad as Elmore has said it is. All those great Rodgers and Hart songs treated so poorly. All that Nelson and Jeanette at their most humorless

Wow, a double feature. :)
Good time to finish a knitting project...

Five!

I need to read for awhile.

Well my 4 year old niece told me that "Let It Go" is the best song from Frozen, which she has now seen 3 times. :)
-
Condolences to DR Rayko. I love celebrating those who pass. It's such a wonderful tribute

I am going to spend my birthday with Julianne and Derek Hough
-
Well, ok I'll be in the audience and they'll be on the stage, but when I saw they were going to be in Sioux City on their Move Live Tour on my birthday , I had to get a ticket
-
The vip packages are outrageously priced and I wasn't about to do that, but I did discover that where there was a single seat in the VIP group, they priced it at regular prices. Still more than I like to spend, but for my birthday it will be worth it
-
I have stopped buying an extra ticket for things I want to see. While it's nice to go with someone, the last 3 or 4 times I've done it I've gotten stuck with a ticket,, so it's singles for me baby
-
I made the foolish mistake of saying three days before the first day f spring that I hadn't had a cold all winter. I am now suffering for that mistake. This is the worst cold I've had in years
-
I worked on Wednesday and Thursday even though I felt like crap. Today I stayed home
-
Seriously, one of the VIP packages is $410 an includes a meet and greet and a photo with them, and a few other things, but really? I can't imagine anyone here paying that. The second package is $200 something and includes a group photo with them. That's insane here.
The fun part is I'll be sitting next to someone who could have paid 6 times what I did and I'm on the aisle.
-
Well, ok I'll be in the audience and they'll be on the stage, but when I saw they were going to be in Sioux City on their Move Live Tour on my birthday , I had to get a ticket

-
Feel better DR Cilla and congrats on finding something special to do for your birthday.
-
Thanks Jane. It's just a miserable cold. Like all the miserable colds I've had in the past. I made some chicken soup today....after bacon and eggs and before a BLT. I'm feeding a cold, lol. Actually I'm drowning this cold. I've had so much water I can't believe it.
-
But I am a lot worse than I was yesterday or the day before, so i'm glad I stayed home. I'm supposed to play my flute at a nursing home on Sunday. I'm not going to do it unless I have a miraculous recovery. There is another flute who is going to double on my part that day anyway so I'm covered. She's going to play another gig I can't make so this was the rehearsal for her.
-
Sorry I've been so E and T. I haven't caught up so if I've missed something, sorry

I have to admit I keep turning back to the coverage of the missing plane. CNN's coverage has actually gotten more interesting, they are doing a lot about the different technology being used the ocean currents the remoteness of this part of the world. I've actually learned quite a bit by watching. I really hope they solve this mystery
-
Vibes you feel better soon, Cillaliz.

I'm working a 5K run at 8 in morning, handing out wine to people as they finish. Then it's off to judge a barbecue contest.
So, I'm packing it in tonight. Sleep well, all.
-
Thanks John. I'll be fine. It just takes a little time

I did have a physical with my new Doc on Wednesday. She called me on Thursday to tell me based on my blood tests and my blood pressure I have only a 1.8 percent chance of a heart attack in the next 10 years. Cool. I don't know if I believe all that, but it's nice to hear that I don't have a problem with my heart. She is getting me scheduled for my first colonoscopy......probably in May. She's a resident, but she really spent time with me and I told her about my frustrations with the lack of communication. She's been great about communicating with me. Waiting for the results of the rest of the tests, but so far, I'm really healthy....except for this cold

The vip packages are outrageously priced and I wasn't about to do that, but I did discover that where there was a single seat in the VIP group, they priced it at regular prices. Still more than I like to spend, but for my birthday it will be worth it
Seriously, one of the VIP packages is $410 an includes a meet and greet and a photo with them, and a few other things, but really? I can't imagine anyone here paying that. The second package is $200 something and includes a group photo with them. That's insane here.
The fun part is I'll be sitting next to someone who could have paid 6 times what I did and I'm on the aisle.
Don't you love it when that happens? ;D
-
DR Cillaliz, I'm sorry you have such a miserable cold. Get lots of rest this weekend!
-
Yes George, I love it when that happens.
-
Thanks Ginny. I'm going to try to take it easy
-
Well, I've been at work for far too long. I'm heading out. I need to feed my friend Margo's cats, so I'll do that, then a little shopping, then home.
Be back later!
-
Did you really or is that a joke?
Well, maybe "fall in love" is a bit strong. But I was certainly interested! :)

Tonight we ate with in-laws at a Russian restaurant. The food was very interesting. Lots of vodka was consumed. (Not by me). There was also a roving accordion player. ???

And our library is proud to have KING KONG ESCAPES and ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE available for rent. Now, how many other libraries can say that?
"proud" might not be the right world.
Maybe "honored?"
maybe "reluctantly admits to"
:)

Back from another long day - had a great lunch with David Wechter, then went directly to another day and evening of mixing and hiding problems. And I have to say we have done so - right now, there are two tracks where I might want to replace just about eight bars in each track, although I can live with them the way they are. Other than that, depending on whether I actually want to use play outs (we recorded all of them) - if I don't, then so far we only have one short horn redo - if I do, then we've got three short horn redos. But it's day two's stuff that will tell the tale, but whatever it is we will have MUCH less to do than I thought and most likely with great players, we'll be able to do it in one three hour session or less.

DR Ryacko - I am so sorry for your loss - it sounds as if your Mom was a remarkable woman. May the celebration of her life and reveling in those memories bring you some peace and comfort
-
My condolences to DR Ryacko. Your mother's letter is something to cherish always. You and your family are in my thoughts and my prayers.

Armie Hammer is also a hottie!

There was indeed a problem with the eBook of Red Gold - it will get fixed next week - for now, they've discontinued it.
-
Okay, I'll wait, then that will be my tryout of Kindle.
-
Or, I should say, the Kindle APP.
-
Congratulations to TCB on your milestone!
You have one coming up shortly.
Well, it's a very modest milestone, but thanks for noticing, DR JohnG!
Now, now, Kevin; size doesn't matter.
-
A bit quiet here tonight?
-
I do need to turn in soon, myself.
-
But first, remind me to fire that chauffeur.

The thing about the Kindle version they did - it's absolutely right - and that's a first - it's literally the book in Kindle form, with all of its correct fonts - that part is great but because of their very weird specs in turning in the pdf - Grant has to position the 6x9 book in the middle of an 8 1/2 x 11 page, and that's why the eBook has so much white space around the text. So, what Grant feels may work perfectly is for him to send them a pdf of the actual 6x9 size - then that should translate to full pages on the Kindle.

That's great, BK! And I think you should use the play outs. It should be a truly "complete" recording. :)

I had ordered it, but was able to return it for a full refund. I'll reorder it when it's fixed. It is, however, still listed on Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J4FKI72/).

This evening after I left work and fed my friend's cats, I went to Fred Meyer and bought a couple of sheets. Tomorrow night, Theater Artists Olympia (TAO), the theater group whose board I'm on, is having a toga party fund raiser and I'm going to use the sheets to make a toga for the toga party! I bought two in case I'll need to sew them together to make it long enough to wrap all the way around myself thoroughly. I will also wear a t-shirt and jeans shorts under it. I don't show skin.
;)
