Well, you've read the notes, the notes were befuddled and certainly had insufficient chili, and now it is time for you to post until the insufficient cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: XYLOGRAPHY!
-
First post after BK! It means I am up much too late.
-
Too late? I'm just starting to wind down.
;)
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ann!! :D
-
But now, to bed.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ann!! :D
Same from New York too.
And I'm up early. Must be anxious to get back to the tax season festivities.
-
Laura - I wasn't familiar with that "Darlene Edwards" track, but I found it on YouTube. Most enjoyable. Thanks!

and of corse A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ann!!

April is Poetry Month in Miami (or is it all of Florida?).

Good morning, all.
I wonder why so many people are up at five in the morning. I wonder why I am up at five in the morning. I wonder.
-
Well, it's a very busy day, so I will be a little scarce.
I send vibes to everyone for a good day.
Special vibes that the rain I just heard isn't going into vixmom's basement.
-
That wasn't rain I heard! It was a light "mix" and we've got us a slick dusting out there. Ai yi yi...
-
Monday morning greetings! There's quite a racket out on 46th Street. Sounds like some major renovation work...
-
Good morning, all! I hope that my sleep pattern has by now switched over to the Daylight Savings Time calendar. Getting up at 6:45 wasn't as grisly as I feared.
This is a physical therapy day, followed by laundry and other work at home. There may be a concert tonight in the Village, depending on today's work and how I'm feeling around 6:00, which is when I need to leave to get to the Village by 7:30.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ann!!!
-
Wishing a delightfully delightful natal day to DR Ann!

Insufficient Chili is not a good state of things.
-
A plethora of chili is much more desirable.

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Ann!!!
Ditto!

Happiest of birthdays to DR Ann!

Goodbye for now!

I know that a lot of folks love MIDNIGHT LACE, and it's really a pretty good movie in itself.
It's primary problem is that it's obvious who the "villain" is by just looking at the cast list.

Happy Birthday DR ANN.

This Thursday TCM is having a Doris Day Day.....
-
I don't think I ever saw a Doris Day movie that I did NOT like, although I guess two that are not "watch again" films for me would be:
Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?
Caprice
Special favorites are:
Lover Come Back
Pillow Talk
It Happened to Jane
Pajama Game
Love Me or Leave Me
The Man Who Knew Too Much
Storm Warning
Move Over, Darling
Do Not Disturb
I love all of her her movie theme title songs and:
Secret Love
Another Go Around
Catch the Bouquet
AND her album with Andre Previn....
-
DR FJL I am astonished that you are unfamiliar with Jonathon and Darlene Edwards.....one of my very favorite songs that they did is here....although it has some weird visuals along with it.

Good day, all!
Happy birthday, Ann!
TOD: Don't think I've ever seen any of Ms. Day's movies. "Que Sera Sera" is the only song that comes to mind right now.
-
And I am home from therapy. Morgan was not in this morning, so I had no walking exercises. The usual ones went well, and i feel very pleased at the moment.
-
This Thursday TCM is having a Doris Day Day.....
If she had married a Mr. Day, would it be Doris Day Day Day?
-
I am glad all went well, DR elmore3003, but am surprised that they only have one therapist for walking.

I believe I will do laundry, hit the market, and accomplish some writing.

I first saw MIDNIGHT LACE one afternoon on Frances Farmer Presents - she always had the best and latest movies on her show....and in COLOR!!!
So many red herrings......and there never was an explanation for those phone calls that the barkeep charged John Gavin for....I guess he was just making random calls.....
-
There are a couple of movies to add to my list:
By the Light of the Silvery Moon
On Moonlight Bay....
Leon Ames, Rosemary DeCamp, Billy Gray, AND Mary Wickes.....what's not to like?
Tea for Two & Lullaby of Broadway as well....but a few points taken off for Billy DeWolfe's tired antics.....

Thanks for the
memories video link, DR John G.!!!

Happy Birthday to DR Ann

Both of these were on TCM a few months ago. I recorded them and put them on the same DVD. :)

SO, when Bob came in today, he claimed he hadn't seen my email, which may or may not be true. He said that he is fine in his room and he wasn't thinking of adding a secretary for a year or so... Anyway, he sort of gets it. I told him with the sound issues that there is no way we could add another person. His response was that he hadn't noticed a problem before. I told him I am not used to being around noise and I don't tune it out well. I said I even live alone and can't sleep when other people are in the house. He said "What about guests" I said "I don't have guests". He's kept his door shut most of the day.
-
It actually went fine, though. He's definitely not in a hurry to leave, but if he's quieter, I'm good with that. I'm also keeping my door shut, so it's a lot better in here. I don't think it will be an issue and he was actually glad that I told him that when he gets to the point of adding a secretary, it won't be here.
-
The laundry is finished and I am very tired. I'm still debating the trip down to the Village tonight.
-
Now if he would just go look at the great office space that just opened up on the 6th floor. I told him he should see it, and he said "Oh, I won't be ready for that for a year..." LOL.

Good. It sounds like all will be fine.

I wanted very much to like IT HAPPENED TO JANE because of Jack Lemmon and especially Ernie Kovacs. For me, the movie had lots of promise but never got out of second gear. Even the change in personality of one of the main characters wasn't all that much of a surprise. Doris Day was okay in the movie and Jack Lemmon was being Jack Lemmon. Sorry to say it was an inert experience for me.
-
Hitchcock's THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH is, of course, Hitchcock, so I am biased into liking it. Doris Day was, to me, a surprise in the movie because I had no preparation from her other movies that she could be dramatic and believable. She is quite touching when she is on the telephone with her son. "Que Sera Sera" is an all-time great song which serves a purpose in the movie other than just being a random stop-the-storyline-and-let's-sing-a-song plot deadener of which so many other movies are guilty.
-
THE PAJAMA GAME with Doris Day and John Raitt is great entertainment. I just need to dry clean my memory of the Harry Connick version (I don't like him, as he started out as a third-rate Sinatra impersonator).
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....I like Harry Connick Jr. very very much because he is NOT Frank Sinatra whom I loathe.
-
I did this a while back. I watched SEND ME NO FLOWERS and then SECONDS. Gave me a whole weird Rock Hudson experience because of what happens in the first movie and how he comes to be in the second. There seem to me at least many veiled hints in these movies about the real Rock. Generally, I enjoy the DORIS DAY-ROCK HUDSON-TONY RANDALL triangle. But, with what we know from the intervening years, that was clearly an isoceles triangle tipped in Tony's favor.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....I like Harry Connick Jr. very very much because he is NOT Frank Sinatra whom I loathe.
I guess we will have to agree to disagree. I've tried to like HC all these years and he just doesn't click for me. I even saw him in person and nothing. I did try.
-
I guess I wish there had been a third angle to the triangle rather than Tony Randall....there was never any possibility that Doris' strong characters would end up with Tony's saps.
If - as in THAT TOUCH OF MINK and TEACHER'S PET - the 'other guy' had been Gig Young, then it would have been a contest.
-
I think I liked JANE because of the chemistry between Day and Lemmon....and I like Kovacs, too....and I like movies when Doris has kids because (contrary to the kids' experience in the making of the films) - she really seems like she likes those kids as her own.
-
Do you mean someone like Dennis Day?
Yes - but Susan Dey would work, too. :)

I agree with everything you say, but I sometimes feel that Richard Quine's touch is off. All the leads were good; it was the overall movie that didn't gel for me.
-
Picked up boxes o' books and Grant will be here this afternoon to do his thing, after which all copies will be shipped in the morning or maybe even tonight. Then I had some bacon and eggs, and have been on the phone ever since, mostly with my wonderful orchestrator, David Siegel, who's halfway done doing our new orchestration.
-
I always enjoyed Doris Day's title sequence songs for her later pictures. While the songs may not have always been classics, they had a good beat, she delivered her all, and somehow set the mood as you "entered" the movie proper.
-
I know in my heart that THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT isn't classic cinema, but it is Frank Tashlin, the opening is lots of fun, and Rod Taylor is a good foil to Day. Many in the supporting cast are good: Paul Lynde, John McGiver, Ellen Corby, Dick Martin. I never "got" Arthur Godfrey and to me he is the same whether he was on TV or on the big screen. Maybe it's a generational thing. I've also often wondered if the Andy Griffith character, Lonesome Rhodes, was inspired by Godfrey because the avuncular fellow he seemed to be masked the ugliness he had for many.
-
I don't really remember "The Doris Day Show" which she kind of did under duress, but for which she was the pro that she always was. Has anyone revisited the series and is it worth watching?
-

I still think it is fun even if it isn't a great movie.

She wasn't a surprise as I saw this in the movie theater so to me she was always a talented actress.
-
I know in my heart that THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT isn't classic cinema,
It is simply a fun romance story and entertaining because of the leads.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....I like Harry Connick Jr. very very much because he is NOT Frank Sinatra whom I loathe.
I agree on Sinatra. Not a taste I've ever acquired, though I do like him in High Society, but much of that was written for him.
-
There seem to me at least many veiled hints in these movies about the real Rock.
Really? I have never noticed them.
As for the triangle I don't think Tony was Rock's cup of tea and it wouldn't have mattered as Tony wouldn't have been interested ;D
I'm curious, Bruce & Jeanne didn't you know early on the Rock was gay? I thought it was pretty common knowledge.
-
I could use some insufficient chili right about now.
-

If - as in THAT TOUCH OF MINK and TEACHER'S PET - the 'other guy' had been Gig Young, then it would have been a contest.
Gig didn't get her in "Young at Heart" which always bothered me. When I saw "Four Daughters", the movie Heart is based on, I thought the story was much better. I still enjoy Heart.
-
so true, DR JANE....but Sinatra had it in his contract that his character wouldn't die...in YOUNG AT HEART.
-
I don't really remember "The Doris Day Show" which she kind of did under duress, but for which she was the pro that she always was. Has anyone revisited the series and is it worth watching?
I haven't but have a feeling it would not hold up. I liked the early episodes with Denver Pyle.
-
DR DAN M I have all five seasons of The DD Show on DVD....and it's not really much fun. It does have MR BK in the pilot to a series that was going to be a spin off....but didn't happen....
I like the extras where all of the people talk about working on the series and how much they all liked Doris....and it was interesting to learn that many of the shots of "Doris" in the opening montage were of a double....if you don't see the face...it ain't Doris.
-
It was on Monday nights.....I worked until 9 p.m. - got home about 9:15 to watch the last half of Family Affair...then The Doris Day Show...and then The Carol Burnett Show. It was a dynamite Monday night on CBS.
-
I could use some insufficient chili right about now.
The expensive kind - IN the shell.
-
Denver Pyle.
Gomer's brother?
-
Hmmmm.....looking at the schedules...Doris never followed Family Affair.....the mind plays funny tricks.
-
so true, DR JANE....but Sinatra had it in his contract that his character wouldn't die...in YOUNG AT HEART.
LOL I know. That is so ridiculous though I wonder if it was his way of making the character a good guy.
I doubt the studio minded since the the character, played by John Garfield, was extremely popular in "Four Daughters"

I'm glad they made work a bit easier for her.
-
I'm sure that was it DR JANE.....I thought Garfield had it all over Sinatra in the story....but the girls in the original were kind of bland.
-
Happy Birthday to DR Ann!
-
DR Jeanne-- you asked about the cherry blossoms. I think the predicted peak date is around April 9th. Some years they're in full bloom by the 1st of April.
-
Love Doris Day.
Movies: The Man Who Knew Too Much, Pajama Game, Pillow Talk, Send Me No Flowers, Lover Come Back, Calamity Jane, Love Me or Leave Me
Songs: Bewitched..., I'll Never Stop Loving You, songs from her Latin for Lovers album, Blame My Absent-Minded Heart
and many more!
-
I'm sure that was it DR JANE.....I thought Garfield had it all over Sinatra in the story....but the girls in the original were kind of bland.
Yes, over all I found the remake far more delightful and enjoyed the music. Day & Young were a perfect match and then along came Sinatra who brooded.
-

How long do they last after they peak?

I thought with the cold weather they would peak later than usual.

I love Harry Connick JR on American Idol. I think he is hilarious.

It felt like Spring today. Sad thing is it was only 40F. But that felt so lovely. If we could just get rid of all the snow.
-
It was 73 degrees at noon. It was 32 at 5:00 Can you say cold front?
-
I have to laugh at the people who are shocked that it's still cold here. Considering our last frost date is something like May 5, you'd think they'd know that March is still cold
-
We actually had a really good day today. Edith and I worked on a number of things and I got there early enough to explain what was going on before Bob got there. I think it's good for both Edith and I to know we aren't going to make any major changes. Today is the first time Edith sounded excited about my office becoming conference room. She looked in at how bright and cheery it is and said "I think I'm really going to like coming in here" for conferences. She also got into the furniture arranging mode with me. It's all good.
-
Time for DWTS!
-
DR Cilla I am glad you are keeping Edith happy ;)
-
We've taken it kind of easy today and have just come from a nice dinner with our friends Doug and Jon at a French restaurant called Marseilles. They're off to a benefit and we're back in our room to watch FROZEN on pay-per-view.
-
Make sure that you sing along during "Let It Go," DR Ginny! :)
-
Having a raw vegan meal (after a snack of ribs). Raw wraps with pecan hummus, CRANBERRIES, celery and more wrapped collard leaves. Really nice.
-

You've obviously never heard me sing, DR Singdaw. We actually opted out of the movie in favor of CASTLE.

Raw cranberries could be really tart, how was it
-
so this morning as I was getting ready Vixdad asked if I had looked out the window yet... I had not
-
I was not prepared to see nearly 2 inches of snow and HUUUUGE fluffy flakes coming down
-
It's an early turn-in for the likes of moi, but here I go. Tomorrow is my all-dayer at the high school, so no telling when I'll be able to check in. Here's to a good Tuesday for all!
-
one of my office mates lives a few blocks away and she hates driving in the snow so I texted her and offered her a ride which she quickly accepted - it took me nearly 15 minutes to get to her house from mine a trip that usually takes about 2 minutes
-
we were crawling along all the way to work - its only 7miles but it tookus nearly an hour to get there
-
Holy moley. We got a dusting. Not even a solid dusting.
-
But it was messy and slick.
-
by 1 PM the snow was gone, it was sunny and the temperature was in the mid 50's
-
I think the weather got confused and thought it was tomorrow
-
We've now gone from 73 degrees at noon to 25 degrees at 9:00 pm
-
Good evening. Some of you folks are freezing, and I have a headache from being out in the sun too long.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.....I like Harry Connick Jr. very very much because he is NOT Frank Sinatra whom I loathe.
I also like Harry Connick Jr., but I like Sinatra, too.
-
Raw cranberries could be really tart, how was it
They were dried, but with no sugar on them. Really nice. Not a lot in there, but they brought a welcome touch of tartness to the wrap. The hummus was really nutty and earthy. I was surprised I liked it as much as I did.
-
I am wiped out good night all

I know that a lot of folks love MIDNIGHT LACE, and it's really a pretty good movie in itself.

I was 19 when the movie came out. I read a 1-2 line synopsis, saw the cast list and I immediately knew who did it...and I was right.
:D
I would not want that ability...especially while watching a movie like "The Sixth Sense." I was flabbergasted when the big reveal was revealed.
THE SIXTH SENSE fooled me, too. I like to be surprised.
But, with MIDNIGHT LACE, it seemed so obvious. (I won't say why because, in case somebody hasn't seen it, I wouldn't want to be a SPOILER.)
-
I figured out The Sixth Sense but only because so many people told me that I would be shocked at the twist. So I spent most of the time trying to figure out what it would be.

We are literally having gale force winds outside. 45 mph. We get them like this a lot, but it sounds worse tonight. Must be the direction or something

Guess I'll go to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day.

You have had some extreme weather today.

Page five? Really?
-
Had a wonderful rehearsal, while Grant did his thing with the limitation sheet. Then some of us went to the Kansas City Barbecue, which we found was closed for renovations - irritating. So we ended up at the Eclectic Cafe.

I trust there were no insufficiencies at this meal. :D
-
None at all.
-
The salmon was really excellent. I did eat a little more mac-and-cheese than I should have, but not that much in the scheme of things. We ordered the appetizer of it, and the young girls loved it and ate a lot of it, so we ordered a second one and they demolished that one, too - I did get in some good bites though.
-
So happy these books are going out in the morning and I'm so excited for people to read it.

Will no one rid me of this meddlesome page?
