Title: THE PASSOVER EASTER PARADE

Well, you've read the notes, the notes did not passover Easter, and now it is time for you to post until the Easter cows come home.

Yesterday, at my parents' house celebrating my niece's 30th birthday, her father didn't come.  My niece's half-sister was up in Seattle at ComiCon (however it's spelled...or whatever convention it is right now), but her other grandmother and her paternal aunt and her husband came and celebrated.  It was fun.  After the grandmother and aunt and other uncle left, we played Phase 10.  My niece actually won!

During the dinner, my friend Margo called, wanting to know if I wanted to go to the movies.  I said sure, after the partying was done.  So, when it was, we went to the 10:00 showing of "Divergent."  I didn't realize that it was 2 1/2 hours long, but I have to admit that I liked it.  It didn't seem like it took that long.

Also from yesterday, John G. wrote this:
Quote
I forgot to post this earlier in the week, but I was at a meeting on Wednesday or Thursday with several fairly high-ranking people at the company. The subject was social media and the lone woman in the room was talking about Twitter or sending a tweet. She wanted the past tense of tweet, but instead she used a vulgar term for a woman's private parts.

And an awkward silence descended on the room. Someone finally changed the topic and we went on. Her face was beet red when she realized what she had said.

I felt bad for her then. Still do, but I am now laughing at it all, too.

Sounds like she's been watching too much Kathy Griffin.  That's what Kathy's been calling it for so long that on her former (and admittedly late-night) talk show, they didn't bleep the offending(?) word.

TCB - they didn't have an understudy? That would have been a great lesson on the importance of understudies.

Last month I got an email from our local theater that the next day's performance was canceled because of an injury to a cast member. I was stunned that there was no understudy.

I made two lovely deviled eggs for my breakfast -- mashed the yolks perfectly smooth and seasoned it just right. Filled the whites just right and sprinkled the tops with some paprika. Then I picked up the plate and turned too fast. They slid off the plate and landed on the floor.

Good morning, all! Last night was not a good night for me. I tried a new prescription for Ropinerole, and it did nothing to calm the shooting pains in my left ankle and the throbbing in the ball of my right foot. I am assuming this means that all of my nerve problems are the result of the lower back discs, and not restless leg syndrome. So after suffering this madness for about 2 hours, around 1:15am, I took a flexerill, which calmed things down and I finally got to sleep sometime after 2:00.

I have work here: some orchestration, some writing, and DVD catchup. Easter has never been the favorite holiday of this lapsed protestant, although I am listening to Bach's Easter Oratorio at the moment and perhaps I'll listen to Handel's Messiah next.

DR Jane, nice DC photos.

DR TCB, sorry to hear about the show. How old are the young actors?

DR Ginny, sorry to hear about the death in the Lima church family. How's Richard coping? Is this his first death as Fr Richard?

DR vixmom, tell the vixter to talk to me about the oil light, I'll terrify her into carrying a spare quart of oil at all times in the trunk of the car.

So,

Broadway Danny Rose.

Love it.  An exceptionally interesting role for Woody Allen, but as always (especially in those years), everyone excels.

This is obviously the one (maybe there are others?) that put the Carnegie Deli squarely on Woody's map.  The first several minutes with the comics are incredible.  Later there's the prolonged introduction of Mia Farrow's character which simply has to be seen to be believed.

The location shots in Manhattan and across the Hudson in NJ have to rank among Gordon Willis' best -- realistic and memorable, gritty and wonderful.  And they always left you wanting more  While I was living in California, I'd see movies like this and want to get back and explore NYC in the worst way.  Watching this now has brought that, and so much more, back to mind.

Today I have to finish "programming" (I use the term loosely) HAIRSPRAY.  Unfortunately, the process of dumping my settings to laptop via MIDI and loading them onto the same model keyboard at the site, has gone all to hell.  Something is causing the data to land in a corrupted state, and while I'll eventually determine which thing is the culprit, I just can't spend any more time on that now.  So I have to finish up here and I'll shlep my own damned keyboard to play at tomorrow evening's rehearsal, then bring theirs home with me and manually duplicate the programing on Tuesday.  It's not a terribly long job since I've already done the hard part, but on top of all the trial-and-error I've been through with this data corruption problem, it's just drudge work that needs to be gotten through.

At any rate, thus begins Hell Week.   :)

Up till a few few years ago, I'd never heard of the word.  Now there are a couple of web sites (not this one) in which I always seem to notice bad kerning, and it's finally in my vocabulary.

back from two Easter services - the first I served as  assisting minister, the Vixter was an acolyte and we had the brass band, the full adult choir, the string choir and the bell choir.  We all processed in and out and I had to give   "mission minute"

the second service I just had to do the mission  minute so I hung out in the back until it was my turn -  the second service was the same groups except  with the children's choir and the service was bilingual

Nope.  No understudies.  Since this is a youth theater / school they would probably have to double cast the show, so that the understudy could be given an equal number of performances.  Community theaters never have understudies either.

Only at the high school I work with have they ever double-cast a couple of roles, for reasons I never figured out.  They had two Marias in a West Side Story several years ago, and two Gavroches in one of their Les Mizes (which they've done twice -- oy!).

None of the multitude of community theater productions I've known over the years have had understudies.

Some of the casting for Skip's 54 SINGS TIME AND AGAIN is on the 54 Below site.

It looks like they will have different casting as between the 7:00 vs. the 9:30 show on May 11.

http://54below.com/artist/54-sings-time-and-again/

This is interesting in that in a recent BroadwayWorld interview with Randy Rainbow about 54 SINGS APPLAUSE, Penny Fuller mentioned that for that show also, the early show and the late show would not be exactly the same, or something to that effect.

Having a two o'clock call, and a 3:00 p.m. performance has kind of left me in limbo.  I woke up too late for church, and I don't really have time to go anywhere or do anything before the show.

So they confirmed that the young lady is OK today?

Well, I have head nothing, so I am assuming that we will have a performance, even if Scott has to play Meg.

LOL!  My stupid keyboard sticks.  As a result this was the original post.

Isn't that the version where one of the characters is named Smarmee?

Sounds like a fun sedar.  Is it common for people in LA to have a sedar during Passover but not on the first two nights?  I've only heard of having them on the first two nights.

I have a friend who has the sedar on the weekends now to make it easier for her children to all be there.  Every year at Passover I say next year I'm going to LA to go to her sedar.

DR Elmore, Fr. Richard has now been present for the deaths of 2 parishioners and has presided over the funerals of several others.  Mr. B's service will be at the church next Saturday.  Richard is exhausted, both physically and emotionally.  Easter weekend is his busiest time (3 services in 4 days) and he spent much of his "day off" yesterday at the hospital.

TCB - they didn't have an understudy? That would have been a great lesson on the importance of understudies.

Last month I got an email from our local theater that the next day's performance was canceled because of an injury to a cast member. I was stunned that there was no understudy.

Nope.  No understudies.  Since this is a youth theater / school they would probably have to double cast the show, so that the understudy could be given an equal number of performances.  Community theaters never have understudies either.

I've never been in a community production that had an understudy, except when an actor knew that he or she wasn't going to be a certain performances, and the director and producer agreed to hire that person anyway.  Otherwise, we're always taking the chance that someone could get sick and we all hope that no one does.

Some of the casting for Skip's 54 SINGS TIME AND AGAIN is on the 54 Below site.

It looks like they will have different casting as between the 7:00 vs. the 9:30 show on May 11.

http://54below.com/artist/54-sings-time-and-again/ (http://54below.com/artist/54-sings-time-and-again/)

This is interesting in that in a recent BroadwayWorld interview with Randy Rainbow about 54 SINGS APPLAUSE, Penny Fuller mentioned that for that show also, the early show and the late show would not be exactly the same, or something to that effect.

Fred, do you know if they're going to record the performances?
