Title: ENORMOUS MAGNITUDE
Post by: bk on April 24, 2014, 11:59:38 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes had enormous magnitude, and now it is time for you to post until the enormous cows come home.

To continue from last night about the play "Chamber Music" (I'm the Assistant Stage Manager) being funny...there have always been some funny moments, but when you've seen a show for a couple of weeks and there has not been any kind of outside audience, you don't really know how funny it can be because we're all used to the script.

Tonight, I realized that it's funnier than I remembered and/or expected. :)

Hopefully, we can get an audience to come to the show.  Tonight and tomorrow are the nights for Olympia's Arts Walk (http://olympiawa.gov/community/parks/community-events/artswalk.aspx).  Parking is going to be a problem.  I need to be there by 6:30, but I'll probably have to plan to be there by 6:15 at the very latest.  That should give me enough time to find parking.  ALSO, the board is supposed to bring snacks for a little after-the-show reception/party since this is opening night of our very first show in our very own space. :)

AUTOMATIC: AN AN AUTO ACCESSORY TO MAKE YOU A SMART DRIVER

This came up as featured ad on my Facebook page. I don't normally click on them, but this looked interesting but it's a little pricey. I read the pros and cons reviews on Amazon (which are always somewhat suspect) and other websites

Has anyone tried this or a similar product? What are your thoughts on it?

Good morning, all! I had a long dream about working on a production of JUBILEE and lots of ladies walking around in 1930s costumes. We were trying to get a star for the show, and we finally got Mary Boland. Then I woke up.

I am off to Toyland.

Friday morning greetings!  I'm expecting a call in a couple of hours from my college friend Anne that will be my signal to drive out to the east end of town to meet her for lunch.  She's driving south and our visit will be her first stop.  We haven't seen each other for almost 2 years, so it will probably be a long lunch.

DR George, I'm happy that CHAMBER MUSIC went so well. I love the MNozart string quartet asked for, and I still laugh over "Joan of Arc/Died in the dark." "Gertrude Stein is fat."

Has the fact been discussed that maybe she really is Amelia Earhart (is a dear heart) since every other lady in the play is dead?

I've been up since five-thirty - scratchy throat and too much in the cranium.  Please send huge most excellent vibes and xylophones for a not sick BK - part of the problem is I'm hanging around a lot of school kids plus not getting enough sleep plus having been out of Airborne for five days - I just went to Gelson's and got some and have taken four tablets just now.  Hopefully that will nip this in the bud because I have no time for this, especially with the Kritzerland show looming.

Healing/stay well vibes for MR BK.  The show is coming along quite nicely.

After last night, I have decided that I am re-doing the HAVANA sequence from scratch.  I brought home my score so I can figure it out.....

Break legs vibes for DR GEORGE on opening his new space and new show!!!  We need photos.

And I think tonight is the opening night for DR MATTHEW'S Young Frankenstein!

So I went to bank to make a deposit, then I went to WalMart to buy some hangers....you can do that kind of thing on Friday morning when you are retired.  I also bought a few other things. There was only ONE register open....so I got in line.m  It was a little after 9 a.m.

AND SO.....I told the "TEAM" exactly what I thought about no registers being open, about the self-serve registers that NEVER work and someone has to be there to help people with them anyway, and I hope they enjoy congratulating themselves.....I channeled my inner BK.

Another register was opened....but I don't imagine anything I said is even remembered by ANY of them now....which is 90 minutes later.

Meanwhile on the way home, I stopped at the station and got my $100.

The wonderful Dennis Kyle is joining our Li'l Abner family as Mayor Dawgmeat (and a few other choice morsels) - he's got a great voice and is funny and that's a good thing.

I did sit this morning and write down random bits I want to do in the ballet, plus made a list of all the plot points that have to be covered, just so I hit all the beats of the scene.  There is almost nothing in the script other than the most general paragraph about the ballet.  But I've got it in my head now and hopefully I can get it done in three hours and then move directly to the finale, then back to Typical Day.

LOL.....it made me feel better anyway!

I am very happy.  My mom - who is 83 - has finally decided to stop working.  She has been doing alterations for clothes for a local Wrangler store since 1970....they bring jeans and other items to her daily, and she alters them.

Good vibes for a large audience!

Thanks, Jane!

I am very happy.  My mom - who is 83 - has finally decided to stop working.  She has been doing alterations for clothes for a local Wrangler store since 1970....they bring jeans and other items to her daily, and she alters them.

TODAY is her last day.  When they pick up the basket, she is done!  I am so happy.  I have been trying to encourage her to stop for many years now...and she finally did!!!

Larry, the question, "Is Amelia Earhart really Amelia Earhart?" was raised, but one or two of the ladies did die after the play is set (1939), so I don't know if in their rehearsal they dealt with that.  Our director Pug, started a Chamber Music blog (http://chambermusictao.blogspot.com/) with information about the real ladies, and to help get the word out.  Here's the poster art for the show:

Just returned home after celebratng a birthday with a good friend.  Actually, tomorrow is her birthday, but she wanted to go to Snoqualmie Casino for lunch, so it is a better deal on weekdays.  Eleven years ago, we returned home from celebrating her birthday to learn that our Chief of Police had shot his wife in the head and then killed himself; all within a few feet of where his two small children were sitting in their mother's car.  (The children saw it all)

Now I have to rush off to the theater.  Hopefully we will have an audience tonight.

Greetings everyone, and happy Friday, albeit somewhat late,

I just returned from a one night gig in Colorado Springs. It was lovely, but singing at 7,000 feet altitude is always a challenge when you've had no time to acclimate. All went well. And because of the exhausting day of travel and performance, I slept very well there, and didn't need to pretend to try and sleep in coach on the flight home.

On said flight home, I got back to this lovely book I started last week, but had no time to continue with, in the mix of three staged readings and their dump of new material to learn. Hmm, lemme see - the title was RED GOLD. I read it all the way home today, could not put it down until I finished it. I Absolutely LOVED IT!!!!!  What  a wonderful book, BK!! I loved everything about it - the tone and textures, the pace, the dialogue, the delicious characters all. Part of me wanted John to get to his plan sooner, but your pacing was so perfect for that era and milieu. Like Jeremiah reading his McAlester stories, I had to know what happened next, so I couldn't stop reading. I was absolutely charmed by this book, with its mix of danger and humor. And the way you painted it all, I could feel the dust and the rain, the worry and the ache, and even the taste of rock candy. Bravo, BK!!  It's a real winner!
Yeah, I grew up loving westerns too. And the only newer one I really had fun watching was Silverado.

Okay, though I really wanna nap now, I have music to learn for this table read I am doing with this wonderful cast tomorrow (Valerie Perri, Barry Pearl, Mary Gordon Murray and Lainie Kazan). Did I mention I got two new songs to learn for it on Wednesday? Oy. No rest for the wicked, it seems.   :D

DR DAN M I have never seen or heard of that LP....do you own it?  What is it? It looks like maybe it was a television show or something.

No, I was looking for things on Charles Nelson Reilly, knew he had been on the stage many, many times, and came across this LP that he had recorded with Robert Morse, I think in 1962 or 1963.  It looks intriguing as I like both of them, but wanted to find out if anyone had heard the record and what they thought of it.

I knew Charles Nelson Reilly from his many visits to the Drama Book Shop, and I always looked forward to seeing him. I liked him enormously; we talked opera, singers, shows, his students, and gossip, and when he was in Jupiter, Florida, he'd call to order things and we'd talk about the productions and his students.. He had a brief fling with a jerk co-worker, who essentially thought Reilly would make him  star. Whatever happened to that sleazebag?

He was one of those pretty boys who learned early that flirting and cozying up to people would help you. His roommate at the time was a super at the Met (he's on the MAHAGONNY DVD) and was kept for a while by directr John Dexter, believing Dexter would make him a star. He got a tv cliseup on MAHAGONNY and possibly the AIDS that killed Dexter. I haven't seen either of those young men since maybe 1984 or so. I honestly have no idea of either is even still alive.

Whew!  It's been crazy lately.   Today I was feeling good because I knew we had accomplished what we wanted to get done.  I went to give Callie her morning meds and she ran down by the deep freeze in the basement.  I looked down and realized when I unplugged it to vacuum the basement, I forgot to plug it back in.....5 days earlier.  OMG!!!

It was scary doing the ballet, but I just got on a roll and did it - took about four hours all told and I have to say there are some really funny things in it.  I've never loved the film choreography - very dancy and jokey in only a dance way, save for one amusing gag with Earthquake, which I used, too.  But that's the only thing and the rest is not dancy at all - just a bunch of fun bits strung together - I probably cut about twenty to thirty bars of music - it does go on.  So, I think ours runs five to six minutes instead of close to eight.  I've also always found it odd that Evil Eye Fleagle does a whammy before the final one, which robs that one of its power - so we don't do that.

My first reaction was to plug it back in without looking and then throw everything away when it was frozen.  But I decided that wasn't the best idea and opened the freezer.   There wasn't that much in there but it was stinky.  I threw out two 1/2 full garbage bags of food (too heavy for one bag) and since there had been ice in there, what was left was about 4 -6 inches of water with gross stuff floating in it.    So, I baled the water and dried it out with paper towels. I propped it open a little so it wouldn't get moldy, but so the cats couldn't get into it.

When I came home I put down grass seed.  It's supposed to start raining tomorrow night and rain for 4 days, I had to get the yard done.  Hopefully we'll see rain.  It'll be the first time in years it's rained 4 days in a row.

Many thanks to RYacko for his more than kind words about Red Gold.  It's really nice to hear.

I got the entire ballet staged as well as the finale

THAT is amazing and fantastic news. Let's hope they retain what they've learned.

How unfortunate about the lost food, DR Cillaliz. Not to mention the inconvenience.

A gold star to DC Callie for alerting you to the situation.      :)

Thanks Vixmom.  I am truly thankful that I discovered it this morning before it got moldy.  I'll still clean it out with bleach water just to make sure it's disinfected.  I was meaning to clean it out, just didn't think it would be this way

I like Weather Nation.  They just said the severe storm threat goes south from Siouxland.  I've never heard the Weather Channel call us Siouxland, which is what we go by

Good evening.

Show was great.  Actually, from what everyone said, and judging by audience reaction, it was superb.  It's so odd how this happens, but from the opening of the curtain, you could tell that this audience (a full house, which they don't always manage to get there) was hungry for it, ready for it, AND completely tuned in.  Applause was thunderous throughout, to the point that I think it drowned out the woo-hooing, and the "now standard and obligatory" standing ovation was instantaneous -- it was like someone had installed Tinglers in every seat and turned them up to eleven just as the Bows lighting came up.  Probably the best opening night the school has ever had, and I truly hope the kids can avoid riding on those laurels (and hearty welcomes) tomorrow night, and keep that standard up.

Oh, Jane, I asked the guy who set up the children's book section about the Cleaver book.  He said he didn't see anything like that.  Since he saw every book, I'm guessing it's not there, but I'll look. He did say there's a book about a farting dog, and that it was a good book.  I didn't take the time to look for it, lol

I don't know which way the wind will blow in terms of my throat - it will either go away by tomorrow, or it won't.  If it doesn't, that could be really problematic so please keep sending those excellent vibes and xylophones.

VIBES & XYLOS FOR A HEALTHY VOICE BOX & THROAT!

BK, USE THOSE ZINC LOZENGES & ZICAMS, ZINC REALLY HELPS!

I liked him enormously; we talked opera, singers, shows, his students, and gossip, and when he was in Jupiter, Florida, he'd call to order things and we'd talk about the productions and his students. . . .

CNR was a great guest on Johnny Carson and made MATCH GAME throughout the 1970s the afternoon "after-hours" party that it always seemed like it was.

I used to have (but was one of the things that was stolen from me) the complete Sid & Marty Krofft series that starred CNR, "Lidsville" which  is really out there, and that's saying a lot 'cause their shows where already pretty out there to begin with.  For those who don't know, the series begins with Butch Patrick falling into a magician's hat which opens into a magical land called Lidsville, a society of walking and talking hats, mainly voiced by Joan Gerber and Walker Edmiston.  Charles Nelson Reilly is the baddie, playing Hoodoo the Magician who flies around in a flattened top hat.

I have the Walter the Farting Dog stuffed animal, which doesn't fart any more.  I guess either the battery's finito or he's pooped out.

I've been doing ColdEEZ every couple of hours and Airborne.  I think this would not have happened if I hadn't been out of Airborne all week - BUT, I'm hoping that it will help stop this.

DR TCB what do you mean no one saw your show?

Well, that wasn't actually correct.  We had five people show up.

Sat on the couch like so much fish, turned on some documentary that I wasn't interested in and had a nice thirty-minute snooze.  I REALLY need this yucky feeling to get the HELL out of here.

Tonight was a great show with a great audience.  I keep asking if we can record the show for educational purposes, but it doesn't sound like it is going to happen.

Actually, this recording wouldn't even have to be for educational purposes since the book is in public domain and the adaption was written by our director.
