Well, you've read the notes, the notes had excellent vibes and xylophones and chicken soup, and now it is time for you to post until the soupy cows come home.

Topic o' the Day:  there haven't really been any murders that "fascinated" me, except for the OJ trial...and only because a lot of people at work were talking about and following it.  It's not the kind of new story that I'm interested in.

I am surprised there isn't a dedication on the Nook version of "Red Gold".  I'm sure the book has a nice one as all the other novels have done so.

Good morning, all! I slept quite well, and I am now bathed, dressed and ready for physical therapy.  Before I go, i must call my HMO referral dept. and inquire about a referral.

When I get home from therapy, i must prepare to see the sports/back injuries specialist at 2:15. I've printed out the MRI report, and I'm curious to see how it goes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Most excellent vibes & xylophones to DR Jeanne and everyone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TOD:
William Desmond Taylor.
I studied that case for years; hoped to do a book about it.
Interviewed everybody from from Adela Rogers St. John to King Vidor to Mary Miles Minter (Did she do it or was it her mother?)
Vidor, who may be the only outsider to have reviewed the police files, offered to collaborate with me, but Adela Rogers St. John advised against it.  "What do you need his for?" she said.
I listened to her, which was a big mistake and resulted in my NOT writing the best-selling book, A CAST OF KILLERS.
 :'(
I'm still toying with the idea of doing something with the material at some point; perhaps a stage play.
I am surprised since the three hour warning from the east coast viewers should have given you three hours.  I wll see if I can find the clip on youtube. I am sure cbs.com puts up the entire show. It was between 8:30pm and 8:40pm i think.
DR Jane I reread your comments about the book I was reading. It was not just the ending of the book that was gut wrenching. There were multiple parts. For some reason I do not actually think this book would be your taste. I was just curious if you like books like that. I find them hard to read but they are often the books that I give five stars too since the make me feel so strongly.
Skip's TIME AND AGAIN concert evening on Mothers Day had to be postponed, likely until fall.  Skip's totally fine about it, so no sorry's needed at all - just the nature of the cabaret world, and better it be done right later on than done too fast and sooner.
It looks like it turned out to be a much bigger enterprise to coordinate than they had expected, given the number of people and production aspects they'd planned.
And a side note - No one here is disappointed about the postponement because it also turned out some friends and out-of-town relatives couldn't come because of Mothers Day.
I woke up earlier than I'd have liked, but that gave me a chance to finish reading An Unexpected Guest by Anne Korkeakivi.  It's an odd story, but I loved the familiar Paris setting and the details of diplomatic protocol.
Good morning, all.
Today is my day of rest.  Blessed, sweet rest.  Enjoyed a nice slow start with coffee in the recliner (the coffee was in a cup, but you know what I mean).
Now it's time for some ablutions and getting dressed, whereupon I shall wend my way through a few leisurely clean-up tasks around the house.  I was far too wiped out last night to even go near the TV, so tonight I'll ketchup with MAD MEN and with BATES MOTEL which I'm now two weeks behind on.
Vibes to all for a good Monday!
There's a lockdown at the high school in my neighborhood. A co-worker's daughter and my minister's three sons are in there. A kid with several loaded guns and knives was detained and there's talk of an accomplice somewhere in the building.
Please send vibes and prayers that this is peacefully resolved.
I totally forgot that MAD MEN was on last night, I will have to watch in ON DEMAND....whew!
Rehearsal was fine.....I got to see ALL of the routines except one....which I have already seen....there are some nice dances....and some other ones.  And of course the one professional ballroom teacher has made his dance all about himself and not much about his partner.
We are NOT couple number three, we are couple number seven....which means we are in the second part of the show.....after intermission.  Sharon was terrific, and we didn't miss any steps...so we did okay...  I would say we are definitely middle of the pack.
My coworker Pam's daughter has finally gotten a text message out that she's OK. It seems the school confiscated all phones for some reason. (My cynical thought process leads me to think it's because the district wants to control the PR.) The kid had two guns on him plus knives and he had a fully loaded AK-47 hidden in one of the bathrooms. How do you hide an AK-47 in a school bathroom?
It seems that the kids are OK, but there had been talk of an accomplice and now there's been nothing in the last hour on that. Wonder if they've given up on that idea.
Good morning, all!
I'm glad to hear you're feeling a bit better, BK.
Per your old Macbook: I had a similar problem with my Macbook (not a Pro) a year or so ago. So if the new battery doesn't right things, here's what I found on mine. It turned out to be the inverter cord, that runs between the keyboard and screen. It can wear out. I found a great Apple approved repair place in Pasadena (which I'll be happy to share once I re-find my info), who fixed it in 2 hours for about $65. It can also be the inverter itself, or the bulb in the screen, but ultimately fixable.
I'm happy to have a day off after a marathon week. I'll be even happier to finish up with the last reading in a week, which is the vampire on the Mayflower musical. Eeek!  :D
Hope everyone has a great Monday.
More vibes for BK's healing.
I got a new prescription for my migraine pills. Only problem is the doctor wrote something slighty wrong and the pharmacist didn't want to give me the pills until he spoke to her.  It is the same pharmacy that the old pills are from and the prescription is exactly the same.  But since the pills have codeine they have to make sure.  I guess they can be addictive. But I only had a prescription for 6 pills.
Anyhow the pharmacist for free gave me 3 non codeine fiorinol.
That was nice.  If you need them again, after the codeine script is filled, you can start with the stronger pills and switch to the non codeine ones as the pain is reduced.  How often do you take them once the migraine begins?
I think this is perhaps the first time I have ever seen Jason Graae get tepid reviews - for Inventing Mary Martin, which has gotten pretty much nothing but tepid reviews.  Interested to hear elmore's thoughts.  I know the author/co-director, but this will all wash over him as he doesn't read reviews.
During my lazy weekend I watched my dvd of LIL ABNER. Brought back so many fond memories of being in that show in high school...which would have been around 1980, I think.
I too thought of DR Jane and DD Sherlock while watching THE AMAZING RACE last night. Those dogs were so wonderful...that was one competition I would have gladly performed!
It was a short clip on video.  Did it last longer on the show?
Oh well, at least I saw some of it.  I have seen working Berners in the alps, on tv anyway.  The first Berners we ever saw were simply roaming the alps looking magnificent and we knew we wanted one.
I think this is perhaps the first time I have ever seen Jason Graae get tepid reviews - for Inventing Mary Martin, which has gotten pretty much nothing but tepid reviews.  Interested to hear elmore's thoughts.  I know the author/co-director, but this will all wash over him as he doesn't read reviews.
One thing I found odd from reading the reviews is that they gave Jason the task of recreating Martin's famous fashion sketch. It's funny when a woman performs it. Sounds sexists when performed by a man.
I got a new prescription for my migraine pills. Only problem is the doctor wrote something slighty wrong and the pharmacist didn't want to give me the pills until he spoke to her.  It is the same pharmacy that the old pills are from and the prescription is exactly the same.  But since the pills have codeine they have to make sure.  I guess they can be addictive. But I only had a prescription for 6 pills.
Anyhow the pharmacist for free gave me 3 non codeine fiorinol.
That was nice.  If you need them again, after the codeine script is filled, you can start with the stronger pills and switch to the non codeine ones as the pain is reduced.  How often do you take them once the migraine begins?
I usually only take 1 or 2 but yesterday I took 1 three times.  Is the non-codeine one a lot less strong? I really didn't even realize my pills had codeine or why the pharmacist wouldn't give me the pills when I explained what the doctor had meant (she was trying to copy my old prescription which the pharmacist could see in his computer). But because they are narcotics he said he had to double check.
It looked fun but a bit unfair for any women doing it. I dislike the all woman team since I find them incompetent but I really dislike challenges where women are unable to do them in any reasonable amount of time.
During a part of the comp the person had to carry the filled milk jugs through the snow.  The woman took what seemed like 10 times as long since it was 60 lbs.
Of course the most important thing is that it was fair to the dogs.
The dog part was just the dogs pulling the cart and was equal to all competitors. Although funnily one dog was stockier (competitor's words) and his dog outran the smaller one.
TOD:
William Desmond Taylor.
I studied that case for years; hoped to do a book about it.
Interviewed everybody from from Adela Rogers St. John to King Vidor to Mary Miles Minter (Did she do it or was it her mother?)
Vidor, who may be the only outsider to have reviewed the police files, offered to collaborate with me, but Adela Rogers St. John advised against it.  "What do you need his for?" she said.
I listened to her, which was a big mistake and resulted in my NOT writing the best-selling book, A CAST OF KILLERS.
 :'(
I'm still toying with the idea of doing something with the material at some point; perhaps a stage play.
 :-\
I certainly wish you would do something with all that material.  I have been interested in that case for years.
Skip's TIME AND AGAIN concert evening on Mothers Day had to be postponed, likely until fall.  Skip's totally fine about it, so no sorry's needed at all - just the nature of the cabaret world, and better it be done right later on than done too fast and sooner.
It looks like it turned out to be a much bigger enterprise to coordinate than they had expected, given the number of people and production aspects they'd planned.
Sounds like a good reason to postpone.  Good luck to Skip with the rescheduling!
That's great!  The first time that I downloaded it and found that it was wonky, I was able to return it for credit through Amazon without any trouble.  This second time, I couldn't find the link(s) that allowed me to return it.  That's why I called and I'm glad I did. ;D
There's a lockdown at the high school in my neighborhood. A co-worker's daughter and my minister's three sons are in there. A kid with several loaded guns and knives was detained and there's talk of an accomplice somewhere in the building.
Please send vibes and prayers that this is peacefully resolved.
My coworker Pam's daughter has finally gotten a text message out that she's OK. It seems the school confiscated all phones for some reason. (My cynical thought process leads me to think it's because the district wants to control the PR.) The kid had two guns on him plus knives and he had a fully loaded AK-47 hidden in one of the bathrooms. How do you hide an AK-47 in a school bathroom?
It seems that the kids are OK, but there had been talk of an accomplice and now there's been nothing in the last hour on that. Wonder if they've given up on that idea.
The lockdown has been lifted. Here's the latest from one of the TV stations:
You want gross?  You want a gross coincidence?  Last night I was in the whatever-you-call-it, the prepared hot/cold foods takeout section at the supermarket, and they had an Asian (-style) salad with chicken in it, exactly the kind of thing I was in the mood for.  I didn't like that these chicken bits were breaded -- for me, that's totally inappropriate to the salad thing -- but I threw a few in there anyway.  Got home, took the first bite of chicken, and I could swear they'd breaded a joint with two bones in it.  Threw it away, tried another piece.  Either a bit of bone, or gristle.  YUCK!  Never again.  I could tell that a couple of the other pieces were pure white meat, so I ate them.  The rest of the salad was nice, but I'll never go near it again and I shall mention it to them next time I'm in there.  I will also mention that breaded meats do not go into a salad.  (If anyone here thinks otherwise, just say so.)
"a joint with two bones in it" - sounds like a title idea for something
Didn't word that too awfully well, did I?  Well, it's the chicken's damn fault.  They shouldn't have so many bones and gristle.
DR TCB does your store have a deli counter where you can purchase small, but healthier, portions?
Yes, mother!
John G  I am so happy about the non violent ending of your story.  I cannot imagine the terror  your friend and minister were going through.
Thank goodness those parents  thought about the greater good and acted  rather than trying to coverup  their son's  actions.
But yes,  why does ANYONE  need to have an AK whatever in their home?
Speaking of food, I went to a fundraiser tonight for a chef who is battling cancer. A group of chefs got together to help her out with her bills. They staged a picnic on a beautiful evening. There was a crawfish boil, barbecued chicken, baby back ribs, deviled eggs, corn on the cob, a watermelon salad with crab meat, rice noodles with shrimp and a bunch of other wonderful things. It was just pleasant. I sat with some people I knew and just relaxed. I needed to do that. And I'm glad it was for a good cause.
Nasty meat. The way they raised them is enough for me not to eat it too often.
I have been down in the dumps the last couple of days.  After all the hard work, the talented cast of young people, and the great review; we just didn't draw audiences.  It was a very discouraging last two weeks.
They didn't say anything, but I know they were expecting a better response.  The posters were up everywhere.  The publicity was out there.  What bothers me is only three people I know came to see the show.  I am not talking about friends, just three people that I know.
Makes me happy to hear it!  Muse Margaret agrees with you!
Kritzerland rehearsal was way too rough for me and I'm afraid I was not very nice to the MD, who did not do his homework.  I worked with him for four hours on arrangements, not a one of which he played today, which means he did not do his homework.  I was not a happy camper and frankly neither were our singers.
Abner rehearsal, which actually got to on time was also rough - we reviewed things, but despite my asking people for the last week to run their blocking when not working with me, not a one of them had and therefore no one kind of knew what they were doing.  We got up to speed and I ran a good chunk of act one, which we'll continue tomorrow.  My voice is completely trashed and I'm feeling congested, but hopefully after some rest I'll feel better.
I know what you mean.  I've seen some incredible theater here in Olympia, but for some reason it's just so hard to get the butts in the seats.  A non-equity national tour of CATS can practically sell out two 1000-seat performances, but "Chamber Music" is lucky if we get a dozen people in our little theater.  Oh, well...we do it because we love it, not for the fame and/or glory. ;)
Tom, I really wish I could've gone.  One problem with theater people with theater friends is that they sometimes have shows at the same time.
