And the word of the day is: APLOMB!
I am not happy with the times in which we are living.....particularly....the lack of critical thinking.
And also - the polarization of politics. It is impossible to have a political discussion today because no one is in the middle any more [well some are] the "other side" is entirely responsible for every bad thing that has happened or is happening. And all the candidates seem to run on the premise that "I'm bad, but the other guy is worse!" As Roseanne once said: The only time politicians are telling the truth is when they're calling each other liars.
I hate that every kid is "Special" and has to be treated with kid gloves and catered to. This is the parents' fault, not the kid's.
I will stop there....but that is just the beginning.
Of course there are also TONS of things to LIKE about our times. The good people, though rare, are really GOOD!
I agree,DR JRand63! I'd add that while there is much of "social media" I detest, like the 99% of morons who walk about watching a phone rather than where they are walking, I am so glad that I can be connected so quickly to so many excellent friends around the globe.
My dad's not been in the best of health lately. Turns out he accidentally huffed some paint fumes, before disposing of some old cans, and that's what caused his problems. At 86.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Or get him into rehab.
Just grateful he's better now.

I watched the preview today and decided that I don't want to watch the movie.

DR Ginny, some of those faces look familiar, but Iwas thrown outhad left Ohio by 1979. I wonder where that library card is now?
Guilt by association, eh DR Ginny? 8)

Sad news:
The lady I "back up" at work had a seizure Friday night. She was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center where she was diagnosed as having blood clots on her brain. She was partially paralyzed.
Yesterday, the doctors decided they had to operate to remove the clots. The operation did not succeed and "Sharon" is essentially brain dead and on life support. They are waiting for her son to arrive before removing life support.
We are all stunned.
Since it's Throw-Back Thursday elsewhere on the Internet, here's my contribution. It's the staff of the library at Miami University-Middletown at the opening of the 1980-81 academic year.
I am now well enough to go through the preliminaries for surgical repair of my rather large ventral hernia.
Vibes for continued heartening for BK!

MATRON (Spoken)
The whole world's gone low-brow. Thing's ain't what they used to be.
VELMA (Spoken)
They sure ain't, Mama. They sure ain't it's all gone.

Whatever happened to fair dealing?
And pure ethics
And nice manners?
Why is it everyone now is a pain in the ass?
Whatever happened to class?
MATRON
Class.
Whatever happened to, "Please, may I?"
And, "Yes, thank you?"
And, "How charming?"
Now, every son of a bitch is a snake in the grass
Whatever happened to class?
VELMA and MATRON
Class!
Ah, there ain't no gentlemen
To open up the doors
There ain't no ladies now,
There's only pigs and whores
And even kids'll knock ya down
So's they can pass
Nobody's got no class!
VELMA
Whatever happened to old values?
MATRON
And fine morals?
VELMA
And good breeding?
MATRON
Now, no one even says "oops" when they're
Passing their gas
Whatever happened to class?
VELMA
Class
VELMA and MATRON
Ah, there ain't no gentlemen
That's fit for any use
And any girl'd touch your privates
For a deuce
MATRON
And even kids'll kick your shins and give you sass
VELMA

VELMA and MATRON
Nobody's got no class!
VELMA
All you ready about today is rape and theft
MATRON
Jesus Christ, ain't there no decency left?
VELMA and MATRON
Nobody's got no class!
MATRON
Everybody you watch
VELMA

What became of class?

Is that as painful as it sounds?
Congratulations you continue to improve and vibes the surgery won't set you back much.
DR Dan M - any surgery is of course a concern, but it does sound like things are moving in the right direction. Glad you have the good news and that your doctors are positive.
That is bad enough DR Dan but I am glad you weren't suffering with it as many do.

Nice photo DR Ginny. I do hope the woman on the top right was much friendlier than she appears in the photo.

DR Elmore, the people standing in the back row are Charlotte, Lynn, Joanne, and Mildred. Mary is seated next to me. I've left out last names to protect their privacy. You would have known all but Lynn. I hired him to replace me when I became director shortly after you left Middletown.

Mldred looks like a very unhappy person.
It keeps popping up on my Facebook page that today is the 60th birthday of a friend who died more than a year ago. Haven't hat the heart to "unfriend" her...
I do not think these are good days. I do not believe we are a free society anymore. Freedom of thought, freedom of expression etc only apply to those who agree with the current administration. If you have any different opinions, god forbid you should express them. You will be attacked, you will be berated and they will try to destroy you. If you think this administration is tolerant, you aren't paying attention. They are only tolerant of those who agree with them.
What ever happened to fighting so those who don't share your opinion still have a right to express theirs? That's what our country was founded on and that no longer exists. It's a sad situation.
BK, aren't you glad you asked ;)
It is terrible, DR vixmom, but I have visions of that scene with the mops from Fantasia whenever I think of your basement....
This afternoon, I had my follow up appointment and learned that the home sleep study determined definitively that I do, indeed, have sleep apnea in a mild form. My airways are blocked and my body is waking up in order to open the airway at least 15 times per hour through the night (the number goes way up from there for people who have a more severe case). In any case, it means that I wake from a night's sleep not really rested.
With this determination, the insurance company has to cover the treatment, so they issued my CPAP machine then and there, and tonight will be my first trial run with it. I know that it will take a period of adjustment to sleeping with the mask on, but I am bound and determined to stick with it and get on the program.
So this is a good outcome and good news, and I hope eventually better sleep and rest for the likes of me.

But here's what happened that was interesting: First of all, your most excellent vibes and xylophones are so helpful and so appreciated by the likes of me - I have no idea how this situation will ultimately play out, so keep 'em coming, but for now the production seems safe. But the interesting thing is in one of my many discussions about what's going on (and I have literally been on the phone for hours and hours), someone said, just go in and be your usual positive self, that's all you can do. And that was music to my ears, because when I first heard about what happened it really sent me into a bad place. So, first off, today's Kritzerland rehearsal was the opposite of Monday's - just great. And then I went into that Abner rehearsal, took the bull by the horns, made everyone in the room laugh and we had one of the best rehearsals ever - every person in that room had energy and fun I just haven't been seeing. The first five minutes were completely off-putting to me, because they involved what's going on, and it was handled in kind of a witch-hunty kind of Crucible way, which was really offensive. But once we were past that, boy, did we have fun. And just about every kid in the cast came up afterwards and thanked me and said what a great time they'd had. Plus, I got my pie of the every other month and since it's too dangerous to keep in the house, I brought it to rehearsal and two-thirds of the way through I told everyone if they did the number perfectly they could have it - and they did. For the first time for all of us, I think the fun of the show is starting to seep through. I made many little adjustments to the opening number and other numbers. So, I will continue to accentuate the positive and hope that everything plays out okay - I do know that one faculty member is going to speak on my behalf to someone, and that will hopefully be helpful.
