Well, you've read the notes, the notes fought the guck, and now it is time for you to post until the guck-ridden cows come home.

Well, last night we had a good performance of "Chamber Music."  After the show, we had a cast party at the space and it was a LOT of fun.  I don't drink and didn't dance much, but much dirt was dished (discreetly, of course)! ;)

Today is going to be a day.  A couple of weeks ago, I saw the new musical version of "A Room With a View" at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle and they had to stop the show TWICE!  I was given the chance to see it again for FREE(!) and I took it!  However, my sister and her boyfriend who went before can't today, and my mom doesn't want to go again.  So, a couple of friends and I are going.  I did get four free tickets, and we're only going to use three, so I'll probably just give one away at the theater...we'll see what happens.

We do have to be back in time for tonight's last two performances of "Chamber Music."  Christian, our stage manager and friend of TCB's, said that as long as I get back for the second show at 10:00 pm, all will be good.  We should be back in time for the first show at 8:00 pm, though.  I don't think that either of my friends expects to go out tomorrow.  But again, we'll see what happens.

And now, I'm off to bed, perchance to get up in time to get some gas before we leave for Seattle.  I don't know who's going to drive, but I need to be ready just in case I have to.

Late Night Trivia Question

What do all the movies have in common. (Something very specific)

Greetings

The Flamingo Kid
Georgy Girl

I will give the answer later today so other people can try their hand at it.

Excellent point last night about how Encores rewrites the books, BK.   Their point has tended to be about the scores, which seems to have remained consistent.

DR Cillaliz that is good that you found a solution for everyone involved.  My only problem with the situation is that your brother said it was fine and then 2 days before changed his mind.  IMO if he commits to your idea then it is unfair to you to want to change it last minute.  He should have discussed it with his family at the time to let you know.

Good morning, all! I slept quite nicely, and I've been out of bed for about 45 minutes. I foolishly forgot yesterday that I needed to do laundry so I began that around 30 minutes ago.

And it's time to move things to the dryers.

And more coffee!

I'm listening to the revival of Finian's Rainbow, which I haven't listened to in a couple of years. I loved working on the production, and I wish it had had a better run. I still blame marketing for this one's closing.  I had forgotten how good the recording is.

So, today I will board a bus around 11 and head down to 57th Street. I'm meeting a friend for lunch at the Brooklyn Diner before he and I had to the Encores! matinee. I'll watch it from backstage, stsay for the talkback, and see Rob and his parents, exchange work with him and visit with his fantastic parents. Then, I come home, and maybe I can finally watch Philomena, a Netflix disc I've been ignoring for several weeks.

What is it about aging that seems to bring out so many sibling issues that one never knew existed?  Much as I love my brother Randy, he's currently in the doghouse with the Macbeths over my dad's property. As to the Macbeths, they're dead meat. Yet thirty years ago I would never have expected to discover how much Macbeth disliked me. I certainly never had issues with him.

DR cillaliz, I think your solution for Mother's Day is a very clever one. Have fun today.

Last night a friend had about ten people over for a sort of wine and cheese party and a showing of the movie SIDEWAYS which I had seen a couple of times but not in several years.  I was very good about the amount of food and drink I took in, and the movie was very enjoyable.

Today, a bit of housecleaning, and getting completely packed and having the car completely ready to go.  I'd like to be out of here at six in the a.m. Sunday morning.  I'll be traveling on Mother's Day. which is also my dad's 89th birthday.  It would be nice to have been there on that day instead of traveling on it, but other things prevented it.  We'll be doing his birthday dinner on Monday.

Very rough night - still fighting the guck (and hopefully winning), but there is something in marinara sauce that just doesn't sit well with me and I have to stop eating it.  So, heartburn aplenty and a wacky throat, but hopefully I'll feel better as the day goes along.  I think I got six hours of sleep but who knows.

DR Cilla I like your win, win idea and agree it isn't worth saying anything to your brother.  He doesn't need the stress and he can't change the situation without causing problems at home.  It isn't worth it.

For some reason I am feeling nervous. It is my niece's semi-finals swim meet this morning.

I'm not surprised you are feeling nervous. :)  How did she do?

They did not post all of the results yet.  So I only partially know.  She did finish 2nd in back stroke and swam 50.5 seconds for 50 m (that is 2 seconds faster than her previous best).  She might have finished 2nd in front crawl at around 42 seconds for 50 meters.  That is 4 seconds faster than her previous best (this is what my brother-in-law timed her at).  She definitely finished 2nd in her heat which was the final heat.  But they did not post those results.  But she definitely made the finals in both events. And her coach was extremely happy with her front crawl race (her coach had some corrections for the back stroke).

The finals will be at my niece's pool in 3 weeks. So I will definitely go to that.

Cilla, I think your solution was a good and practical one--for YOU. But I'm concerned that your mother's wishes may have been bulldozed by your brother's take-charge attitude. Did I misread this? I dislike it when people charge in and expect THEIR way to override plans already made. I think it's great that your mom gets two outings, but it was hardly fair to you.  I hope that you and your brother find a way to "share" your parents, which considers the needs of all involved.

I am home from a busy day. I had a nice lunch at The Brooklyn Diner with my friend Roland, whom I've known since 1971, Then we both walked to City Center; he went in the front door, I went in the stage door. Sat backstage and watched IRMA LA DOUCE, chatted with Robert Kimball and John Kander, who were there for the talkback. Then I visited briefly with Rob Berman and his parents, and headed home.

I am very tired.

during the scene where  the eldest daughter and the tailor are asking Tevya for permission to marry there was a loud crash in the back of the house  and then a voice yelled out  "Stop!  House lights!"

An elderly woman had  collapsed and fallen off her chair and taken some  other chairs with her in her fall (the show is in a church hall on temporary rises and the seats are metal folding chairs)  so there was a  30 minutes delay in  the show while  911  was called  and the ambulance and medics and police showed up and evaluated her and took her away  and then chairs were reset and then the show  started back up

DR cillaliz, I think your solution for Mother's Day is a very clever one. Have fun today.

DR George, don't forget a program for me!

Thanks Elmore.   We did have a great day and my mother pulled a very clever one.  She called my brother this morning before I got there and invited him and told him we'd let him know when I got there.   Then when I arrived she told me to call him because he wanted to go to lunch with us and was waiting for me to call.   LOL!  I called and my sister-in-law said "I have no idea what you're talking about, let me talk to him and I'll call you right back"  so she called a couple minutes later and said "We'll be there at 12"

I didn't find out until I called my brother on the way back home that it was all mom's doing.  She cracks me up. She obviously wanted to have a meal with both of us.  So she got that.  We had a great lunch and they were babysitting for Dash so we got to see him too.

Then I took mom to an antique shop she likes to go to, and hung around with them for awhile and headed home.   It was a nice day and no stress

On the way back I drove through POURING rain and a little hail.  That always tires me out.   When I got home -120 miles away- it was almost 30 degrees warmer than where my parents are and it was a bright sunny day.  Bizaarre

Thanks Jane, I will.  She and Don went out of town today, so I didn't see her today, but did send birthday wishes

From DR Cilla:
Quote
"Now that I'm 60, I've turned nice"

I busted out laughing at that.  I suppose it is her way of apologizing.
No she just wants met to buy her book

Vixmom, the 24-hour diners are very much a metro-NYC thing, and some of the New England ones are 24 hours, too.

I've lived here too long now to know about the rest of the country, but historically I think this is the way it is.  (I love 'em!)

We have 24 hour places- usually truck stops or Perkins or IHOP or something like that, but you can order dinner or breakfast or whatever

DR Jeanne, thanks for your concern.  Mom is ok with whatever happens and when she wants to,  she has a way of getting what she wants....today it was lunch with all of us, and that's exactly what happened

Mary Linda and I had a delightful afternoon with Katie and Laura.  We met up there with Laura's friend Megan and her mom Becky.  Becky said to me, "I know you!"  She worked as a student assistant in the campus library about 30 years ago.

Connections like this are fun.

One of the stops on the tour was The Gift Gallery on Central Avenue.  The owner, Melody, and I finally determined that we knew each other from being in DR Elmore's YOU'RE A GOOD MAN CHARLIE BROWN together in 1976.

Twice in one day :)

Thank you, Vixmom. No wonder I'm exhausted.

One of the things I've noticed now that I've started clearing paths in order to clean the house is how many Christmas presents I haven't been able to enjoy because of the bbq book and the last class. I've got books and CDs, DVDs and more waiting to be enjoyed.

It's kinda like Christmas all over again.

DR Cilla, the truck stops would be the closest thing to a northeastern diner for the general vibe and large variety of foodstuffs night and day.  These menus, though, have to be seen to be believed.

Third hour of "The Sorrow and the Pity." I think it's been better to approach this like a miniseries than watch it all in one sitting.

I would rather be at the STAGE show tonight.

Last night I posted

Late Night Trivia Question

What do all the movies have in common. (Something very specific)

Greetings
Henry and June
The Split
The Flamingo Kid
Georgy Girl

I will give the answer later today so other people can try their hand at it.

And here is the answer

These are the first films to be rated by (But not necessary released first) by the MPAA in the following categories

Greetings X Rated (no longer used)
Henry and June (NC-17)
The Split (R)
The Flamingo Kid (PG-13, but Red Dawn was released first)
Georgy Girl (M later changed to GP and then to PG)

and I couldn't find the first G rated

Wow!  What a shock.  I tuned into my PBS station to watch the new Celtic Thunder Show tonight only to find out that George Donaldson, "the big brother" of the group died last month of a massive heart attack.  He was only 46 years old.

Really enjoyed Martin as Annie Oakley more than I thought I would. It made for a nice leadup to Sound of Music, watching her act with all of the kids.
