Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Capitol, and now it is time for you to post until the Capitol cows come home.

And the word of the day is: MELIORISM!

Good morning, all! I was having very strange Encores! dreams about selecting a show and running about City Center with Joshie, and I figured, the hell with it and crawled out of bed around 6:15. I've accomplished everything I need to do here for today's concert, and I'm looking forward to seeing our DR ChasSmith, Joshie, and whoever else shows up today. Rob told me there were several friends showing up, and I forgot to ask him who.
Today at the Church I'll light a candle and pray for work. Tomorrow, i'm back to my usual routine with physical therapy at 10.
-
Good morning, all.
The train is leaving the station!
(Next station stop, River City? I hope not.)
-
Thursday morning greetings! More household puttering today, after my 30-minute basement walk.
All in all, I'd rather be at Trinity Church...
-
It is what it is.

BK: Have been pondering what you've said you're about to do regarding Kritzerland product available exclusively at your site vice placing copies with other distributors.
My thoughts are that since you're pretty sure you're going that route, make an advance announcement at all the sites where interest lies in the product you put out. Let folks know they can easily access your website and that you take PayPal, etc. Invite anyone with concerns to contact you at one of your e-mail addresses so you can address those concerns before a title is announced.
Just some thoughts....

Yes, "Huckleberry Hound (and Friends)" was among my TOD favorites, as well.

Good morning, all.
The Capital news is wonderful. Hoping there will be photos.

I do believe I'm up. I was up at eight, and then fell back asleep, which is good because I didn't fall asleep until three.
-
Now, it may just be me, but page ONE? Really?
-
I should think that better change and quick.
-
Well, at least they can't say that we didn't reach page 1.
-
Whew! This morning I had my teeth cleaned at the dentist.
Then I sang a memorial service (no one that I knew).
I think lunch is in order.
-
But, really - Page ONE??
-
Some of my G/D cast were entertaining at a Kiwanis luncheon today.....I have not heard how it went.
-
I think if you can make Kritzerland more successful by being the ONLY PLACE....by all means, it should be done that way.

What a lucky find! Wow! That is really an awesome outfit and quite authentic looking.

LOL DR GEORGE.
Yes DR MBARNUM, probably the best suit in the show...better than our rented ones.

I think I have a Lancelot Link LP.

ULTRAMAN

JOHNNY SOKO AND HIS FLYING ROBOT
(http://media.insidepulse.com/zones/insidepulse/uploads/2013/01/91-0AapZZ5L._AA1500_-500x500.jpg)
Watched both shows regularly! Johnny Soko and His Flying Robot was about the only kiddy show we got on Sundays in Medford Oregon in 1973, aside from The Rocky and Bullwinkle show.

More pictures, MBarnum. Please.

And I am home from THE MERRY WIDOW and seeing several friends, including our DR ChasSmith, my son Joshie, and Ben Davis. I'm too close to this to have an unbiased opinion, so we'll wait to hear from DR Chassmith on how it went. This was our shakiest of the three in terms of rehearsal time; everyone involved had horrific schedules, so I believe today and yesterday were our only dates with the entire cast together. O was very proud of what we accomplished.
Here's today's link for the 5/29 Concert at One:

As you know, I thought the bad business was basically done and I was preparing to send my e-mail letter on Monday next. Well, it isn't done apparently, as my guest artists today received an e-mail - and one that was so stupidly worded that it just makes everything about this even better in terms of what I want and will now expect. The stupidity is actually mind-boggling and it starts with the header of the e-mail. Our Abner has already responded and well, Barry will respond in the morning (he's got too much on today) and I assume Maddy will as well. I now have to revise my e-mail to include this latest outrage, and then I will definitely be looking at my legal options.
-
Oh BK, sorry to hear that the bad business is continuing. What the heck is this person(s) trying to accomplish?

In regards to the TOD:
The very first show I remember really falling in love with as a kid was
'Flipper'. One reason was simply because I loved water and swimming. But
most of all, I always loved watching children perform adult feats. Are all
children like that? Anyway, I just got the biggest thrill out of watching
those two boys dive in the water with their scuba gear. I was only about 5
years old and I doubt I ever could follow the plots, but it didn't matter.
I wanted to BE them. Thus, in 1970. it was a no-brainer when my older
sister read me a story from TV Guide about a new show coming in the Fall
about a mother and her four children who perform in a band and practice in
their garage that I would immediately fall in love with that show too. How
could I not?
-

Ditto :(
-
Oh BK, sorry to hear that the bad business is continuing. What the heck is this person(s) trying to accomplish?
It is, quite simply a witch-hunt on the part of the school and the district and they will rue the day they ever began handling it in the way they have, which, to my mind, is not only illegal but a violation of just about every human right there is.
-
DR Jrand congrats on you excellent find at Goodwill!!
-
Up until now, I was willing to accept apologies from all concerned - depending on whatever lawyer I speak to says, that time may have come and gone due to the e-mail that was sent today, its header and its content.
-
Just went and looked at a possible theater to move Abner to in September - but I don't think it's big enough for our set, unfortunately. I will ascertain that for sure, though, because basically it's being offered for free.
-
On train, so it's almost impossible to type.
Concert was WONDERFUL, and sorry to hear this, BK.
More later!!
-
My project, which was put together this week, mostly yesterday, came off very well today and I now have one less thing to think about.
Jack said it would happen that way. It was written in the stars.

bk - very sorry to hear about the continuing tsuris.
If you believe that legal action might be on the horizon, you might want to consider very carefully what you post about it here on a public forum. That becomes part of the record and could affect possibilities, strategies, and outcomes more than you know.

Glad that DR elmore3003's final concert went well, and sorry that the whole venture is now finished.

"The Merry Widow" concert at Trinity was TOTALLY charming. I loved every bit of it, and I will eat up the webcast later on. And this had crazy rehearsal challenges? Holy cow, it was wonderful. And DR Elmore needn't feel that he's too close to it to judge.
I has spoken.
I checked my recordings, and I must have given away the Schwarzkopf some time ago, but I've got the Kirsten/Rounseville and the Della Casa/Reardon. But you know what? Right now I just want to savor the Trinity one. And if I can get some computer software to, um, archive at least the audio for educational purposes, I will do that as well.
DR Elmore: I don't have a score and meant to ask what they performed from. I thought I saw what looked like a Dover edition in someone's (Rob Berman's?) hands. Is there any distinction between editions? I don't know what's out there.

I thought you were asking about recordings! I'm sorry. Yes, we were using the Dover reprint of the 1907 Chappell score from London and Broadway. There are a couple of up-to-date ones in English, one from Hal Leonard with a good Sheldon Harnick translation for City Opera and couple of British ones. These scores, like the Reardon-Della Casa recording, have good English translations that are more faithful to the naughtiness of the original German libretto. The 1907 score, which is the basis for the recordings by Kitty Carlisle and the Kirsten-Rounseville, is awfully bowdlerized - sometimes the meanings are deliberately obscured - and sometimes assigns the music to different characters.
The two note-for-note complete recordings are these, the Stolz with Gueden n 2 CDs, and the John Eliot Gardiner, which fits it all on one.
-
Good evening !
-
Watching Citizen Kane on TCM. Not sure I'll be awake for the whole thing so I'm recording it.

Chas, making an audio recording from a video is exceedingly easy...for those in the know.

This was one of those perfect days to be in the city, the kind you often get in spring and fall -- sunny, warm enough but brisk, totally comfortable. I got down there with some time to spare so walked around the Battery, which was great. Afterwards, I walked north quite a ways before finally taking the subway the rest of the way to Grand Central. This, in addition to a lovely concert, seeing DR Elmore, meeting his adopted son and the wonderful cast and other friends, made for one of those perfect days in the Apple.
BTW, One World Trade Center is impressive as all hell when seen in person. Photos never much did it for me, but even from a couple of blocks away ..... wow.
Speaking of which, I do have some photographic evidence. Not of the concert, however, sorry about that!
-
DR Elmore, I was talking about recordings, no problem there. What I also meant to ask, but didn't, was about the scores.
-
In further ketchuping, that is thrilling news about Capitol Records!
-
Larry, glad to hear (from Chas) that the last concert was a success.
-
Has anyone seen the new GODZILLA movie? If so I can't remember.

I was really happy Ben Davis showed up; he was supposed to be Danilo today, but he had to cancel. I'm looking forward to his KISS ME KATE performance coming up with John Wilson at the Proms. He's one of my favorite people. I was happy Joshie was there, because he's under the gun with BRIGADOON for the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, and I want it to go well for him.
As for the cast, I think Sara Jean can do no wrong at all. I adore her. Her voice is like a silver bell and her pitch is so good.
I wish there were a full English recording of the score, but there is a wonderful one of the French translation, and I'm quite fond of it. I had also forgotten that the Walberg recording in German is the complete score, too.
-
Agree re Sara Jean, but I was loving Meggie today, too. And Alexander Gemignani was a joy to behold.
-
I suspect this is the only "Merry widow" DR MBarnum would care for! It might get his nose out of the Dick and Jane stories.
-
good evening to all
had a hell of time signing on and posting
-
I got sidetracked from my usually morning hello after reading the notes.

Agree re Sara Jean, but I was loving Meggie today, too. And Alexander Gemignani was a joy to behold.
I do love Meggie. We giggle together too much at times, and we seem to bring out the naughtiness in each other. I had never met Alex before Tuesday. I had seen him in the dreadful John Doyle SWEENEY TODD, and he plays a mean trumpet. He's a smart performer and his performance just blossomed in two days. I was impressed. Very.

H.R. Pufntuf Intro
http://youtu.be/obxfuFrUTzg (http://youtu.be/obxfuFrUTzg)
I was surprised to learn there were only 17 episodes.
Billie Hayes was the best thing about this show looking back at it
-
Regarding the TOD. Do you mean shows like THUNDERBIRDS as in puppets, strictly for children, or just the shows we loved as children?
I can't think of a single show that had puppets that I liked & I have no memory of THUNDERBIRDS.
Possibly the only shows truly for children I loved were THE MICKY MOUSE CLUB & RIN TIN TIN.
I must not forget DAVY CROCKET though I'm sure adults were also watching this one. I loved Fess Parker as Davy
Looking at other responses, I agree with:
SUPERMAN
LONE RANGER
FURY
Was THE RIFLEMAN mentioned?
I mustn't forget THE LAWMAN though, as DR MBarnum knows, it was for Peter Brown that I loved this one.

Heavens to Murgatroyd!
Anyone notice how much Snagglepuss sounded like Burt Lahr? The above catchphrase was even uttered by Lahr
-
I went through life somehow never even knowing about THUNDERBIRDS, but I took a chance and bought the Blu-ray. Haven't watched yet, will do so soon.
-
I have mercifully repressed, forgotten, or rejected most of my childhood so I have next to no memory of TV in my childhood beyond Milton Berle, Ed Wynn, and Kukla, Fran and Ollie.

It is, quite simply a witch-hunt on the part of the school and the district and they will rue the day they ever began handling it in the way they have, which, to my mind, is not only illegal but a violation of just about every human right there is.
I hope you hunt them right back.
-
Four!
-
I think I'm going to watch The Merry Widow tonight. Not the new version, but the Jeanette MacDonald-Maurice Chevalier version.
-
Elmore, glad the concert went well.
-
Things have been crazy at work this week. Three of our six people have been out, and the work load has been heavier than usual.
Oh well, I'm out part of next week.
-
San Antonio's love of chain food continues unabated. An L&L Hawaiian Burger place opened this week. I went by for dinner and a sign was posted that they'd run out of food and would be closed at 5 p.m. for the near future. I guess I can wait for a ramen burger.
-
Has anyone heard Fun Home or Pierre and the Great Comet ...? Any thoughts?
-
Guess I've driven everyone away.
-
Not even one guest.
-
Gratuitous post 98.
-
Vixmom, wo bist du?
-
TCB, sind Sie da?
-
And that concludes my performance in German.
-
I have been very careful about making any knee-jerk posts or stuff in the notes - but anything I HAVE posted or written is all true, even though completely non-specific. And when I do write about it, which will be when whichever lawyer I speak to says it's okay, it will all be even-keeled and completely factual every step of the way.
-
Had a very good rehearsal and then a cup of soup and a grilled chili, cheese and onion hot dog.
-
Has anyone heard Fun Home or Pierre and the Great Comet ...? Any thoughts?
I've both heard and have both of these. Two very different listening experiences, but both very good...in my opinion.
-
BK:
I happened to hear today a cover of the Shermans' Stay Awake sung by Harry Connick Jr. Which made me think of a question you might want to ask Richard Sherman.
What was the strangest or weirdest cover version of one your songs?
-
Well, I must be off. I will do a little shopping and then go home. I'm going to a wedding on Saturday and I want to see if I can find a new shirt. We'll see.
Be back later.
-
Thanks for the links to the theme shows, Mike.

Lavar Burton is (and will) trying to relaunch his Emmy Award winning children series, "Reading Rainbow" through a KICKSTARTER campaign.
He was aiming for 1 million dollars and in one day he has raised almost 2.5 million dollars!! And there is 33 days to go!!!

Good news from DR BEN.
Vibes for MR BK in dealing with the witches.
-
Rehearsal was fine.....too much talking in the pit....but they need one night to communicate.
First act 90 minutes - second act 60 minutes. I will take that.
-
Vibes for your opening night, JRand.
-
Maurice and Jeanette have waltzed off into their black and white sunset. Now to find out which of those lyrics for the movie Rodgers and Hart wrote.
-
Good night, all.
-
Back from Kansas,,, the Vixter and I had a fine time
-
we were seated about 8 rows from the stage - the first song was The Wall (after which Vixter turned to me and said - OK we can go now- I'm satisfied!") but it was one great song after the other and ended of course with the final Encore song Carry On
Since the audience was mostly those who followed the band since the 70's and their offspring the crowd was well behaved but enthusiastic
a great night out!
-
Elmore I am glad to hear your final concert was a success and sorry to hear it was the final concert
-
Ben congratulations on a successful project started and completed
-
JRand breakaleg VIBES for the whole G/D cast and crew!
-
John G today I had to send a out an insurance check for a client to USAA in San Antonio - as I signed the cover letter I envisioned it somehow landing on your desk :)
-
Has ANYBODY heard from Dan? I am becoming quite concerned
-
SingDaw- how are you healing? Is all well?
-
Oh - at the concert as we were walking towards the venue from the parking lot the first people we saw were the son of cloe friends and his date
-
A local radio station was there with a roulette wheel - I spun and won two tickets to next Wednesday's sneak peek showing of the new Tom Cruise movie - and its at the theatre right down the block from my house!
-
A few more people spun and won nothing and then the friends son s spun and he also won 2 tickets to the movie (It was actually a choice between the tickets and a tshirt but we both picked the tickets) so we will be seeing him again next Wednesday
-
And the guy from work (who actually told me about the concert) and his fiancee were in the seats directly behind ours
-
It was fun night all around
-
SingDaw- how are you healing? Is all well?
Thanks for asking, DR Vixmom - I am not 100% yet, but well along the way. No more heavy lifting for 2 more weeks.

61 days 42 minutes... in case anyone was wondering..... (I'm looking at you Chas!)
-
Ok I have to be up in 6 hours good night!
-
Revised a few questions, added a few things, and I think I have enough for about an hour of chat and the rest of the time will be taken up with the musical performances.
-
Good news from DR BEN.
Vibes for MR BK in dealing with the witches.
Perhaps BK should consider doing a musical adaptation of THE CRUCIBLE.
-
132 days, 19 hours, 58 minutes
-
I have no idea if Vixmom and I are on the same page on this one.
-
That's what it is - The Crucible. There's already a wonderfully melodic opera of The Crucible by Robert Ward.
-
Break a leg vibes to the G/D company. I hope my understudy does a good job on the "Hourglass" number.
-
Page five? Really? Is everyone on vacation?

Certainly it's not the dog days of summer yet.

That's what it is - The Crucible. There's already a wonderfully melodic opera of The Crucible by Robert Ward.

Tonight, I went to Fred Meyer and got a new pair of shoes (with a $10 off coupon) and three, count em, THREE new shirts! The shirts were normally $48 but were on sale for only $19.99! That's about 60% off! Score!
-
When I got home, I got two, count 'em, TWO letters from my credit union saying that my account may have been compromised!
-
I don't know if the two letters mean that two separate incidents may have happened, or they just wanted to make sure that I got their letter. Either way, I just checked my account and everything looks okay, but I'll still be getting a new bank card...again!
-
This just happened a few months ago. Talk about a hassle. I probably won't get the new card(s) until next week, but at least all my monthlies are going through in the next few days, so those will be done before I have to change everything...again. :P
