Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a $2.98 secret, and now it is time for you to post until the $2.98 cows come home.

Good morning, all! I could not get to sleep last night and as a consequence, I am very groggy at the moment. I remember that once I did fall slpee, I had fascinting dreams, none of which I now remember.

I am off to Toyland, my first trip in three weeks. I know that the Man from Philadelpha has been up to something, but I have no idea of the condition of the office, whether my colleague Chris has fonshed the work that brought him into town, or if my possessions are where they were when I last was there. I've got several things I want to finish in the next month so I can move my possessions out of there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  DR vixmom, good vibes for your x-ray results!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning, all.
Well, this was not the world's greatest sleep, either.  First, I really should have turned the a/c on yesterday.  I didn't, because we're getting the cool-down tomorrow, too -- in fact, today should be a little cooler -- and since it had only been in the low 80s, I thought I could delay its "opening" till the next warm spell.  Well, it was really too muggy for that, and I tossed and turned.  Mostly turned.
Also, I'd started playing around with the new Blu-ray of THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, and fallen dead asleep on the couch in front of it for longer than I'd thought at the time.  Once up from that, it was really late, which is why I was here in the middle of the night after the notes went up.
So, I don't know what all of this verbiage tells us, except...
More coffee!
I loved the "Hollywood 28, California" touch.  Perfect.  And I recognized my own 90028 instantly.
Yes, it was zones.  I've always remembered ours as "Fort Lauderdale 12, Florida" prior to ca-1962 or thereabouts when the zipcode system was implemented by expanding the existing zone numbers to five digits.  Welcome, 33312.  Oy!  Amost as sad as looking back at the names of telephone "exchanges".
And everyone's phone numbers are ten digits now.  Nowadays no one even thinks about saying a phone number without including the area code.
At least we already knew our area codes.  The only disastrous upshot of the change to dialing the whole number was right here in Connecticut where we are (I think) the only place in the country where you never know whether you need to dial with or without the "1" up front.  We dial a lot of numbers twice here in the Nutmeg/Constitution State.  See, our nicknames even reflect being conflicted over which thing to use.
We are supposed to get rain tonight and all day tomorrow. If it's a heavy downpour, I will stay home tomorrow and avoid traveling to Toyland. I cannot maneuver my shopping bag, cane, and an umbrella happily.
If I do not go tomorrow, I'll go on Saturday. I'm looking for some Gershwin music, and I would really like to finish scanning Act One of JUBILEE.
Watched another documentary on the persecution and prosecution of whistleblowers - really good because it was made by good filmmakers and concentrated on specific cases and wasn't long.  For a president who ran on the platform of government transparency, he has proven to do anything but that - in fact, as it's stated in this film, his administration has done more to go after these people than all the other administrations put together.  That's some transparency.  I don't think they will rest until every freedom the constitution guarantees the American people has been stripped away completely in the name of security.  This has truly taken Orwell's most famous work of fiction and turned it into sad fact.
I was thinking about possibly making  this.....
This traditional recipe for Hungarian Chocolate Mousse Cake - Sutemeny Rigo Jancsi - has a delightful history.
Rigo Jancsi was a famous Hungarian gypsy violinist. In 1896 while in Paris, Jancsi played for Prince Josef and Princess Klara. Fascinated by his swarthy good looks, she fell in love. Klara left her husband and children to follow Jancsi who divorced his wife. The affair didn't last but the cake Rigo created with a confectioner in Klara's honor did - Sutemeny Rigo Jancsi. It remains a favorite Hungarian sweet.
Prep Time: 45 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour
Yield: 8 servings Chocolate Mousse Cake
Ingredients:
    Sponge Cake:
    3 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled to lukewarm
    3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
    1/4 cup plus 1/4 cup sugar
    4 eggs, separated
    Pinch salt
    1/2 cup all-purpose flour
    Filling:
    1 1/2 cups heavy cream
    10 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
    4 tablespoons dark rum
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    Glaze:
    7 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
    2 tablespoons unsalted butter
    2 tablespoons light corn syrup
    1 teaspoon vanilla
What an evening! I came home to get ready to go to the Xs game and when I came in the door I was hit with a very chemical smell, sort of like lighter fluid. I looked and couldn't figure out what it was. I opened some windows then went over to have my neighbor come in and see if she could smell it. She could, so we decided I should call someone to check it out.
 Not knowing who to call, I called the nonemergency number at the police department and asked what to do. The dispatcher said she'd send the fire department. I expected a couple firemen and maybe a truck. All of a sudden there were two trucks lights flashing and sirens blaring and an assistant chief in a blazer with lights a flashing. Sheesh!
 So, they came in in all their gear, lol. I told them it didn't smell like gas....anyway, they went around the house with sensors. It registered in the furnace room but they couldn't tell for what. It wasn't flammable, wasn't carbon dioxide but was something.
 So I called the furnace people. I had to pay after hours prices for a guy to come with another sensor, take apart the air conditioner, check all the levels on the refrigerant and tell me that there was nothing wrong and nothing leaking. So....I have no idea what it was and neither does anyone else. I have windows open and hope it doesn't come back. The cats are fine and were when I came home....strange
Then, while the repairman was checking out the ac, I looked out the back window and saw a cat had something in it's mouth in my back yard....then I realized it was baby bunnies!!! NO!!!!! I went out and chased the cat away. I didn't go near the babies. I know at least one was dead, maybe two, but I think maybe a couple were ok. Mom and Dad rabbit are always around and I saw them later. I figured it was better to let them get the babies than for me to take them in. I'll check tomorrow. I also saw the Cooper's hawk directly overhead where the bunnies were on the ground. I don't know if the hawk got them. What a strange evening
oh just incase any one is interested  this is how you make the cake
Preparation:
    For the cake: Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line a jellyroll pan with parchment paper. In a large bowl, cream 3/4 cup butter with 1/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add cooled melted chocolate and beat in egg yolks one at a time.
    In a medium bowl, beat egg whites and pinch salt until whites cling to the beater. Add remaining 1/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
    Lighten the chocolate mixture by stirring in 1/3 of the whites. Then, carefully, fold in the remaining whites. Sprinkle the flour over the batter and, carefully, fold it in without decreasing the volume.
    Pour into prepared pan and bake 12-15 minutes, or until cake starts to pull away from the sides. Do not overbake. Cool a few minutes on a wire rack and then invert onto the rack. Remove parchment paper and let cool completely.
    For the filling: Meanwhile, Place 10 ounces chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Bring the cream to a boil in the microwave or on the stovetop and pour over chocolate. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand 10 minutes. Add rum and vanilla and stir until smooth. Refrigerate 1 hour. When cold, whip the filling until volume has doubled.
    Assembly: Cut the cake in half and place one half on a rack. Spread the filling over the cake and top with the remaining cake half. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
    For the glaze: Meanwhile, Place 7 ounces chocolate, butter and corn syrup in a microwaveable bowl. Heat on full power 1 minute. Add vanilla and stir until completely melted and smooth. Let cool 10 minutes.
    Set the rack holding the cake over a pan to catch drips. Holding the glaze 2 inches above the cake, pour the glaze evenly, using a spatula to cover the sides, if necessary. Refrigerate 20 minutes or until glaze is set.
    This cake is very rich. Cut into 5 by 7 rows for a total of 35 small squares. Refrigerate leftovers.
Personally, I think the cats were doing their nails while you were out. They just hid all the evidence just before you got home.
DR Cillaliz -I think we need photos of the firemen to fully assess the situation.        8)
LOL, one of them was quite handsome, he walked through the house and commented on some photos etc.  They were all very pleasant. Had no clue what was going on.  They got a reading of some sort of something, but didn't know what it was
Oh, I think it's pretty gross. One of those kitschy dated recipes from the 50s.
I agree...
they probably would be too warm with all their firefighting gear on  though so it would only be kind to allow them to remove a few of the heavier articles...
their boots, coats, shirts....
Oh they had tanks on their backs, masks the whole 9 yards, I sort of laughed and said, really, you don't need all that
do any of your neighbors have pools they may have  just opened?  Maybe your furnace sucked in chlorine fumes?
No, only one pool in the neighborhood and that's a ways away.
I'm more upset about the cat outside that killed the baby bunnies,  I love baby bunnies.  I think that maybe one or two of the four may have survived when I chased the cat away.   I'm hoping mom and dad rabbit get them to a safe place.
The assistant chief gave me his number and said they could come back if I needed them to. He said they have better sensors that could maybe tell what it is.  He wasn't the one that walked through the house with me.  We'll see if the smell comes back.  I'm going to pour more water down the drain tonight and see if that helps.  Actually I should go check and see if it still smells bad down the basement.
Me too.  My guess is it was from the drain.   I poured a bunch more water down the drain tonight and I'm leaving he AC off and will leave my bedroom window open a little.   I just went downstairs and I didn't think it smelled that bad in there.
The fireman with the sensor did tell me the reading he was getting wasn't a high reading, but he was picking up something. He also said it wasn't carbon monoxide or flammable gas. And it isn't the AC, so I'm guessing it had to be the drain
I also got a kick out of Ricky.  I put the cats in my bedroom upstairs so they wouldn't freak out or get outside.   Every time I went upstairs, Boo was by the door wanting out....Callie was on the dresser looking out the window....Ricky.....he was under the bed.  He came out as soon as I called him but I just thought, what a chicken, lol
Thanks for this, Vixmom...I was wondering how it all went together.
