Well, you've read the notes, the notes were affordable and had dentures, and now it is time for you to post until the affordable cows come home.

The French title of All That Jazz which translate  to "Let The Show Begin" which is a play on the line of dialogue "It's showtime folks!"

I prefer the French title to the English title.

I went to see All That Jazz cold because I thought it was the film version of Chicago

Good morning!  I slept through the night without a problem and no strong smell this morning.  I just turned on the AC to test it.  I think the problem was something coming from the drain.  I poured more water down it last night and that seems to have solved the problem.  I'll leave the ac off all day today and will see how it is when I come home from work

I know I saw SORCERER in Westwood, but have never trusted my memory on where it played.  Was it the AVCO?

I had the opposite reaction of BK's when it opened because I hadn't yet seen WAGES OF FEAR, so I was quite taken with the proceedings.  I even liked the music, bought the LP (still have it), played it quite a bit, and returned to the movie a couple of times.  However, even a couple of close friends (who had loved Friedkin's work up to then -- as had I -- and who were predisposed to enjoying a new Friedkin thriller -- as was I -- were less than thrilled with it, so I was kind of alone in my enthusiasm.

Never crossed paths with it after that, till about five years ago when I bought the DVD.  As poor as that DVD was, I liked it all over again, as did a couple of friends who watched with me.  They're younger than me and had never heard of it, but they loved Scheider so it was quite the discovery for them.  Even then, I felt it had nicely ripened, so I'm glad to hear BK's take on that now.

Thursday morning greetings!  The humidity has dropped and it's cooled off greatly here in SW Ohio.  Nice to have the windows open again.  Later this morning we're expecting DN Lauren to deliver some garage sale stuff from her Mom and to look through some stuff we're getting rid of.  Tomorrow her fiance Jim and a friend will be here with a truck to haul away whatever she selects.

TOD:

I always loved Scheider and felt he brought an interesting presence to everything, even if a movie itself was less than wonderful overall.  Several favorites are of course some of the big name ones, and all from the great wonderful 1970s films, but hey.  What are you gonna do.  In chronological order...

KLUTE
THE FRENCH CONNECTION
THE SEVEN-UPS
JAWS
MARATHON MAN
SORCERER
ALL THAT JAZZ

Boy, you couldn't beat that line-up of movies with a stick.

I know a number of people who grew to love him from SEA QUEST, but I believe I saw only a couple of episodes of that.

I did background work in a Roy Scheider/Meryl Streep movie in 1981. It's not very good (the movie) but you can clearly see me sitting on the aisle during the scene filmed in the "auction hall". The movie was

Still of the Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Still_of_the_Night_%28film%29)

That particular scene was filmed at

International House (http://www.ihouse-nyc.org/s/707/start.aspx) on the campus of Columbia University.

One of the things I most remember about the movie is that, without the lifts in his shoes, Mr. Scheider is not much taller than me and I'm just 5'3"!

When we were filming THE DOORWAY in Ireland in 1999, Roy told me about a "shocking" incident that occurred during the making of SORCERER.  However, since it's a story about a still living person, it's probably best told in person.

Ben, I well remember going to Still of the Night, but didn't recall enough about the movie to include it.  I'll have to get a copy and watch that again sometime.

(And since I like to try to remember these things, I seem to think I saw it at the El Rey.)

DR Cillaliz, your visit from the fire department reminded me of the time the heating element in our oven ignited while I was pre-heating it for dinner.  We had a ladder truck, a pumper, and a couple of administrative vehicles here and one of the firefighters said, "Wow, I've never seen an oven do that!"  No fire, no damage, no home-cooked dinner that night.

I hope all is well at your house...

I've enjoyed two illustrious appearances in crowd scenes, for neither of which the slightest evidence exists:

1.  We had just recently moved to Fort Lauderdale when they opened the then-new winter home stadium for the NY Yankees.  My parents heard that there was a movie (Safe at Home) being filmed there and whoever showed up could sit in the bleachers and be part of the crowd scene.  So we went, and I do remember seeing William Frawley out on the field, and being told when to cheer, etc.  As I recall, it was a distant shot and no one was identifiable.

2.  In L.A. I was handed a flyer inviting people to show up at MGM in Culver City for a crowd scene.  It turned out to be for the 1976 King Kong.  I think it was a crowd reaction to Kong on the World Trade Center!

Whew!  What a career!  I think I need to take a rest.

I remember seeing that movie in Burlington Vermont while killing time before a bus would take me back to Montreal. Not the best way to see a movie. Chose a movie before the bus leaves.

DR Ben:

That's so cool who were in the Movie, STILL OF THE NIGHT!

I will try to get it at the library and watch for you in the auction Scene!

I don't know that it was ever officially released on DVD. Amazon lists this on their site:

DVD-R Note: This product is manufactured on demand when ordered from Amazon.com

People are selling VHS copies on Amazon and eBay but I doubt your library will have it. If you do get a copy, don't blink, or you'll miss me. The do a shot up the aisle (I think Roy S. is walking up the aisle) and the camera makes a quick pass at me. If you know what I look like you will recognize me.

That one week of filming made me realize how UN-GLAMOROUS background/extra work was. I was non-union at the time and we got paid a grand total of $50 a day and lunch. It was a mix of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and non-SAG extras. That scene took five full days to film and then I think there were problems with the movie because the movie was filmed in the early spring of 1981 (I remember walking every morning from 92nd Street and West End Avenue up to 122nd Street and Riverside Drive in the chilly spring air). The movie wasn't released until November of 1982.

Wow, DR Cillaliz! You had a night that DR MBarnum will regret missing for years to come.

I hope the bunnies are all right. When my brothers and I were small we had pet chickens and bunnies at Easter for several years. My memory is that the chickens all ended up on an Appalachian farm, and we probably had them for dinner on a trip to my grandmother's. God knows what became of the rabbits. For years they were in a cage at the back of our garage.  That's something I hadn't thought about for 50 years.

In the Fall of 1977, Sylvester Stallone was in Washington DC shooting "F.I.S.T."   A call went out to all military in the area that they were looking for male extras for a scene outside the Senate Office Building.  They wanted guys in jeans, overhauls, working clothes, etc.

I showed up and was given general directions about finding a truck upon which I would climb and await further instructions.  I picked a big red trailer with a white-topped cab.  Stallone ran out of the Senate building, down the steps, jumped up on a taxi and turned toward the cameras.  I was directly behind him on that truck.  This still is from the movie...and I am the man behind his right upraised fist (it looks like he might just be chucking me under my chin).   I still have that shirt.

Greetings, all,

BK, I loved seeing your song with Richard Sherman, and I do so love the kazoo break in the middle. It sounds like you had quite a wonderful audience that night. I'm sorry I couldn't be there. I enjoyed the other vids too, which I saw on the book of face the other day.

I am looking forward to another year of doing the live voice-overs for the Actors Fund Benefit Showing of the Tony Awards this Sunday at the Skirball Center. I think this is my third or fourth year on the gig. What makes me especially happy this year is that the evening will honor the great Barbara Cook, who I met years ago at Reno Sweeney's in NYC. I studied voice with a contemporary of Barbara's in NY, Laura Thomas. Laura and Barbara studied a very specific technique with the same man, and I was taught n the same manner. When I met Ms. Cook, she told me she still went to Laura for lessons from time to time. I feel a little connection there and I look forward to seeing Ms. Cook again on Sunday.

I remember the first film I saw Roy Scheider in, which was Marathon Man.

At least there was a reason for all the commotion.  It is embarrassing to make a non emergency call have have sirens announced their arrival-I know from experience-lol

Tuesday we had a very large plant delivery and for the last couple of days a small crew has been working hard to plant them.  We had to replace many plants that didn't survive the extreme cold this winter, other areas needed filling in, and one area just didn't like what was planted there.

We are using different people this time, except for the plant designer, and this crew is far superior when it comes to planting.

The plant designer brought us this crew.  She said the landscaper who took credit for her work here was going to write a retraction to the paper.  We have yet to see it.

When we were filming THE DOORWAY in Ireland in 1999, Roy told me about a "shocking" incident that occurred during the making of SORCERER.  However, since it's a story about a still living person, it's probably best told in person.

Druxy, what about PMs?

It's Thurs(Fri)day!

For work purposes, that is....it's my last workday of the week.

Good news:  My intermediate boss (deputy director of the agency who is between my actual boss and my current boss -- Agency Assistant Director) informed me last night that I am returning to my regular channel next week.  A temp is being hired to cover the desk I've covered the past month.  Hooray, huzzah, hip-hip-yap-hank!

Congrats, Ron!

I calibrated my new television last night...boy, am I glad I did. Superior picture quality, now! Both for new and old stuff.

It was easy to do, once I found instructions on-line on how to set each of the 12 gazillion settings, written up by a guy who purchased the same/similar tv.

I need to do that with my TV.  The DVD for "The Incredibles" has a TV calibration segment, but it never seems to work the way it seems like it's supposed to, no matter what I try to change during the calibrating.  I never thought to search on-line for instructions.  I'll definitely make a note for myself to do this. :)

Back from the concert in the park. We sang, miked, from a pavillion, while people sat on benches or picnicked on the lawn. It was sponsored by the local classical radio station; there were probably about 500 people there. My solos went well, and I got all my foreign words correctly. I am a bit exhausted from the stress, so I am heading to bed.

Good news from DR RLP and DR SINGDAW!

Thanks to everyone for the wonderful vibes for my G/D show....they worked.  We couldn't have asked for a better audience....and everyone was on the money onstage as well.

People were clamoring at the box office after the show to get tickets for other nights, so I opened up and sold them.....I sold about 20 more tickets....so I think they liked it.

One lady wanted to buy season tickets.....and I told her she could and I would give her a price break since she had paid full price for her G/D tickets.....but she couldn't talk her husband into doing it.....

Finished with my viewing.  I finished Sorcerer, then had a Nicholas Cage triple bill - wasn't intentional but that's what kept coming up on Netflix after the first one.  All three of these films were huge box-office disasters - I mean not even a million bucks at the box-office.  How does anyone hire him after three in a row like that.  Two were listed as 2013 releases, but the first of those was actually made in 2011 and held back, probably because they knew it was a stinker.

It is ironic that G/D opened tonight.  A dear friend of mine died Tuesday evening.  He was one of the finest actors who I was ever lucky enough to share a stage. One of the roles he is best remembered for in Tacoma was Arvide in G/D.  One friend, on hearing of his passing, posted the words to "More I Can Not Wish You."  It seemed a fitting tribute.
