Well, you've read the notes, the notes lit up the sky, and now it is time for you to post until the lit up cows come home.

Computer animation in 1983/84 wasn't what it is now. So when they filmed The Natural (which I haven't seen), for the baseball stadium scenes they used a mix of live extras with cutouts.
My landlady acquired some of those cutouts, which she proudly displays on July 4th.    :)

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

or as Vixdad says:

May your celebration of the Treacherous and Childish Ingrate Colonial Mutiny against Kind and Benevolent British Rule be safe and enjoyable, and may a skyrocket with a battlefield grade warhead of the type so beloved of the celebrating New Yorker not crash into your roof and burn down your house.

Good morning, all! I slept late.

I've got to begin the laundry. I just turned over my mattress, since that hasn't happened since I bought it ten months ago, and I'll start the laundry within the next 15 minutes.

I have few plans for today. I may listen to DEAREST ENEMY, MUSIC MAN, or TAKE ME ALONG for the fourth, and I'll tidy up. I'm meeting Bruce Pomahac at 5:00, so I'll leave here around 4.

TOD:
Anne Caldwell, one of the best; I like her lyrics for Victor Herbert and Jerome Kern very much. especially "Raggedy Ann," "Once In A Blue Moon," and  "Bagdad";  many of her lyrics were credited to her alcoholic husband James O'Dea.
Dorothy Donnelly, Rida Johnson had moments for Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg, but the quality runs from excellent to really lousy
Dorothy Fields
Carolyn Leigh

Good morning, all.

According to the local rag, last night's power outage affected only some 500 people in Danbury, so this was a rare instance of my being part of a small outage.  It was out for over ten hours, and the generator performed like a champ.  Now I just have to go around and reset clocks, since they lose it in the 10-15 seconds before the generator kicks in.

Weather forecasts for today have been all over the place.  Yesterday it was looking like any remaining rain would clear up during the day.  Now it looks like there could still be showers this evening.

Vixmom, I hope Vixdad's Hallmark greeting does its job and Macy's doesn't burn your house down!      :)

I repeat VIXDAD's sentiments on this July 4th!

Tonight my dog and I will sit on the front porch and watch the fireworks from the town park.  Because of the trees we can only see the HIGHEST ones, but they are very nice.

We washed the cars this morning. They were very dirty after that haboob and little bit of rain last night.

Today sometime I will watch 1776. That will take a good part of the afternoon, since it is so long.

I will see if Wae-Ling wants to take the black light over to the church to look for scorpions and then watch the fireworks from there. It's a little more open so we can see them a little better.

I guess it doesn't work when it is written down.

I verbally asked six different people and they all answered "no".

So my suggestion is ask people today

"Today we are celebrating our Independence Day from England. Does England have July 4th?"

And see how many people say no.

LOL Mike.

I am hoping for another storm tonight. That would keep the neighbors from lighting their dangerous fireworks. Someone across the alley lights those ones that fly up into the air and explode. A bad thing as dry as it is.

There are too many people in this building who need a life. My neighbor, who's generally pretty normal. has got herself involved with a fight on the fifth floor, rumors are flying mostly about someone having cancer, she's fighting with her husband who's friends with one of the fifth floor folk whose wife has been going through cancer treatments, and she's trying to drag me into it with "who the fuck said what" - ridiculous!

I try.  Since I've quit traveling it's been easier to say yes to things like the piccolo band. Once you start saying yes people ask you more often.  And I decided a while back I'm going to do whatever I want to do and just not worry about it.  My sister is at the lake and is now realizing how much mom and dad have changed.  She and her husband are doing a lot of the work I normally do.  It's nice to not feel guilty for not being there.

We went into town and watched a little of the parade from inside of a restaurant.  If Keith hadn't ordered iced tea we would have left once we saw the menu.  They opened early and had a special breakfast, nothing that I wanted.  We figured since it was 11:00, only half an hour before their normal time we could get the eggplant sandwich we usually order.  Nope.  Instead I had we had lousy Denver omelettes without the ham.  Basically it was a very well done egg crepe filled with tons of cheese and a wee bit of veggies. :P

My son usually comes over on Fridays. It used to be for breakfast, then it turned into lunch. Last week he came at 4 p.m.

We had a really big expense hit us this week, so I decided that rather than spend $30 going for lunch, we'd just finish up the pork loin sandwiches. I boiled up the potatoes (since DR Sandra hadn't needed them for mashed potatoes after her wisdom tooth extraction and they need to be used) and made some potato salad. I found -- (don't read this part, John) -- a cake mix and tub of frosting, -- (OK - you can read again, John) -- and sent my DH to the store for corn on the cob and ice cream.

I really don't want to go to the partay, but I said I would and I guess I'll mosey on over there around four-fifteen, hang out for a little bit and make my exit.  I'm not sure I want to eat there - the food is never what I enjoy and I just eat to eat, so I'd rather go have something light but fun elsewhere, I think, or if there's a market open I could just get something to cook.

Computer animation in 1983/84 wasn't what it is now. So when they filmed The Natural (which I haven't seen), for the baseball stadium scenes they used a mix of live extras with cutouts.
My landlady acquired some of those cutouts, which she proudly displays on July 4th.    :)

that is cool  and  you live in a most beautiful house!

Good for your generator.  I wish we had installed one.

I know you spend most of your time with the precious Wae-Ling, however, for fireworks wouldn't her sister also want to go?

Cilla, was a nomination of some sort needed to obtain your new appointment? Or do the Powers That Be just know you already?

I had a call from the administrator of the Commission who asked me if I would agree to be nominated.  She said there were other nominees as well but I don't know who they were

You always have so much fun, Cillaliz.

What's in a Denver omelet?

I found this description that pretty much fits what we had.  Ours was served with home fries.

A Denver omelette, also known as a Western omelette, is an omelette filled with diced ham, onions, and green bell peppers, though there are many variations on fillings. Often served in the midwestern United States and sometimes has a topping of cheese and a side dish of hashbrowns or fried potatoes

DR vixmom--thanks for the laugh. It reminded me of the time I arrived at JFK airport for my flight home.  My flight was at about 10 am, or so I thought.  I went through security and I thought at the time that the agent looked at my ticket kind of funny.  Anyway, I was puzzled that my flight wasn't listed on the tv screens and went to the counter.  The agent informed me that my flight was at 10 pm.   Luckily, she took mercy and let me go standby on the next flight.

You always have so much fun, Cillaliz.

More than not feeling guilty, it is good you didn't go.  Your sister needed to know the situation.

Yeah, she has issues when it comes to my mom.  I'm hoping this will give her a chance to work through them while she still can

If she does maybe it will help her be kinder to you.

Right now she's in a nice to me phase, I'm sure it will end soon

Vibes it doesn't end and knowing how much work you do makes her appreciate you more.

LOL  I quit kidding myself about that a long time ago.  I don't care if she appreciates me, it isn't about that.

I've not had a cake pop so I looked up a recipe for them.  I thought maybe there was a baking pan for them.  The recipe I read looks tasty (all from scratch) but a bit of work to assemble the pops.  This is something I would have found fun to make when the boys were young but not today.

The cats are doing better today.  I've been here most of the day, cleaning up things, taking care of the cats and just relaxing.   Most of the issues have resolved themselves, but I'm still a bit concerned it will all come back if I'm not home when the fireworks start.

So I better go change clothes and head over to Paul's house for awhile.

Such a colorful life!

Our state legislature, in its wisdom, made fireworks legal to buy a few years ago. The cities all banned lighting them. Last year the state legislature passed a law forbidding cities from banning them the first week in July and the week of New Years.

Computer animation in 1983/84 wasn't what it is now. So when they filmed The Natural (which I haven't seen), for the baseball stadium scenes they used a mix of live extras with cutouts.
My landlady acquired some of those cutouts, which she proudly displays on July 4th.    :)

That's looks great, Sing!  Star Wars (in 1977) did the same thing, and for a movie with such special special effects, they really do look obvious:

Sounds great to me.

Fireworks are legal in South Dakota and Nebraska but not here.  Since we're on the corner of Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska, there are fireworks everywhere and they just don't stop. Boo is scared but does ok with an occasional hug.  Ricky is scared and was over eating, but a brushing calmed him down...Callie is just curled up in her bed, can't tell if it bothers her or not

I don't know if I disappoint you with this, but I have used a cake mix before. I actually find making the cake from scratch a little easier, but I think it's because I understand what you do when you do it from scratch rather than relying on the cake mix to do it. But I do like some cake mixes, especially strawberry.

Make my pie. Cleaned the bird's cage. Loaded the dish washer. And am roasting a pumpkin. I want a nap. But I can't do until the pumpkin roasts. Another hour.

Where do you find a pumpkin at this time of year?

I told you I hadn't cleaned. It was left over from last fall, but it was still whole. No bruises, no blemishes. And it was good.

Well, the closest fireworks we could see were disappointing, and it was too bright from all the city lights for any scorpions to be out. Also, we were spooked being over there, because someone has dumped several vehicles in the parking lot. One appeared between 4 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. I didn't know if someone might drive in to dump another one, and I learned not to get into altercations with people over there.

Evidently, there are some real fireworks going on around the area, because the noise hasn't stopped.  It's not horribly loud, just constant.
