Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a pick-up, and now it is time for you to post until the picked-up cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SHOAT!
-
First post after BK.
-
BK, I hope the thief didn't take your garage door opener!
-
Took a pill. Back to bed.
-
BK, I hope the thief didn't take your garage door opener!
Yikes! That would not be a good thing!! :o
-
The garage door opener is programmed into the mirror. I did have an old garage door opener but they left that.
-
Well, "The Tempest" last night went quite well...except for the one cue that I totally forgot about. I must admit (and I did) that I was distracted. ::) I had my Kindle with me and wasn't paying attention and I totally missed one sound cue. It will NEVER happen again...EVER!
-
I'm glad that the pick-up recording session went well, BK! Hopefully, it'll all get put together easily.
-

Restaurant Watches Old Surveillance And Shares Shocking Results On Craigslist (http://news.distractify.com/culture/craigslist-surveillance-restaurant/?v=1)
A busy NYC restaurant kept getting bad reviews for slow service, so they hired a firm to investigate. When they compared footage from 2004 to footage from 2014, they made some pretty startling discoveries. So shocking, in fact, that they ranted about it on Craigslist!
If you haven't read this, I highly recommend it.
BK...you've been ranting about this sort of thing for a long time. Now, there's PROOF! ;)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning.
-
DR Laura - the photos from your walk yesterday were really stunning!
-
Good morning.
-
bk, so sorry to hear about your break-in. That is so unnerving. Glad it wasn't worse.
-
Oops. Sorry, DR John G.! ;D
-
So interesting about the recording session. I love reading all the nitty gritty. And all of that could have been avoided had they listened to you, bk, and used your players in the first place.
Will you institute a deak-breaker rule in the future that you get to choose the session players, no matter what? It must be frustrating to have to go through all this avoidable extra mixing work.
-
DR Cillaliz - so glad that you had a good time at the show. Thanks for posting the photo and the review, so we could feel like we were there!
-
Glad, also, that DR FJL had a good time and safe travels with Fiddler.
-
My orchestral concert was great! We were worried about traffic and closed streets, since Minneapolis is hosting the baseball All-Star games this weekend, but there was nary a sight of any of those problems.
We started with some Strauss and Lehár, then segued into an absolutely stunning rendition of Chopin's First Piano Concerto. At the final note, the audience erupted into an almost instant standing ovation (well deserved), cheering, and wild applause, which lasted for a good five minutes. Natasha Paremski was the soloist, and I am sure you will be hearing more from her in the future. She had just played the Rachmaninoff Third Piano Concerto two nights prior - the one featured in the movie Shine.
-
Good Morning!
-
Time to get ready for church. Gotta sing for the people.
-
And to look for my gloves, for the impending arrival of the summer Polar Vortex.
-
Oh - one more thing. I noticed in the program than in a couple of days, there's a Broadway program with the orchestra, featuring Debbie Gravitte, Doug LaBrecque, and Rachel York.
-
Thanks, singdaw.
-
BK, I'm glad they didn't break a window to get in. Our car was broken into, and they broke out a window, which really made a mess. It was expensive to fix, too.
-
Sorry about your car BK. Thankfully they didn't smash windows or damage the car or get anything good in the car. :(
-
I guess DR Laura and I had the same thought.
-
Good morning, all, from the comfort of home and recliner.
-
Sorry to hear about the break-in, but glad to hear there was no damage and, of course, no horrible loss. But I send vibes that, for the quarters, we will hear of the perp's unfortunate encounter at his next job with a pit bull who got up on the wrong side of bed.
-
Glad you are home, DR ChasSmith, safe and....
Well - safe, at any rate. :)
-

For those of you familiar with New York hotels, the Milford Plaza no longer exists. It's been upgraded and renovated and turned into
Row (http://rownyc.com/)
as in "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" gently up 8th Avenue (8th Avenue is a one-way street going uptown)
It looks like a higher end place than the old Milford Plaza (AKA Mildew Plaza)

Good morning, all! I went back t bed for an hour, but i am on my first cup of coffee and organizing my thoughts for the day. Haydn's Stabat Mater is this morning's Sunday selection.
I will hopefully begin the laundry soon; there isn't much, but i'd like to get it out of the way. While that's running, I hope to take apart another section of the apartment, clean, discard, and reassemble.
Last night, I watched the first CD of the blu-ray edition of the 1995 BBC Pride and Prejudice. which looks quite wonderful. I will finish it this afternoon.
Sorry to hear about the breakin, BK. I'm glad the session went well.
-
Looking forward to The World Goes Round.

-
Sorry to hear about the break in.
-
Laura, beautiful pics, as always.
-
I would love that remote little cottage in Scotland.
-
I was supposed to work yesterday but at the last minute it got cancelled.
I was going to go to Trader Joe's early to avoid the crowds but the chilled and freezer units were not working so they had no, literally, chilled goods (milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, etc) and no frozen goods (frozen veggies, prepared frozen dinners etc.) I didn't need bread or boxed milk or other non-perishables so I went home and went back to bed.
I went early today and the store was back to normal so I shopped and then came home and we had breakfast.
-
Friday evening we watched an odd 1949 Doris Day movie
It's a Great Feeling (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_a_Great_Feeling)
Not bad, but not a stand out in the Doris Day collection.
Yesterday afternoon we watched
Starlift (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starlift)
It's a Warner's Brothers version of Stage Door or Hollywood Canteen. Fun stuff.
Last night we re-watched The Harvey Girls. It was a fun 2 day movie marathon.
-
We watched a film called BAD WORDS last night, directed by and starring Jason Bateman.
The film has its problems, but what we really enjoyed was the fact that much of it was filmed all over the Sportsman's Lodge where we stayed when we were in Los Angeles last December.

DR George, I loved this! What is it with all the damned food photos? I have one FB friend who posts nothing but photos of his vegan meals, at least two a day. WTF? What is the point of a photo of a plate of food? Uneaten or half-eaten? Really?
I have another friend who posts nothing but photos of himself scowling, looking foolish, looking smug, looking moronic, looking elated, occasionally in some activity, and occasionally half-dressed; NOTE: put your shirt back on (actors, oy!). What looked good 20 years ago may not today.

Shocking break-in news from MR BK.... BUT great news about the recording session.
I like DR LAURA's blog photos and DR CILLA LIZ's photo AND the review of the Hough show were much appreciated!
All kinds of things yesterday on HHW.
We had a good day at WOW with a total of almost $700. We may be open one more week, or one more day....we shall see what the landlord says. He suddenly thinks that he needs to rent our SPACE NOW....even though he only has about a 30% occupancy in the whole mall....
-
I also saw STEEL MAGNOLIAS from the audience last night.....some difficulty with the sound that I hope can be resolved.....there is kind of a battle of wills going on between the Tech Director and the show Director....I am trying to work with everyone....but I don't think it will ever be more than satisfactory.

James Cleverton, my leading man on DEAREST ENEMY, is playing the White rabbit in a Holland Park outdoors opera production of ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
-
Jack I didn't realize that when you said you were retiring from the store that the store was closing. I am sorry to hear this is your sister reopening in a different location?
-
Laura I did love your pictures yesterday
-
Cilla I am glad you had a good birthday , the dance show sounds like the perfect ending to the day

Sunday afternoon greetings! Oh, dear, it appears that I didn't log off yesterday when we left for the wedding. I may have looked like I was sitting here like so much fish, but I actually was having a grand time. Here we are, well into the reception after almost 8 hours. We look a little wilted because we were tired and it was pretty warm inside the reception venue.

Skip's (and Ellen's and Tom's) show HERRINGBONE in Philly got a terrific review from Toby Zinman, the critic for the Inquirer, which seems to be the main paper for theater there.
Review: HERRINGBONE
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillystage/266924652.html
POSTED: SUNDAY, JULY 13, 2014, 9:32 AM
By Toby Zinman
For the Inquirer
Flashpoint Theatre does it again: the second show of their summer
season (following their opener, Miz Martha) is a knockout, with Ben
Dibble giving a performance of stunning virtuosity. Herringbone is a
strange and compelling musical by anybody's standards.
(more at the link above)

In addition to walking Bride Lauren down the aisle, Richard was also tapped for the father-daughter dance.

While Lauren expected a staid dance like in the previous photo, Uncle Richard surprised her with some twirls:

Yes, DR Vixmom, Richard looks very different without his beard. It disappeared back in February, about the time he started using a sleep mask to treat his apnea. He doesn't look so much like his late brother John without the beard, which for yesterday was probably a good thing.
-
Loved DR Vixmom's photos and now I want a hot dog...
-
Great photos, DR Ginny - glad that you had such a good time. I love the portrait of the two of you!!
-
CONGRATULATIONS to Skip and his co-creators and company on the sterling review for Herringbone!!!
-
Skip is now on the train on his way to today's performance.
I've been reading him the posts which mention Herringbone, and send so many thanks for them.
-
Congrats to SKIP & Co on the great review!
DR GINNY the pictures are fantastic....thanks for sharing....everyone looks so happy!
-
DR GEORGE that restaurant link was very informative and ON THE MONEY.

Great photo!
-
Totally agree, such a lovely photo!
-
Well DR JANE....the two events are connected. The payroll taxes are just too much...and other government required taxes just make it difficult to stay open.
Since her husband died, there hasn't been his extra income to keep the household going....so some of the store $$ had to go there....and we just don't bring in enough to break even....so it was a little more debt every month.
So we may close this week OR the end of the month....we shall see what happens.
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of blessed sleep!
-
Congratulations to Skip!
-
I should have made the musicians a deal breaker, but it was like beating my head against a brick wall and I just got tired of it - I warned them then what would happen and I was right. The minute I stepped into the rehearsal with the band I knew we were in deed merde and I even said so then. And from minute one in the sessions everyone knew they should have listened to me. I remained calm and got us through it, and we performed miracles to save stuff in the mix, but after the first day of recording I told them we'd be back rerecording stuff and that it would probably now cost more than it would have had we done it with the right people in the first place.

Your comments made me laugh.
Some of the food photos on FB look very inviting, others I hide. Vegan dishes would likely be ok as it is some of the meat & fish ones that I don't want to see.
I have hidden strange photos of people.

-
Hello, everyone.
-
Glad you had such a nice birthday, Cilla.
-
Congrats to Skip on the great review. I'd really like to see HERRINGBONE sometime. I was sorry I missed it in La Jolla.
-
So sorry your car was broken into, Bruce. I know what an uneasy feeling that is. As others have said, as these things go you were lucky. No only did they not get much, they didn't trash your car out of frustration. I know how much you like your car; I'm glad it wasn't damaged.
-

It seemed you were saying the landlord might force you to move sooner than you expected. If that happens I hope you can do so easily enough. Closing a store sounds like a ton of work to me.
-
As for wishing the thieves ill, it probably isn't necessary. It probably isn't the first time they've done it and I suspect in time they'll be caught. They're taking a lot of risk for such meagre rewards.

Methinks it's due to the narcissism pills that were put in the water supply.
-
And all of that could have been avoided had they listened to you, bk, and used your players in the first place.
I was thinking the same thing. If it happens again you can always allude to the cheapskates and how much extra it cost them.

Lovely spot, but is there a Panera nearby? Oh, I think I see a village.
-
DR Ginny the photos from last night are wonderful. You and Richard look great and the bride beautiful. I found the father and daughter photos very touching.
-
Sunday afternoon greetings!
Not wilted at all! It's a great photo! I like your skirt, too. I used to have one in a similar fabric, but mine had a peach background. Do you wear the skirt with other colors, too? I think it would be quite versatile.
-
He doesn't look so much like his late brother John without the beard, which for yesterday was probably a good thing.
Maybe. You can see the joy in her face while dancing with her dear uncle.
-
I also had the honor of helping the mother of the bride get Lauren into her dress:

Very cute photo. Not the sort of thing one usually sees.

Now, there's PROOF! ;)
For some of us, it's a living.
:D An excellent reason for sharing your food photos.

DR John HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your mother.
-
Hi, Jane.
-
INDUSTRIAL-STRENGTH FEEL-BETTER VIBES to TCB!!
PRONTO!

BK and I have apparently been watching some of the same Netflix movies lately. I recently viewed MY BEST ENEMY. Excellent. A different sort of WWII drama.
-
Happy Sunday, all!
BK, I went to see opening night of Damn Yankees, and didn't realize that our own little Kritzer-starlet, Chelsea Emma Franko was playing Gloria the nosey news girl. She was wonderful, as was Cynthia Ferrer. They had a great Joe Hardy and Lola, and lots of talent with great voices. The orchestra sounded wonderful too.
Chelsea said you have to come and see her. (there, I've done her bidding :D).
Of course, I still had issue with that one piece of casting. For me, it was the one thing that didn't work. If you're gonna make cast a kid, he better have some gravitas and the ability to scare, and not just being a pest, having tantrums, and lots of schmancy costumes up his sleeve. But hey, that's just me. :)
-
Thanks, DRs Jane and Jeanne! Jane, I created my outfit around 2 pieces of Grandma Palmer's jewelry that I wanted to wear to Lauren's wedding - the gold coin around my neck and the opal ring on my right hand. I've had that skirt for more than 10 years and, yes, I also wear it with a green jacket or with a yellow sweater. My wrist "corsage" is ribbon flowers on a beige enamel bracelet that matched perfectly.
-
And for the rest?
The rest do it just to irk you.

Hi Jeanne. Sorry I left before responding.

Back from a going-away par-tay for a woman who has been a revered and indispensable member of the local theater community for at least the couple of decades that I've been around it. Fortunately, she's not going too far away -- she'll be living in the Poconos region of northeastern Pennsylvania -- but we'll miss her frequent participation and always expert assistance.

Jeanne had actually asked about your outfit, which was the only reason I didn't. Your new shoes looked nice with the outfit. I've also worn family jewelry to special family events. You did great coordinating your outfit, but then you seem to have a talent for that.

Will you visit her in the Poconos? On our first trip there I was 8 months pregnant with Craig and we went rafting for the first time. Keith was very nervous about taking me in that condition along with Bryan who was 2 1/2. Fortunately the rapids we went down were nothing.

Oh sure, any number of us will. Driving distance is two hours or less, so not a big deal distance-wise. And she'll be popping back up here for all of our opening nights.
-
Thank you, all, for the birthday wishes for Mom. I'll pass them along. I spoke with her earlier. Her phone has been ringing off the hook.
-
Went to see Chef this afternoon. Surprisingly better than I had thought. There's some fun social commentary in there as well as some great supporting performances. Bobby Canavale, Dustin Hoffman, Scarlett Johansen and Robert Downey Jr. were all really effective, even if there parts were tiny.

In addition to walking Bride Lauren down the aisle, Richard was also tapped for the father-daughter dance.

Skip's (and Ellen's and Tom's) show HERRINGBONE in Philly got a terrific review from Toby Zinman, the critic for the Inquirer, which seems to be the main paper for theater there.
Review: HERRINGBONE
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillystage/266924652.html (http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phillystage/266924652.html)

For the Inquirer
Flashpoint Theatre does it again: the second show of their summer
season (following their opener, Miz Martha) is a knockout, with Ben
Dibble giving a performance of stunning virtuosity. Herringbone is a
strange and compelling musical by anybody's standards.

Congrats to Skip and Company!

DR GEORGE that restaurant link was very informative and ON THE MONEY.
I know! I printed it out and will leave a copy for my sister and niece...who especially needs it.
;)

Oops, sorry, DR Jeanne - guess I'm more tired than I realized!
DR Jane, I only wore my new shoes, which have a somewhat high wedge heel, for the ceremony and official photos. On the way to the reception I changed into my flat ECCO sandals and wore them the rest of the evening.
-
It's my mom's birthday today, and I can't get a phone call through. Oh, well. I guess I'll nap.
Happy Birthday to your mom, John G.!! ;D
-
Thanks, DR George! Lauren's dress was lovely.
-
I think we HAD a month to month lease DR JANE. I don't now for sure....but it doesn't matter....he won't accept any more rent from my sister, and we are out on the 15th. She doesn't plan to reopen the store anyplace else.
We will all move on.

That's too bad, Jack.

I am very sorry to hear that WoW will be wise no more. ???
-
I'd been meaning to ask, DR Jrand63, and apologies if I should know this, but what kind of a store was it? A wholly independent one selling new books? A franchise? Secondhand books? Other?
-
DR Ginny, I love the photos from the wedding. I agree that you and Richard both look great and your outfit looks wonderful. I think it's fabulous you got to help Lauren with her dress. It's very clear that you all are very close and that she thinks the world of you and Richard. So glad you had a wonderful time.
-
JRand sorry about World of Wisdom. I just talked to a candy store owner here who is closing this month for similar reasons. It's sad to see independent businesses have to close.
-
Congrats to Skip!
-
Thanks everyone for the wishes before and after my b'day.
-
Am spending the day with the cats. Mowed the yard and am doing laundry. Other than breakfast with Paul, been home and other than the above just sitting.
-
Well, it's time for me to head out. I'm house-and-cat-sitting for both my sister and her boyfriend (they have never lived together). I need to feed their cats and all that goes along with that. But I'll have to go back again later this evening. I should've gone earlier today, but I didn't, so I'm going now.
Be back later.
-
It's going to be cool this week. Highs in the 70s lows in the 50s maybe even 40s until the end of the week then up to 80s. I can't wait! I have lots of yard work to do and should be able to get it done in the evenings.

Thank you, DR Cillaliz! I got to help with the dress because I own the crochet hooks the seamstress recommended for the buttons on the back. And, yes, we are close. Richard and I try to compensate for the fact that the other paternal uncle and his wife can barely be bothered. They did attend yesterday's ceremony, but not the reception. They didn't even hang around long enough to be in a family photo.
-
Here comes the bride on the arm of her uncle/godfather!
-
Skip's on the train back from Philly. I was reading him the wonderful posts here and he sends his gratitude for them.

I'm sorry that they aren't more involved for their sake, but so glad that you and Richard have risen to the occasion. Clearly it is appreciated

Good question DR George.
-
We went to the regular library for me to pick up a book, yes a regular hardback. I don't want to purchase the eBook since I'm not expecting to enjoy reading it. I need to read it for my book group. While we were at the library we checked out 3 DVD's. I think tonight we will watch CHARIOT'S OF FIRE. We also had CABARET and BILLY ELLIOT.

Back from another long day - but we got all the stuff from yesterday mixed into the mixes, and then we edited everything that needed to be edited. That will all get uploaded in show order to Dropbox by Tuesday night, then I'll listen to it that way, decide if I need to tweak anything, and if I don't, then it will go off to Mr. Kander.

Anybody still watching Food Network Star? The local chef, Luca Della Casa, has earned his way back onto the show and apparently cooked up a storm tonight. It's strange not having cable and trying to keep up with a TV show.
But good for Luca. He's a great guy.
