Well, you've read the notes, the notes were assembled, and now it is time for you to post until the assembled cows come home.

My sister loved the original "Dune" movie...I think.  I know she loved the books (at least, until Frank Herbert died).  I may have to get "Jodorowski’s Dune" for her birthday in September.  She might be interested...or she might not.  I think it sounds pretty interesting.

BK, about the play-offs that you recorded, what if you offered them as separate MP3 downloads?  When the show, "It's Only Life" was recorded, the transitions were made available as free downloads (http://www.psclassics.com/cd_itsonlylife.html).  Since you recorded them, it would be a shame to waste them, and they would be nice bonus for those (like me) who like such things. :)

Just a thought.

Wow, DR George - thank you!  I didn't know about these.  Now, if only they told you WHERE these transitions should be inserted in the running order of the CD!      ::)

DR CHAS SMITH - we WERE an independent metaphysical bookstore....selling new books, used books, candles, incense, stones, and assorted other like goodies.  We also offered readings, hypnotism, cleansings, aura photos, and the like.

There are a couple of other stores in the area, so nobody will be left without a resource.....they are newer and better funded than we are, so I have always wished them well.

The metaphysical/wiccan community is so full of jealous, hateful people that there will be much joy that World of Wisdom is no more....and that is what makes me most sad.

Got it.  And sorry to hear about that.  A couple of close friends here would have loved that store.  And I shall pass on to them what you said about the rampant jealousy in the community.  I believe they'll recognize that and be equally sad about it.

Good morning, all! I did not get to therapy today. Last night, the nerve in the heel of my left foot refused to give in to any drugs and kept me up very late with short jabs of pain. So, I was not asleep by midnight, more like somewhere after 1:30.  So, this morning, the 6:00 alarm didn't ring, and I slept until 9:15 or so, called therapy and apologized, and went back to bed.

So, this day bodes bad, but I hope not.  I may visit with my friend Arlo later; I want to hear how his Frank Loesser show went, and i can always continue the apartment clean up.

Bruce:  I re-read your notes about "The Time Machine" and have to say I agree with you...wholly.   Not only wholly, but wholly wholly.

It looks absolutely amazing on Blu ray.  The funniest thing, though:  I had read the BluRay.com review of the movie in which the reviewer employed a curious use of damnation amidst faint praise, all the while posting screen caps to make his points about how the film looks.  Strange thing in this case:  The screen caps looked absolutely wonderful and vibrant and totally belied the reviewer's comments.

Ah, well.

South African novelist Nadine Gordimer has died. Only read one of her books, "A World of Strangers," and that was while I was in South Africa. Loved the writing style, but so much had changed in South Africa by then that it seemed dated.

For some reason Amazon.com and Netflix are not working on my new smart tv.

Netflix hasn't worked for a few weeks, but for Amazon.com it has been just recently.

Youtube works fine.

I don't know what is the matter, but I hope it is an easy fix which does not require taking my giant tv into a repair shop.

Last night I finally watched, for the very first time, the 1939 HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. What a magnificent film! Why have I avoided it all of these years???

I am now eager to see the silent Lon Chaney version and then the 1960s Pakistani version.

I will probably pass on the Demi Moore/Jason Alexander verions, however.

TOD:   Little Pigs of America barbecue still vibes as the best BBQ I've ever eaten.  It was a franchise in South Carolina and it was delish.

I've had some ribs, from a local store in east Oakland, that are really good, as well.

I like all kinds of Barbecue but I'm more intrigued/aligned now with Carolina BBQ that is mustard-based.

I buy Kinder's BBQ sauce....original to which I add a little apple vinegar to sour it just a tad.

Kinder's also makes a Carolina-style sauce I enjoy very much.

The cafeteria near my desk stopped the really bad Indian food station they had (in which the food was made by people who had never tasted Indian food before) and they've opened a barbecue stand.

I'm curious, but not enough to brave the long line that's greeted its opening day. I'll wait to hear how the brisket is before placing an order.

I have spent most of the morning fighting the Trojan War.  Yes, dear friends, my computer has a virus.  In spite of the fact that I have just about every spy ware known to man or machine.  I noticed a few days ago that the computer was acting rather wonky, but I was not feeling up to thinking about it.  This morning it was acting very strange, so I pulled up a PC Anit-Mal Ware device that I had never used.

Twenty minutes later it had brought up a list of garbage and cookies, plus one Zumo(?) and one Trojan.  The program suggested I ignore the Zumo, and quarantine the Trojan.  So, I hit CLEAN and off it went.  A few long minutes later it said that all was good.  A minute later, the damn thing started another scan.  When that finished, all the garbage and cookies were gone, but Zumo and Trojan were still there.  So I hit CLEAN again and it came back fixed.  A few minutes later it started to scan again..............  Well, you get the idea.

Finally I switched the action from quarantine to delete; and now three times later I think it is gone.

I hope it ends soon.  It is because of your polar vortex that we are having this heat wave in the Northwest.

There were two people from my high school class who died last week.  One fell down the stairs and hit her head, fractured her skull and died. The other had several heart attacks- the last two in the hospital, and she also died. Their funerals were in different states at the same time.  Pretty eerie.  I knew them both pretty well, but especially Candy who was one of my best friends back in the 5th grade.

Anyway, between that and thinking about the upcoming 25th anniversary of the crash of flight 232 this weekend,  I've decided life is definitely too short not to have fun.  So that's what I intend to do.

Paul McCartney is coming to San Antonio for a benefit. Tickets are in the $1,000-$3,000 range except for a laughably few $250 seats.

Even those of us who usher were told we would have to sign up and then names would be drawn. You also have to usher so many times before that.

We had a similar situation for being able to usher for Joan Baez, who will be in town next week.  Those who had more volunteer hours had a better chance at getting it, and those who ushered or worked concessions more often for the end-of-year dance recitals (that very few like to do) also got a better chance of getting it.

I get to usher for the Joan Baez concert. :D

I'm really looking forward to this CD.  It'll be especially fascinating after having read of all these fixes.  I just (cough) acquired a (cough) copy of the PC score.  If it's as challenging as it sounds (and I don't disbelieve that for a minute), it will be highly amusing to sit down and have a tough go at it one of these days.

There is a published vocal selections, but they're not any of the arrangements in the show.  They're all just the (usually) simple songbook arrangements from the original shows...not too helpful, although the title song to "Kiss of the Spider Woman" was in this show before the first production of that show, so it doesn't have the key change that was put in for Chita.

I actually like it better without the key change, like Patti's versions of "With One Look" and "As If We Never Said Goodbye."  The key changes (to me) seem very awkward...it's not called an "unprepared modulation" for nothing.  Of course, you need someone like Patti or Robert Cuccioli who have the range to be able to sing them without the key change.

Well, color me ignorant!

(The subtitle of my Autobiography, Vol. IV - The Ignorant Years.)

I just had a look at this score, and sure enough, no key change.  If I ever knew about that, I forgot it long ago.  (Haven't listened to this in, like, forever.)  But I'm stunned.  That key change is wonderful -- especially in how it returns for the second verse.

Thank God for Chita!

I always loved Robert as Norma Desmond.

I know, right?

;)

I have to get to bed early tonight (meaning, NOW) because in the morning, several of us from the Collections Management department are taking a field trip! Tomorrow, we're going to visit the Pierce County Library to see how they do some things and we have to leave early. And we weren't told if we HAVE to bring our lunch, or if it's just okay to bring our own lunch.  I'm not prepared to make my own lunch, so I hope I leave enough time to stop at some place like Subway before I go to work.  There's one that very close.  On Thursday, we're going on another trip, but that'll be to visit the Ft. Vancouver Regional Library and see how they do some things. That will have an even earlier start time. :P

I actually wanted to be in bed by 11:00 pm, but tomorrow night will be the Theater Artists Olympia board meeting where the new officers who have just been elected will be installed as the new officers.  I had to put together the treasurer's report (essentially, just print out our check book balance) and I also printed the final voting numbers for all the positions that were up for election this year, which was everything but treasurer.  There are some changes, and not all will be happy changes...well, a couple of people won't be happy.  I'll be up for re-election next year.  AND Wednesday is the cut-off for invoicing at work, so I have so little time and so much to do in the next few days.  I hate it when that happens! :o
