Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of dunderheads and how to deal with them, and now it is time for you to post until the dunderheaded cows come home.

I hope those count.

Is "Lend Me a Tenor" considered a farce?  It's been quite a long time since I've seen that, but I really enjoyed it.

Good morning, all! Physical therapy at 11:00 today. Until then, i will putter around the apartment and clean off my work table. I've got a small project to finish for the Moross estate and I think there will be some more editorial work coming in on some film scores in the near future.  Since I have no major work at the moment, i've decided to start a few projects of my own to keep myself occupied. One of them is the Rodgers & Hart flop Chee-Chee, which intrigues me.

DR George, I was never aware that Moross wrote a score for "The Adventures of Huckleberry Hound," but I really love his score for "Huckleberry Finn!" The suite from the film was one of my editorial jobs about three years ago.

Gretchen Cryer has a restaurant? I haven't seen her in about 8-9 years now, and I have this memory that she was either moving to LA to be closer to Jon or maybe she was just going west for a visit when I last saw her.

I'm a little bit confused about the numbering system for the KRITZERLAND AT STERLING'S shows. If the just completed show was #48, then wouldn't the next one be #49? So the anniversary show would be October, not September?       :-\

The orignal soundtrack to Moross' "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" was released some years ago on the FSM label.  It is still for sale at the Screen Archives site.  Follow this link (http://www1.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/3460/ADVENTURES-OF-HUCKLEBERRY-FINN/) to see what's on the CD and to listen to samples in full stereo.

TOD - NOISES OFF on Broadway 30 years ago next month.  August of 1984 was awful for Richard and me because our fathers died less than a week apart.  After things settled down, we decided to take a long weekend in NYC and I called DR Elmore for theatre advice.  We agreed that I'd send him a check and he'd get tickets for SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE and something else of his choosing.  He chose NOISES OFF  and it was just the silliness we needed after the August awfulness.

I am imagining how Moross would do with Huckleberry Hound.

I like the cymbals and whistles....but that was probably orchestration.

I'm guessing the Little House On The Prairie books are probably not that popular.  Also, isn't it much cheaper to buy it on amazon.com vs buying it in the store?  I love looking at the huge Chapters bookstore near my house. But a hardcover would be $21 and the same book would even be much cheaper to buy it at Chapters online.

bk, it should cost between 5 and 10 dollars, depending on if it is an envelope or a package, and assuming you are choosing first class airmail, and not one of the more expensive services.

One of you computer people tell me - how much does it cost to send one three-ounce package overseas to say Great Britain?

At First Class international rate...for 3 ounces to Great Britain...just under $10 ($9.45) for postage (I computed for a package rather than a letter).

Value of contents can not exceed $400.00
Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36"
Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42"

When the postal rates went up over a year ago, we were told by the post office 12.50 to Great Britain.  Maybe CDs are over three ounces?  Maybe that's the difference.  I'm just trying to figure out how some online shops are charging ten dollars and not losing money.

The Man from Philadelphia is still in his manic "I must screw all this up as quickly as possible and I don't care whom I drive off in my madness" phase today. It's taking all my patience to not send a big "blow it out your ass" response.

I don't know Ormandy's versions, but the symphonies are certainly wonderful.

Good evening.  Got the application filed today.  I'm the first. That surprised me as the announcement was 2 weeks ago.  The final deadline isn't until the 18th, but I learned today that the commission is getting the apps as they come in, so I think it's an advantage to get the app to them early so they can check on whatever they want to before interviews

Good luck and have fun (hopefully) with Chee-Chee

As for "Hound" vs. "Finn"...um, SPOO!! :o

DR elmore3003, do you have a preferred recording of Pelléas et Mélisande?

I do: von Karajan conducting Stilwell and von Stade. She sounds just right as the droopy Melisande and Stilwell was really good in the 1970s.

It's a piece I like to listen to, like the Ring Cycle, as I putter about and tidy, but they bore me to death onstage, since there's little to no action.  Gorgeous music, though.

I am home from physical therapy, a bit sad about Morgan's move to Laredo.

The Man from Philadelphia is still in his manic "I must screw all this up as quickly as possible and I don't care whom I drive off in my madness" phase today. It's taking all my patience to not send a big "blow it out your ass" response.

But the day is young

And here you have the trio of urchins.....hairstyles left to right:

Molly Bee, Annette Funicello, Audrey Hepburn......   They didn't turn out too bad. They will wear their BEEHIVE wigs for the finale.  Molly's hair is her own ponytail, Annette & Audrey are wigged.

And just because this reminds me of it, I love the song, "Crystal, Ronnette & Chiffon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngJgoQkafY8)."

HERE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX8dDU-whpU) is Debbie Shapiro Gravitte singing and talking about Alan Menken's music, and if you jump to 4:28, she talks about BK!  I didn't realize that this has been online since last year.

DR George, what's wrong with this picture?  Local. Community. College.

These pieces, especially the commedia dell'arte from Gozzi and Goldoni, need brilliance from the director and from the cast. FT Ginny and I were in the least funny, most god-awful, community theatre production of Auntie Mame ever. Seriously. Ever.

I know, I know...but in my defense, I was only ushering for it.  I was volunteering for the theater, not paying to see a play by a local community college, or even going to see a friend in the show.

The doctor called me early this evening and told me that it is needed to preclude the chance of the problem developing into cancer. Of course when you hear the C word it becomes very difficult and that's all you hear. I will be seeing the doctor tomorrow to know if it will be a full or partial. I will get a second opinion or course. But with all the other medical problems I am having at the moment this sort of trumps everything else.

I think the Ansermet recording of "Pelleas" is the only one I listened to way back in the day when it was done at school, and I've probably only heard a Met broadcast or two since those years.  I thought it was lovely back then.  I wonder if I'd recognize more than five consecutive bars of it now.  Okay, maybe ten.

Pelléas et Mélisande

That's copied and pasted from DR singdaw's original post.  How do all of you pull in the foreign language accents, etc., for things like this?  I thought I had an application you could pick all of that from -- but where did it go?

I'm going to start looking into other Blu-ray and DVDs of the classical repertoire because I'm enjoying watching these so much and the sound is so fantastic.  Just had La Mer with Ormandy and now Tchaikovski's Violin Concerto with Perlman and Ormandy.

Mike, I had a thyroidectomy in 1988.  Since then I take one daily dose of synthroid  and things have been fine

Mine was suspected  cancer at the time and it turned out to be benign.

I had a variety of medical issues that all went away once the thyroid was removed and I  stabilized with the synthroid

Please feel free to PM  or call me ( I will PM  my # to you)

Tonight I called my mom.  After talking to her I talked to my dad.  He said "Well, your mother wants to talk to you again" I heard her say "No, I don't"  so we said goodbye and hung up. About 10 seconds later the phone rang and mom said "Your dad hung up and I was waiting to talk to you"  I told her I heard her say she didn't want to and she said "Well I don't have anything to say" I said "Thanks for calling to let me know that" We both she laughed  and said goodbye.

I adore my mom, she really makes life funny
