Well, you've read the notes, the notes were off and running, and now it is time for you to post until the off and running cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BAILIWICK!
-
Morning all.
That is all.

Well, it's taken me far too long (sorry BK), but I wrote a review for "Red Gold (http://www.amazon.com/review/R1WB66QHI7TSFV/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=1491873914)":
(http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/x-locale/common/customer-reviews/stars-5-0._V192240867_.gif) A New Story of the Old West, August 10, 2014
Full disclosure: I’ve read all of Bruce Kimmel’s books and I’ve been a fan since I read his first. “Red Gold” is set in Stillwater, California, in the year 1880, and is about 10-year-old Jeremiah Goldberg and his mother Sarah (the only Jewish family in Stillwater), his friends Rachel Burgoyne and Fong Lee, and Fleet Barringer, the man that Sarah is sweet on.
There’s murder at the heart of this story. Jeremiah’s father was killed three years earlier, and now a local newspaperman is killed. Are they somehow related? Jeremiah wants to investigate but can’t get help from the local sheriff. He doesn’t seem interested in helping anyone. Could he be involved in the murders??
Jeremiah does get help from his friends John and Emma Grant, an older couple who retired to Stillwater. John formulates a plan and they (John, Jeremiah, Rachel, Fong and Emma) set it up, put it in motion and (if you’ll pardon the expression) execute it to its incredibly satisfying conclusion.
The only disappointment was that I got through it too quickly! Of course, Mr. Kimmel told the story that he wanted, but certainly I wouldn’t have minded a little more of it. It’s humorous and touching, and at times quite exiting. I hope that Mr. Kimmel continues the story of Jeremiah Goldberg.
:)

And now, to bed.
Good night, Ben.
-
Very much looking forward to the release of the new And the World Goes Round!
-
Good morning, all.
One more hour of sleep, please.
Woops. Too late. I'm already up. Coffee!
-
This Redondo Beach performing arts jernt is a new thing to me.
And what a damning review that was. Damn, damn, damn, damn! Wait, wrong damn musical.
Several years ago I saw an amateur production of Damn Yankees at a so-so outdoor venue with bring-your-own seating, a so-so sound system, and accompanied by a couple of keyboards (but original show book used), and it was charming because this director "gets" all of that stuff.
Wow. What a disaster.
-
TOD:
I'm a little sad to say I have no racetrack experiences. Maybe one -- I think someone took us the dog races in Florida when I was a kid. But I never went in California.
Never went in the suburbs of Chicago, either, but when I first moved there I loved driving by the Arlington Park Race Track because the bleachers building was this beautiful grand old structure. And then wouldn't you know the damned thing burns down not long after the year I was there. At least they rebuilt it right away and it looks like the track is still going strong.
Anyhoo, even though I wasn't really the racing type, I think I would have liked going now and then, and I'm sorry I didn't during the heyday of the Los Angeles area parks.
-
Good morning to all
-
Today I have a daytime rehearsal, which pretty much kills the day but it should be productive and enjoyable. We scheduled a couple of long Sunday ones to accommodate one cast member who's commuting in order to be in the show. So I shall be E&T through most the day.
-
My racetrack experience tend to be movies like:
Little Miss Marker
A Day At The Races
The Sting
Going Places (Where the song Jeepers Creepers was introduced)
National Velvet
The Black Stallion
I am sure there are others but these come right to mind
-
While considering a second cup of coffee and a couple of slices of rye toast, I idly googled the "Damn Yankees" production to see what I could find. I didn't learn much -- mostly, that it played in Fullerton before moving to Redondo. A couple of "reviews" mainly tell the story, but there's nary a bad word to be found...
"WOW! Few 1950s musicals have stood the test of time as well as Damn Yankees, proof positive of which can now be seen at Fullerton’s Plummer Auditorium in 3-D Theatricals’ pitch-perfect revival of the 1955 Broadway gem..."
http://www.stagescenela.com/2014/07/damn-yankees-2/
"Cancel that flight to New York; there’s no need to fly all that way to experience Broadway. Not when there is a locally produced, wonderfully staged, energetic and enthusiastic musical from 3-D Theatricals."
http://www.presstelegram.com/arts-and-entertainment/20140715/3-d-theatricals-damn-yankees-hits-home-run-in-fullerton-before-coming-to-redondo-beach?source=alsorecommended
And in my silly opinion, what a horrible name. Doesn't "3-D Theatricals" sound like the outfit you'd find in the Yellow Pages to do the lighting and special effects at a rock concert, or to entertain with magic acts at a corporate function?
But get this -- here's their very own blurb on Facebook:
"Opening night was a HUGE success! Having to hold the house because we had a line that wrapped around the corner wasn't the worst thing matinee starts at 2pm today! Did we mention we have a full bar at Redondo?"
https://www.facebook.com/pages/3-D-Theatricals/191607813283
That's accompanied by a photograph of a few of the bottles at the bar, in case we might not know what they meant by "full bar".
Edit: And don't miss the couple of customer "reviews"!
-
We went to the track at Atlantic City for dinner and horse racing a few times while on vacation growing up over the years. I remember it being very colorful and exciting. I liked studying the Daily Form and making my selections, but I don't think I actually bet.
-
Good morning.
-
Good morning, all.
Sunday vibes to those in need.
-
I love a good trip to the track. Back in college, which was in Lexington, Ky., I would occasionally cut class and spend the afternoon at Keeneland. During the week, it was never crowded and the people watching was good as the race watching. It was also affordable, which was another draw.
-
A big Sunday Howdy to everyone!

A big Sunday Howdy to everyone!
Is that anything like an Oklahoma hello, Will?
-
Well.....my guess is that MR BK's review was more along the lines of the facts about the show, but those linked reviews almost sound like they were written by "friends."
-
I am saddened by the Tony Stewart incident......watched the video and there was NO reason for that driver to be ON the track.....he was behaving like an idiot.
And Stewart's team says business as usual, Stewart will race today. Tragedy all around.

Oh, of course!
Okay, I'm off. Probably not to see the wizard ... but one never knows, does one? Back tonight.
-
DR Cilla thanks for the report on The 100 foot Journey.
-
Nice photos DR Vixmom.
-
From DR Singdaw:
DR Jane - I don't miss meat at all. It's just fun posting and talking about food here on HHW.
;D I don't miss it either. I just wish more restaurants had a variety, or at least tofu, as a regular substitute for meat or chicken. It is a very easy thing to do.
-
From DR TCB:
The annoying thing was that the cruise line refused to admit that anything was wrong.
Now they admit it right away and bully everyone about regulations. Don't dare get sea sick or they will say you have the virus and lock you in your room.
-
DR Laura the Night Blooming Cactus is lovely.

Having recently been there I can picture you doing this.
-
Stewart racing now says that Tony will NOT race today. Good call.
-
I don't remember if I went to the Hollywood Race Track. I went to Delmar once and to Santa Anita once, which is still open.
On one occasion I recall my father giving my brother our money to hold to bet. I picked one horse that didn't win. Before betting we would stand near the track and watch the horses walk by. One horse stopped in front of me, turned his head and talked to me before moving on. I insisted, and insisted, and insisted, this horse would win but since I had just picked a loser my brother refused to bet on the horse. My father knew better as I was often correct when my instincts were that strong. He bet on the long shot horse that talked to me. We all went out to dinner after the races on the winning. I walked away with nothing and was annoyed with my brother-lol
-
but one never knows, does one?
One does not. :)
-
Two, by the way.
-
Happy Sunday, all!
BK, I read your forum comments on Damn Yankees last night. And that one piece of casting we talked about - Painful. Even a cast member I spoke to afterward said that many in the cast wondered about the choice too. It kinda sounded like they didn't think it worked either.
And you are so right about Two Lost Souls. I thought I was watching a different show all of a sudden.
On a happier note, I'm glad your work session went well yesterday and road is clearer for release. :D
-
The company doing the show gets those two reviews for every show they do, especially from the first gentleman. This is the problem in LA - well, it's not a real problem, but excellent reviews are the order of the day here unless you get the lead reviewer from the LA Times or our own Rob Stevens.
-
I'm up after nine and a half hours of blessed sleep.
-
I have never been to a race track
-
I have, however, almost gotten my laundry done.
-
Wow, all alone here on a Sunday afternoon. Last load of laundry in the dryer. It's overcast and humid.
-
As soon as the laundry is done, I'll head to the grocery store and get something fun for dinner.
-
Cilla is very close to 41000. Is that considered a milestone?
-
I would say if it ends in a bunch of zeros it's a milestone
-
Laundry done off to the store
-
We went out for brunch so dinner will be light tonight. I washed and changed the sheets before we left and am not washing a load of towels.
-
The facebook page I have been following for the fires had this to say:
".....over the next 72 hours for fires starting might be unlike anything I have ever seen here. We are going to see a prolonged period of dry lightning storms accompanied by winds that will cause rapid growth of new fire starts."
-
Good evening, all! I slept poorly, very very poorly last night and i did not get out of bed until 4:30 or so. i will shortly go back to bed.
-
I hope you sleep tonight!!!!
-
DR Ginny Goodreads shows you "added" White Teeth
by Zadie Smith. Did you read it?
Has anyone read this? It was recommended to me.

The Man Buying Up All the World's Vinyl
By MONTE REEL
Since he was a child, Zero Freitas has been unable to stop buying records. Now he wants to save every album in existence.

In the photo, that's Ormandy's MESSIAH laying right in front of the gentleman.
-
Very interesting story, by the way. Worth a read.
-
Back from putting the fixes into the mixes - actually it had already been done and I just made some minor adjustments and I'm happy to say that other than any notes we may get from NY, which I may or may not do, this album is finally, at long last - DONE.
-
Congratulations, BK!
-
I'm going to read for awhile so I can recharge my Nook in case we lose power. So far it is still a lovely day.
-
Well we have the Belmont race track here which I have not been to since the Vixter was 2 and I have nver been there for the triple crown
we used to have many on Long Island but alas they are all shopping malls now
-
that's what we do with history on long island
The place where Lindbergh took off on his historic flight to Paris? a shopping mall
-
the site of the building of the first vehicle to land on the moon? shopping mall

horse racing tracks, drive in movies, revolutionary war sites.... shopping malls shopping malls shopping malls

I have never been to a race track
Neither have I. I don't really have any interest, either.
-
I have, however, almost gotten my laundry done.
That's what I need to do. Better get started. :P
-
Sunday evening greetings! As if having my alarm set for 5:20's not bad enough, I woke up before 5am today and couldn't go back to sleep. By the time we got home from Lima I was ready to drop, which I did for a couple of hours.
-
We had a great time yesterday celebrating the 70th birthday of the first wife of Richard's late older brother.
-
Popping in for a quick "hello." It has been a busy and endless day of going and doing, doing and going. We took in a jazz concert this afternoon. Tonight, it's "100 Years of Broadway."
-
Great news that bk's recording is finally finished.
-
"The site of Roosevelt Raceway is part of the Hempstead Plains, located in an unincorporated area of the Town of Hempstead, within the Westbury 11590 Zip Code. It is located near where the first English Governor of New York, Richard Nicolls, established the "Newmarket Course", the first horse racing track in North America (and indeed, the first organized sport of any kind) in the territory that would become the United States, in 1664"
and now.....
(let's all say it together.....)
shopping mall!!
-
Tonight, it's "100 Years of Broadway."
so you'll be away some time.....

At least there are lots of places to shop
I've never researched it but I suspect that we may have one store for every 5 people ....
-
actually that estimate may be a little low
-
Another almost inch of rain this afternoon. We already have a record rainfall for the summer. Wish I could send it to you Jane
-
Off to go watch the finale of Food Network Star as Luca Della Casa does his best to win the season. Should be fun.
-
John G, Do you know Luca Della Casa? I think I may have missed something
-
I happened to turn on Antenna TV earlier and whom did I see but our own BK playing "Marvin" in an episode of The Partridge Family!
-
TOD: If I recall correctly, I've only been to a racetrack once--in Buffalo about 37 years ago, I'd guess!
-
I'm glad to hear that you're pleased with the recording, BK! Looking forward to it!
-
ARG! I went to the grocery store that causes me so much grief today and once again EVERYTHING has been moved. I got irritated just thinking about it so when they asked me how everything was and if I found everything I told them what I thought. I think I make a bigger deal out of this than I need to, but it's hard to find anything there. On the positive side, the way over ordered watermelon so they were 99 cents a piece!
-
Whew! Lots of chores done today. Tired. But looking forward to an evening of rest. Still have lots of cleaning to do this week to be read for Jon and Joe to come next Saturday, but I'll get it done. The laundry takes the longest and that's done. The rest I can do a little every night and it'll be good to go when they come visit

So do I. I am hoping we get rain and not lightening.
-
Page 3 really?
-
Bryan had the day off and was able to call for a nice long chat :)
He and Keith spent a good part of the time discussing the scheduled surgery that Keith might cancel. Bryan said he will talk to an orthopedist he knows and ask some questions.
-
Soon Bryan will be applying for a job even though he won't be done with his residency until May next year. We told him if he moves to Portland or Seattle we would move there. Of course the place he would like to live are favorite locations and more difficult to get a job.
-

Ahem.

I stayed on the phone and answered two political robot surveys. I gave negative feedback on all candidates.

Are you also facing lightening storms tonight & tomorrow?
-
John G, Do you know Luca Della Casa? I think I may have missed something
Yeah. He's a chef here in SA.
-
Fun scene at the bar in the restaurant where Luca's chef. The cheering has started. And the drinks are flowing. He's survived another round.

I like Wae-Ling's quote.

DR CILLA LIZ - sometimes when I am asked that question.....I also give an honest answer. It depends on my mood.
-
Congrats to MR BK & Co on completing the album!
Yes DR CHAS SMITH that was a very interesting article.....sometimes I feel like the man in the photograph.....although my collection probably number only in the 500-600 range.

FOOD NETWORK STAR SPOILER@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Sorry Luca didn't win, John G, but as cute as he is, it would have been another Italian food show.
-
DR JRand - I usually just say "Fine" when I'm asked that question. I don't know why that store irritates me so much. The store I really like is closed on Sundays so my choices on Sunday are limited
-
Luca came in second. That sucks. But I think he did develop some following.

He's adorable. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on either FoodTv or The Cooking Channel. I've seen several non-winners on tv just not on their own show

He is. And Lenny has an outsized personality that does work. I loved the way he interacted with the kid. Which makes me think he'd do a good show with kids. Could still be serious food show.
-
Third time to play through Centennial Summer. Love it.
-
Loved "Hundred-Food Journey." The plot is predictable, but the character study was interesting. There were also a couple of moments when the young lead, Manish Dayal, looked scarily like Sal Mineo.
It will be interesting to learn MBarnum's take on the movie.
Plus, the previews for "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" were wonderful. Also predictable. And who cares?

My friend Carol got to see Chita Rivera today in "The Visit." The two of them worked together more decades ago than would be polite to mention. Carol loved the show more than the NYT did.

Richard Gere is one of the new old folks to check in, much to the delight of the libidinous Celia Imbrie. And, of course, Penelope Wilton makes it back to India and the hotel.

Yeah. He's a chef here in SA.
I figured that out after I posted the question. Didn't want to delete a post :)

I felt the same way about 100 Foot Journey. We didn't get the preview of The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I loved the first one. Looking forward to that. I don't mind predictable, but mentioned it here for those who care about such things

I think photobomb is my newest detested term. It's overtaking "reboot" referring to a remake or sequel to a movie or tv series.

That was live, if I understand it correctly.

That was what they showed today. One of maybe 15 previews. Only it and Into the Woods looked good. The rest were all depressing or mind-numbing.
-
I sat through commercials for about 20 minutes and then a bunch of previews. I'm going to remember not to worry about being on time in the future

The vote only went through Tuesday. So it might have been taped sometime between then and now, but I still think it was live.

So far the skies have stayed clear :)
-
Unable to concentrate on a motion picture, I took the bull by the horns, buckled down Winsocki and wrote the liner notes for And the World Goes Round, along with doing the track listing and credits.
-
Is it just my computer, or is anyone else not able to access Facebook?
-
I was on and all of a sudden, it just stopped working for me.
-
I can't go anywhere on FB, but I have no trouble going anywhere else on-line.
-
That's a good thing! :) We must all wean ourselves off of that place.
-
And just think, you can post all the stuff you were about to post there here. And thanks for the Red Gold review, which I enjoyed very much!
-
And just think, you can post all the stuff you were about to post there here. And thanks for the Red Gold review, which I enjoyed very much!
It's not that I care about FB that much (I rarely actually post anything there), but the Theater Artists Olympia board communicates through FB, and that's what I was dealing with. We have a board meeting on Tuesday and I was asking questions in preparation for it.
-
I also need some information on a show that we want to do in October. Then it crapped out on me. :P
-
And I'm glad you liked the review. :D I really did enjoy the book! Can't wait for the next Jeremiah story!

And it's back for me! Facebook, that is.

Well...
