Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hushed and didn't have any puppies, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently all wearing Hush Puppies and smoking pipes.

And the word of the day is: SEREIN!

In my DVD player right now from Netflix (I'm actually watching it) is "Under the Skin," with Scarlett Johansson. It's quite...unusual. I don't think I care for it, but I'll finish it. She plays some kind of an extra-terrestrial alien. Here's the beginning of the full synopsis on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1441395/reference):
A gothic horror story about alien predators who lure humans, through the suggestion of sex, into a secret lair where their skin is harvested so other aliens may move freely among the unsuspecting humans they hunt.
It's very stylized and there's very little dialogue. On Amazon.com, it got 121 five-star ratings, but 272 one-star ratings. I don't remember why I put it in my Netflix cue, but I did, so I'll watch it.

Morning all.
That is all.
-
We continue our journey today with a drive to Michigan for a few days in one place.
-
Had a nice time at the pool, had a nicer nap and then dinner at a nice place. I can't remember the name because it's dark in the room and Anthony is asleep.
I then continued reading "Represented by Audrey Wood" It's her autobiography.
She was a fascinating character. A friend was signed by her in 1980-81 just before AW had her incapacitating stroke.

Good morning, all! I would love to go back to bed this morning, but that will not happen snce i have t be at therapy by 9:15 or so My beloved therapist Morgan leaves the job today; I will miss her. She's not only the person I credit most for getting me back n my feet, but she's become a dear friend in the process, This will be a sad session.
After that, I will return here and deal with the laundry, see what fresh hell comes down the pike, and maybe get some work accomplished on the Moross project.

Thank you, dear, for the hopes and god wishes!
At present, I have absolutely no commitment at present with either the foundation or the university, I don't even know if I want anything to develop. After the behavior of the men in charge of both foundations I've worked for, I'm very ambivalent. At present, I'm just metaphorically throwing pasta against the wall and seeing if anything sticks
-
It might feel good to do that literally.
Just sayin'. :)

These are also called "hush puppies." Especially if you are from the south. But you don't wear them on your feet - on the outside of them, anyway.

We had dinner at Creekside Restaurant and Bar (http://www.creeksiderestaurant.com/) in Brecksville, OH.
It's a nice place, reasonably priced but they serve large portions. Anthony couldn't finish his pot roast and since we don't have a fridge in our room he just had her take it away. I had a good "London" burger.
Later, gaters.

Friday morning greetings! Much coming and going in our family this weekend. Rob and Mary Linda are going to her parents' for a wedding (family friends). My sister, who's in NE Ohio now, will arrive in Middletown this afternoon to spend some time with Mom tomorrow. On Sunday, she and I head to Owensboro, KY, for some genealogy research into our father's side of the family. The kids will be back Sunday evening and Nancy and I will be back on Tuesday. This is not a Lima weekend for Fr. Richard, so he will stay home with the cat.

Good morning, all.
Had some wicked allergy sneezing last night, one of those spells that makes you wonder if you've got a cold instead, but I'm 99% sure I don't. I finally took a Benadryl and called it an early night. But I'd left windows open and the house was freezing when I got up. Yes, you read that correctly. On August 15th, the house was freezing when I got up. Had to run the furnace for ten minutes to take the chill off. Oy!
Coffee!

TOD
Watched TOUCH OF EVIL. I know I'm late to the party, but this is the first time I've watched the entire reconstructed Welles version, and it's a revelation. I always had a fondness for the Mancini-scored opening and the visual style of the main titles, but it's so much more intense without all of that. The film as a whole is more powerful. I'm sold, and would probably never go back to the earlier cuts.
Tonight a couple of friends are coming over to see THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON in 3D. We're going to have to run it a couple of times, because thanks to the extraordinarily shoddy design of these Panasonic active-shutter glasses, I'm down to two pair that don't have broken frames. I might be able to fix one with some very super super-glue if I can get to the store this morning. I look forward to this myself, because I'd only ever looked at a few scenes when the Blu-ray came out.

Continued travel vibes to DR Ben and Anthony - say HI to Rob and Mary Linda if you bump into them in Michigan this weekend!

I had a few pairs of Hush Puppies (shoes, not slippers) back in the day. The first pair or two were very comfortable, probably in comparison to anything else I'd had, but when I tried some in later years, I found them not very comfortable at all. Maybe they had different styles and I wasn't paying attention.
I don't think I ever had their slippers. But I've tried various kinds of slippers over the years, never sticking with one type. I've worn through whatever this latest pair is and really need to do some slipper shopping sometime soon for something comfy during the cold season*.
*Note I said "cold season". I didn't want to type that other word.

Thanks for the tip, DR John G! I have had barbecue in Owensboro - 40 years ago- but I don't know if it was mutton.

Good morning. Very humid on the mountain this morning. But it was so nice to have had some rain!
-
DR Laura, when Mom lived in Phoenix she used to call and complain when it got muggy - 12% humidity.

I know I had a pair of Hush Puppies (or two) over the years.
The shoe I really wanted, but could never find in my size, was a nice pair of Bass Weejuns!

Hush Puppies
2/3 cup corn meal (self-rising)
1/3 cup plain flour
onion, diced (to your taste)
1 egg
Mix with milk to make a stiff batter.
Just before cooking in hot oil (enough to cover each hush puppy you put into it), add
1 teaspoon of baking powder to your batter and thoroughly mix.
You can form the hush puppies as you wish -- little ball, small wiener- shaped rolls or drop by teaspoon and let it form itself.
Cook until golden brown (depends on temperature of your oil).

And I am home from therapy. I got teary but i did not burst into tears or throw myself on the floor and beg her not to leave me, as I did in 1985 with my shrink.

DR GEORGE I think that MR BK wrote about UNDER THE SKIN a few weeks ago.
THAT'S why I put it in my Netflix cue. Well, I didn't hate it, and it kind of held my interest. I think I just wanted a little more explanation. I wonder if it assumes that people have read the book and know what's really going on. It was originally published in 2000, but the library reordered it just this past March...probably because the movie was being released on DVD (we bought 10 DVDs and there are 50 holds). I "recommended" the OverDrive e-book, so that I can download it to my Kindle and find out what's really going on. ;)

the use of the Theremin in the theme music.

And, of course, The Brain From Planet X!

And speaking of Snopes...I'm sure someone was, somewhere in the world. ;) A FB friend posted a picture there, and I clicked on it, and then clicked through other pictures, and eventually came to this:

Wow, I guess I am a freak about pain. I've had extractions and root canals and the like and as long as I'm full of Novocaine I don't have a problem during or when the drug wears off.

We are settled in our nice hotel in Brighton, MI (it's about 20 minutes from Ann Arbor, due north). It's a nice place with free breakfast, a pool, a workout room and this one is in walking distance of Target, Home Depot, Chili's and IHop. We just got back from lunch at Ihop. We went there in honor of Vixmom. We both had crepes. Anthony had Crepes Florentine and I had Crepes with grilled chicken, bacon and white cheddar. They were both good though Anthony thinks the water tastes almost like well water. I don't know if younger people know what "well water" tastes like. It's a distinctive taste that I haven't tasted for decades! He asked for some lemon to put in the water and he said that helped. I didn't have water, I had coffee (I know, it's made with water but the coffee flavor overwhelms the well water flavor).
Anthony is taking a nap right now and I may quit the laptop and take a nap also. Most of the relatives (we're here for a reunion) are going to a baseball game tonight (The Detroit Tigers vs. some other team, I don't have a clue which one) and we're NOT going as you could probably tell from the aside. We have no interest in BB so we will hang out at the hotel and greet one of my sisters and a niece when they arrive from the airport.
The big festivities are tomorrow. According to the weather bug it's supposed to rain with lightning and thunder. There will be an outdoor canopy but if it does get bad I guess we will end up in the house.
We will stay on Sunday as well and head back to New York on Monday morning.

As difficult as it is to lose your wonderful physical therapist I imagine losing your shrink was far more traumatic.

You are about half an hour from where we lived. I have skied on Mt. Brighton and I recall Brighton is a cute little town. It is very likely you have well water there. Our first Michigan home had well water. It was the 2nd of three homes we have had with well water, and all three tasted different. Our first experience, in Pennsylvania, the water was delicious.
The Tigers are playing the Seattle Mariners tonight so I hope the Tigers win.
Have fun at the reunion.
-
Thanks, Jane.
Our relatives from Sheffield, England are here as well and they are decked out in Detroit Tiger shirts. It's Bobble Head night at the stadium and the first 1000 ticket holders get a Tiger bobble head. They have all headed out early so they can be Bobble Head recipients!
-
Has anyone tried Peter Filichia's quiz yet on Kritzerland.com? There are a couple that are nagging at me.
-
DR Ben, I'm happy you and Baxter have reached your destination safely. I always liked the taste of well water, which was the water in Appalachia and my aunt's farm outside Columbus, OH.To my knowledge, I probably haven't tasted actual well water in almost 50 years.
I'm looking forward to all the photos!

We drove to the reunion because I am transferring ownership of a 1941 Zenith Floor Model radio to my younger brother. It belonged to my father and when he died it was the only thing of his that I wanted. He knew that and he left it to me. My younger brother was disappointed but didn't make a stink about it. I didn't get the radio to New York until 1997 (my father died in 1993) when Anthony and I drove to Minnesota, loaded it in his car and drove it back. Those of you who have been to our apartment may remember the radio in the living room sitting against the wall. Well, as much as I love the radio I rarely use it because it only gets AM stations but not the one that I would listen to, WNYC (New York City public radio). I can't get FM so I can't listen to the FM side of WNYC. It looks beautiful in the room but I decided since my brother wanted the radio as well that this was a good opportunity to take it back (halfway) and give it to him. He's very excited about getting it and will drive it back to Minnesota from Michigan.
I can't find any of the pictures at Photobucket that I've posted over the years of the apartment. Many of the pictures have a shot of the radio so here is a shot I found on line of what the Radio looks like. It's exactly like the one we have brought with us to Michigan. I think some pictures from Photobucket may been deleted over time. Oh, well. No problem, just odd that I can't find them. I went through every page (51 pages) looking for them but they are not in the queue.

DR Ben, you are in very familiar territory. I, of course, went to school in Ann Arbor and my parents lived in Northville after fleeing Detroit in 1968. Mom and I had a delightful lunch 2 years ago at, I think, Cafe Amici in Brighton with some long time friends of our family.
Enjoy your stay in SE Michigan and your family reunion!

My boss doesn't like it when his wife reads aloud passages from her romance novels to him in an effort to get him to whisper such sweet nothings in her ear the way that the heroes of her books do. His version of what they say, "You are like a moonbeam dancing off a Rice Krispie treat."
We've been laughing at that all afternoon here.

I like your boss's sense of humor. I'm tempted to read passages from romance novels just to hear what Keith would come up with. The romance novels I read are basically take place during Jane Austen's era I don't think that would work.

I haven't stopped since arising at nine-thirty after only five hours of sleep. Mostly organizing the garage - so much better now - all the Kritzerland show books are now labeled and easy to find, so that was the most important thing. We found out Liberty Valance will be here on Tuesday, so those will go out then. And I had lunch and then a run-through with Juliana. Now back to the garage.

I don't know what could've happened to Ben's pictures. I really hope that things aren't being deleted automatically after a certain amount of time. That wouldn't be good. However, something good did come out of the situation...when I just went to look at things on Photobucket.com, I saw that our free HHW account has 2GB of space and as I posted, it was 41% full.
Well, there was a banner that said just for downloading and using the Photobucket app onto a device, we could get an extra 8GB of space, for a total of 10GB, still for free! I downloaded the app to my Android device and logged in with the regular HHW login, and all of a sudden we're only 8% full! The amount of FREE space has just been increased by 500%! So, link those pics!! :D
-
I would assume that anyone can also download the app and log in with the regular HHW login. If someone's willing to try it, please let us know.

I kept reading this over and thinking Austin expert? I've never been to Texas! So, after that major slip of my mind, I realized that Kellogg's didn't make Rice Krispies in 1812, so I went to the Jane Austen Cookbook. Little iced cakes or apple puffs would be awfully good alternatives, I think.

I'd love to see us get to page 4 before quittin' time.

I'll do what I can, of course.

I barely saw the two cats I'm housesitting last night. Spent maybe 2 minutes with one before she scampered off. The other dashed in and out of the TV room so fast, I was wondering if she was being chased.
Oh, well.

Both sound delicious. Little iced cakes almost sounds romantic. Apple puffs on the other hand sound funny, IMHO :)

Yes, we are, DR Jane. It hung for years over the piano in Richard's parents' home. When Harriet was getting ready to move to the retirement community, she wanted us to have the piano, but said we had to take the painting, too. I asked if I had to hang it over the piano and she said, "No, just take good care of it." It hangs in our dining room.

I like your story of how you were given the painting :)

Well, it's 7:00 pm-ish and time for me to leave work. I'm going to my sister's. My niece called and asked if I wanted to come over. We were both on cell phones so I didn't quite hear why, but I did hear the word "dessert." :)
Be back later.
-
That's so cool, Ginny!
Thanks, DR George!

I just finished reading Belgrave Square, which is the 11th or 12th book in Anne Perry's Thomas & Charlotte Pitt mysteries, and, of those 11 or 12 books, it's the best; it's quite wonderful. She has great characters and plots, but too often I feel she just lets the endings go to hell. This one's quite nicely done.
I just went to Amazon to look at the readers' reviews, and a lot of them agreed with me. About halfway through the book I guessed the scandal, if not the murderer, and a really good scandal it was.
And so to bed. I must head down to Toyland tomorrow morning;

I used to wear Hush Puppies, BW (Before Wheelchair). They don't look like puppies, but my sister used to call them my Raggity Andy shoes because they had kind of blunt toes. They were kind of ugly, but they were sure comfortable.

((((Elmore))))
Thank you, dear, for the hopes and god wishes!
At present, I have absolutely no commitment at present with either the foundation or the university, I don't even know if I want anything to develop. After the behavior of the men in charge of both foundations I've worked for, I'm very ambivalent. At present, I'm just metaphorically throwing pasta against the wall and seeing if anything sticks
Be careful not to use too much metaphorical marinara on that pasta.

What is a London burger?
-
Page four? Really?
-
Is this a joke? Yes, we shall laugh in the car.
-
Who would be deleting photos from Photobucket of all places? How would they even do that? I don't do Photobucket at all so it ain't me.
-
I should think we'd best have a frenzy or three.
-
Did a mile and a half jog and watched part one of Lars Von Triers' Nymphomaniac.

The Seattle Mariners!
-
And we beat Detroit 7 to 2.
-

You are about half an hour from where we lived. I have skied on Mt. Brighton and I recall Brighton is a cute little town. It is very likely you have well water there. Our first Michigan home had well water. It was the 2nd of three homes we have had with well water, and all three tasted different. Our first experience, in Pennsylvania, the water was delicious.
The Tigers are playing the Seattle Mariners tonight so I hope the Tigers win.
Have fun at the reunion.
Why? You don't live in Detroit. And I have never heard you say that you even like baseball.

since we got home I have been trying to set up the IPAD

whichi s why I haven't beenhere

Elmore I am sorry your beloved therapist has moved away but pleased you were able to see her on last time
-
My advice on the college (which REALLY sounds like it should be Florida) and the Foundation is
don't burn your bridges
-
Or as my Nana used to say don't burn your britches
-
That is a fantastic painting, DR Ginny!
-
also good advice,
-
especially if you are wearing them at the time
-
Creature from the Black Lagoon was great!
-
Ginny I love your painting, wonderful story about how you received it
Generous of you to lend it
-
Ben it is very generous of you to gift your brother with your beloved radio
-
Vixmom, I guess I can wish you a Happy Birthday now!
-
What did you have to set up on the ipad?
-
Just wrote the first half of the Kritzerland commentary, so that's a good start. And I moved a couple of songs around, too. We have added the matinee performance.
-
I am glad you added the matinee.
-
Thinking about eating something light, but there really isn't anything light to be had here. Hmmm.
-
I suppose I could go get a Subway club but that's too much this late.
-
I guess I could go to Gelson's and get something, but that kind of makes me nauseous even thinking about it.
-
Went to a fun local production of "Smokey Joe's Cafe." Most of the voices were excellent, some decent choreography and it's all nothing but an evening of Lieber and Stoller songs. I missed having a story. My friend did not. She loved all of the songs.
-
Had some cheese and crackers and that was fine.
-
Uh oh - very slow loading right now - may have to contact our web host.

My sister's boyfriend got this e-mail forwarded to him...it's pretty funny!
A.A.A.D.D.- KNOW THE SYMPTOMS!
Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder.
Age-Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests:
I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway,
I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage,
I notice mail on the porch table that
I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys on the table,
Put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, And notice that the can is full.
So, I decide to put the bills back
On the table and take out the garbage first...
But then I think,
Since I'm going to be near the mailbox
When I take out the garbage anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table,
And see that there is only one check left.
My extra checks are in my desk in the study, So I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Pepsi I'd been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks,
But first I need to push the Pepsi aside So that I don't accidentally knock it over.
The Pepsi is getting warm,
And I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Pepsi, A vase of flowers on the counter Catches my eye--they need water.
I put the Pepsi on the counter and
Discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.
I decide I better put them back on my desk, But first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter , Fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.
I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote, But I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, So I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, But first I'll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers,
But quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back on the table, Get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to
Remember what I was planning to do.
At the end of the day:
The car isn't washed,
The bills aren't paid,
There is a warm can of
Pepsi sitting on the counter,
The flowers don't have enough water,
There is still only 1 check in my check book, I can't find the remote, I can't find my glasses, And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, And I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem,
And I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....
Do me a favour.
Forward this message to everyone you know, Because I don't remember who I've sent it to.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!
P.S. I don't remember who sent it to me, so if it was you, thanks a lot.

Finished the second episode of Sherlock Holmes and started "The Wolf of Wall Street," which might be a decent movie. I wouldn't know. I don't care about anything that's happening or any of the characters.

I have no interest in watching this movie. Just not my cuppa. :P

Quite a few years ago, there was a non-equity national tour that came to the Washington Center for the Performing Arts, and I worked backstage with the wardrobe people as an "over-hire." I think that that's what locals are called when hired for tours. Anyway, the other cast members said that the woman playing the DeLee Lively track was quite the diva...that she had "attitude for days." I remember that quote. She had talent, but not enough to justify her antics. ::)
