Title: OPENMEAL
Post by: bk on August 16, 2014, 12:07:55 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of openmeal, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating the dreaded steel cut openmeal.

I have had this tune running through my brain for the past couple of days. I knew it was the theme song for a television show, but just couldn't place it.

Then, a minute ago, it finally came to me.

It was...

Murder She Wrote!

I guess I don't know much about the process of producing oatmeal. I mean, why can't they cut it with plastic, or teflon, or copper? Why is steel so special?

Good morning, all! Around 2:00am i woke up and it took me forever to get back to sleep. Before the alarm rang at 6:45, my last dream took place in Oxford, OH.around 1970. but everyone in the dream was a friend from New York from 2014. It had something to do with my friend Sara Jean Ford wanting to attend a musical theatre conference over two days. The conference took place in the Miami University Theatre green room, and Rob Berman and Greg Jarrett, who played piano for our NYC ROBERTA rehearsals, were on the panel.

I will shortly head down to Toyland. I will begin scanning JUBILEE Act Two again and hopefully do it right this morning.  I believe our DR ChasSmith is coming in to visit, and I look forward to that.

Thank you to DRs ChasSmith and Vixmom for the comments about the painting.  As for generosity, DR Vixmom, most of the works in the exhibit are owned by the Middletown Historical Society and MidPointe (Middletown Public) Library.  The next most "generous" is a farmer from nearby Germantown, OH, whose name was on at least 20 of the pieces.  He was at the reception, as was the nephew of the artist.

I just finished reading Belgrave Square, which is the 11th or 12th book in Anne Perry's Thomas & Charlotte Pitt mysteries, and, of those 11 or 12 books, it's the best;

I recently read "The Cater Street Hangman" and was delighted with it.  I have the 2nd book on my library queue.  With a total of 30 books in the series there is much reading ahead of us ;)

After that, I'm going to a paper-tech (no actors) rehearsal for "An Improbably Peck of Plays 3D," Theater Artists Olympia's newest show.  I'm running the sound board (I think I've become the go-to sound board guy).  It's the third year for the evening of one-acts, and it's become an annual tradition.  We open on Thursday but I actually can't be there on Friday.  I have a union meeting that's been scheduled for several months.  But it should be okay.  One of the directors is a stage manager and has stage managed several shows that I've run sound for, so she's able to run it the one night and is more than capable.

From DR TCB:
Quote
Why?  You don't live in Detroit.  And I have never heard you say that you even like baseball.

Actually I love baseball.  It is Keith who isn't interested.  My father used to take me to the Dodgers games and one of the highlights of my childhood was when he took me to see Sandy Koufax pitch in the World Series.

The last time I was in Pennsylvania I went with Craig and my friends to a Phillies game.  I admit, just barely, because of Craig I am a Phillies fan over a Dodger fan even if I don't watch the games.  I miss going to them.

We lived in Michigan twice and it was difficult not to become a Tiger's fan.  One of Craig's friends lived next door to Alan Trammell and he would play catch with them sometimes.  He was a nice guy.

I really need to wash the pool water out of my hair.  I had a great swim.  I'm becoming rather possessive of the single lane.  As I was walking up to the pool the person in it got out.  I greatly appreciate how often I get that lane, as if the people know they must leave so I can have it.

DR George, I am hoping you can help me with an iTunes dilemma on my Mac: I ued to be able to dwnload album covers for my CDs through a portal on the lower left hand corner of the iTunes screen. That feature seems to have vanished on later iTunes updates. Is that still a possibility? What do I do?

Larry, I don't have a Mac, so I don't know if there are any differences between the Mac and PC versions.  And I'm not home, so that's not helpful, either.  I know that I've manually added CD images from other sources, but I haven't downloaded them through iTunes.  If anyone can be more helpful until I get home (assuming that I can help at all), please do so. :)

I finished the commentary, which I'm sure I'll be finessing.  I guess I'll jog now and then it does appear that I'll be going to see a cabaret show tonight over at the Gardenia.  I also watched Nymphomaniac 2 - ultimately I'm not sure I care about either part, but I will say that even though I saw the ending coming because I figured that's what the writer/director would do, I hated it with every fibre of my being because it was such a cheap way out and because if he'd actually ended nicely that would have actually been something positive for all characters.  But I'm sure that that was his point - but I'm bored of this guy's nihilism.  I cannot recommend to anyone, really - it's very explicit (and fake) and in the end it's just dreary.

Speaking of vacations, I've spent the last few weeks doing a lot of those pain-in-the-tush kind of things, including a trip to the DMV, which actually went pretty smoothly, given one's low expectations. Still lots of inefficiency, but could have been much worse. I'm attempting to take next week as staycation, with a facial planned, among other things. We'll see how it goes. I have a hunch a number of must-do things will creep (not the kind with blueberries and strawberries) in. I find staycations very helpful when I've been overly scheduled.

Well, I read it as something like taking your sled to get your pedicure. One is entitled to a bit of poetic license.

I tried out a new acupuncturist today. My old one is showing signs of burn-out and is also difficult to schedule with these days. I don't like the new one quite as well, but she's much closer and much cheaper. I shall give her a try.

So glad I'm not alone on this - there are many who justify Von Trier's ending to the Nymphomaniac movies and I sort of get it, but I found it nauseating and that it made hash of everything that came before.  Below is one critic on the ending:

"But then – and here I breathe a rather heavy sigh – Von Trier just couldn’t let well enough alone. The final 90 seconds of film betray everything that came before it. And not in a way that makes logical sense within the film’s context. The characters just suddenly behave completely out of character, and the gentle, well-earned ending is stepped on. After four hours of rough, dark psychological analysis and eventual hints at empathy and even redemption, Von Trier – possibly because he just can’t help himself – raises a big middle finger to the audience. I don’t want to reveal what happens, but the final scene is enough to enrage."

I left my latest mystery at Toyland, so tomorrow, first thing, I will head back down there and pick it up. I'll schlep home a few more things as well, but if I head down around 8:30, I can be home before noon.

Tonight I watched a British comedy I'd never seen, Splitting Heirs written by Eric Idle. It reminded me of a raunchier version of Kind Hearts and Coronets, and I laughed myself silly. So . . . to bed.

Today's rehearsal of "An Improbable Peck of Plays 3D" was really just a cue-to-cue.  Michael, the sound and lighting designer was still putting things into the computer program and we just sat around talking through the cues.  Actually, they talked through the cues.  I just sat there the whole time.  And no actual acting happened and no actors were present.

I didn't mind being there, and I pretty much assumed that that's what was going to happen, anyway.  Tomorrow, things will different.  It'll be a real tech rehearsal, but actors will be present and we'll go through all the one-acts...at least, that's what I was told would happen.
