Well, you've read the notes, the notes prayed for Rosemary's Baby for naught, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently watching the MOOniseries of RoseMOOry's Baby.
-
And the word of the day is: DEMESNE!
-
Topic of the Day: Andromeda Strain (the TV series). I didn't even watch much of it, but it was not good at all.
-
I remember seeing the commercials for the remake of "Rosemary's Baby," and I like the actor who plays the husband (but not enough to watch the movie). He's on "Suits," which I also like.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all.
Up an hour or so too early, but I'll try to grab a nap later. That will be important, as tonight's a rehearsal night.
-
Good morning, all! I slept well, and i will soon leave for physical therapy.
I could tell from the TV ads that the remake of "Rosemary's Baby" was going to be a stinker. Why bother? I catch enough TV stinkers unaware.
On a happier note, I was notified by a friend that the "Roberta" recording is now up for pre-order on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Roberta-Jerome-Kern/dp/B00MTZWDPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408447571&sr=8-1&keywords=kern+roberta
DR TCB, I saw your vicious and cruel remark after I had dropped off the site last night. Although I understand your jealousy and respect my elders, I would send you a bitchslap by USPS, but given their track record here, your chances of receiving it are small.
-
Howdy, Folks!
-
More coffee!

And I'm enjoying the two versions of the Time Warner commercial for Direct TV featuring the stars of SUITS! (the one with the two male stars taking a deposition with the Time Warner representative) Even more fun to see how they take much of the same footage and make two different-feeling ads out of it.

the same for me. with all the changes i read about i didn't bother. the original for was perfect.

good morning to all

Finally some good news
I start back to work tomorrow
No surgeries needed on my knee and shoulder.
Just the thyroid for the moment (results still to come)
-
following up from yesterday
after doing some further reading about iTunes 11
They did away with the image of the album cover in the lower left corner.
Glad Larry was able to rectify his image problem.
-
As for the genre problem
I used to change the information to my liking (Composers, Artists, Genre etc) and then upload the information back to iTunes. It doesn't look like you can do that anymore
-
Good morning,all.
Great news, DR Mike. And continued vibes for your thyroid procedure.
-
TOD:
The Andrew Davies version of A Room With a View, complete with inane added ending that dragged World War I into the tender love story. Stick with the Merchant-Ivory version, one of the best adaptations I've ever seen.
-
Elmore, will preorder after work.
-
TOD:
I'm going to answer this question in reverse.
What book was vastly improved in it's film version?
L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, possibly the best movie to come out of Hollywood in the last 20 years.
After I saw the film, I read the book...and it was terrible.
The screenwriters certainly deserved the Oscar they won, but the film should have also taken the Best Picture award over TITANIC.
-
Finally some good news
I start back to work tomorrow
No surgeries needed on my knee and shoulder.
Huzzah! :)
-
Up and back from the dentist after too little sleep.
Since the area is so sore, they decided to postpone the prep for the crown until it has settled down, for which I was quite grateful. But the area is less sore today, and nothing else appears to be wrong, so that's good.
-
Pain free vibes for DR SINGDAW.
Continued health vibes for DR MIKE.
We are waiting on pins and needles for news from DR CILLA LIZ!!! The planets are in good order, there may be a couple of other hoops to jump through and be prepared if someone claims they didn't "have time" to get everything together....they did and it will not be allowed.
-
TOD:
The television mini series of VALLEY OF THE DOLLS and the theatrical version of THE LOVE MACHINE.....as bad as the books were, at least they were better than those two versions.
-
It is nice to have a movie version of ATLAS SHRUGGED - Part Three comes out in September - but the low budget did some harm....and in the novel, the leading lady gives up a diamond bracelet for a bracelet of Reardon steel.....in the movie, she gives up a diamond necklace.....why change an iconic exchange?
-
Congrats to DR ELMORE on the pre-release of his CD!
-
Thanks for the info about the photo MR BK.
-
And the word of the day is: DEMESNE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND

Thanks JRand. There are a total of seven applicants. I did a quick google and the 6 other applicants all applied for the last opening for this position and none of them got it. That doesn't mean they aren't competition, they are, but that's ok. The next hoop is an interview on the 29th at 10 am

I think that I may be the only person in the world who has not seen the film ROSEMARY'S BABY.
-
On the other hand, last night I watched a nifty film titled UNDERWORLD STORY (1950) starring Dan Duryea and Gale Storm (an odd pairing, if ever there was one).
-
You are not, DR MBarnum.
-
Good morning. I checked the weather radar before I left the house this morning. There was no storm activity anywhere around. Something popped up, and I hiked in the rain. Luckily, the biggest part of the storm missed me, but the northern parts of the city are flooded.
-
DR Laura - it figures that it would only rain when you are trying to do something outside.
-
DR Laura - your approach to telemarketers is the one which I will now appropriate for my own use. Thank you!!

MOUTH HEALING VIBES ALREADY FOR DR SINGDAW!

I think that I may be the only person in the world who has not seen the film ROSEMARY'S BABY.
I wish I hadn't.

Back to working outside.

Good news worth coming home from therapy to read! Fantastic!
-
DR MBarnum and DR Laura: Get thee hence to a place of procurement and find "Rosemary's Baby", obtain it and view it.
It is one of the GREAT CINEMATIC EXPERIENCES YOU WILL EVER HAVE!
-
A whole hour and some minutes since my last post!!!
-
I, on the other hand, am up - TEN glorious hours of sleep. My head hit the pillow last night and I was out.
-
I've been trying to formulate a reply to DR MBarnum's admission he has never seen Rosemary's Baby! I'm still speechless. It's too bad it didn't star Steve Reeves or Reg Parks. But then it would have gone from the A-list to the D-list of films.

If it had been "The Attack of Rosemary's Baby" or "Rosemary's 50-Foot Baby", he'd have been all over it many times.

Looking forward to getting this
But have three questions about the songs.
1) From what I know about Roberta I thought Clemintina was dropped from the show before it opened. So why is this song in the show and not an Appendix?
2) There is a song titled "You Inspire a Mad Desire" that was also dropped from the show. Wondering why it's not in the appendix of songs. Is this a "lost song" or an alternate title for another song?
3) Is Madrigal the same song as Alpha, Beta, Pi?
Thanks. Looking forward to hearing it

The original movie is one of my sister's favorite movies. She really disliked the mini-series. I REALLY enjoyed the musical version.
-
I don't like scary movies.

Great news, Mike.

Singdaw, last night I got a phone call. It went like this:
Me: "Hello?"
Campaign volunteer: "Hello. May I tell you about my candidate for governor -- Doug Ducey?"
Me: "No. You interrupted dinner time."
Click.

Another storm brewing!

Actually, it is not "brewing;" it is about to hit!

Don't believe everything you read.
1. "Clementina" was not cut; it was reduced to next to nothing and we recorded the complete original number.
2. If you know Roberta so well, you should know that "Alpha Beta Pi" is titled "Madrigal" on all previous recordings.
3. Nothing exists on "You Inspire A Mad Desire."

Let's get off this darned page.

I would think hiking in the rain would make you smile....or break into song and start dancing :)

I wouldn't want to be out in one of the BIG rains. But this was nice where I was.
We just had a nice HARD rain that lasted about 20 minutes.

Post deleted the photo was too big

Back from a sandwich and no fries or onion rings. More DVDs have left the premises. And more will be leaving later this week. I'm just in that place where I don't want this crap anymore.

Had amazing meatloaf for lunch today with some potatoes tossed in blue cheese crumbles. Very happy boy.

It's amazing how many idiots on the imdb and even some actual critics call this miniseries a basically faithful remake, but "reimagined."
It is about as unfaithful a remake as has ever been done. It is made up of nothing but add-ons by the terrible screenwriters. One terrible plot addition after another, one horrifically awful piece of dialogue after another. In the original novel, even though it's written in the third person, you never go away from Rosemary - it's all seen through her eyes, so you never have a scene with the Castevets in which she is not present. It's a device I am very fond of, and all of my novels are written that way - third person but always the through the lead character's eyes with no scenes taking place away from them that the character is not privy to. Writer's Block and Rewind are the obvious exceptions, but those both have conceits in the storytelling, which is why they are exceptions.

Sounds truly delicious, DR John G.
Are you sure it wasn't Salisbury Steak? 8)

Nope. Except I trust my server. Is that wrong of me?

I like Druxy's question. I was recently watching the British DCI BANKS. I was surprised to find that it was based on novels by Peter Robinson. I'd read him some years ago, but something about his style just rubbed me the wrong way. I quite liked the adaptations, though.
I really disliked the Caroline Graham mystery I read, but enjoyed many of the MIDSOMER MURDERS episodes. In this case, though, I knew exactly what I disliked about the books.

Jeanne was right and I should have just written our host immediately - at some point we just completely went down. Great news for DR Mike and better news for SloppyJoe.

It occurs to me that the miniseries of Rosemary's Baby played more like a remake of The Omen. One of the truly botched moments that actually survived from the Levin book and original film, and one of that film's best scenes, is where Rosemary is given the book Hutch left for her. Of course, in this film there IS no Hutch - she just happens to find the book in a secret passageway. Really? Note to screenwriters - you are not better than Ira Levin. In the original Hutch writes "The name is an anagram." Rosemary thinks he means the title of the book, All of Them Witches, but our brilliant new screenwriters just put the name is an anagram right next to the NAME of the person whose name is an anagram. And she figures THAT out in, oh, three seconds. Brilliant. Give these boys an EMMY for being the crassest, stupidest screenwriters EVER. In this version, Rosemary has a best girlfriend who just happens to live in Paris, too. She gets offed at some point (one might say she is the Hutch of this version - but not really), and her death is absolutely disgusting and now NBC gets to air violence like that (if this were a theatrical film it would be an R).
The scene in the original where Mia Farrow literally throws some raw liver in a frying pan, let's it sear for about four seconds and then eats it is shocking because it's fast and subtle and she sees her image reflected in her toaster and it nauseates her. In our new brilliant screenwriters version, she pulls the innards out of a turkey and stuffs just about all of them in her mouth vociferously without any attempt at even searing them - I mean, it's like Night of the Living Dead time. Then she gets ill. The reason the original works is because it is - and I know this is a word these brilliant screenwriters haven't learned yet - PLAUSIBLE. Everything in Levin's book and the film of it is PLAUSIBLE which is why it's so effective and has aged beautifully. NOTHING in the remake is PLAUSIBLE - not one BLOODY thing.
-
I'm not a big fan of scary movies, either, but I'm watching an extremely violent one called "Oldboy." It was made in Korea and earned the Quentin Tarantino seal of approval. Spike Lee even did a remake. But I've never seen the original, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's dubbed, which means it's unintentionally funny at times. The violence, however, is horrifying, so I'm not exactly "watching" all of it.

I have the best niece EVER!
The last time I went to visit she gave birth to my 2nd grand nephew... this visit she presents me with a grand niece, and they were both born on the 17th , the day after my birthday (which is alos her wedding anniversary!) - she said she was trying for my bd but labor ran too long both times....
Now how is THAT for a considerate niece?

Lyra (/ˈlaɪərə/; Latin for lyre, from Greek λύρα)[2] is a small constellation. It is one of 48 listed by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, and is one of the 88 constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its principal star, Vega (Abhijit in Sanskrit), a corner of the Summer Triangle, is one of the brightest stars in the sky. Beginning at the north, Lyra is bordered by Draco, Hercules, Vulpecula, and Cygnus.[3]
Lyra is visible from the northern hemisphere from spring through autumn, and nearly overhead, in temperate latitudes, during the summer months. From the southern hemisphere, it is visible low in the northern sky during the winter months.[citation needed]
