Good morning, all! I am going to make a very fast jaunt to Toyland this morning: I'll scan a couple of JUBILEE scores, toss a few CDs and maybe a book or tow int a bag and head back uptown. I need to refill my Metrocard and get some exercise, and this is as good a way as any. If I can catch a bus around 8:30, I can be back uptown by noon, and that would be dandy

DR George, I have never tried to read Ulysses, since a couple of looks into Finnegan's Wake nearly put me into a coma. I hope the gift brings your dad a lot of enjoyment.

DR vixmom, I hope all is healthy and well today with your family.

No, not really.  But gambling and Las Vegas as a setting or backdrop are a guilty pleasure, and even if I don't really like a particular movie or television show, I'll stop and watch it anyway.

All the usual suspects for me including the ones already mentioned, plus THE COOLER, the James Caan TV series LAS VEGAS, and Paul Thomas Anderson's HARD EIGHT.  I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Strange relationship with Joyce's Ulysses. Read it for the first time in high school. Didn't understand much of it, but loved the humor amid the sadness that I got from it. Read it again in my 20s and my 40s. Still don't know that I got it -- I can get too impatient with writing that dense -- but I enjoyed it a lot more both times. Brutal wit and dazzling writing, some of it too self-congratulatory, but fascinating. Will likely read it again in 10 years or so.

Never tried Finnigan's Wake.

My close personal friend Stephen Rea played Leopold Bloom in an adaptation of ULYSSES.

Greetings from Toyland!

I have a score to assemble and bind and some things to cart home.

Today, because the last mayor and his regime decided to screw up traffic and turn Broadway from 57th Street to 34th Street into a pedestrian mall, traffic was impossible. It took me 75 minutes to get here from the Upper West Side. My arrival is later than I desired but i must get to work

Here's my Throwback Thursday photo for today.  Dad took this picture of Mom and me on a 747, Rose Bowl bound in late December 1971.  After he took the photo and we ate dinner, he disappeared to the bar upstairs where he played the piano and people bought him drinks all the way to LAX.

Happy Thursday, all!

I know I've gone missing again, but I was in the midst of re-doing this staged reading of the vampire piece, and I didn't want to come in here and bitch about it, and that's all I was doing, trust me.  :D I kept telling myself - they're paying you, they're paying you.  ::)

I just know that the piece can't really go anywhere. The composer passed, sadly, and the rewrites for my character after that made little sense. I came in as Batman and spent the rest of the show as Woody Allen... with fangs. The book writer is lovely, but can't do this alone.

Anyhoo, it's all blood under the bridge now.  :D  Time to concentrate on the Kritzerland Anniversary show and some auditions hopefully.

I hope everyone has been having a lovely week!

I got most of the CD tsuris out of the way, and the booklet for ROBERTA arrived to be proofed. I just finished that.

I'm ready for bed and it's only 8:15.

It's all in the hands of the Man from Philadelphia. I won't believe things are fine until i am holding the blasted CD in my hands.

I think I really must begin unfollowing everyone on Facebook or just stop reading and use it for what I use it for - announcements.  Because I am sick to death of people and their crusades and politics and bull pucky.  The latest thing is to find or "share" really old news stories of police violence and post as if it had happened NOW.  That is disgusting.  And amusingly, in every instance of it, because people just mindlessly and obediently "share" this crap without even READING it, if you Google the actual stories what you find in almost 90% of the reportage is the INITIAL report before any facts are in.  And wouldn't you think that on Google there would be follow-up reports showing the results of investigations and/or trials?  Because, funnily there aren't.  Not in 90% of the instances I've researched.  Funny that.

I have not seen the act with Beverly Carlton, so I don't know if he does his song or not.

Tonight's opening night performance went well.  We had a very small audience...two paying patrons, two comped patrons and three of the directors.
