I hope folks will not take this as a criticism, because I do not mean it as such. But I am curious about something. I notice quite that quite a few fellow DRs are writing "lightening" when referring to a meteorological event.
I had always thought that it was "thunder and lightning," but "I am lightening the color of my jeans by adding bleach to the wash."
Perhaps it is a regional thing?

Hoping to start catching up on the weekend. One unusual thing about the September 15 - October 15 tax season at this place is that while we will put in more hours on a regular weekday, weekend work seems not to be expected. This is very different from other places I've been.

Good morning, all! The ghosts were in a frenzy last night: about 11:15 or so my computer turned on, and twice, in about the period of an hour, I felt that someone was pushing my legs, perhaps to force me out of bed. That was followed by a very sleepless night and i am quite groggy at the moment.

And the word of the day is: PUISSANCE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: THE POWER OF LOVE

DR elmore3003 - it seems as if your next physical therapist is a ghost!

And I find online that I am overdrawn by $400 for two unauthorized debit card charges. So, I'm off to the bank to fight this mess. I knew there was some weird hankypanky going on with this computer. So, I now have no debit card for 4-7 days, which is bad but it's worse that I have no access to whatever small amount of mney I have in the bank, thanks to these damned crooks.

Good morning.

Elmore, I hope your debit disaster is quickly solved.

Guilty!

In my case it is not regional; it is stupidity.

Good morning, all.
Slept in a bit, which was desperately needed, but at the expense of back and neck aches which are beginning to subside.
Coffee! And plenty of it!

Debit resolution vibes to Larry!!!

Debit Disaster Be Gone vibes to DR Elmore!

Good morning, all.
Financial vibes for Elmore.
Kerry, I love me some Brave Combo. Best punk polka band I've ever seen. Their cha-cha version of "O Holy Night" is a permanent fixture on my iTunes.

The new Fosse bio says that Stanley Donen found Gwen Verdon ugly and his way of dealing with that was to shoot as few closeups of her as possible and try to get the camera far away when she wasn't dancing. I need to go back and watch the movie again with that thought in mind. (I always thought she was the best thing in the movie.)

I think we all need to watch the movie now. I haven't seen it in years.

I was over to my bank branch for an hour. These asses made about five charges to my debit card, but only two were posted, in total of $488.00. The bank has issued a new debit card and given me the name of the company that placed the charges. I just spoke to them and they are issuing credit.
Do I think the nightmare is over? Not by a long shot.

Friday morning greetings! I've been up for 4 hours and all I have to show for it is sliced strawberries for breakfast, pre-baked pizza crusts for dinner, and a shower. Must get some AAUW work done today in preparation for Monday's board meeting.

Well I enjoy the movie DAMN YANKEES, and I have directed/choreographed it once....it's always a lot of fun, if you can get enough men for the show.
I don't like Ray Walston either....in ANYTHING....he annoys me so much - as he did in his tv show MY FAVORITE MARTIAN - I can't watch SOUTH PACIFIC because of him.
THEN he did a great job in a film version of OF MICE AND MEN which I liked....but I can't really watch anything else he is in.

In my case, I have a keyboard that sticks on O, so often I will end up with "to" when I thought i had typed "too." Some of it is auto-crrect, that only seems to care that the word is correctly spelled whether it makes sense or not, and some of it, I regret to say, is poor education.

I hated him in "South Pacific" for years and years. Then I saw "the roadshow version"...and found him rather charming....they cut all the nuance out of his performance and left all the ham on the theatrical "cut" (when they shortened the heck out of it). He's far more tolerable, IMO, in the roadshow version.
Just sayin', in case you haven't watched that version...

Yep! It's got my O problems all over those posts!
I notice a lot of "there" when posters mean "their," "your" for "you're" and some of it comes from a poor education. I'm truly appalled to find the nominative case used instead of objective in scripts and in broadcast news; I like to think the writers are educated, although God knows many of the speakers are not.
It won't even begin on transitive and intransitive verbs.

I do not believe most folks are minding their p's and q's when posting to this forum...or anywhere else on the internet. We're just pounding out "stream-of-consciousness" thoughts based on something we've read, something that is being discussed, or -- in the case of one Hainsie-Kimlet -- things extracted from the whims of his imagination. That's not a criticism, by the way, DR soremaw.
Most of us probably get it right, more often than not, and don't bother to proofread before we post. I often do this and later correct some typo or dyslexic something-or-other.

He was one of Pauline Kael's least favorite performers and she penned some deliciously awful reviews of his work. He personified everything she hated about Broadway artificiality.

Anyway, I really won't have time to watch it this weekend, until maybe Sunday afternoon. I have a union meeting tonight, then I must hurry down to the theater for the end of "An Improbable Peck of Plays 3D," so that I can pick up the money from any ticket sales. Tomorrow, I have to help my sister with some stuff before the show, and on Sunday, I'm working concessions for the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. We have no show at all this Sunday, so after working concessions, I should have time to watch the new "Doctor Who" season premiere and "Johnny X."

Elmore, listening to Songs of New York at work. Love the Joseph Papp version of Please Don't Monkey With Broadway. Forgot he'd recorded it.
I had to do that chart at the last minute, since Papp wouldn't commit. I think we had nearly finished the sessions when he agreed to do it and that I was never paid for the chart since the money was pretty much gone by then.
My memory is that he committed on Thursday, McGlinn rehearsed with Stanley Silverman on Friday since Joe was out of town and they set the key. I scored it on Saturday, Stanley Silverman called McGlinn and suggested it be copied up or down one-half step (I forget now), which I did. On Monday, Papp showed up like a mafia don surrounded by a lot of yesmen, was very unpleasant to one and all, we did several takes and then he decided it was too high or too low and the musicians had to sightread it in the key I originally wrote it. In the instrumental break there's a missing chromatic piano line because the pianist couldn't figure it out fast enough and Papp was unpleasant and impatient. He was a complete pig.
I think Judy Sherman told me later that there were around 40 splices on that track to make him sound as good as he does. Thank you, Stanley and Joe!
I do like my chart, though.
-
Isn't that how they got Renee Zellweger and Marlon Brando to sing? Splicing it all together?
-
Four!

I hope that wasn't a TALL TALE in keeping with today's theme, DR Elmore -- because it's a helluva story! :)

I had worked at the Drama Book Shop with a play reader for the Public theatre, and she thought Joe Papp was god. I was looking forward to meeting him, and hoping he'd like the chart and ask me to work on a show at the Public. He was a pig to everyone, although he told me he liked my chart, and I never heard from him again.

For a day and a half every time I tried to access Gmail I received the error message screen that says that the server was having problems and that's all they know. That's a long time for a server to be down. Then, this morning, I clicked on an old Google link and Whoa! It wasn't down at all!! ARRRGGHHH! I know what happened, but Google really ought to give accurate error messages! Damn programmers!

Sorry Jeanne. We haven't had any problems with gmail.

Bruce, I know you didn't think much of the American version of THE KILLING. I think you'd like this. The characters are all flawed, but come across stronger somehow. I'd be interested in your take.
BTW, one of the actresses had a familiar voice and mouth. Who is that? Then it dawned on me. I'm used to her in a very different context. Many DRs will know her, too.

DR Jeanne, I used to have those tests when I was on Coumadin and, yes, my doctor tried to get me a home testing device. The geniuses at the insurance company wouldn't approve paying for it, though. When I switched from Coumadin to Xarelto last winter, they told me I don't need the tests anymore and there are no dietary restrictions.

He was one of Pauline Kael's least favorite performers and she penned some deliciously awful reviews of his work. He personified everything she hated about Broadway artificiality.
I recall that, when I was doing my book on musicals, I interviewed him for the DAMN YANKEES chapter...and he didn't seem to be that friendly.

I remember seeing (when I was a kid) the national company of DAMN YANKEES at the Moore Theater in Seattle.
Burlesque comic Bobby Clark played Applegate.

Isn't that how they got Renee Zellweger and Marlon Brando to sing? Splicing it all together?
What song did they sing together?

Larry, sorry to hear about the identity theft. It's always so galling! I hope it's resolved quickly and without any more inconvenience.
I hadn't thought any further than the credit card thefy. If they want the rest of my lousy life, I hope it brings them the same joy it's brought me for the last year.
I had a scare tonight: I thought my Mac, which is due to be replaced, had finally died, and i was wondering how fast turning on the gas would take to finish me off.
This run of shitty luck has got to end before it kills me.
Elmore, whenever life gets you down, remember you always have MBarnum.
Seriously, you have lot of people who care a great deal about you!

Nic pic DR TCB! Is your sister much older than you are or did she have children young?
Not really. My sister is three years older. She was, I think, 22 when my niece was born. My niece turns 44 in November.

I would still rather see Ray Walston in the role, than Jerry Lewis.

Finished with my viewing for the evening. I did end up doing a jog.

Just watched a rather tired Esther Williams flick called "On an Island With You." Best part of it was a dance Cyd Charisse had with Ricardo Montalban.

Good night, all.
