Well, you've read the notes, the notes were pleasant, and now it is time for you to post until the pleasant cows come home.

DR George, these are shaped like traditional pillows, not those weird-looking little flat things.  In case you go looking for them, they're called "Pure Comfort Gel-Memory Foam Classic Pillows", and they were in a sale bin near the front of the store.  Let's see how the next couple of nights go, but I'm very tempted to pick up another pair.

Well, I didn't get to Costco, so I may try today.  I have to work concessions for a "children's choral music recital" of Songs for a New World.  The music director is a friend of mine.  He's a good music director, so it should be pretty good...if he's featuring his better students.  We'll see. ;)

And speaking of pillows, Jeanne wrote:

George, memory foam packs down rather quickly, in my experience. There are lots of types of memory foam, though, and I'm sure some are better quality than others. The pillow I'm using currently is foam, but not memory foam, and it's holding up very well indeed. I think I bought it at Kohl's for $25 or $30. The Sleep Number stores have an interesting assortment of quality pillows--not Costco prices, but nice pillows.

Happy slumber!

Thanks for the info, Jeanne!  I looked at Kohl's website and they have a LOT of pillows on sale right now.  I'll check to see if their local store has the same sale prices.  Some of them said "on-line only."  But I'd want to try them out in person anyway.  I wouldn't buy any pillow without feeling it a bit.

My seasonal fall allergy reaction is so severe this year that I'm actually contemplating going to an allergist and getting the shots - I believe a full treatment takes over a year. Has anyone here done this, and does it actually work? This suffering makes me want to believe that somewhere there is some relief.

Good morning, all! Today, the depression won and I couldn't get out of bed when the alarm rang.  I forced myself out of bed around 9:30. I did not get to Toyland as I wanted, so I'll go on Tuesday.

I'll finish up the Moross work, send off an invoice, and try to keep myself occupied. I hate this situation.

So sorry to her this, Elmore.  Have you seen the 100 Foot Journey?   Maybe it would be a good day to go see an upbeat movie.  I know that doesn't cure or fix anything, but it can't hurt.

As soon as cost cutters opens I'm going to get my hair cut.  Then I think I should have everything I need for the interviews this week.  I could use a new pair of shoes.  My practice has been very casual, so I've really had to work on getting the wardrobe in shape for what's coming this week

I would love to see a movie, but I have only so much money in my pocket until September 2, and I cannot spend it on a movie ticket or ice cream. If this banking-debit card situation is not resolved by next Friday, that means that when my pension arrives in my checking account, I'll lose 2/3 of it on this $400 overdraft. I'm not poor at the moment; I am penniless.

Much as I have faith that the credit will come through on these fraudulent charges and all will be well, I can't count those chickens yet.

Sunday afternoon greetings!  Fr. Richard excused me from Lima today so that I can go to a girlfriends' tea party in Cincinnati with one or two of my Middletown friends this afternoon.  Good thing I wasn't with Richard, because at about the time we'd be arriving at church I experienced one of my epic nosebleeds that took almost an hour to subside.  Paramedic Rob was here and made sure I was OK before he and Mary Linda left for their church.  I had breakfast, then took it easy while finishing my book group book for September.  Gotta get myself in gear now...

I'm not a fan of them either.  When I first began using the pool at the Y I found the hot whirlpool tub therapeutic for my shoulder and body but I had to be extremely careful getting out as I was always dizzy.  I stopped using it as soon as possible.

Sing, I'm sorry to hear about your allergies. I haven't had allergy shots, but would suggest you try something that would provide relief sooner. If you were still in the NYC area I'd suggest you go to Willner Chemists. They have a NY Mix, specifically for the pollens in that area. Since you are now in Minnesota, I'd recommend

--vitamin C, stinging nettles, quercetin, and MSM, as noted in PRESCRIPTION FOR NATURAL CURES by Balch and Stengler, a reference I use often

--a homeopathic approach, with or without the above. If you don't have a homeopath in your area you could try Lia Bello, who was very helpful with a friend's son's issues. Her prices are reasonable and she treats over the phone. (She's in Santa Fe, NM)

http://www.homeopathicare.org/

There are also a number of combination remedies available at health food stores. Some of these can be quite helpful and are inexpensive (under $10), but you have to find the one that works for you.

I went to an allergist for a while, but he prescribed three prescription drugs, one of which was a steroid, and I can't say I felt any better. I did, however, have uncomfortable side effects. I then switched to homeopathy, which was more effective and had zero side effects.

Hope you find relief soon!

Had a chili, cheese and onion omelet, began liner notes, and then have two more episodes of Happy Valley and am just starting episode five.  It's really good - I keep fretting that they'll take the cliche way of things in certain plot points, but they haven't - especially at the end of episode four - if this were an American show I know exactly what they would have done and I would have hurled my shoe at the TV - but thankfully they did the absolutely right thing.

DR Singdaw supposedly eating local honey helps with allergies to the local pollen.    Since I am mildly allergic to honey I can't eat enough to find out if that works.

When I was 20 I worked for an allergist and saw some major improvements in how people felt between their first visits and after a few months of treatment.  The doctor talked to me about my food allergies but never tested or treated me.

New Jersey & Pennsylvania were the worst places for my allergies.  By the time we left PA & moved to Michigan I suffered constantly and went to an allergist.  Since Bryan's allergies got worse about then, including developing asthma. he went with me.

After testing we both began getting shots.  The dosage is supposed to gradually increase until you reach maintenance, something I never reached due to mild reactions.  I don't think Bryan did either.  The doctor alternated arms for the shots and every time Bryan got little bumps where the shot went.

The doctor had one strict rule, we had to sit in the office for 20 minutes following the shot, something both Bryan & I scorned & complained about to each other every visit.  One day I got my shot, walked out to the the waiting room and sat down.  Immediately the palms of my hands began to itch.  Having food allergies I knew exactly what was happening and told the nurse who called the doctor.  They gave me a Benadrly.  As I sat down in the waiting room again I had trouble breathing and went right back.  This time I received a shot of adrenalin.  Once I was home I had to take another Benadryl which put me to sleep for 2 days-not fun.

When we moved to Connecticut we went to a new allergist who said each move requires new testing and suggested we keep track of our symptoms and how we felt before doing the testing.  A few weeks later Bryan and I both agreed we weren't bad enough anymore to need shots.  I believe they made a difference and were the reason we didn't need them anymore.

I took allergy shots for 3 1/2 years. I believe some of my medical problems, especially my high blood sugar, were caused by them. After all that time, my severe allergy to grass went from a 5++, on a scale of 1 to 5, down to a 5+. Nothing else changed. So, I stopped them.

I do take local raw honey and it has helped, but it takes several weeks before I noticed any change. I don't like the flavor of honey, so this is a bit of a chore.

You don't want to be thinking your feet hurt during the interview.

DR Singdaw supposedly eating local honey helps with allergies to the local pollen.    Since I am mildly allergic to honey I can't eat enough to find out if that works.

Eating local honey sounds like a title for something or other.   Like Finding Neverland or Saving Mr. Banks or Being Julia.

LOL, I've heard that it helps allergies too.  We have lots of local honey around here, they should have it around the Twin Cities too

DR SINGDAW the recipe from DR JEANNE is very good.....and if you want to start small, you can try a Stinging Nettles tea made directly from the herb....available in most natural herb stores...as it USED to be at World of Wisdom.

I've never tried Stinging Nettles tea. Does it taste good? Do you have to add lots of honey? I should keep it in mind.

I found it quite riveting. I'll watch anything Sally Wainwright wrote. It's a very well done production, too.

I once learned in a survival course that you can eat nettles if you boil it first.  We had a ton of it in the gully behind our house so I used to pick it and boil it.  It was good with a little butter and salt

And now, I'm off to work concessions for Songs for a New World.  After that, I'm going to my sister's for freshly made crepes and left-over birthday cake from my dad's birthday (I had to leave early because of the final rehearsal for "An Improbable Peck of Plays 3D").

Be back later!

Enjoy. Let us know how the performances are.

I'm home.  Songs for a New World was quite good!  My friend Troy directed and music directed and played the on-stage piano.  It was his "Kids in Koncert" youth choir and they put on a good show.  There were actually 14 kids (12 girls and 2 boys), up to 20 years of age.  The youngest looked maybe 10 or so.  The older singers really knew how to belt, and they sang quite well.  Overall, a very good production and I'm glad I went. :)

After the concert, I went to my sister's and she made some crepes.  They were very good, too.  I also got a piece of my dad's birthday cake (which I actually brought home and will have later).  It's one of those dump cakes where you just dump a can of orange slices and something else into a box cake mix, and bake it.  The frosting is Cool Whip and a can of pineapples and (I think) pudding mix.  After that, I went to Eagan's, a local hamburger joint for dinner.  The crepes were the only things that I'd had to eat all day, and they weren't enough.  I'm now home, ketchuping on posts and as soon as I'm done with that, I'm going to watch the season premiere of "Doctor Who."

I met Richard Attenborough when he was making DOCTOR DOLITTLE at Fox. One of my publicity clients (Muriel Landers) was playing his wife and I visited her on the set.

I asked her how she liked working with Attenborough. Apparently, he overheard me. He laughed, extended his hand, and said, "Oh, he's a bloody bastard."

 :)

Great story.

Starting to watch "The Book Thief." Really enjoying it so far, but I find it odd (and not in a bad way) that the Germans at certain points are speaking German and then they're speaking English.

Wasn't someone else talking about HAPPY VALLEY last week?

I knew that once I started watching "The Book Thief" that I would not be able to stop. An excellent adaptation of an even better book. I really don't understand some of the criticism this movie received.

The trip started with vixdad losing his cell phone going thrum the security point. Someone els must have taken his phone, whether by design or accident we do not know but we were unable to find it and calls to it went unanswered so we reported it stolen and had it disabeled

Our fight to Toronto did not take off until after e were supposed to arrive because thy only had one open runway for all flights.. However WestJet (which we had never flown before) kindly arranged to have our connecting flight held at the gate while we collected our luggage went through customs and rechecked the luggage

Our plan was to spend the afternoon visiting Vixdad's parents and then  go to dinner at our neices's home.  Just as we were leaving the hotel vixdad's sister called to say dad had fallen and the paramedic were on the way. So we rushed thre to find my SIL and BIL ther with the paramedics. Dad was loaded on a gurney and we all set off for the hospital where we ended up visiting in the emergency room... They decided to admit dad for tests. Mum stayed with SIL and BIL and we were sent packing to the nieces as we were told great preparations had been made and the niece was not to be disappointed

We did have a lovely visit. The nieces husband made steaks for us in the special French water cooking method, FJL. Skip will know the right name for it...the meat is sealed in air tight plastic and then held in allow temperature bath for 24 or more hours then finished with a quick sear on the grill.  The meat was beautifully tender and perfectly medium rare all the way through.  They also had made a Parmesan and artichoke hot dip with pita to dip and some home made cibatta bread with a oil and balsamic dipping sauce cease resale and lovely steamed newpotates

The word is dad did not break any bones but may be a little weak yet from his recent surgery. He came home rather sooner than the dr would have liked on his own insistence due to our impending visit.  So vibes appreciated

Watched three of the five The Fall episodes.  Very good.  Strange in certain ways, but that's not always a negative.
