Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a new deli in the San Fernando Valley, and now it is time for you to post until the San Fernando Valley cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VOUCHSAFE!
-
Love the videos BK.
-
Good!
-
Topic of the Day: I've never been to a "real" Jewish deli, so I can't comment. ::)
-
BK, is there any possibility of putting together a Kritzerland evening specifically that can be filmed (and sold to those of us who can't see your shows live)? Or would that require a whole lot more money because of music rights?
-
Yes, when you tape stuff to be sold it just opens a whole can o' worms.
-
Alright now I have to try Uncle Bernie's.
favorite Jewish deli food---- matzo ball soup fluffy and the size of baseballs! Pastrami and spicy brown mustard on fresh rye, blintzes, potato pancakes thick grated with warm chunky applesauce. chopped liver. pickled herring in sour cream, a New York egg cream and a little sliver of halvah.
And that is already overload :) At least I didn't say schmaltz on bread--a heart attack in the making!
The only Jewish food that isn't on the Surgeon General's warning list is cold borscht without the sour cream. That's our contribution to "health food".
-
I am curious what Jewish deli dishes that non-Jews like! And BAGELS are not allowed.
Hello to all here and MOO from the San Fernando Valley.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
good morning to all
-
tod
A sign of good jewish deli is the matzoh ball soup. I always have that and if its good the I know the rest of meal is good. I usually have a pastrami sandwich which is the closest to Montreal smoked meat I can get in the U.S of A.
-
BK
Didn't think of this question until this morning.
I know you did this with First Nudie Musical Blu Ray
But have you considered going the Kickstarter (or similar route) to produce a studio cast album of a show you always wanted to produced but were vetoed at Varese or the other label?
Perhaps a cast album of Li'l Abner?
-
DR lechienfou@sbcglobal.net's post just makes my mouth water! :)
But the only thing I think I can eat is latkes.
-
All three Kritzerland videos in today's notes were just extraordinary!!!! Thanks so much for sharing them, bk!
-
Good morning. I hope someday to get the speakers on my computer fixed. Then I can listen to the clips. Watching without speakers is not very exciting.
-
Good morning, all.
Looking forward to watching all of the videos. The only one I've had the chance to see was "You're Just in Love," which was wonderful. Whetted my appetite for more.
-
Got up early and made pumpkin pie cupcakes this morning. I hope they're anywhere near as good as the aroma.
-
TOD: The half-sours. I could eat those pickles for the whole meal, if I had to. The crunch, the salt, the freshness -- love it all.
Of course, a six-inch high pastrami sandwich alongside that pickle is a mighty fine thing, too.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late, and now I am going to watch the 9/11 events. Thirteen years ago seems only a moment.
-
TOD:
Corned Beef on Rye.
Matzo Ball Soup
-
Off tomorrow morning to McKinney, TX, for the Spirit of the Cowboy Festival. It's a 3+ hour drive.
I'll be there with Dan Haggerty and Bo Hopkins. They were both in CHEYENNE WARRIOR and it will be the first time I've seen them since we made the movie.
-
Good morning, all, on this 9/11.
-
Good morning. I hope someday to get the speakers on my computer fixed. Then I can listen to the clips. Watching without speakers is not very exciting.
But everybody moves very nicely!
-
That black hamburger looks disgusting.
-
DR Vixmom, vibes to your 3 co-workers. All of those stories are horrible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Last night we had no rehearsal, and it was heavenly lounging around, munching a little, libating a little, and seeing a couple of great movies.
I'm not watching it straight through because I did that not too long ago, but I did watch a few more scenes of THE GREAT RACE. While this movie and the memories it evokes are very special to me, I understand BK's and others' objections. I like Lemmon, but the film is too long and certain scenes and set pieces just go on forever -- not unlike IT'S A MAD MAD MAD MAD WORLD, two years prior. The thing that kills me every time, though, is the Blake Edwards element -- the large scale evocation of turn-of-the-century/silent-film routines, and comic timing that knows no equal.
The other movie was a revelation. I'd never seen OUT OF THE PAST. This one is perfection in every way.
These perfect high-def transfers can be had for a song (so clear your throat and sing in tune) from Warner Archives.
-
Enjoying the videos!
-
Oh -- I also listened to several tracks from THE SPIDER. This is some great music! I really have to get around to seeing it one of these days.
-
Let us quickly turn the page
-
to TWO!

OUT OF THE PAST is my favorite film noir.
THE GREAT RACE and IT'S A MAD (4) WORLD are okay. They both have their moments, but I was never a big fan of either.
I love the scene in MAD WORLD where Winters destroys the service station. Funniest scene in the movie.

Safe-travel vibes to Druxy.

TOD:
We have David's in San Francisco...as Jewish as a Jewish Deli as can be in the Bay Area, I reckon!
I love the reuben with kosher dills. I love the split pea soup. And I love the pastrami on rye.
-
I find "Those Magnificent Men...Flying Machines" much better than either "It's a Mad....World" or "The Great Race", although the humor in it isn't raucous. It's just a better movie, IMO.
All three films are good of kind.
-
That black hamburger looks disgusting.
Amen.

Smoked Meat -- I'm so home sick for Montreal! Dang it!
I don't usually care for Poutine, but could go for a bite now and then!
Have a good day Dear Readers!
Started a new job three weeks ago. It's all good -- for once, it's nice to be appreciated!

Congrats On The Posting Of The Selections From The 4th Anniversary Show. They Are Wonderful. The Only Regret I Have Was Not Being Able To Attend This Beautiful Event.

Love the videos.....especially "Namely You" - "Finishing the Hat" always makes me shed a tear or two.

DR VIXMOM I hope everyone is okay at your workplace this morning.
DR CILLA LIZ - I am constantly annoyed and amazed and amused that people doing theatre don't know songs....I know that when I started out, I knew songs from 20 or 30 years previously.....and especially knew the "classic" songs.....

Changing the Register Tape is the title of my new novel.

We open tonight. I followed my three notes, and then I was told to put em back the way they wuz....so I will do so tonight.
Director mentioned that Whiteside should roll his wheelchair downstage a bit once the mummy case comes on so he can be seen on stage right.
Whiteside said that it wasn't the mummy case that was the problem.....I am sitting on the couch at the time....LYING DOWN ON THE COUCH....but that I AM BLOCKING HIM.
I flashed back on ALL of the things I am doing for this particular actor....including being his dresser and having water for him and struggling during our scene to keep him on track....and decided I would say: "Well I am on for 8 pages and you are on for 136 pages - they've seen enough of you."
It was decided he would roll downstage a bit.....

You are the model of discretion, DR Jrand64! :)

Jeudi evening greetings! We were up and out before the new day dawned here on HHW to catch the 9am train to Chartres. Did the cathedral overview with audio tours, then a noon tour with the famous 81-year-old guide Malcolm Miller. We had a lovely lunch at an outdoor cafe overlooking the south entrance, then walked all around the exterior. Did some shopping and caught the 4:30 train back to Paris. We're having a little champagne (compliments of our hotel) and resting a bit before dinner.

I have netflix, but just streaming
When we leave Paradise we will make sure streaming and high speed internet are an option.

I suppose I'm up - I think I got just eight hours of sleep, but only just.
-
From DR Cilla:
Then there was our band director he was working with the trumpets and said "Does anyone know the words to this part" I helpfully sang "O ho lay dee odl lee o, o ho lay dee odl ay..." then added, of course I don't know if those are really words, lol
:D
Shocking the music teachers didn't know any of the music.

DR Vixmom to DR Singdaw:

I looked up the Lexus commercial. After watching I remembered it, and that I was annoyed the dog wasn't in it at the end, as if they had left it in the car.

Mine looked very close to that. The only change that I made to the recipe was to add a hidden mini Reese's Cup to the center of each cupcake.
I also made my own pumpkin pie spice with largely cinnamon and ginger but a touch of nutmeg, allspice, clove and cardamom to the blend.

So, we went out to pick up some dinner at one of the 2 boulangeries on our street and they were both closed. We went across the street for a pizza. We ate while watching BODY OF PROOF dubbed in French.

Have you looked to see if one of those Swiffer boxes was left on your front doorstep?
-
I was never a fan of Matzo Ball soup, kugel, or potato latkes at a deli. My mother's were just sooooo much better.
I never like blintzes anywhere until I had Keith's mother's so the same goes for them.
One of my favorite dishes was chopped liver, until I had my mother in-laws which ruined it for all others.
-
My favorite deli foods were New Kosher Pickels, cole slaw (especially at Nate 'n Als), marbled halavah from the big slab, turkey sandwich on rye with seeds. Challah. Egg bagels with cream cheese and nova scotia lox.
-
Thank you again, BK, for the great videos!

Back from a really fun lunch. Eggs benedict and a short stack (two pancakes).

You guys are making me hungry.

I guess I mentioned how much I like air conditioning too many times. It's not working and it's 82 degrees inside. Ugh!

Yes, thanks for the videos, BK! I hope you'll have them for the NY shows too!

I had a strange dream last night (or early this morning) that involved another Dear Reader. I was in this room, and I think there were other people in the room; when Cillaliz came be-bopping into the room. She was wearing bright red blouse or sweater and a bright green skirt. She came up to me, and kind of twirled around like 'How do I look?' So, I said something like, "Oh you are all set for Christmas." And Cilla stopped turning and looked at me like. 'Duh!' And she said, "This is for _______" (And what she said was some club or organization or musical group or something else that I can't remember.)
That was it! Short and sweet. I have no idea what it means, and I think Jrand said the Dream O'Matic was broken, so who knows; but I wish I could remember what she said it means.

The smoke we have been dealing with is blowing our way from a major fire in Happy Camp, California. Since living here it seems there have been way too many fires in Happy Camp. I did a bit of googling to see if I could find out how many forest fires there have been there in the last 20 years. So far all I found was......
"Fire fighting is an important seasonal job opportunity for many Happy Camp people."

Listening to the final master for And the World Goes Round - disc one finished and listening to disc two now. Pretty damn good.

Happy late day, all,
I've been running about organizing for a trip to Banff, Alberta, Canada tomorrow for a corporate gig. They've had 30 degree temps and snow this week. And of course, I looked at the weather for my return to L.A. on Sunday and it says 97. Yikes!
I love seeing all the videos of Kritzerland. We hear the performances from backstage, but only see them in video. And again, BK, thank you for posting Finishing the Hat. By the way, Fran Soeder reposted it as well. :D
Okay, I'm off shortly to a music rehearsal for the staged reading of "Where's Charley?", proper Brit accent and all.
Cheers!
-
Have a great trip!!!!
-
Just a couple of little volume things to be adjusted and the master is approved and will be on its way to the pressing plant in the morning.

Got up early and made pumpkin pie cupcakes this morning. I hope they're anywhere near as good as the aroma.
Do you frost them? If so, with what?
The recipe said to top them with whipped cream and a little pumpkin pie spice.

I just brought in a can of whipped cream and let people add their own. It was easier that way.
Never had pumpkin merengue, Jane. I'm not sure what I think of the contrasting textures of one so thick and the other so airy. You'll have to make me one to convince me. Or maybe two.

Time to leave work. I'm going to try to set up a wireless Wi-Fi network, now that I have a new cable modem/wireless router. Wish me luck!
Be back later...I hope. ;)

Listening to New Faces of 1952. Love the musical of Lizzie Borden with these great lyrics:
No, you can't chop your mama up in Massachusetts
Not even if you're tired of her cuisine.
No, you can't chop your mama up in Massachusetts
You know, it's almost sure to cause a scene.
Now that's lyric writing.

DR TCB your next cruise.

I am especially attracted to the fact....
"this wont be a trip for those who want a quick-and-convenient cruise. Extra time was built in to account for possible delays. A second vessel with a helicopter pad and towing ability will accompany Serenity to break through ice or help with evacuation if need be."
Interesting!

Finished with my viewing. Listening to some pretty music.

IT WORKS! I was able to set it up, although my tablet's browser is VERY slow...but it was even if I had it hooked up directly to my cable modem with an Ethernet cable. But it works. :)

Cheers!
O Banff is so beautiful!!! We spent a week there back when the Vixter was just 6 .... would love to go back

Just read that actor Denny Miller (Wagon Train; Tarzan) has passed away :-\

I am so sorry to read that. He was a very nice man. I wrote him several years ago asking for an autograph, and he sent back several autographed photos and a very nice letter.

Page five? Really? Is this a holiday? Is this a Doc Holiday? Is this a Judy Holiday? Is this a Jolly Holiday?

I'm listening to music and relaxing. Tomorrow is photo shoot day and I've told the photographer that no images will appear of me without him doing wonderful lighting and touch-up work and applying his special fifteen pounds thinner button.

Sorry for the somber note -- It was difficult trying to relive the memories of 13 years ago. I had moved back home to take care of my dear Mom, who was diagnosed with cancer only five weeks earlier. When I turned on the TV, I couldn't believe my eyes -- Mom wanted to know what movie was I watching? I said, no movie -- it's a special news report, our favorite city had been attacked. , Although we wanted to sit and watch the news, we had take the day and get ready for our daily cancer chemo radiation appointment. We prayed for our friends in New York and those dear souls in the Twin Towers. So thankful our friends were safe, but nine days later -- God needed Mom's help in Heaven. I will never forget the events of September 2001. :-[
