Topic of the Day:  On my DVR and being recorded onto my (non-hi-def) DVD burner so that I can make a (non-hi-def) DVD:  John Leguizamo's "Ghetto Klown" from HBO.  He's very good!

The first thing that popped in my brain is the Lido deck on the Love Boat!  BK did you ever set sail with Captain Stuebing and the rest of the crew on ABC's the Love Boat?

John Leguizamo's "Ghetto Klown" from HBO.  He's very good!

I love Leguizamo - he's a genius on stage.  Plus, he makes one purdy lady -- Too Wong Foo!

Tonight, I'm ushering for "Washington Street Block Party (http://wcpa.squarespace.com/upcoming-events/2014/9/12/washington-street-block-party.html)."  We don't have to wear the standard black pants and white shirt, but we can't wear jeans.  I've signed up for it just yesterday, but I haven't been "confirmed" to actually be able to work it.  I'll check throughout the day today to see if they confirm me.

For those who have inquired -- although I'm a Bookkeeper by trade -- I have always had the soul of a computer nerd who loves Musical Theater.

The Pirates of Penzance with Pam Dawber, Andy Gibb & Rex Smith was my first journey to see a Musical in the "big city" of Los Angeles: http://tinyurl.com/lmt97zw

The previous year, my HS honors english class traveled to the Ahmanson to see Charlton Heston in A Man For All Seasons.  A brilliant performance, but never made my heart smile like a Musical.

In the late 1980's, I combined my love for musicals & computers and started posting on the Prodigy computer network's musical theater bulletin board.  This was way before "the internet" was created.  Take that Al Gore!  LOL

Vendredi morning greetings!  It's actually about noon and we've been for a walk through Cimitiere du Montparnasse.  We paid our respects to Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir, Jean Seberg, Serge Gainsbourg, sculptor Henri Laurens, Baudelaire, and M. Hachette, founder of the publishing company now at odds with Amazon.

We've reserved tomorrow's 7am taxi to the airport and we're about to attempt the Metro over to the Eiffel Tower to take the Seine cruise that's part of our hotel package.  Pray for Rosemary's baby!

Thank you for 'Lido" I was in a bad mood til I listened to this old song.    When I was 15 I went to London with the American Institute of Foreign Study,  The bar tender in our hotel was named Lido.  He asked me to marry him so he could go to America.   LOL< he even came on the bus as we were leaving and said "Don't forget me" LOL.   Seriously, I never did anything except talk to the guy.  I thought of him every time I heard the Lido Shufflle after that

Good morning, all! I stayed up too late finishing The Hyde Park Headsman, and it liked it very much. I think I may make a trek to the Lincoln Center library at noon and drop off a pile of opera CDs that John McGlinn had checked out around 2009and never managed to return.

I need to call up the beautiful Richard Rodgers scrapbooks from 1925-1930 and look at all of the Chee-Chee clippings and programs. My thoughts on a song that was added late to the score in tryout and its performers does not agree with the conclusions of John McGlinn and Robert Kimball in The Complete Lyrics of Lorenz Hart, and I'm hoping the clippings may have an answer.

Well we had a wonderful opening night last night.....quite a large crowd....and it was a good audience that was laughing from beginning to end.

We ended at about 10:30 p.m. which was good.

Banjo and Lorraine were the big hits of the evening, although everyone got their share of laughs.  I must say that I got applause twice in my first sequence....manhandling Miss Preen and then doing my "song" and dance.

Still working on applause on the egress.....we shall see.

We managed to use the Paris Metro to the Eiffel Tower and back.  We had a lovely cruise on the Seine followed by late lunch/early dinner in a sidewalk cafe.  I'll post a picture of the cafe soon.

Now we're refreshing at our hotel and will go out for crepes for dessert later.

I used to type 55 words a minute but I never boxed and I'm not afraid of spiders.  Wait, I did box in elementary school.  My brother taught me and I could beat any girl in a fight, even big ones.  Of course back then girls fought like girls and didn't know how to box.

I was very disappointed last week when my book group discussion, at my house, fell apart and didn't happen.  I'm glad now that I canceled as one the most enthusiastic one in my group to read HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY had just lost her mother and couldn't make it.  Today she had, those of us who could go, over to watch the movie.  We followed it with a short discussion and compared the two.  It was a very nice afternoon.

I baked sour cream cookies for us to snack on and took them over in freezer bags to save.  She will need them next month when her family returns for the memorial on her mother's birthday.

Since I didn't host this month, and she is the hostess next month just before her family arrives, I will host next month and let her lead the discussion of the book she picked.

Has anyone read ME BEFORE YOU by Jojo Meyers?  It is our next book and I have been told it is excellent.

We discovered "The Lone Ranger" on a 16 and under educational programming and have been watching for a week now.  The commercials are hysterical.  We have funerals, medicare, a stair seat to ride up and down, and a log chipper.  We are sure those children are asking their parent's to purchase these for them, well maybe the stair chair  the chipper.  The chipper is actually cool if you chip enough logs ;)

It sure was -- the subsequent years were a blur.  Thank goodness for dear friends and family!

TOD:  Last 5 songs from iPod on Shuffle:

"Be A Santa" Michelle Nicastro and Bruce
"Wear Your Love Like Heaven"- Donovan
"Make Yourself Comfortable"- Sarah Vaughan
"The Broken Record"- Celia Birk
"Who Needs Wings to Fly"- Sally Field

Michelle Nicastro was always a favorite.  A fan from way back -- the Los Angeles company of Les Mis, late 1980's -- her portrayal of Eponine brought me to tears!  Gone too soon! <3

Never did The Love Boat.  I was up for the role that Fred Grandy played, and the producer of the show is someone I went to LACC with, so you'd think he might have called at some point, but alas.

Wow, with all the shows you did on ABC -- that would chap my hide -- just imagine, if you were chosen for the Fred Grandy role -- we could have fair representation in Congress!  :)

He's on at least one of those STAGE recordings that BK produced.

Good to know.  I went to many of the STAGE benefits, but don't recall seeing him.  Listening to Michelle Nicastro was a treat and anything from Jason Graae made me laugh! LOL

Here is an interesting Tacoma news flash!

There is a wild black bear wandering around Point Defiance Park and the surrounding neighborhood.

Hmm.  Guess who lives in the surrounding neighborhood?

We are always the last to know these things.  The bear was actually caught walking down Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma yesterday morning.  She had left my neighborhood on Wednesday.  225 pounds.  She wasn't small.

Kevin Kline was on the Today Show with Kathie Lee & Hoda: http://tinyurl.com/k9d9k2h

However, there was an issue with the interview -- Kevin Kline was not in the Princess Bride.  One of their Producers needed to be slapped silly with a wet noodle.  That's what they get for not reading the teleprompter and/or index cards ahead of time!  BTW, The Princess Bride was one of my all time favorite movies.

In a couple of his one-man shows, he's played drag characters, but in "Time Expired (http://www.amazon.com/dp/6302981301/)," a short movie from 1992, he plays a transvestite.  Here's the IMDb Plot Summary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105595/plotsummary):

Quote
When locksmith Bobby gets out of prison after a two year sentence for stealing money from parking meters, his wife Ginny* is waiting outside for him. So is Ruby, a transvestite who was Bobby's cell mate and became his lover in prison. Bobby spurns Ruby, but he finds himself unable to reconnect with Ginny once they're back home together. He's in love, and it's not with her. Is there any way he can sort this out?
* played by Edie Falco

Be back later.

Well, tonight's "ushering" was easier than easy.  We basically just sat there.  The event was a bunch of local businesses on the block were open and people could mingle through them, while four different bands performed in front of The Center.  We ushers just sat on chairs at the door and directed people to the bathroom while listening to the bands.  I got there for the second shift, so I heard the last two bands.  They were both pretty good...loud (even from behind), but good.
