Well, you've read the notes, the notes were photographic, and now it is time for you to post until the photographic cows come home.

tod

many shows by Jonathan Tunick, Robert Russell Bennett, Ralph Burns, Don Walker, Philip Lang, Irwin Kostal, Sid Ramin and the talented crew of people at MGM Studios including Roger Edens

and of course are own LARRY MOORE who work on so many of Kimmel's produced albums make them that much more enjoyable to hear and in some cases should be the definitive versions

Good morning, all! My weekend is pretty loose; I had planned to be at Toyland this morning, but I am stuck here waiting for my Mac Man to help me with an email problem: my server will accept emails but will not send them because it claims my password is wrong.  Hopefully, h can help me clear up this mess.

So, I'll go to Toyland tomorrow and cart home some more things.

DR Michael Shayne, thank you for the kind compliment.

I must say, I miss the old days, where a Broadway orchestra had 25-35 musicians and off-Broadway musicals had 5-10. Now, it's all bar mitzvah bands , although the new revival of On The Town has around 28 players, making it, the revival of Finian's Rainbow, and the Lincoln Center South Pacific the only revivals to work with the shows' original orchestrations.

So, here area few of my favorites:
BROADWAY
1903: BABES IN TOYLAND (orchestrators Otto Langey and Victor Herbert)
1917: HAVE A HEART or OH, LADY! LADY! (Frank Saddler)
1924: SITTING PRETTY (Robert Russell Bennett)
1933: ROBERTA (Robert Russell Bennett)
1944: ON THE TOWN (Hershy Kay)
1945: CAROUSEL (Don Walker)
1956: CANDIDE (Hershy Kay)
1957: WEST SIDE STORY (Sid Ramin and Irwin Kostal)
1960: WILDCAT (Robert Ginzler)
1962: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED (Sid Ramin and Irwin Kostal)
1963: SHE LOVES ME (Don Walker)
1969: DEAR WORLD (Philip J. Lang)
1971: FOLLIES (Jonathan Tunick)
OFF-BROADWAY
1954: THREEPENNY OPERA (Kurt weill, adapted by Blitzstein)
1954: THE GOLDEN APPLE (Jerome Moross/Hershy Kay)
1960: THE FANTASTICKS (Julian Stein)
1960: ERNEST IN LOVE (Gershon Kingsley)
1963: THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE (Larry Wilcox)

the Vixter and I seem to carry a curse with us  -  if there is a long time business tat we have never been  to  na d we finally go to it , it immediately closes

It happened with the mattress store --- there for 30 years , closed the month after we bought a mattress

the  Beechtree Cafe... after more than 25 years , gone 2 weeks after  our  visit

The Garden Diner....after 10 years

The Chinese take out restaurant that had been in the same location since 1962  not only closed , it burned down  the night we made our first  visit in 2012

Last night after the wake, the Vixter and I went to a coffeehouse that has been in business for 10 years to have a light meal and a chat.  We enjoyed ourselves and told the waitress we would be back.

She informed us that they were closing at the end of September since they  lost their lease

The Vixter and I just looked at each other and whispered  "the curse"

I have NEVER played a part like this.....it explodes on the stage and never lets go.  I am having great fun with all the physical comedy....and the audience seems to do so as well.

Last night I was interrupted by applause TWICE and got all of the same and couple of new laughs!

I have far too many to list them all, so I gave a sampling. I thought the orchestrations for RENT were amazing, suited the show perfectly and provided a great deal of color for a small ensemble, but I also remember how wonderful the original band was for GODSPELL and THE MAGIC SHOW. Ralph Burns was no slouch either: I loved his FUNNY GIRL and NO NO NANETTE, but I thought his LITTLE ME not too good.

I owe my Mac Man John a lot of gratitude. My email is back up and running properly. That's one round of frustration off my back.

I don't either. I love that version. But my friend who worked costumes on it when they did 152 performances a week of it at Madison Square Garden sure did. (That number was a slight exaggeration. I think they only did 127 performances a week.)

Happy to report I lunched this day at the reopening of the only remaining Hamburger Hamlet - in the Oaks of Sherman.  I'd read yesterday that today was the day so I was there at eleven-thirty as the doors opened for me and five others.  Severs are great and attentive, menu has many of the Hamlet's classic items back (there was concern that when it reopened it would no longer BE the Hamlet), decor is the same but freshened up a bit, and the new owner/manager worked for the Hamlet's original owners, Harry and Marilyn Lewis, from the time he was twenty-one, so he knows his Hamlet history and better still respects it.  I had the number 11 (bacon cheeseburger) and a bowl of the lobster bisque.  For decades the lobster bisque was, in fact, crab bisque with no lobster at all in it.  Well, today there were lobster bits aplenty and even though they say it's a mix of lobster and crab, I never actually tasted any crab - just the lobster.  It's lovely to have our old friend back.  The manager and I chatted and he's a really nice chap.  The always amusing thing is that 90% of the people crying about "end of an era" "I'm devastated no more Hamlet" "this is terrible!" when this closed several months ago, actually hadn't been there in decades.  That's the way it always is - they just want to chime in and hear the sound of their own voices these folks who still live here but don't feel the need to support restaurants with history.  Hopefully now that it's back they will get off their lazy butt cheeks and support it so it does well.  I, for one, am glad it's back and in such good shape.

Hello, everyone.

Thanks for all the vibes, hugs, and good wishes you all sent. I'm holding my own and am pleased to say I had NO trips to the ER this week. In fact, I'm improving a bit. The cardiologist told me to eat something high in potassium when the bouts occur. Why wait? I've been taking extra potassium and do think it's helping. I'm scheduled for an exercise echo in a few weeks. If I pass that I'll be relieved.

Jane, you asked about Netflix. I get the discs and for the most part they arrive in one day. Getting to me is quite reliable, but outgoing from me to them is sometimes a problem. Our mail carrier often comes quite late (8 pm isn't unusual), and the disc then goes out a day later. USPS problems, in other words. Otherwise, everything's been surprisingly reliable.

Far too common, in my experience. I partly blame the landlords, some of whom qouge and expect tenants to pay a percentage of their profits back in additional rent. Some of it, I think, is due to the trendiness of today's culture. That said, Vixmom, you don't plan to visit the Hamburger Hamlet any time soon, do you?

DR Jeanne I'm glad you have improved and the potassium is working.

Thanks for responding about Netflix.  I will know after a few more discs but it appears mail to and from Salem, the location of the warehouse for the 1st 2 we received, is 2 days each way vs 1 day from Portland or when we had a mailing address in Medford.

As long as we are receiving shows we request 2 days is acceptable.  Not acceptable was them not sending us anything at all.

The Vixter and I just looked at each other and whispered  "the curse"

That said, Vixmom, you don't plan to visit the Hamburger Hamlet any time soon, do you?

Welcome home, Ginny! Glad you had a good trip. Any trouble staying heart-healthy in France?

Thanks, DR Jeanne!  The trip was wonderful and I didn't really pay much attention to diet.  We walked A LOT, so I figure I got some good cardiovascular exercise.

DR Jeanne, I'm sorry I completely missed your recent news about your trip to the ER - had to go back through your posts to find the details.  Glad to hear you've had a quiet week, but TAKE NO CHANCES!

Bruce, regarding weight loss, I've found that I must be really judicious with carbs. A "sensible" diet just isn't enough. When I really cut the carbs I lose. (Well, I win, actually, but you know what I mean.)

That's why I called 911. My symptoms were just too close to heart attack symptoms, particularly when women's symptoms can be so subtle or even nonexistent. Plus, tachycardia is exhausting.

I don't hear BK complaining about the heat. LA is hot today and for the next few days. It's 81 in the apartment, WITH the AC on, a fan running, and the shades closed. Ugh!

Carbs really help for me too.  But I also think eating a bunch of smaller meals vs one meal a day would help.

I would hesitate to try progressive lenses online.  A straight script seems reasonable and I have know people happy with it.  My problem is how to know the frame will fit or look good.

What a day.  I have deadlines on Monday for a brief and a big immigration application.  So after researching online for about 4-5 hours last night, I got up bright and early and went to the office.  And I Couldn't get on the internet and when I did it was unbearably slow.  I tried for 3 1/2 hours to get it working.  Since I was alone, I didn't hold back on letting loose with a string of words that shouldn't be used in pleasant company and when I finally gave up, packed up what I thought I needed to work and came home, I had something of a melt down.  I really wanted to get my work done so I could have a whole day off, but no. It wasn't the first time lately I've felt like just quitting.  I can't keep doing this and hopefully getting Myrna on board will help me regain my sanity...

Earlier in the day, Fedex delivered a box to my front door -- but this is how i found the package. There were several items in the box. But this is what they took - two boxes of therma care heat wraps! Looks like some crook has a sore back!  Have been a basket case most of the day, I live in a gated community and my front door is not in view of the street.

Hi DR Jane --

I'm a dorky klutz.  My problem is that I topple things over at the office.  Years ago, I started putting my beverage of choice in a stable cup and then placing that cup inside a coffee mug for stability.  I saw these little gadgets on-line, but not sure how secure they are.

Creepy.  This is why cameras on porches are becoming popular.  Chances are it was someone passing who saw the delivery truck stop.

I was in bed, asleep, when someone knocks on the door and then walks into the room.  It is a woman I used to work with me at Children's Services.  Anyway, she comes in and says, "You can't see the Northern Lights tonight, so don't bother getting up."

The 22nd.  I have too much going on this week to be able to get her settled in. I can do it the week after so that's when she's starting.  I've got to get her a parking pass, introduce her to the building manager, get an email set up for her and get the computer configured for her.  Too much to do to have her start any sooner

I know.  I talk to them every day and try to get up there for a day every month.  It's the best I've been able to do for a couple years. I'm going to try to take time over the holidays, but I still don't have anyone who can give Callie her meds, so I really don't want to spend more than a night without coming home to take care of her. Luckily they are only 2 hours from here, so I can do that
