Well, you've read the notes, you know what's coming soon, and now it is time for you to post until the coming soon cows come home. Soon.
-
And the word of the day is: DIVARICATION!
-
good morning to all
-
today is when i find out when my operation #1 will be.
-
Good morning, all! I am up especially early to catch a bus around 7:30 for my eye appointment at 22nd and Fifth Avenue. The trip involves two buses. After that, I shall stop at Toyland, pick up a few things and head back uptown.
-
I had a fantastic time at the Spirit of the Cowboy Festival in McKinney, TX, this past weekend.
The only problem was that the 4 hour drive home turned into 6, as we were stuck in a "parking lot" on the freeway for 2 hours.

Good Grief-- it's Monday!
-
One of those days - looks like my last post disappeared into cyberspace.
-
Congrats to BK on the new venture!!!
-
Good morning, all.
Slept pretty solidly, but am dead tired. Got to do a little work on the show, but other than that, I'm laying low today.
-
today is when i find out when my operation #1 will be.
Hope all goes well. I've added your name to my prayer group hotline.
-
Happy Monday! May this new week bring lots of adventures!
Haven't had my first cup of coffee yet. Only a little after 6am on the left coast.
:) ;) :)
-
Monday morning greetings! Back to reality for me - first AAUW meeting of the 2014-15 program year is tonight. Richard and I have to go out to lunch (nothing in the fridge) and then to the grocery, too. Tomorrow I'll catch up with my Mom, who seems to have survived my being away for 2 weeks.
-
Welcome to new DR BwayAnge! I know you're not brand new, but I missed welcoming you when we didn't have internet access for a few days.

Welcome to new DR BwayAnge! I know you're not brand new, but I missed welcoming you when we didn't have internet access for a few days.
Thanks for the Welcome! I couldn't remember my previous user name -- it could have been BwayPhan or a variation thereof. I've had a rough ten years or so, but am ready to take on the world again!
To make a long story short -- first my Dad passed, then my Mom passed and was down sized 18 months ago. For the first time in my life, could not get a job. No one would hire an experienced 50 year old bookkeeper & legal secretary -- with a degree, types 60 wpm, ten key 150 cpm, excellent word & excel skills. Crazy!
Out of the clear blue sky one day, I reconnected with a high school classmate who said her family business needed a bookkeeper. Was hired on the spot -- no applying or formal interview. Three weeks later -- I keep pinching myself.
-
Good morning, all.
Vibes for DR Mike.
Glad to hear the event in McKinney went well, DR Druxy.
-
The musical camp sounds like a great idea.

TOD:
I remember seeing The 400 Blows on a plane trip to France when I was in high school.
Love that movie, The Wild Child and Shoot the Piano Player.
I have a soft spot for The Green Room, which may not be highly regarded, but it creeped me out back in high school and I admire that.
Jules and Jim, Night and Day, The Last Metro -- heck, I love them all.
-
And the word of the day is: DIVARICATION!
And The Song Of The Day Is: SOMEONE IN A TREE
-
And I am home. I left here at 7:20, caught the bus at 7:30 and was to 23rd and Fifth Avenue by 8:15; I could have left 30 minutes later, but it's hard judging traffic.
I need a nap.

Glad I got ten hours of sleep yesterday because last night I got three.

A few days ago there was a big brouhaha about Danielle Watts being "detained" in Studio City because someone called the police that she and her boyfriend were going at it in the car on a public street in broad daylight. Of course, she had it all on her Facebook page in minutes as did her boyfriend and then everyone, having read her side of things, immediately did exactly as you'd expect. Then the police audio was released and not a one of those folks doing exactly as you'd expect bothered to comment on what those tapes contained. After hearing them, well: http://www.tmz.com/2014/09/15/django-actress-daniele-watts-lapd-race-card-fame-audio/
-
You tell me.
-
My opinion is she immediately caused the situation herself, her hysteria is completely bogus because her crying sounds completely manufactured and actressy and comes and goes at will as she deems necessary. Literally one second she's screaming and crying and the next second she's being a complete smart ass. She walks away from the police when they're talking to her, and keeps refusing to show her ID while the police explain to her why she must - her boyfriend already had shown his. As the cop says, "We would have been gone in five minutes without any problems." Listen - there are about four to listen to -
-
You tell me.
The things one will do for publicity -- lessons from the K family handbook! Society needs to quit making stupid people famous -- just saying!
-
Camp sounds GREAT....what an opportunity for those who aspire to be.....
-
Monday.....shopping was not too bad.....banking was not too bad....and NO rehearsal or performance tonight.....which is great!

The new Miss America's talent - she was Miss New York - was sitting on the floor singing HAPPY and playing with a red plastic cup.
4th runner up - Miss Massachusetts - played the piano and said that she changed the original tempo of the piece, so she really felt like she created it.

Mary Jane played piano as her talent.....not sure if it was her favorite Beethoven or Edward MacDowell....but it is unlikely she changed the original tempo.

I wonder what color Allison's gown was. I am picturing Firehouse Red.

In other news....actress Shirley Yamaguchi passed away last week :-\
I loved her in Kurosawa's SCANDAL, and even more in the American film JAPANESE WAR BRIDE where she played opposite Don Taylor.

And in musical news, Bob Crewes has passed away. I was not aware that he was gay...I wonder if June Kenney knew this when she was dating him for that magazine story 8)
Love his music!

I read the story and felt that was enough and I prefer not to listen. I'm glad there is proof of the truth, whatever it may have been.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I really can't think of a reason not to do it. I can still come to Sioux City and visit my friends, it's only 2 hours away, so other than the hassle, the selling a house, buying a house and moving, I don't know that there's a down side

I told both Bob and one of my close friends this morning. They both said it makes perfect sense and if I can do it, I probably should do it. Interesting

MBarnum, that Bob Crewe album has an oddly ominous-sounding song on it: Girls on the Rocks.
On one level, it sounds like they've been iced. The other conjures images of positions that are a little too painful to contemplate.
-
Topic of the Day: "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Fahrenheit 451."
:)

They look delish!!

Sheesh - I go away for 2 weeks and they completely rearrange the Kroger store where I do most of our shopping! I knew they were making some changes, but this is MAJOR. Anyway, we got our shopping done after we went out to lunch and did a few other errands. Back here for a couple of hours before the AAUW potluck dinner and program meeting.
-
The chocolate trees are cute.
Yes, they are! I've saved the photo and may try to make them in November for the AAUW holiday bazaar.

Back from the Costco run and a chili, cheese and onion omelet. It's 100 degrees outside.

Happily, it's only 68 degrees in Oakland CA.
You could always drive up to the Bay Area to escape that heat, BK!

It is a cool, rainy Monday....and I do not have to go to the theatre tonight.

Happy Monday, all,
I'm just back and recovering from a singing job in Banff, Alberta, Canada, where after an early storm, there was snow on the ground and temps in the 40's and 50's. Here's a pic I posted to Facebook yesterday from my breakfast at the Rimrock Hotel.
Needless to say, coming home to 104 temps in L.A. was not my idea of a good time. :D
And happily, after a summer drought workwise, I'm up to my ears now. Working on a staged reading for this Sunday of "Where's Charley?" as Sir Francis, then I begin work on Ragtime next week.
I found out why I was not cast as Father in Ragtime - they hired a Mother who is really a bit too young for the role. She would have looked like my daughter. Interesting dynamic though. ha. So, Henry Ford it is. And a paycheck and union weeks. Better than a poke in the eye with a hot stick. :D
-
Beautiful view. I'm sure it was worth the chill ;)
Congrats on all the work.

Right now, I am listening to, and thoroughly enjoying, The Spider (http://www.kritzerland.com/spider_the.htm).

. Stop saying that!!!!! Let's just call it "the cd that must not be named". Or TCDTMNBN for short. Rolls right off the tongue. Or the fingers for that matter

And on that note (F-natural), I'm off to my parents' house for dinner. My mom is making meatloaf. My sister and I bought her a meat grinder attachment for her KitchenAid mixer for her birthday and she loves it (it's what she wanted). The last time I was over there, she made a meat spaghetti sauce with it and it was delish! I'm sure that the meatloaf will be delish, also. :)
Be back later.

I am my own meat grinder.

That sounds dirty.

I'm here. Worked late at the office and am watching The Roosevelts.

The cleaning lady came in the office while I was still there. She talked a little sense into me. I'm going to table the talk of moving until I'm no longer exhausted and recovering from disappointment
-
Are you enjoying the Roosevelts?

So enough about that.

That is cute the office cleaning lady talked a little sense into you :)

True. I'm also exploring my options because they haven't asked me to sign a lease yet. I know once I sign one, my options will be gone until it's up.

Oh the cleaning lady had no bones about telling me I've worked too hard building my practice and that the bad lawyers are the ones who needed to leave town not the good ones. Lol she's always made me laugh and says exactly what she thinks
-
BwayAnge I hope everything continues to improve and go well with you.
Thanks Jane! I hope so too! :)

Woo Hoo! But in case you miss it -- you can watch it tomorrow on Hulu.com!

AND she named names!! She makes me laugh, but she was also the first person I talked to about it who said "Don't go". It was kind of nice to hear

Robert Irvine is coming here! Now that is someone I may pay to do the VIP. It's actually a 2 hour seminar on how to cook his favorite dishes. If I can get a VIP ticket, I'll do it, I'd love a cooking lesson from him :)
-
Apparently he appears near where he's taping the show. I know a restaurant that was a finalist but didn't make the cut and closed. Wonder who got it?
-
So enough about that.
Oh my, I don't remember writing this,
-
I've been texting with my brother. It's interesting, our work has gotten so electronic that it would be possible to stay up there for a while with my parents and work from my office here. It's a very good thought. I'm hoping Myrna works out. If she's as good as I think she is, I really could work from up there and be with mom and dad at the same time. Now, where I keep three cats....that's the question.

I really enjoyed his earlier series, Dinner Impossible. The challenges were fascinating. Go to Hawaii -- create a meal out of X, Y & Z for the cast of Lost. Go to Quebec -- cook inside an ice hotel using very few ingredients. But first, you must get the cold water to boil!
I even remember the episode where he met his future wife -- she was a lady wrestler with the WWF. You could tell he was smitten at first sight!
I would love a tour of the Pioneer Woman's Ranch and a cooking lesson! I enjoy watching the chefs/cooks that use real everyday food.
-
Luca said Robert Irvine was really nice and very helpful during the taping of "Food Network Star."
-
Interesting CD in the mail today. The Dietz and Schwartz revue Inside USA arrived with Beatrice Lillie and Buddy Clark as well as Pearl Bailey, Jack Haley and Perry Como. Then there are recordings from Fred and Adele Astaire doing songs from The Band Wagon.
Should be fun.
