Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nightmare notes, and now it is time for you to post until the nightmare cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PILAR!
-
TOD:
Back in the day, we were season subscribers to musicals at the Dorothy Chandler. Once a season, they'd throw in an original production, which was usually pretty bad. We walked out of a couple of those at intermission. Don't recall the titles.
-
Good morning.
I also dislike those very loud rock shows. And it seems more and more shows are going that way.
-
So much for sleeping in on Saturday morning! :P
-
Good morning, all.
What a blessed feeling, to have gotten some solid sleep and to wake up without the stress of tech week and rehearsing, fighting for acoustic balance, etc. We are there, and the show is up and running. And oh my god, did this one ever need its audience. You can only go so far in rehearsing and refining without that "final character" which is the audience, and I never felt that so acutely as with this show. It is now, well, "alive".
Coffee!
-
TOD:
Agree with all of you. Worst ever, for me, was sitting through a college production of something called MACBETH 2000.
As that was some fourteen years ago (as you might have already guessed), I don't recall anything about how it sounded. It might not even have been loud, though it probably was. What I'm certain of is that it was dreck.
-
Good morning!
-
Good morning, all.
So, bk, did you like the show? ;)
-
Looking forward to BK's report on Wayne Brady and Kiss Me Kate!

There are so many horrors that I've seen through the years, but I'll narrow it to one:
New York City Opera's outdoor Turnadot at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
The first act we hear of the loveliness of Turnadot and how men are willing to sacrifice themselves for her beauty. At the end of the act, we finally see her. She was sung by a much-past-her-prime and maybe 75 pounds overweight soprano whose voice was not suited for singing outdoors. Upper notes were as wobbly as her massive flesh. No lower notes; she just bottomed out.
She's was wearing a pagoda on her head that she managed to dwarf, so everything about her appearance was just ridiculous.
Her lover, who can only be heard when he sings facing the floor mikes, finally melts her heart and gets to give her a big kiss. His arms do not go halfway around her, and when he goes in for the kiss, he looks as if he is lifting his leg to somehow mount her in order to reach her face.
My friend and I are so horrified by all this nonsense that we move to the back of the theater for the last act where I lose it. I am laughing so hard I fall out of my seat.
It's Turandot's wedding and she has to mount an enormous staircase, but she's so large that it's not an easy feat for her. She's using her hands to steady herself, which also causes her to stick her rear end out to the audience. When she gets to the top, she's supposed to turn around in triumph. Instead, she's wobbling, as if she's going to fall through the set. Meanwhile, the chorus is wearing these long sleeves and doing some sort of faux Jack Cole choreography that looks as if they're sending semaphore messages of SOS to get them out of this production. Indeed, at this point, the orchestra sounds all jazzed up, as if Sid Ramin had mixed up charts from Gypsy. Confetti starts falling and somehow it all manages to end.

Congrats, ChasSmith, on a great opening night.
Thanks for sharing the picture of your mom and you, BwayAnge, and {{{hugs}}}.

Off on a long day that concludes with Renee Fleming singing Strauss' Last Four Songs with the San Antonio Symphony.
-
Good morning, all! I slept very late, partly because I was up half the night with health issues. I feel great this morning, so I guess I'm not dead yet.
Today, I shall do some laundry, continue with my apartment projects, and maybe do some writing.
DR vixmom, what a wonderful conclusion to your telephone drama! I wish some of that good luck would rub off on me, so I need a hug.
DR ChasSmith, I can't tell from your posts how the show actually went last night with the audience, but I share your relief that it is now up and running.

I just finished watching last night's Fashion Police tribute episode. It was very well done and made me very teary. :(
-
I'm up, I'm up - four and a half hours of sleep. The heat wave, mercifully, seems to be over.

Saturday morning greetings! Getting ready to deliver some groceries to Mom before Michigan's 3:30 kick-off against Utah - Go, Blue!

TOD - our local hospital used to do a fundraising revue called High Fever Follies. I went only once, with DR Elmore, and it was so awful. The "dance of the 7 veils" performed to FEELINGS just about did us in.

I Missed It By A Day..But Better Late Than Never..The Very Best For A Very Very Happy Birthday !!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I got a headache just reading MR BK's description of the show he saw last night.
-
Good news from DR VIXMOM about her victory over AT & T.
Good news from DR CHAS SMITH on his opening night.
Lots of good news from many dear readers......
-
I brought home the opening night DVD and it would not play on the computer, the dvd player OR the BLU RAY player. I don't think it was finalized....so I sent a message to the tech guy to find out.
If not....then there will be NO evidence of BANJO except in the hearts of the audience.
How can that be possible, you ask....since tonight is closing night and we have another opportunity?
WELL....I will share that information with you....why should I keep it to myself....
-
You were asking why tonight's closing night performance would not be an opportunity to make a final educational dvd for historical purposes.....
WELL it is because.......
-
This morning at 9 a.m. - Bert Jefferson, the editor of the Mesalia Journal, fell off the roof of his home. He has a concussion and nine stitches in his noggin and will not be able to appear in tonight.
SO - his part will be taken by my cousin BRAD....who will be working all afternoon with the director on blocking, etc. I would imagine he will be using his book....so tonight it will be the Brad Sandy as Bert Jefferson Show....through no fault of his own.
I would have thought a better solution would be having the DIRECTOR step in and letting Brad sit with the script and ring the telephone.....but I am not in charge of anything but myself.
-
PRAY FOR ROSEMARY'S BABY.....

Oh...and we are SOLD OUT!

Well, thank you, sir!
-
Yikes, DR JRand! Vibes to Bert, Brad, and the entire company!
-
DR JRand64, this will be a performance for the anecdotes! You will be part of a legendary community theatre performance. DR Ginny and I were in a turkey production of Auntie Mame where the drnks caught everything on fire.

Ah, yes, DR Elmore, that was my other "nightmare" choice!
-
I shall now be on my way to the Bewitched thing, then some food, then some packages, then home.
-
DR ChasSmith, I can't tell from your posts how the show actually went last night with the audience, but I share your relief that it is now up and running.
Quite right. I'm happy to say it went superbly with both the preview and first night audiences.
-
Recovery vibes and closing-night show vibes to the cast of Man Who came to Dinner.
-
DR Vixmom I was pleasantly surprised to read the excellent ending to your cell phone saga.
-
From DR Cilla:
(http://I should add to my mom's quote at the bottom of my posts that she's been in the church choir for 73 years.)
I love you Mom stories ;D

Good Morning! er Good Afternoon to those on the right coast! :D

I think I have received a Java upgrade notice but I have ignored it because Keith wasn't around to ask him about it.
-
TOD - our local hospital used to do a fundraising revue called High Fever Follies. I went only once, with DR Elmore, and it was so awful. The "dance of the 7 veils" performed to FEELINGS just about did us in.
Sorry, but the thought of FEELINGS -- cracked me up!
-
What is it with people and mixed signals?
Today I got a FB birthday greeting and friend request from my goddaughter's mother, who for the past three years has been "far too busy" to have coffee with me to discuss my feelings of alienation and hostility since 2011. Mr Raines has been telling people that I dropped them, but that's so completely false, I don't know how to handle that accusation.
I hate this shit.
-
On a more positive note, I have a taker for my two filing cabinets I'm tossing on Tuesday. They will move across the hall to my neighbor John's apartment. It saves me the effort of dragging them to the street to dump them.
-
I shall now be on my way to the Bewitched thing, then some food, then some packages, then home.
Have fun at the Bewitched thing -- still wanting to hear tales of the character Mrs. Kravitz or the actresses who portrayed her. I believe there were two of them.
-
I've had lots of Java updates over time. I've had some my antivirus said were viruses and some it said wasn't
-
Tonight might be one of the performances that MR BK is asking about in the notes for TOD....we shall see.
Thanks to DR GINNY and DR ELMORE and DR FJL....I am sure we will all survive...and yes DR ELMORE....an anecdote for sure.
The last time we did this show....the leading actor just fell apart during one performance, and we only got to do the first two acts....although he returned the next two nights and he was fine.
I think THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER is a cursed show for our particular theatre group.
-
Hmm TOD: One of the touring shows of RENT that came through here was awful - and I liked the original RENT. I've been in shows where all sorts of things went wrong and I'm sure the audience felt they were awful... Like our community theater production of The Music Man, and The Mouse That Roared in high school where a couple of the actors got locked out when they stepped out while waiting several scenes for their entrance and suddenly they weren't there for their lines......ok, I was one of them.....it was terrible
-
Vibes for a surprisingly good show DR JRand..... No matter what, have fun!
-
DR BwayAnge I like the photo of you and your dear mother. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Since Mom has been gone, there have been so many instances when I feel she has given me a "hug" from above. No, I'm no a nutjob! Here's an example:
A year after Mom passed -- some friends wanted to go to NYC. As I was researching for the best hotel rates, I came across the following photo and see folks walking in a cross walk. I'm like -- OMG -- it's Me and Mom -- she's in the greenish jacket on the right and I'm following in the light blue jacket.
Talk about goose bumps. The B&B was called the Broadway Inn, but it's no longer around. :)

DR Laura I've been seeing monarchs a lot in the past week or two. That's about a month later than the usual migration through this area. Haven't seen great numbers together, but have seen them almost every day this past week
-
Thanks DR CILLA LIZ....I am sure it will be even more fun.
-
That's awesome, Cillaliz. I haven't seen one in my yard yet, but I know there are some around.
Last Saturday I took Wae-Ling to southeastern Arizona to a tagging event, and she picked them off the flowers and tagged them. She tagged more than anyone else.
-
John G., your description of the opera is hilarious.
-
I had a stay-at-home day yesterday. I felt lazy all day. So this morning I got up and went hiking. I feel better.
-
OY, TOD -- didn't have to think that very far back. The last musical I saw in Los Angeles was the Book of Mormon at the Pantages. I guess it may be my faith and upbringing -- but one song made me very upset. I couldn't believe their usage of the "F word" and God! Plus I was offended by some of the men's costumes, but that's besides the point.
After the show, I met some friends for dinner and we discussed the show. The first thing they said, didn't you know ahead of time -- the show was created by the guys from South Park. In my defense, I never watched South Park. I usually do a little research before buying show tickets, but I knew it won the Tony for Best Musical -- how bad could it be? My dining companions proceeded to tell me that they never saw the show for the same reason.
I loved the rest of the musical numbers. But I have to ask -- does the dislike of one song -- ruin the rest of the performance?
-
Thanks for sharing the photo of you and your mom, BwyAnge

I'm having a lazy day. I went to IHOP for breakfast then stopped at PETCO for many supplies I was out of. The cats greeted me at the door as they always do when I say I went to PETCO. I intended to mow the yard, clean the house and do the laundry today, but after filling the dishwasher, I sat down and am still sitting here. The cats are all napping in the same room with me and we have the windows open.
-
I do need to venture to the grocery store and do some chores today. I really need to get the laundry done....glad I don't have plans tonight so I can just sit for awhile

I was about to ask teh same questions
I'd like a vowel, please! It was drinks; in the play they're "flaming mamies" or something, and the glasses were filled too full and the flames and fluid poured over the side of the cups onto the stage. It was the capper to an awful, scenically ugly. and for the most part badly miscast production - DR Ginny was always good! - but something I'd love to forget ever being involved in.

and it is not likely it will happen
We served 100+ meals at the Soup kitchen -
I found about 20 ice cream sandwiches in the freezer and had about 15 kids at meal, so I had the great joy of sneaking around the dining hall, slipping one on a child's tray while whispering "Say nothing! I don't have any for the grownups!"
The memories of the surprised smiles I received will brighten many a dark moment

In about 30 minutes we are off to a "hoe down" at a firehouse. One of the officers/members is a life long member of my church and he invited us along

I'm glad I am not asking this about HHW for a change......is anyone having trouble with facebook?
-
The fire in Weed, California is 100% contained. People were permitted to return yesterday. The Humane Society was there to help identify the remains of pets. The fire fighters were there to make sure everything was out and just to be there for the people to talk to.

-
I'm glad I am not asking this about HHW for a change......is anyone having trouble with facebook?
Not me
-
So sad. Did the fire move in too quickly to get pets out?
-
It was very fast. If people were home they had to get out quickly. I'm sure if they could they took there pets. Miraculously cats have been found alive and rescued. I haven't seen anything about dogs.
I've never read where anyone attempted to identify remains. One more reason to microchip pets. Of course those rescued will be returned to their people much faster. The first day of the fire a fireman rescued a kitten and the family, who had lost everything else, where full of smiles to have their kitten back.
We often stop in Weed for a pit stop on our way home from LA and it is always windy there. The wind unfortunately was blowing towards the town instead of away from it.

Does your waterbed have a frame around it? Did you check between the waterbed mattress and frame (assuming you were working on the bed) I keep thinking they fell behind whatever you were working on, don't know if that's possible, but I think that every time I read your post so thought I'd say it

I was about to say what Cilla said. I had forgotten about the water bed but what if it is tucked in there someplace and you bust the bed. Check very carefully.
I knew the odds were against it being in the trash but it is best to check since the trash will leave home.
It has to be someplace.

I am truly moved by the fact the Humane Society was there. As a person who has lost a pet I would rather know they had died there never to know what happened.

The Siskiyou County Public Health Department is administering free Tetanus vaccinations to any adults who lost their homes in Weed this week.
Health officials say it’s important that people who are working in the devastation get the shot to protect themselves.
Something you don't think about but is important. I keep up on my shots and keep track of my guys because they don't do it.

I will look all around the outsides of my bed again. :)

Our friend is hiking the El Camino Santiago. He is in week one of 7 weeks and already the photos are beautiful. If his trip wasn't so long, and Keith wanted to go, I would be doing this with him.

Back from all manner of things. I was at the Bewitched thing for about two-and-a-half hours - very disorganized today, but I had fun, sold a book, signed photographs, had a wonderful chat with Erin Murphy, the original Tabitha on Bewitched, and the original Adam from same. In fact, in tomorrow's notes I have photographs to prove it - including the Three Adams.
-
Then I went the the Hamburger Hamlet - split some popcorn shrimp, although I only had three of them - eggs benedict with a tiny portion of Those Potatoes, and then a couple of drummettes - very good.
-
Still having trouble seeing John G's interview, although it started for a while this time.
-
Maybe I'll be able to see it from the tax office on Monday.

I was able to see it on FB. I liked it and his red shirt makes a nice background for the book.

New tv shows begin tomorrow. Has anyone seen something of interest? I have "Madam Secretary" set to record.

we are back from the Hoe Down at the firehouse. The band has quite a following there were about 40 or 50 poeple there who just came for the band and the line dancing
It was quite fun to watch them all they all knew the different dances for the the songs and looked choreographed
-
Unfortunately watching was our main involvement with the dancing as I manged to wrench my knee today .
I have no idea how I managed this as I wasn't doing anything but leaning into my car to put my purse in the back seat
It didn't bother me so much today while I was walking around at the soup kitchen but by tonight it had started throbbing
My knee emphatically explained to me, after my first attempt at dancing tonight, that I would be an observer rather than a participant

The food was wonderful, barbequed ribs "wet" and "dry", barbequed chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob, home made macaroni and potato salads, green salad, baked beans... and to finish up there was watermelon and homemade rice pudding

My YouTube tribute to the incredible price structure for the upcoming Stevie Wonder mini-tour

but maybe applies to theater prices in a way, too, though theater prices haven't gotten that high yet

Here's a post but I'm not going to bed.

Listening to music.

Watched two weird motion pictures this evening.

Good morning.
I also dislike those very loud rock shows. And it seems more and more shows are going that way.
Earlier this year, I ushered for "The Official Blues Brothers Revue." The show itself was pretty good, but it was much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) too loud! I'd never had to use ear plugs for a show before. I had to leave and get some (the Center provides them free for patrons who need them), otherwise if they didn't I would've had to leave.

Otherwise, the only real Topic of the Day show: the worst production that I've ever seen was a local production of Little Shop of Horrors. The Audrey couldn't really sing on pitch and there was no choreography to speak of. I did a show with one of the Street Urchins a couple of years later and she told me that they pretty much had to make up their own choreography...their "choreographer" had no clew what to do. For "Close for Renovation," the only change was that they brought in one, count 'em, ONE little vase with a flower in it. Nothing else was done to "renovate" the store! WTF?? Their Seymour and their Dentist and the Street Urchins were pretty much the only good things about the show.

That's so cool, BwayAnge!

That was so sweet of you, Vixmom! ;D

Today, I went to the Rose City Comic Con in Portland, Oregon. I went with my niece because she didn't want to go by herself.
-
She wanted to go because she wanted to get (and she got) photographs with a couple of actors that she really likes (they were $30 each!).
-
She also got (paid for by me...I said that it would be her Christmas present ;) ) the autograph of one of the actors that she got a picture with. Autographs and pictures are separate activities. You CANNOT take a photograph yourself when you're getting an autograph. They'll take your money any way they can.

And since we're so close...
