Title: SEQUENCING

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were successfully sequenced, and now it is time for you to post until the sequenced cows come home.

Good morning, all!

Thanks to a twit I know who doesn't listen to me, I must be at Toyland early to use the printer to print out several scores. I told him last week that i would need the files by Sunday morning, since I have more important work than looking over five of his scores and i was going to spend sunday doing him the favor.  So, they arrived in yesterday's emails, and since it's not work but a favor, I would love to tell him to forget it.

But guilt runs big, so I will look at the scores and give my opinion, even if his idiocy screws up my schedule.  I'd rather be home; I've finally got some work since June, and I need the income.  I also cannot schlep much back home from Toyland until the elevator is running again, and that's one more aggravation at the moment.

It's raining. I will go down to Toyland tomorrow. I've got Paint Your Wagon to work on.

And the NYPL at noon.

Because they're older people?  Because they panicked? I don't even know which apartment they were visiting, only that it was on the 4th floor.

I had planned to go help with book sale prep this morning, but hadn't planned to be awake for several hours in the middle of the night unable to sleep.  Didn't get up (the second time) until 9:30.  By the time I had my first cup of coffee, ordered Kritzerland NYC tickets, and had breakfast it was too late to get myself downtown before they'll be ready to quit for the morning.

Oh, well, my absence will enable them to talk about all the ways I'm screwing up as president.

Afternoon, all!

TOD: 1963 seems to be a pretty good year, with two of my all-time favorite scores ("She Loves Me" and "110 in the Shade"), a little British import called "Oliver," and some forgotten shows with some interesting songs ("Hot Spot," "Here's Love," "Tovarich")

Eli: "I'm not. The baby will get most of the attention."

Not to be too gross, but this morning I managed to dislodge two disconcertingly large chunks of ear wax. I know that your sense of balance is contained within the inner ear, and they must have been pressing there, because once they came out, I got terribly dizzy.

It finally subsided enough that I felt safe to drive to the pharmacy. When I asked about over-the-counter aids to combat nausea, the pharmacist suggested ginger or flat coca-cola. I decided to purchase some generic dramamine. So far, it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.      :P

DR Singdaw I would have expected dizziness to go away, not arrive.  I hope you are feeling better.  I prefer Bonine as it is chewable and I have more control over how much I take.  I've only used it for motion sickness but I have known doctors to recommend Bonine or Dramamine as you are using it.

The few times I tried Dramamine for going out on a friend's boat, it never did much for me.  Even if it did, in fact, prevent a touch of seasickness (I always eventually got used to it and would gain my sea legs after several hours or a day or more), it gave me a weird feeling in the head.  Or something.  I don't remember too clearly and haven't tried it in years.  Of course that's mainly because I finally learned to stay off the damned water!   :)

Well, I must be off.  Several of us on the Theater Artists Olympia board are having a meeting to plan our second annual "TAO of the Dead" fund raiser.  It'll be on November 1, which is the Day of the Dead...get it?? ;)

Be back later!

Someone at the office said that I "use antique language" the other day... (and this someone is a only a couple of years younger than I)  when I used the phrase "turn out your pockets"

(which I thought a perfectly normal and serviceable phrase)
Title: Re: SEQUENCING
Post by: vixmom on September 30, 2014, 07:31:55 PM
She then started pointing out  other examples of my "antique language",  such as the fact that  I regularly use words such as "therefore" and "henceforth" and "alternately" in my conversations.

Well here is the update.

I am getting another MRI for my knee.

The thyroid doctor will call me tomorrow to discuss "a plan of care" as the phone message said today.

I am wondering what that means. Is it better than I thought it would be or worse? I will be anxious to hear what he has to say.

Mr. Gunn was charming and handsome and sang beautifully. His wife was equally accomplished.

One interesting thing: she accompanied the entire recital from an iPad propped on the piano rack. Therefore, she didn't require a page-turner, accomplishing the task herself. I personally would be worried about paging more than one page ahead with an errant swipe of the finger.

DR vixmom, a few people have pointed out my own use of an occasional word or phrase that strikes them as somehow antiquated.  Either that, or they're fooled into thinking I'm British or something because I "speak so correctly".

What's hard to believe is that you're getting it from somewhere of almost the same age.  But your example of her own speech habits would seem to explain all.

Got to cover the boxes on one side of the house tonight, which means the uber-rich folks. And man, were they nasty. Out of four boxes, three complained that the one waiter assigned to the area wasn't fast enough. One guy even left the box and yelled at me down the hallway. When they finally assigned a second waiter, everyone had had enough to drink, so it was too late.

Then one woman complained about the quality of the vodka. She earned no sympathy from me. I can't stand the stuff.

But Santana was wonderful. He played for about two hours, a lively mix of classics like "Evil Ways" and "Oye Como Va" and the new stuff, including "Corazon."

He had a great band with him, and they were able to solo or duet with him on some interesting stuff that he's not known for, including "Rose of San Antone" for the audience, a Miles Davis piece, the Police's "Roxanne," etc.

Title: Re: SEQUENCING

It's a reissue of a CD that's been OOP for almost fifteen years, and this release blows the previous release to hell and back - that release was in mono save for a handful of stereo tracks included as bonus tracks, due to not being able to use the bulk of the stereo at that point in time.  Thanks to all this new-fangled technology, we reverse the balance and present most of the score, 90% of it in stereo, with only a handful of mono tracks that are so seamlessly used you won't even notice.

Every once in a while, I'll use something like "with whom" or "about which."  In the musical Blondel, one of the songs has the line, "Include me out."  I've used that a couple of times and gotten weird looks.  My plan worked!

;)

A few years ago, I was riding in a car with a friend and she waited a little to long to make a left turn, and then had to wait a little longer for cars to pass and she said, "I shoulda went."
