and back to TODAY's TOD....

not really a 'fad'  but I would like to go back to a trend where people dressed for the occasion: wore their "Sunday  best" to church, to the theatre, to a dinner out...  nowadays it appears that  most people feel that old denims and Tshirts with any old saying, vulgar or not, are appropriate attire no matter where you happen to be.

TOD  part Two... having been dress shopping for the upcoming wedding .... and having seen parts of myself in the tri view mirror that I normally cannot see, I would like to see a return to hoop skirts...

or at least bustle skirts.... I wouldn't even have to buy a bustle

Good morning, all!

I have physical therapy this morning, and I will go from there to City Center for more PAINT YOUR WAGON scores, visit a bit with Joshie, and head home. I have no $20 to do last me till the end of the week, so I'm moving as little as possible. I need to find a millionaire singer who wants some orchestrations and arrangements.

Thank you, DR vixmom!  I did not get out yesterday much, only a trip to market for some lactose-free milk.

I slept poorly last night: the heat has been turned on in the building, which is ridiculous, since it isn't that chilly outside yet, but it's too warm in this apartment. I turned off the radiator, but it's doing nothing to cool things down.

Good morning, all.

Had a pretty decent sleep.  Probably got about eight hours, and I hate to say it but that's way better than normal.  And thus begins my four days off from the show, during which I must relax, but also get many many things done around the place, both inside and out.

I'm up, I've announced and I'm sure I'll go back to bed shortly.  Meantime, here's the proper blurb for Rio Conchos.

Kritzerland is proud to present a new limited edition soundtrack:

RIO CONCHOS

Music Composed and Conducted by Jerry Goldsmith

In 1964, Twentieth Century-Fox released a widescreen western called Rio Conchos.  The film was an “A” production with a strong cast, including Richard Boone, Stuart Whitman, Jim Brown, Tony Franciosa and the great Edmond O’Brien.  The film was hard-edged, fast-paced and action-packed, but with strong characters and a story that kept you involved from start to finish.

By the time of Rio Conchos, composer Jerry Goldsmith was well on his way to becoming one of the busiest of the then-new composers scoring films.  He’d already done great work for television, scoring several memorable and classic Playhouse 90, Twilight Zone and Thriller episodes among many others, including his wonderful theme and occasional score for Dr. Kildare.

His film career had really taken off quickly and in a big way in the early 1960s.  Before Rio Conchos Goldsmith had really only scored one western film, his very first feature film score, the 1957 film Black Patch.  He’d scored a few western TV episodes from Wagon Train, Gunsmoke, Rawhide and Have Gun – Will Travel and he’d also scored Lonely Are the Brave, which could be considered a modern-day western of sorts.

But with Rio Conchos, Goldsmith immediately showed that he could score westerns with the best of them and it began a long and fruitful association with Twentieth Century-Fox.  He would, of course, go on to score many other notable westerns, including Stagecoach, Hour of the Gun, Bandolero!, 100 Rifles, The Ballad of Cable Hogue, Rio Lobo, Wild Rovers and others.  But his score for Rio Conchos remains high at the top of that great list – like the film, his score is hard-edged, fast-paced and action-packed, with a memorable main theme that is one of his best.

The original soundtrack was previously released on Film Score Monthly, with the entire score presented in mono with a handful of stereo cues, the only stereo that could, at that time, be saved due to extreme wow and flutter.  But thanks to new technologies that have emerged in the last couple of years, Mike Matessino was able to go back to the original elements and perform a miracle of a stereo restoration for the entire score except for three cues – those three cues are presented so seamlessly you might not even be aware they are mono.  The sound is amazing and really shows off Goldsmith’s superb score in the best possible way.

Rio Conchos is limited to 1200 copies only and priced at $19.98, plus shipping.   CDs will ship by the third week of November, but we’ve been averaging three to five weeks early in terms of shipping ahead of the official ship date.  To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Yesterday was too busy. Three hours of dance practice after church. Then I ushered for a three-hour Christian rap concert featuring someone named Lecrae. Not my kind of music, but the show was sold out and no one had volunteered to usher for it. We were understaffed and one of the ushers just up and left without checking out. The music was loud and people were complaining about it being too low. Despite the volume, I fell asleep a couple of times.

CD ordered.

Took sister Molly to Aldi's this morning where we grocery shopped.  I got $144 worth of staples that probably would have cost me $50 more at my regular store.....

Since I won some money last week, I am taking Molly shopping this afternoon for a new dress and shoes to wear to the wedding this weekend - but I may just find something for myself as well.

I'm back to reality after my theatre-packed stay in New York.   Paul and I saw 6 shows and I loved 4: Cabaret, Beautiful, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder and On the Town.   I liked It's Only a Play.  Hedwig not so much ( but I did like a couple of songs).  It's Only a Play had several big laughs but I sure didn't think it was as hilarious as many members of the audience.

I've decided to get a ticket for The Bandwagon at City Center.  There are discount tickets at broadwaybox.com but they're only good for certain seats, including the first 3 rows, which are called "orchestra pit" seats.  Does anyone have experience with them and know if the views are good?

Can't answer your question, DR KevinH, but wanted to tell you that Richard and I have tickets for Friday, November 14.

Have had a mostly lovely day - one piece of annoyance, but I'm just not letting it annoy me, frankly.  I am done with these kinds of things annoying me.  Have had a healthy day of orders for Rio Conchos - again, I wish we could sell more on the site itself, but the dealers have ordered really large quantities - but I don't see that dough for four weeks after we ship, which won't be for another two weeks.

I am currently reading THE QUEEN'S FOOL by Philippa Gregory.  I am really enjoying it.

I am starting to really like historical fiction.

I picked it up along with THE CONSTANT PRINCESS also by Philippa Gregory at the library for twenty five cents.

I loved  The Queens' Fool  and also liked the Constant Princess  after the "Constant Princess" you should read  "The Other Sister"

Waiting in a doctor's office and having to listen to Fox. There outtabe a law.

I thinks news period should not be in the waiting room of a doctor's office.  TV at all if I have total control.

Total Control! But what if everyone in the waiting room doesn't want to watch the Berner Channel?

2. No Groaning allowed
3. read DR Laura's quotes

I am fading fast. It has been an exhausting day.

I got to the doctor's lab at 8 a.m., got all the CT scans done by 10:30 and headed off to the office. I got a call just as I got to work that hey needed me to go back and have two of the scans done over again because they didn't come out right.

So, I finally got to work after 11 a.m., missed two meetings, but was in time for six more. Stayed a little late, but I'm just wasted.

Not even the adrenaline in "Crank 2" can wake me up.

The weird thing is that I did go to a post of hers and then I clicked on her name to view her last posts.  But these posts do not show any quotations, hence why I was confused.  It's harder to go back through individual posts. Whenever I want to see what someone said I always just view "last posts". Didn't work in this case.

Far more interesting than "Crank 2" is "The Mind of a Chef," the PBS series. I'm watching the season with Edward Lee, who was a contender on "Top Chef" before writing a great cookbook called "Smoke and Pickles."

Lee owns several restaurants in Louisville and he's coming to town this Friday for a cooking class that I'm going to. Should be fun.

The "Nice Lady" is someone I met out hiking. She came to church with me one day and has been coming as often as she can. She convinced us to enter photos. Luckily, when Wae-Ling took a good photo, I renamed it with her name so I could keep track of which ones were hers.

I awoke at 12:30 and i cannot get back to sleep.

I had one encounter with Geoffrey Holder in 1973: Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. Carmen de Lavillade was performing and he came to see herand their son Leo.  Carmen was my date to a showing of the Pabst film Die Dreigroschenoper at Tanglewood.

I've known Marian Seldes for nearly 35 years. I hadn't seen her since I saw her backstage after the revival of Anouilh's Ring Round the Moon. I have a signed copy of her autobiography. Between 1981 and 1983, she would stop into Theatrebooks at 48th and Seventh to visit on matinee days of Deathtrap.  As soon as her character was dead, she'd run out the stagedoor in full makeup and shop until it was time for the curtain call.

Well, we had a pretty good run-through (just over 2 hours with the intermission), but it needs to be tightened up...and the sound cues aren't finalized.  They're mostly done, but a few need to be swapped out.  They're just not right, yet.
