Well, you've read the notes, the notes had not enough hollandaise, and now it is time for you to post until the hollandaise cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CLERISY!
-
First after BK! That hasn't happened in along time.
-
Great to hear that George's opening night went well, and with an appreciative audience!!!
-
Thanks to vixmom, TCB and George for your wishes last night!
-
Congratulations to Jrand! You deserve every accolade you get and then some!
-
Looking forward to Bruce's shows in NYC!
-
good morning to all
-
i have a whole bunch of movies from TCM to catch up on including Sunday Bloody Sunday which I've never seen
-
Good morning, all! I thought I was coming down with a cold yesterday, so i went to bed around 7:30 and slept for about eleven hours. It may be allergies, but the sleep helped.
I will head to physical therapy in another hour. When I get home, I have a lot of laundry to do, about two weeks of it, thanks to my current limited income and the unavailability of the laundry room while the elevator was out.
-
Good morning, all.
An okay sleep, but of course I could have used another decent hour. Alas, it is not to be. And so I say to you all.....
Coffee!
-
I have some music to work on today. And I should try to get outside and do the first big leaf-blowing of the season, but I don't know if that will happen.
-
TOD:
CDs -- ROBERTA, AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND, RAGTIME.
I won't have much time for movies till probably Sunday evening, but I have the DVD of RAGTIME standing by for my second viewing, the first having been the week it opened, nearly 33 years ago. I'm almost done reading the novel, again for my first time since it first appeared.
-
Glad that your opening performance went well, DR George.

This event may be of some interest to our NYC-area Dear Readers:
A Leonard Bernstein Mass Symposium
The Aaron Copland School of Music and the Kupferberg Center for the Arts will present a fully staged performance of Leonard Bernstein "Mass" on Nov. 1 and 2 at Colden Auditorium in Queens College. Leading up to the performance, on Oct. 21 a panel of experts will discuss the composer, the work, the premiere, and the legacy of Bernstein's most ambitious and once controversial composition.
Participants:
Maurice Peress, conductor of the 1971 premiere and the current production.
Gordon Davidson, stage director of the 1971 premiere.
Jamie Bernstein, daughter of the composer and a composer and writer herself.
Michael Hume, chorus member at the premiere, and later performed the role of Celebrant.
Lorca Peress, stage director for the current production.
Doors will open at 6:30
Symposium will start at 7:00
Macaulay Honors College (Cabaret Space)

Well, here we all are-- and on a Friday!
-
I love RADIO DAYS. Also THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO, CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS, HANNAH AND HER SISTERS and many more of Woody's films.
Yes, there have been some turkeys (CELEBRITY, YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER), but even his lesser movies have something worthwhile in them.
I think his worst movies are the ones in which he writes a role for himself, then casts another actor and directs him to play the part in his (i.e. Allen's) rhythms.
In any event, he is one of my favorite directors.
-
Hey! I've reached 6000 posts.

TOD:
No idea what I will watch this weekend.
-
We are going to see THE KING AND I this weekend at the Zach.
I've never seen it on stage before, so it should be fun.
I have a friend in the cast.
-
Good morning, all.
Congratulations on your milestone, DR Druxy.
-
I have always been a fan of Radio Days. Saw in the theater the night it opened, back when a Woody Allen movie opening in upstate New York still drew large audiences. The crowd laughed at lines like "Who's Pearl Harbor?" and there was silence while Keaton sang "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To." A great moviegoing experience.
I own a VHS of the movie, but I don't have it on DVD and haven't watched it in a few years. I may have to correct that.

I wonder how I'd like the Bernstein MASS now. I know it's enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years. When the original recording was released, just before I moved to L.A., I was quite taken with it. I saw that production at the Mark Taper, and bought the vocal score (probably at DeKeyser Music) which I still have. But my fondness for it eventually took a dive, and it's been many years since I've listened to it. I heard a few bits of a recent recording or performance on the radio last year and thought it was okay, but I wasn't compelled to jump back into it.
-
Milestone congrats to Druxy!

I simply love the Bernstein Mass. Yes, I get that the "drama" is a bit heavy-handed. But I think the MUSIC is eclecticism taken to genius level.
-
Friday morning greetings! Another gloomy autumn day in SW Ohio...
-
Perfect pitch:
When you throw a viola into a trash can and hit an accordion....
I think I posted that a couple of weeks ago, but it bears repeating.
-
Today is the wedding rehearsal and dinner.....so that should be fun. I have never been to the Indiana Historical Society building where the rehearsal and wedding will be, so it will be fun to see their new facility. It is downtown on the canal just a few blocks from Lucas Oil Stadium.
The dinner is at the recording studio owned by the groom.....I think he had lunch with MR BK a many years ago when he was in L.A.

Page Two IHS building interior dance.
I think this is where the ceremony will be held. With the tables moved of course and special seating in place.

With dancing afterwards on the Stardust Terrace.
-
DR JRand, what a beautiful wedding venue - have fun this weekend and best wishes to the bride and groom!
-
Darn....ALL THAT JAZZ is sold out....but the Criterion SPIKE sale continues for a few more hours.
Thanks to DR CHAS SMITH for the link.
DR DRUXY got quite a bargain at WB.....serves them right for overcharging for all of their other stuff....
-
Thank you DR GINNY.....there will be photos!

TOD:
Downton Abbey Season Five - the first three episodes.
CD: home grown collection of "Answer Songs"
-
DR Jrand64, I don't know if you shop at Costco, but ALL THAT JAZZ is one of the Criterions they currently stock, and they're always priced at $19.99.
-
DR SingSing, I just riffled through the MASS score and I will give it a new listen one of these days. I no longer have the original LPs, but I'd just as soon hear someone else's take on it anyway. I've always felt that for all of his genius, Bernstein was rarely the best conductor of his own music, and for my taste, some of those recordings grew wearying over time.
(Edit: I keep typing wrong words! All day I've been doing this.)
-
It's kind of fun to watch the Criterion countdown. I got on there as soon as I got the email yesterday, and was able to grab all the recent releases I wanted. Those always go first, then you watch as certain titles compete with each other for "top seller", and finally, as "sold outs", and it moves slowly from recent releases to quite old ones as people grab what they can.
-
THE INNOCENTS and Polanski's MACBETH sold out very quickly yesterday, with ALL THAT JAZZ not far behind.
-
I'm just rattling on here.
-
As I wait to go with a friend to our semi-annual big breakfast at Denny's.
-
We don't plan it that way, or any way at all, but it seems to work out to a twice yearly thing.
-
KAGEMUSHA is a top seller, too. I haven't seen it and it sounds great, but I blew the wad yesterday so I'll put that one on my list for the November B&N sale.
-
It just moved from "top seller" to "running low". Good for them. Looks like ROSEMARY'S BABY might be heading down that path, too.

Thanks DR SINGDAW....we hope so.
DR CHAS SMITH I am not a member of Costco, and I am not sure if there is one in my area....I shall have to investigate.
-
Kate, The Departed is very violent and not one of my favorite Scorcese movies, but it was the only one of his to bring him an Oscar and grab Best Picture.

Thanks and THANKS!! :D

I'm up, I'm up. This time I slept four hours before I awoke, needing a short trip to the loo (ool, spelled backwards), then it took an hour to fall asleep again, then the phone rang at 9:20 (spam), then I slept until it rang again a few minutes ago - I think if you add all that up maybe I got seven or eight hours but I would dearly love to sleep eight hours without the distractions.
-
DR Jrand64, I don't know if you shop at Costco, but ALL THAT JAZZ is one of the Criterions they currently stock, and they're always priced at $19.99.
I actually just got it at Costco a couple of weeks ago.

Hey! I've reached 6000 posts.
Congrats, Druxy!

I have been home for two hours now, but once again, Time warner internet was down. I called tech support and literally asked WTF? It was down Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, so WTF?

A new tradition was born at last night's opening of CABARET at The University of Michigan:
The Michigan Robe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZKGJee3DsI&feature=youtu.be)
"Hail to the Victors" isn't just about football or my cell phone ringtone - Go, Blue!
-
Very interesting DR GINNY.
I shall soon be off....

I called tech support and literally asked WTF?
One can only imagine the response.
It is a COINCIDENCE that this started happening only after you got the new router?
-
CONGRATULATIONS to DR Druxy on his new perch in the HHW firmament. :)
-
It is a COINCIDENCE that this started happening only after you got the new router?
Is it COINCIDENCE that I'm trying to log on to my new router via the browser and the connection is timing out?
-
Should I call Xfinity and ask WTF?
-
Googled, and my problem seems to be an ongoing one with these "wireless gateways". There's a way to get it to work again, but it requires resetting the thing to factory defaults. Not important now, I just wanted to look around.
-
DR George, I hope you're feeling better today!
-
Thanks, John G.
I don't know if I will watch THE DEPARTED now because I really don't like to watch Violent Movies.
-
Goodbye for now!!!
-
Excellent Filichia on Friday today for those who are Cabaret fans.

I want to thank all those who convinced me, by your recommendations, to watch "Bernie". We did so last night and it was good.

Darn, I forgot to look. Where were you?
-
DR George, I hope you're feeling better today!
Thanks, Ginny...but sadly, I'm not yet. :(
-
We have been watching "The Lone Ranger". Keith pulled up the Wikipedia article on the history of the Lone Ranger and I was surprised to read....
"The radio series inspired a spinoff called The Green Hornet, which depicts the son of the Lone Ranger's nephew Dan, who in contemporary times fights crime with a similar secret identity and a sidekick, Kato."
-
I'm sorry you don't feel better DR George. I'm still fighting without having a cold.

Feel better vibes to DRs George and Jane!

In small-town Texas, an affable mortician strikes up a friendship with a wealthy widow, though when she starts to become controlling, he goes to great lengths to separate himself from her grasp.

We're watching THE NANCE on Live from Lincoln Center and I can't believe this same program bleeped s*%# out of SWEENEY TODD a couple of weeks ago.

Page four? Really? No posts in over an hour? Really?

Thank you Jennifer.
VIBES YOUR BIKE LASTS ANOTHER MONTH!!!!
Will you ask your parent's for a new bike for your birthday :)
Probably. I don't think they even sell bikes here till the Spring.
The problem with my bike is the handlebars. They have been loosening up (so you could move them up and down). This is quite dangerous. But I've been able to tighten them so they don't move at all. And I've been trying to only start without putting my weight on them. But yesterday they had a lot of the lake blocked off. So i kept having to stop and start. And by the time I got home things were not good. It was very hard to tighten them today.
I may be able to borrow a man's bike. But I don't know if i'd be comfortable driving it. Also a neighbour has a women's bike not in use. But not sure if it's in good riding condition.
:(

It's based on a true story. Jane, have you heard what the real-life followup to the story is?
-
The doctor says I'll be fine, but I feel like I've dyed a little inside.
Keep up that kind of punning and you'll get punished.

Went to a cooking class with Edward Lee, who was on Top Chef during the season when they filmed in San Antonio. He has a restaurant in Louisville, so it was good to talk with him about my old hometown. He also gave me a few recommendations of places to go to when I'm there at Christmas.
The best dishes he made were a seaweed risotto with shrimp and clams that had an almost coconut flavor to it and a sweet potato noodle dish with thin strips of beef short rib.
-
Now it's time to watch the rest of "Her." Don't like Joaquin Phoenix, but Amy Adams in a small part is outrageously good.
-
Good evening.
Back from a pretty good show. The Friday nights are the tough ones and they're more prone to a few wobbles, but said wobbles were the kind that are undetectable by mere mortals, so all was fine.
-
you'll get punished
Is that a threat, or a promise? 8)

I went to THE JUDGE tonight. I really enjoyed it.

Had a really good week at work. I'm really feeling good about work again and being where I need to be

Good night, all.
Except Singdaw, because he wants to be punished.

Thanks, Jane! The show went well, but the audience wasn't as responsive as the night before. They did enjoy it, though.

We're watching THE NANCE on Live from Lincoln Center and I can't believe this same program bleeped s*%# out of SWEENEY TODD a couple of weeks ago.
It's on here, too! I didn't know. Fortunately, it's going to be rebroadcast on Sunday. :)
