Well, you've read the notes, they don't make the notes like that anymore, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they don't make the cows like that anymore either.

Today is the last performance of Theater Artists Olympia's production of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) [revised]."  It was a great show and even though everyone who saw it really enjoyed it, we just didn't have a LOT of audience members.  We did, however, end up making a profit. :D

This is the cousin from PA who's a very funny comedian-on-the-rise (as well as being a local Scranton reporter)  who had as a comic tag line for quite a while "Why do women hate me?  Must be the goddam economy."

But now that he has a terrific fiancee, he'll either have to use that line only in character, or find another catch-phrase.  :)

Good morning, all!

I will be heading down to Toyland very shortly.  I want to drop off some things, pick up a few books and be home as quickly as possible.  In the past week, preparing to ship some things out of here,  I've created a shelving mess in my apartment that I will obsess over until it's tidy again.

Yesterday I had a friend over and we watched a movie from Amazon Prime called Homecoming (Not to be confused with the Pinter play The Homecoming or the The Walton's pilot film: The Homecoming: A Christmas Story)  that even Gloria Graham couldn't have saved. If won was to pitch this movie to producers t would be Misery meets Fatal Attraction and a Saturday Night Lights with Fargo weather. Mercifully it ran only 88 minutes and we caught a blooper (shot inconsistency). It played a few cities in July and then went to Lifetime in September. (Minus some language and violence)

Good morning, all.

Crazy, classic dreams last night.  Honestly, I should never have stopped writing dreams down.  At least the big ones.  But I did give that up long ago and I'm not starting again.  Takes too much time and effort.  But it would be fascinating to have documented those dream themes that are one's constants.

Then my friend told me about Crackle on Apple TV an we watched two episodes of All in The Family. We both had seen them of over the years and they are both still funny. Can't say that about most tv comedy series these days. Plus they run 5 minutes with opening and closing credits and the few extra minutes of story plot doesn't feel as the story is being rushed. They really do not make shows like All in the Family.

I'm make an apple-cherry pie.  Hopefully I'll find the time to get that made.

After he left I watch a documentary called American Grindhouse. An interesting film that talked about movies that played Grindhouse cinemas.

It was informative not knowing that it actually began with silent films evolved into tent show curcuit. They included Film Noit movies which I thought was interesting.

There were the heath/hygiene films
The Nudie Cuties which became The Roughies.
and then as times changed politically, socially and economically so did the films.

So of the films clips were gross with over the top violence that they really were absurdist theatre.

Some of the talking heads were weird, but more notable ones (At least to me) John Dante, John Landis, Larry Cohen, Herschell Gordon Lewis. (Lewis actually lives about 25 minutes from)

Not a bad documentary. It could have been longer to focus a little bit more on each "genre" or they could have dropped the silent era and focus more in the "contemporary" era

Greetings from Toyland!  On Sunday mornings the 104 bus runs about every 30 minutes, so I took a taxi to 64th and Broadway ro catch the next 7 bus, paid the driver, and a 7 bus pulled right up! Thanks to no traffic, I was here in less than 15 minutes. I've unpacked my tthings, selected what I will take home, and I hope to be heading back uptown in about 30 minutes.

DR Jrand64, I used a screen protector on my Android for the first year or so, but when that one wore out I found I loved the look and feel of the phone so much more that I decided to trust the "gorilla glass" and leave it off.  And that's served me just fine through this second year with it.  That glass really is great, and the phone looks like new.  (I'm a pretty careful type with such things, anyway.)

At the swim meet yesterday one of the events was 25m back streamline. You basically start in the water like regular back stroke. And you push off the bars and start with an underwater flip kick.  Then you hold your arms out on top of your head and kick really hard.  There is a girl on my niece's swim team who is 10 1/2.  She stayed under water for the entire 25m. It was the craziest thing ever.  In real back stroke you are only allowed to stay under water for a few meters. But there is no such rule for this event. Most swimmers stay under for a couple of meters.  This girl is super tall for her age.  It was the most amazing thing to watch.

I am waiting for them to post the results from the swim meet.  At these meets you don't know your placing until they post the results.  Because boys and girls are in the same heats and it goes by your seed time (fastest time you've swam before).  I think my niece did very well (i know she beat her previous times cause i had a timer).  But i have no idea what her placements could be especially considering there are a lot of older girls on her swim team who are unbelievable (like the girl i mentioned above).

Quote
Are there really documented cases of people getting the flu from getting the flu shot?

You don't actually get the flu from the vaccination.  What you can get is a reaction that feels just like the flu.  With your resistance down you can then catch the flu once again suffering.

I was allergic to the live virus shot that was used when I was young.  After the 2nd year of having the flu "twice" I didn't get the vaccination again.  I then "only" had the flu once a year.  A few of those were very serious which is why I tried decided, with great trepidation, to get a flu shot even though I hadn't had the flu in a several years.  I was extremely relieved when I didn't react.  I know people who have the same reaction as I did to the live virus form.

Thanks.  I saw a photo of him knocked out.  I didn't read the article to see what they were doing with him.  I'm glad he will be released.  The cub that followed Sherlock & me while we were hiking was never captured due to human exposure.

We were lucky not to have lost our power again.  There were patches that went out in the surrounding areas.  The wind was much calmer today, however, I wore a jacket for the first time.

Remember when Richard walked our DN Lauren down the aisle last summer and danced the father-daughter dance with her?  Well, she and her husband announced on Facebook last night that Baby Goforth will arrive in May!

They'd actually told us 3 weeks ago, but I waited for the official announcement to start spreadin' the news.

Congratulations to Lauren and her husband (and the entire family).

If I could find reading glasses that fit I would wear my contacts more.  I looked at some truly ugly ones today.  There were all a retro look in a heavy plastic, very uncomfortable too.  I want light weight glasses.  I'm sure some of them are attractive on the right face, just not mine.

Last evening (early evening) I went out to dinner with a bunch of people I knew growing up.  A girl that lived in the next block growing up.  A guy who lived in the next block.  The first girl I dated.  My best friend in the sixth grade.  The girl I was engaged to when I was in college.  Oh, and a girl from my high school that I have no memory of ever meeting.  It was a fun evening, till we went out into the wind storm.  Amazing that so many people I knewi in grade school are still alive.

I had the flu once. The kids were in preschool, and it was a strain that was hitting young people very hard. All four of us got it. It was horrible. I have had a flu shot every year since. Never want to have the flu again!

Last year they gave me the live-virus sniffy immunization by mistake. So I had that one PLUS a shot.

It is one of the dinosaurs of these types of shops run by a couple of old guys who have repaired appliances their whole lives know excactly what you need and can do the job or talk you through it   What a difference from going to Home Depot or lowers where a 16 year old kid will just stare at you with a puzzled look assuming you can get their attention at all

The guy told vixdad he would need a new motor for $100 and that it would take only a couple of hours to replace the part.  After he bought it he handed vixdad a fan,  here you better take this too. No charge. But you're gonna break the fan when you take out the old motor

Last year they gave me the live-virus sniffy immunization by mistake. So I had that one PLUS a shot.

And you have never had the flu since?

The  Vixfamily three all had the flu back when the Vixter was only about 4 it was a truly miserable experience and we all have gotten the flu shot every year since and have never had the flu since

How was rehearsal, Chas?

I have no idea.  It was fine as another read-through for the orchestra, but we're in a real pit and can see nothing of the stage, so I have no sense of what the production is like.  When I look up toward the stage, it might as well be an opera house or some other huge venue.  I see nothing but lights and a mammoth space. Fortunately, I can go up there Tuesday night when they're running the show with piano, and enjoy sitting out there and seeing it once.

Are you seeing any matinees on saturday or Sunday?

We have made no plans for Saturday or Sunday besides the Kritzerland shows.

It was 89 degrees here. That's better than yesterday's 96, I guess.

I cleaned out the garage, moved all my outdoor furniture etc into the garage for the winter, did some work at the office, bought a new bird feeder and installed it, cleaned the kitchen and did the laundry.  The washer sort of worked right.  I need to call someone to check on it turning on by itself. In the meantime I'm unplugging it when not in use

I always feel like a slacker when I read about Cilla's day

I can't wait until the election is over.  We have a close senate race and I can't stand watching these stupid ads any longer.  Heck, I voted a couple weeks ago, so it's just annoying

Great.  It will probably show up in a bit.

Are you able to arrange for us to all sit together or is that something we individually need to arrange directly with the venue ?

Ate my chicken noodle soup - I clearly asked for a bowl of chicken noodle soup - when I got home I discovered a bowl of matzoh ball soup - not enough broth, which is what I needed, but I have to admit it was very good.

Well, our final performance had yet another small but appreciative audience.  Actually, we had 19 people, which is just about half the house, so that was good.  The three actors were all on and it was a great last performance.

We struck the set and had a small cast party...there were only seven partying, but we all had a great time just chatting and eating and drinking.  One of the actors and his husband (yes, his husband, who also happens to be the president of Theater Artists Olympia) held the party at their house.  It was a great way to end the show.

Now, I just need to compile all the financial stuff and report back to the licensors about our actual ticket sales, which we underestimated.  Oh, well.

Congrats to DN Lauren and her Husband!

Wow, DR Vixmom, I'm impressed that Vixdad fixed your dryer!

Speaking of appliances, the guy who installed our dishwasher yesterday said that life expectancy for them nowadays is only 7-10 years.  He said our old dishwasher was supposed to last 10-15, so we did well using it for 16+.
I have no idea how old my dishwasher is.  It was in the house when I bought it and looked old then.  That was 8 years ago

I don't know how old my kitchen appliances are, either.  I bought my washer and dryer when I moved into my condo, which was eight years ago, this month!
