Well, you've read the notes, the notes were unexpected and the third kind, and now it is time for you to post until the unexpected cows come home.

Yesterday Anthony's mother's laptop (it's our old laptop from 2008) finally gave up the ghost. We gave it to her in 2010 when I bought a new laptop and she's been using it every day. She loves having a computer.

As I said, it's an old machine. It has XP and while it was a good machine when first purchased but in computer years it's ancient and it's not worth the money or trouble to fix it. I went on line to Dell and found a good replacement machine and ordered it for her. I'm having it sent here and I will set it up and then take it out to Long Island and give it to her. The laptop shipped early this morning and it should be here on Friday so I have my weekend set out for me.

She knows we are doing this and she's very happy. She had said "just tell me what to buy and I'll go to Best Buy and get something" She's not terribly computer savvy and I didn't want her doing that since she would definitely end up with a Windows 8 machine and it would probably have all sorts of things she doesn't need. Since Dell still sells Windows 7 machines I got her this one and it should work out fine. She won't have it until next weekend but they have an even older desktop computer in the basement (another one of our old machines) and if she really needs to check her e-mail she can go down there. It's an ancient machine and she can't watch her Acorn TV on but she'll survive until next Saturday the 8th.

That's the news from here.

Hey, Fred, I forgot to add my congratulations yesterday for your triumph!

Thanks, Ben.

It feels really great to have written something that the leading lady was able to find an award-worthy performance, and of course we all also credit the director and music director (who was also her supporting actress) a lot toward that.

The Jacques Tati set was sent to me yesterday for review.  I'd never seen a Tati film before.

Thus far, I have only watched one film (JOUR de FETE), and although I readily agree that Tati is a marvelous physical comedian, I'm wondering if his humor would be more effective in 1-2 reel films, rather than features.

The primary thing that bothered me is that this 85-90 minute movie had virtually no plot.  It was was really one extended situation that allowed Tati to do his schtick.  Funny?  Yes, but even Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd, the greatest of all physical comedians, had plots for their films.

In looking the synopses for the other features in this collection, it appears that none of them have real plots; just situations.  But, I could be wrong.

Wednesday morning greetings!  I was up at 8 to move my car out of the garage because we were expecting Duke Energy between 9 and 1 to pick up our old refrigerator for recycling (and a $30 credit).  They came about 10, so our old fridge is history.  I've made a meat loaf for tonight's dinner and am about to make myself presentable for errands and a visit to Mom.

I am home from Toyland! I had a lovely visit with Mr Anthony Morelli, printed out a score, which I will bind this weekend, and headed home.  It's a hellish traffic day; I waited over 20 minutes for a No 7 bus, and then three showed up at the same time.  The least the damned MTA could do at 27th and Sixth Avenue is install a bus stop with a bench. Standing 20 minutes with the back I have is no party.

Tom, that sucks about the physical. I hope it all works out for you.

Thank you, Ben, it did work out.  I called the health plan i have for my supplement and they told my doctor's office was crazy.  Physicals are covered 100%.  Now I need to reschedule.

That's great news, Tom!

Well, I believe I am up.  What a night.  I had some kind of weird heartburn, which is odd since I ate nothing whatsoever that would cause such a thing, and I don't think I actually fell asleep until after four.  I think I ended up with about seven hours of sleep.

It was probably caused by all of the Aleve you took yesterday.

A study shows that eating dark chocolate can potentially improve your memory by 25%, but you'd have to eat at least seven bars per day.

And I'm like, "So?"

LOL That was also my reaction.  I think the sugar in the bars would counter the good from the chocolate.  I wish I liked my chocolate without the sweet.

Wednesday morning greetings!  I was up at 8 to move my car out of the garage because we were expecting Duke Energy between 9 and 1 to pick up our old refrigerator for recycling (and a $30 credit).

I had to read this twice.  Not only did you get someone to pick up your old frig for free, but they paid you $30 to do so!!!!  :o

these days with metal recycling all the rage it has become a lot easier ti get it hauled away for free or to be paid for it   there was probably a good amount of copper wiring in that old refrigerator

We have an ongoing  scrap metal drive at church - we used the proceeds for various property projects around the church -  they were very happy to get the old motor from our dryer as it was full of copper  wire (though the chair said he was disappointed I didn't need a new dryer as he had been counting on the entire dryer for the metal drive! )

I have had the chance to ride my bike twice.  It is quite different from my old one.  The tires are a bit thinner. The seat is wider.  I am loving the mirror (helps me see if other bikes are coming up behind me and i can see cars beside me). I love the odometer (it has a clock. the temperature outside, speed, calories, how far i go...).

I got a bike license today.  apparently they are mandatory but it is not enforced since i have number 70.

The only part i am not thrilled out is that you now have to put them on your wheel (which means taking off the wheel). I just watched a youtube tutorial which seemed quite easy. But i may ask a friend of my mom's to help me since he used to ride a lot.

Back from Dr. Chew.  He took one look at the tooth in question (I was wrong, it was the very last tooth on the lower right - a real tooth - and said "That's coming out right now."  He'd been monitoring it over the last few visits, but it was infected, loose, and had risen a quarter of an inch, which is why I thought it was a crown come loose.  So, the shot me up with a LOT of Novocain, began wiggling the tooth, which was hugely painful, shot me up with more Novocain then did something quite brilliant.  He said, "I'm just going to wiggle the tooth some more so you can tell me if you need more Novocain.  He did so, it was still pretty painful and I was about to tell him yes, but he'd already extracted the tooth.  Then I had to bite on some gauze as I drove home, and I picked up some oxycillian or whatever it's called, just took two of those (it's to kill germs and infection), and then I take one every eight hours till they're gone.

Took the gauze out and am hoping I don't have to bite on any more, although he gave me a gauze packet, just in case.  I will have to take two Tylenol when I eat as this is going to give me a doozy of a headache when the Novocain wears off.  Tonight it will just be eggs, probably.

But we are from from done with this.  In about a month, I have to go to an oral surgeon - my bone below the gum line is very strong and healthy, but they now have to artificially build it all the way up just past the gum line.  Once that's done, then it's back to Dr. Chew who does the final step of that process.  Once that's all done, then he'll put a porcelain crown on it.  That whole process takes four to six months.

I was recently reminded of this -  I always liked it .  Please  skip it if its not your cuppa  :)

God Will Save Me

A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately.

A faithful Christian man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”

The neighbors came by his house and said to him, “We’re leaving and there is room for you in our car, please come with us!” But the man declined. “I have faith that God will save me.”

As the man stood on his porch watching the water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by and called to him, “Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!” But the man again said, “No thanks, God will save me.”

The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into his living room and the man had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw him at the window. “We will come up and rescue you!” they shouted. But the man refused, waving them off saying, “Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!”

The flood waters rose higher and higher and the man had to climb up to his rooftop.

A helicopter spotted him and dropped a rope ladder. A rescue officer came down the ladder and pleaded with the man, "Grab my hand and I will pull you up!" But the man STILL refused, folding his arms tightly to his body. “No thank you! God will save me!”

Shortly after, the house broke up and the floodwaters swept the man away and he drowned.

When in Heaven, the man stood before God and asked, “I put all of my faith in You. Why didn’t You come and save me?”

And God said, “Son, I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more were you looking for?”

I've heard this before but in the second line where you have:

A faithful Christian man heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to himself, “I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a divine miracle to save me.”

...the line I'd heard was just "...then God will save me."  And the last line was God saying, "What did you expect? A miracle?"

The Actors Fund will present a one-night benefit concert presentation of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol — based on the prime-time animated holiday special — Dec. 15 at 7:30 PM at The Gerald W. Lynch Theatre at John Jay College.

Directed by Peter Flynn with musical direction by Emmy Award winner John McDaniel and choreography by Marcos Santana, the cast will include Jeff Blumenkrantz, John Bolton, Jennifer Cody, Don Darryl Rivera, Matthew Scott, two-time Tony Award nominee Christopher Sieber and Betsy Wolfe.

The evening will also feature the original orchestrations — heard live for the first time — with a full orchestra.

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol features a score by composer Jule Styne and lyricist Bob Merrill. The musical is described as "a delightful retelling of the Dickens classic, featuring the comically myopic cartoon character Quincy Magoo."

Originally airing in December 1962, "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" was the first animated holiday special ever produced specifically for television.

A friend in town has been hired to be the publicist for Cheyenne Jackson's new film, which is premiering in December here in SA. Seems rudy's going to invite me to the premiere and set up an interview. Sounds like fun.

That would be SIX DANCE LESSONS.

Nope. It's "The One I Wrote for You." The preview gives you the whole movie. Still, it looks fun.

I am a cross between Ben and TCB, back when I thought my demise was possibly more imminent I gave instructions that there was to be no wake, and that I was to be cremated.  I do want a memorial service in church though... on a weekend or evening  to avoid inconveniencing people

When you are in to genealogy and visiting grave sites it seems odd to be cremated, but that is what I think we will do.  Either way, we will be together.

Services are for the living and I don't think my family will care if there is one for me.  I would like someone to say Kadish.  I suppose I should let my wishes be known on this one ;D

When my mom was killed, we realized that she had never mentioned her wishes to anyone.  So we buried her next to my sister's father-in-law.  I had no plans of my own, so I bought the plot next to my mom.  One big happy family.  At least everybody knows what I want.  All of the burial costs are taken care of, but I will let my sister my the casket!

Glad that bk's dental problem was resolved for now. Having had a LOT of dental work done over the past year, I would say that I hate extractions much more than fillings or root canals, because they are more invasive and much more labor intensive in the recovery. The prime objective is to let the clot form and then not do anything (like drinking through a straw) to disturb it. Believe you me, you do NOT want to get dry socket.

Bleeding completely stopped around seven, so that was good.  For dinner, a friend came and we went to Jerry's and I had an omelet with cheese and avocado, which was great, actually.  I drank the Diet Coke from the glass, but only really about four small sips - the rest was just water.  Then we came back home and watched a movie.  The Novocain wore off so there is some pain there, but the big pain is now all gone.  In about thirty minutes I take my antibiotic, then will go to bed.
