The 41st Annual Village Halloween Parade (http://www.halloween-nyc.com/) ends at our street (literally, it goes from Spring Street and 6th Avenue in Soho to 16th Street and 6th Avenue in Chelsea) so we don't leave the house after 6 or 6:30. It becomes a madhouse. We can see most of the remnants of the parade from our window so there is no need to try and beat the crowds and watch it on the street. We just watch the dispersing crowd from our window.
"When that Midnight Choo-Choo Leaves for Alabam"!
I slept over eleven hours.
A cold wind is blowing.
DR Jane re: my mom being out of the country and telling people things.
No she isn't emailing people she is video chatting on the ipad. The thing with my niece had just happened the same morning. It was just weird that my sister called me at 8am and my mom had already told me (since she had talked to her at 7am). :)
I am hoping it won't rain tonight.
Friday morning greetings! Well, our early trick or treaters had much nicer weather than those who will be out tonight. We have freeze warnings and predictions for blustery rain.
BOO!!!
I think dentists get special training for that look. It always precedes some costly resolution to what they perceive to be your problem.
I'm off on a trip for most of the weekend, so will miss New York Halloween festivities. The next-door neighbors do it up very classily and festively, and have started putting up their decorations.
Page 2! Here's a picture of Mom and me at a Halloween party in the early '60s. I was a wind-up doll with a big foil-covered cardboard key on my back. Mom was, well, Mom...

Regarding our "Stone Soup" entry:
We won! We won! By 2 points, we WON! We had 4 other departments join up as one to try to beat us. The trouble they had was that the people who can "afford" to contribute only bring in a little. It's those who know what it is to run out of food who contribute the most. Since our department is more blue collar than white collar, we get more contributions.
In my humble opinion, of course.
We decided, though, that this would be the last "intramural" competition. Next year, we will work together as an Agency and put forth our efforts to defeat other agencies (who joined the competition last year). (This year, only the food will be combined to represent our agency. Our (BMD) winning theme will be the County submission for our agency. We will not win. Last year our food donations were less than half that of another agency's. Oh, well.
I'm so excited.
I get one extra hour of sleep this weekend!
Oh! How I hate to get up in the morning when it's cloudy and rainy.
Does BBC America show prrograms unedited? I was watching an episode of TORCHWOOD today. One of the main characters (Owen) had just made love with a gril from the past (don't ask) and afterward he said to her, "Maybe we could become f*** buddies. I was kind of shocked, because I know the series was made for BBC America. Are they allowed to say that on BBCA?
Unfortunately, I only know what happened to one girl in each photo (besides myself).
Jeanne, maybe it IS an implant they're doing. I don't know what that means, though.
Went and had some penne pasta with creamy tomato sauce - first good meal I've had in three days and it WAS good!
We just finalized the cover for MURDER IN BABYLON, my forthcoming William Desmond Taylor novel, which should be available on Amazon and elsewhere by early December. BearManor Media is publishing.
The image is, apparently, too large to post here, but it's on my FB page if you want to take a look.
I just finished my annual self-evaluation. :P
But what IS an implant? Isn't it a cap of some sort or tooth of some sort?
But what IS an implant? Isn't it a cap of some sort or tooth of some sort?
It's a fake tooth where part of it is implanted into your jaw in the hole where your tooth used to be...or something like that. It's a permanent fake tooth.
We enjoyed THE CHEF last night. Tonight we will watch THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE.

Jane, I really liked THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE, both seasons. Of course, I'm a former nerd. (Some might even say I still am one.) I love these sorts of stories.
They're out but they haven't come here yet. I don't really understand parents who pass this house by on their way to other houses nearby - it's mind boggling, actually. It's right in front of them, well lit, the gate is open for easy access, and yet these idiots pass right by.

I'm sorry, and surprised, there isn't a third season.
And now, I'm off. I'm leaving work to go to my sister's (the whole family will be there), and then I'm off to a party at a friend's house. My costume is my regular usher outfit. I also have the fake body that was used for "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) [revised]" and I'm going to carry it around (until I get too tired of it...it's kind of heavy) as an example of what can happen to an unruly patron. ;)
Until later!

Have you seen some of it, then?

One year, while living in Alexandria, VA, I hadn't had time to purchase a pumpkin and carve a jack-o-lantern. I heard one mother say to her children that if there was no jack-o-lantern outside they shouldn't come to the door! WHAT?!! I'd say if no lights were on they shouldn't come to the door.
DR Jeanne I'm not sure why that makes you a nerd, guess we are as well then. I do love WWII stories even if this takes place after the war.
The last book, "His Majesty's Hope", in a series I'm reading mentioned Bletchley Circle.

Odd but that is a possibility. Bruce is there anything different about your house than the others in the neighborhood? I know when I took the children the only houses we skipped were the ones without lights on. We also did the houses will steep driveways that others skipped.
Finally some visitors - about twenty all at once.

It must be Bruce's hilly driveway. :) (Bruce's house is on flat ground and it's a short walk from the sidewalk to the front door.)
I'm certainly not into computer science.

We have a terra cotta jack o'lantern that we put in the window last night.
Cute costumes tonight. They're coming in droves now. They do love my choice of candies - most popular this evening has been the little packets of candy corn.
We enjoyed THE CHEF last night. Tonight we will watch THE BLETCHLEY CIRCLE.
The candy corn is the clear winner - kids see it in the bowl and WANT it. I will run out soon (only two bags of it) but I never would have thought it would be popular and, in fact, bought it for me :)I don't think i have ever tried candy corn. I am surprised that kids would choose it. Lights on is not enough here. You have to have halloween decorations too.
I wish DR vixmom would watch "Rosemary's Baby". Not only will she see a great film, but a film with great performances and it would be her first Polanski film.
Happy Halloween!

Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me)
A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me,
sock it to me, sock it to me).
Happy Halloween, Tom (I'm guessing I've scared the daylights out of you).
Congrats, Ron, on winning the departmental charity drive. I also think you're right that the people who contribute the most are often the ones who know first-hand what tough times are like. IMHO.
I just finished my annual self-evaluation. :P
I'm just very glad that I'm not in management. Some of them supervise dozens of staff, which means that they have to do dozens of evaluations! AND they're all in different buildings! I can't imagine that :o
