Title: THE LONGEST DAY
Post by: bk on November 06, 2014, 12:22:11 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes weren't The Longest Notes, and how it is time for you to post until the longest cows come home.

I've only owned three cars...a 1976 (or maybe 1975) Volkswagen Super Beetle, a 1989 Subaru Justy, and my current 1998 Ford Escort.  My favorite was the Super Beetle because it was a VW Super Beetle! :D

Good morning, all! Every clock in my apartment is changed, EXCEPT for the microwave.  So, when I checked the clock on my way to the bathroom, I thought it was 5:45 and thought, I must be up in 45 minutes. It was really 4:45, and my morning has been screwed up ever since!

So, I have therapy in another 45 minutes, and then I sall head to City Center and drop off these four Paint Your Wagonscores to Joshie and pick up some more.  That score for "I Still See Elisa" and its sundry key shifts has caused some real problems in the orchestra parts that need to be cleared up. Then, the next number "How Can I Wait?" is almost perfect alignment. Go figure.

I love Liz Larsen. I haven't seen her since BK recorded "Little By Little."

TOD:

I've never really been a car person.  For me, cars are just there to get you from one place to another, and, frankly, I drive as little as possible.

So, I guess my favorite car is the one I have now, a 2000 Honda Accord.  I bought it new and it has about 45,000 miles on it.

TOD:
OMG, Bruce I can't believe you asked this question today! My car got totaled on October 23rd. I guess it would have been even weirder if you asked this question on October 24th. Anyway, I always wanted a bright red 4-door hatchback. My first car in the 80's was a 4-door hatchback, but it was beige. In the 90's I ended up with a red 2-door Mazda 323 hatchback and in the 00's I ended up with a red 2-door Acura Integra hatchback. Finally in 2009 I bought a brand new red 4-door Nissan Versa. I finally got the car of my dreams (my dreams are small). And on October 23rd, I was rear-ended on highway 101. No, I wasn't hurt. But, of course, even though it wasn't my fault, the whole insurance thing is dragging on slowly, and no one returns my phone calls. I finally figured out the best way to communicate with my agent is through e-mailing their web site - then he responds right away. Today, I find out if he got the Title that I sent via FedEx yesterday, so they can deposit money into my bank account, so I can buy another car. I'm currently driving a rented VW Jetta, which is okay - I thought I'd like it more.

All that said, I too, am not a car person. It's just a tool to get from point A to point B. I'm glad I don't drive very fancy expensive cars that I could get really attached to. Then, if I get rear-ended, I'm not heartbroken - just annoyed. My boss said when she got rear-ended in her new BMW, she cried - actually cried. I will never buy a car I would cry over. I have my eyes on a used 2011 Nissan Versa with only 50,000 miles on it, which I'll try to get as soon as the funds are deposited in my account. The car is blue...sigh.

TOD: I'm not a car person either. And my family hasn't really been car centered.

Back when I was in college, I got Dad's hand-me-down, a powder blue 1976 Dodge Royal Monaco. It had originally been a company car with 100,000 miles on it before the company refurbished it and sold it. I got it when I was a junior and put another 150,000 miles on it before it went to car heaven. All the dark blue upholstery was still intact and, man, was that car ever comfortable.

It was also enormous but got good gas mileage, especially on the highway. I remember taking that car on some wild weekend trips and there was always room for extra folks who wanted to tag along. One was a magical trip to Chicago with my friend Bill at Christmas time. I remember it started snowing as we left town.

Another was a trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., with three other friends (I later found out that Bill was sleeping with both women who accompanied us, though they didn't know about the other). We really didn't have any money with us and this was before ATMs. We were headed down one mountain when the brakes gave out. Luckily, I managed to steer us into a repair shop that had an incline and we were all safe. But the cost to replace the brake pads drained us of every last cent that the four of us had. We didn't eat on the way back to school, and we were all praying or hoping that we had enough gas to get us back.

I love Liz Larsen. I haven't seen her since BK recorded "Little By Little."
Love her, too. I remember seeing her in a number of shows, most often at the Cohoes Music Hall, back in the day when I lived in upstate New York. One her best was as the female lead in "Romance/Romance." She does a knock-out version of Ragtime Romeo on the first Unsung CD.

I think my favorite car is also the car I have now.  We have a family who always trades cars around, so I had never had a car that I chose....well one, my first car a 1968 Rambler American, which was okay.

I have had a 1958 Thunderbird, 1962 Dodge, the Rambler, 1974 Ford Crown Victoria, 1977 Pontiac Firebird, 1998 Izusu Amigo, 1994, Pontiac Grand Am, and now my favorite:

2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser.  It now has 109,000+ miles on it.....but it is great.  Four doors, hatchback, the color is not my favorite, but it's okay.....cream colored....but it drives great, gets fair gas mileage....and is easy to maintain.

I will probably only buy one more car in my life....and I know what it will be....but it will be a few years.

I want to get a Chrysler 200, those are nice looking medium cars.....

There are a few I left out of the list.....but that's okay.

Cohoes, a dying factory town, is one of the most haunted towns i have ever been in! The Music Hall is haunted, my apartment for six weeks was haunted, and walking down those empty streets around midnight was terrifying.

When we lived in Connecticut Keith needed a new car.  He told me to pick what I wanted and it would be my car.  I decided on a Toyota Camry which was gaining popularity here.  On the way to look at the car we passed the Lexus dealer.  Someone at Keith's office said we should look at these.  They were nice but basically a more luxurious Camry.

As we were leaving the Lexus dealership an employee said we should see the really cool car in back they just got in.  It was VERY nice, one of the few cars I've ever got excited about.  As a promotion to introduce the car in the States the price was amazingly low.  Keith wanted the car and I said go for it, knowing I was going to take it from him.  When he traveled I drove the car.  When we moved back to Michigan the company gave him a car and the Coup was all mine.  I had that car for about 15 years.  I hated to part with it, especially as it was also Echo's car.  The only way I could part with it was to give it to Bryan.  He still has it.  It has needed many repairs and once he is making a little money he will have to replace it with something more reliable. :(

Here's a good bit of news for the top of the new page: I got a job today!

I moved to the Midwest this year because my husband got a job here, and while I love it here, I had to leave a job back East that I really enjoyed. I have been looking for work in arts administration, but the pickings have been slim.

I got a job offer today for a Monday start. I will be working at a firm that assists the underprivileged and immigrant communities in applying for insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act. Open enrollment starts November 15 and runs through February 15. I don't know if there will be funding for my job after that date, but I will be performing a meaningful service for people who desperately need it, and for that I am very thankful. It is 32 hours per week, so 4 days out of 5. I couldn't be happier!

Much...and it's much, Much, MUCH (that's three muches) longer than the movie.  The book was somewhat convoluted and at times hard to follow, but I enjoyed it.  Also (and I've posted this before), the woman that Peter Lake falls in love with has a British accent, but she's from America.  They did have a throw-away line that she lived in England when she was young, but to me that's not enough for someone to keep a British accent, especially when EVERYONE ELSE that she's living with and interacting with is American.  Even though the actress is British, why couldn't/didn't they have the actress use an American accent??  They do it all the time.  That just didn't make sense.

Good advice from the doctor DR GINNY.

Did you tell the doctor that he would have to deal with MR BK if you had to cancel your reservations to the NYC Kritzerland Show?

The Cheesecake Factory is the most caloric restaurant in LA.  Even the simplest things are over 1000 calories - it must be the portions they serve.  The dishes I enjoy are amongst the most outrageous in terms of calories - the farfalle with roasted garlic and chicken is almost 2300 calories - the lunch size is better at 1800 or something stupid.  My chicken with cashews on white rice is around 1800, too.  I just actually don't understand it.  If you have the simplest salmon then you get away with 700 calories, but that same simple salmon elsewhere would be 300 calories.  Of course, the calorie count is unofficial - the restaurant itself has never provided such information.

Jane, you just reached a major milestone/millstone/Goldstone!!

And then passed it!  It's not the 4-zeros, but it's at least palindromic. :D

LOL As usual I hadn't a clue.

Congratulations!

Anywhere you order salmon you can request it be grilled plain or with a little of whatever you want on it, reducing the calories.

I don't eat at the Cheesecake Factory often enough to be too bothered worrying about calories.   I like their Chinese Chicken Salad (I know, chicken but they don't offer a tofu substitute I would prefer).

Since they added the delicious veggie burger that is what I now order.  Now I want to go to the Cheesecake Factory.

I washed my hair this morning and made it look pretty.  I put on make-up and then went and renewed my drivers license.  All that for nothing, my photo looks horrible.  The last time I renewed my license they printed out my new one right then.  This time they wrapped my old license in a temporary black & white paper one.

I am very sleepy.

Your eyelids are getting very heavy.

At the count of three, you will be fast asleep, but you will still respond to my voice.

One...

Two...

Three...

Open your eyes.

Stand up.

Dance a hootchie-cooch dance.

Stop dancing.

Stick your tongue out and catch dust motes.

Go to your kitchen and drink a glass of water.

Then, sit down and wake up.

I am in the Oakland Hills...house-sitting.  It is very quiet.  The chickens, like Elmo, are very sleepy and quiet.  The kitties are nowhere to be found.  I occasionally "hear" something, but they are keeping me in suspense as to whether there will be a siting tonight.

Back from hearing the Vienna Boy's Choir. They look cute in their "sailor" outfits, and sang pretty well. But a little of it goes a long way.

So we left and intermission and listened to the second half on the radio on the way home.
