Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of the first show at The Triad, and now it is time for you to post until the first show cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: MELIORISM!
-
Forget to mention that Lanny Meyers was with us, as was Abner orchestrator David Siegel, as was Carolyn Mignini, as was my dear sweet Jennifer Piech and her beautiful daughter.
-
Congrats, BK, on conquering the NYC Cabaret scene!
-
And Break Legs with tonight's shows!! :D

Today, I get to sleep in! And now, to sleep. 8)

Reading the notes, and viewing DR ChasSmith's photos from last night, makes me feel all the sadder (but wiser girl) that I could not be there with all the other DRs who made the trek. So glad to hear that all is well with Kritzerland in New York!

Last week when the Vixter and I decided to go see Dr Chas' Ragtime it meat we needed to leave right after the first service I could n't fidn anyone to cover coffeehour so I sopoek with Pator and asked if I shoudl set up and hope someone cleaned up and he said no - dontl set up dontl put up the tables --- leave it dark...
at the very end of the service he mentioned that since there were no volunteers to for coffeehour there wouldn't be one and that the signup sheet was in the narthex
When I checked midweek I saw that the ploy worked... every Suday form here to Chirstmas is filled which means I just have to make sure all the supplies are there but dontl have to actually be there setting up servinga nd cleaning up

Good morning, all.
Happy birthday, Skip.
-
Continued show vibes for BK and company! Saturdays shows sound wonderful

One does not deprive Lutherans of coffee.
Without dire results!
-
Well when I woke up there is a light dusting of snow outside. There is supposed to be maybe another 1 cm today. But tomorrow there might be 5 cms. I am hoping they are wrong about that. I don't even have snow tires yet!
-
I hope that the pool guy showed up.I would have been mad if I had gotten up and gone there at 7am.
-
Yes! I meant to say: HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAY WISHES to DR FJL's SKIP!! And tonight is the night that Kritzerland in New York showcases one of his songs!
-
Glad everybody had a good time last night.
-
I've changed my mind about taking the train into town today. I want me my own hours and my flexibility, so I'll just drive and park again and the world will be happier for it.
-
DR vixmom, maybe when you go to check out and pay your bill, the cashier will have failed to show up!
-
Sunday morning greetings! Slept great aand woke up with "Two Roads" in my head. We're going next door to the Episcopal church for the 11am service, so it's a leisurely morning. Not sure how the afternoon will unfold, but we're looking forward to being back upstairs at The Triad this evening.
-
TWO ROADS!
I haven't taken a lot of pictures lately, and it took me a while last night to relearn what I knew about getting decent exposures in this kind of lighting, but I'm back on my own road to getting comfortable with it again and I'll try to get a few more tonight.
-
Good morning!
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes to Skip. I'll make sure he gets them!
-
Good morning, all! I did sleep longer than I intended, but i am up and moving and ready for my second cuppa coffee. I have a day with Lerner and Loewe - one more score on Paint Your Wagon before i can turn them in to Joshie for more - and hopefully i can begin the Moross work.
Around 6:00 I will head for the bus to the Triad. I'm looking forward to tonight's show. I, too, cannot get "Two Roads" out of my head. It's a great song, and the performance by the actual writers is definitive.
DR vixmom, that hotel owes you a discount for renegging on their advertisement. I do hope that the poolman shows up.
-
DR VIXMOM was there anyone behind you in the free drink line?
-
Happy Birthday to Skip!
-
Loved reading about the shows and seeing the photos!
Have a grand time tonight, everyone......
Show and performance vibes for MR BK & Co.
-
Happy Birthday, Skip!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SKIP!!!!!
-
I'm up, I'm up. I was soooo tired last night, but couldn't fall asleep for ages - so I think I got about six hours of sleep. I'll go down now and take a walk and then relax.
-
Heading out for the day in a few minutes. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 7:00 show.

Sunday sweet Sunday.

I thought you all might enjoy seeing this e-mail I received this morning, and my response to it.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I recently purchased this soundtrack from MovieMusic.com. However I was thoroughly disappointed by the contents of this CD. Why wasn't the jazz music provided by Gerry Mulligan and Sam Butera included in this CD. That music was an integral part of the soundtrack, in fact, it is the most important part. The whole point of the movie is that Tony Curtis is playing the part of a saxophone player, yet none of his music is included in the soundtrack???
Who are the idiots who decided to create this CD yet not bother to include the main feature of the soundtrack? Was it Bernstein? Kritzerland? Both? Or someone else?
In any event, this CD is nothing but an empty piece of crap.
Sincerely disappointed,
Name of Sender deleted
And the response:
Dear Sir or Madam
We are pleased to inform you that you win the prize for the single most obnoxious e-mail we have ever received. Congratulations are in order.
We are a record label in the business of licensing soundtracks from various studios. In the case of The Rat Race we licensed from Paramount the soundtrack to a film called The Rat Race, which was composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein. Now, when we license a soundtrack we can only issue what the studio actually can license - in the case of this particular film it was the score by Bernstein, including some of his original source cues. They did not have nor could they have licensed the Butera and Mulligan source material. There was an album released at the time of the film with Sam Butera and the Witnesses. I can't remember how much of what's on that were the source cues from the film, but it really doesn't matter because the bottom line is that the idiots who actually own the Bernstein score licensed it to the idiots at Kritzerland and the idiots at Kritzerland put it out and sold it to an awful lot of grateful soundtrack idiots all over the world. It's a superb soundtrack and has some of the best musicians in history playing on it, both Hollywood players AND jazz players.
While under the best of circumstances idiotic Paramount would have owned it all, they did not, nor did they even have tapes on any of it. The lack of tapes makes things REALLY difficult to issue as you might imagine, you not being an idiot and all.
We are, of course, sorry that the great score by Mr. Bernstein is not to your liking and that you consider the CD an empty piece of crap. We have two suggestions as to what you might do with it, but we'll just give you one of them: Donate it to a library or a friend who may appreciate its contents.
Sincerely,
The Idiots at Kritzerland
-
I wandered around the etc memorial waters and then went in search of the Lutheran church which I never did find. So I ended up worshipping at Trinity Episcopal...close enough
-
Good Day all:

BK, What is your favorite Restaurant in NYC and meal?
-
BK, Sounds like your shows were a Big Success. Congratulations!!!
-
A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Skip!!! Have a great day!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
John and Singsalot, you are correct Lutherans are a coffee centric bunch!
-
Goodbye for now!!! ;) ;) ;)
-
I myself am currently in the lobby enjoying a coffee and kaluha courtesy of my unused cocktail coupon from last night
-
The substitute pool guy did show up and I had a lively swim in the heated pool
-
We are surrounded by idiots! :)
-
Then a shower and it was off to the 3rd floor for my free breakfast. It was quite a nice Buffett
I had steel cut oats (how else would they cut them I wonder). To which I added the offered broken sugar dried golden raisins, dried cranberries, hot cinnomam apple slices and slivered almonds... I also had some scrambled eggs. They arrived just as I did and they were steaming hot and wonderful and then some sausage, bacon and some really delicious ham slices. There was orange juice and coffee and I finished with a selection of fruit from the fruit bar... Strawberries, blueberries, pineapple chunks and watermelon.
The fruit was spectacular
-
I would have had seconds of all of that, DR vixmom.
-
The substitute pool guy did show up and I had a lively swim in the heated pool
Actually it was a lovely swim. It was not all that lively me being an old person who rarely has the opportunity to swim. However I did submerge my body in the water for an extended period of time and failed to drown... So it was successful swim in my book
-
We are surrounded by idiots! :)
Hey! I resemble that remark!

I took enough for two so I didn't go back for seconds but I had them all the same!

I have just eaten a wasabi pea....I May be forced to have another drink. Whoa that little pea packed a punch!

We attended a lovely service at the Christ and St Stephen's Episcopal Church, which is just two doors west of our building. They were very welcoming, but we chose to come home rather than stay for coffee and chit chat. We'll be up for some lunch in an hour or so.
-
BK that was truly an interesting couple of emails. Of course now everybody in the lobby is wondering why the old lady drinking alone is laughing like a. Loon. But I says let 'email wonder!

I am most merrie and zostered to hear that there were indeed pineapple chunks to go with the ham slices at your breakfast repast this morning.

This afternoon is for laundry and napping, methinks.

We need an Alan Turing to break the vixcode!

One more Paint Your Wagon score in this round. I hope to take them to City Center tomorrow and give them to Joshie when I leave Toyland.
-
I'm going to head into the city sometime soon.
If anyone's meeting up prior to the show, shoot me a text or email and maybe I can join. Otherwise, see yez all at the show!

We went around the corner to Vive la Crepe for lunch. We each had a savory crepe and we shared an apple cinnamon crepe for dessert. Then we went for a medium-long walk around the UWS to counteract our indulgence.

We probably won't want to eat again before the show, but most certainly will after.

Laura Daniel deserves a special award for bitchiest bitch this side of the Bitchissippi.
Here we are at the recording session last February. We met when she played the title role in the 2006 Musical theatre Festival production of The Tragic and Horrible Life of the singing Nun.

Strap on the snowshoes, DR Jrand64!!
I am hoping we have enough snow this year that I can take up snow shoeing. I've wanted to do it for the past two yeas but we haven't had enough snow. There are trails at a nearby nature preserve and you can rent or buy the shoes. I think it sounds like fun. I also have cross country skis I haven't been able to use in years

Hello, everyone.
I'm glad the NY KL shows last night were such a success. Hope tonight's are just as wonderful.

I ordered black for my new puff jacket.

All the snow from this morning melted. Yahoo.
I wish i had cross country skis. I'm pretty sure one could do this around the lake (where the bike path is).

I find myself surrounded by rudeness this weekend. The twenty-somethings next door have started having their little parties again. We've spoken to them repeatedly about their noise, but they insist that they should be able to do whatever they want. I have trouble understanding how people can be so inconsiderate. In the past, the manager and owner chose not to address it--it was up to us, the tenants, to talk to them and "persuade" them to behave. Anyone have a copy of THE MAFIA DON'S GUIDE TO PERSUASION? ;)
-
Cilla, I like your new coat. It looks very warm and practical! Did you buy the black, as was pictured?
Yes, I did. I've had coats that length before, but this one is roomy enough that it's very comfortable when I sit down to drive etc. I'm all about practical

Translation: I think I need to start looking for better housing--again.

I like that length, too. My best winter coat is very long, which is good for 10 degrees, but not the best for driving. I went up a size, too, to allow room for layers.

Love it!! :))

Today a macab surprised me by nipping my arm without leaving a mark. While she doesn't like strangers touching her, not that I did, Carlottaoes like having her photo taken. DR George, or anyone, will you please share the fb photo Keith put up of us with Carlotta.
Jane, I just realized that we're not FB friends, so I can't see what Keith posted. :-\
I just sent a friend request, so after you accept, I should be able to, unless Keith posted it on his page and I need to be friends with him.

Nice picture!

Cilla, I like your new coat. It looks very warm and practical! Did you buy the black, as was pictured?
Yes, I did. I've had coats that length before, but this one is roomy enough that it's very comfortable when I sit down to drive etc. I'm all about practical
I hope you won't fall asleep driving.

We are home from another wonderful Kritzerland show. This one included some of BK's brilliant What Ifs, which I think are way better than Forbidden Broadway. Everyone seemed so relaxed and there seemed to be a decent crowd gathering for the second show.

Is this where M.Barnum sleeps?
-
We woke up at 5:45 Sat morning and have not gone to sleep yet, except for my short nap this morning on the drive to the hotel.
Were you driving?
Yup. Our flight was out of LA
YOU were sleeping and driving??? OH MY!!
I am tired. I was not driving, someone else drove us here from the airport. We drove yesterday morning from a hotel to the airport.
I was teasing
So was I.

How was Skip's song, Ginny?

I am home. I stopped to talk to Sarah Uriarte Berry, Chris Denny, and Maddie Claire Parks, and when I left the building, Richard, and DRs Ginny and vixmom had vanished. So I headed to the bus stop and i am now home.
The show was quite wonderful. I really loved Liz Larsen's "Ragtime Romeo" and Jenna Lea Rosen's "Disneyland," but Dan Callaway's "Finishing the Hat" broke my heart, and little Hadley Miller's duet with BK was a delight. Jenna Lea and Sami's duet from "Pals" was a lot of fun, as was the L'IL ABNER duet with costumes, but I found the show jampacked with wonderful moments. I liked Skip's songs from TIME AFTER TIME, but i will never warm up to the score for THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA. I admire it, it was a stunning production at Lincoln Center and it leaves me cold. Still, Sarah Uriarte Berry gave a delightful performance of her number, and then she sang a song co-authored by BK's friend Adryan and knocked it out of the park!
So, BK, come back with more!
-
How was Skip's song, Ginny?
Songs. Dan Callaway sang a medley of two songs. They were quite lovely.

And Penny is coming to Off-Broadway when? Is it March?

It was just what we wanted for a post-show supper. We got an egg salad sandwich and a hard salami sandwich and each had half of each.

J.B. likes the birdy.

BK, I loved your response to the irate customer.
-
Went to an early Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Marci used to use a dinner/theater in San Antonio, so a few of the folks are theater people. It was fun getting together with them.
-
Sounds like a great show.

bk must be quite relieved right about now.

Sounds like a great show.
Well, DR singsong, we don't fall apart just because you pack up and leave us.
-
Meow.

So nobody here can confirm when Penny is appearing in "O'neill's Ghosts?" I figured there would be A big HHW gathering for it.
-
I'm not sure what I did to deserve that, DR elmore3003.
-
Guess I'm heading to bed.

TARGET is offering special edition CDs with exclusive bonus tracks for the forthcoming new Annie movie and the Kristin Chenoweth concert on PBS, Coming Home.
Thanks for posting about this, Singdaw. I don't like the idea of exclusive bonus tracks available from one store, but since I want to get these (and Bette Midler's new CD), I'll get them from Target. :)
-
I'm not sure what I did to deserve that, DR elmore3003.
I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. I thought i was being funny. Clearly, i failed.

Being Los means you get to be a member of AARP which means late checkout for the likes of me!
What is Los? In English.
dang that was supposed to say "old"

oh and I'm home

Sorry I missed you Elmore I looked around for you when I was leaving and didn't see you and thought you had gone before me

Watching a weird old TV special featuring Judy Garland, Phil Silvers and Robert Goulet. Goulet and Garland duet on "Here I'll Stay" and at times it's really good but then they get so self-indulgent that it's hard to listen to.
Loving a lot of the rest of it, including a bang-up version of "I Happen to Like New York."
-
I am sorry I could not stick around to see the 9 PM show I really loved Skip's two songs Has the show been recorded FJL?
-
The What If numbers were hysterically funny
-
Got to see the local arts high school do "Anything Goes" today with more than 50 on stage and 40 in the orchestra. The Porter music sounded glorious. And the second act was a chance for each member of the cast to show off. The guy who played the British twit who falls for Reno Sweeney stopped the show with his "Gypsy in Me." And the young woman who played Hope did something almost unimaginable: She made "Goodbye, Little Dream, Goodbye," a song I've never warmed to, into a real heartbreaker.

Sami knocked Annie out of the park

I am going to try and get the photos uploaded

Excellent pictures, DR vixmom!
I took a lot tonight during the first show and tried to get something decent of every performer. Tomorrow, during what is supposed to be a leisurely ketchup day, I'll edit, shrink, and post them.
-
It was fun taking a bunch whilst enjoying the show, and I had a good seat for doing it without distracting anyone (I hope!).
But let me tell you, the second show tonight was something else, with energy and intensity levels that you could eat up. Which I did. As did, I think, most everyone there. It was nothing short of stupendous.
-
Those were some fabulous pictures, Vixmom! Thanks for sharing! :D
-
Hey, George, how are the DVDs coming along?
-
Great photos by everyone.

Anyway, all I could find about Penny's Off-Broadway show is that it is 3 weeks in March. She is playing O'Neill's mother in the play "O'Neill's Ghosts"
-
I was certainly wrong about this weekend. I thought are posting totals would be way down. Instead they are way up!
-
When I first read Penny's post on Facebook, I thought she was slipping. She she was going to be in O'Neill's Ghosts. I thought, " Oh dear. Should I be the one to tell that O'Neill did not write Ghosts? Ghosts was written by Ibsen."
But the joke is on me. The play is called O'Neill's Ghosts.
-
Notes are written and scheduled and I must be up in ninety minutes so night night.
-
Good night!
