Well, you've read the notes, the notes informed you it was December and to let the holiday cheer begin, and now it is time for you to post until the cheery cows come home.

The knee is still not okay, but I maxed out my medical leave and would be losing my health coverage. So I am back.

Well, yesterday's rehearsal was pretty good...the show is getting better, so that's good.  We had the first part of rehearsal at 11:00 am, and went until 4:00 pm.  We were scheduled to stop at 3:00, but with the extra time, we got through all the cues in the whole show.  We broke and then reconvened at 7:00 pm.  The rehearsal proper ended at about 12:15, but I didn't leave until about 1:00 am, because I wanted to go through all the sound, picture and video cues to make sure that they all worked (I was adjusting more things during the entire rehearsal, again) and that what was written in my script was what was supposed to be happening, and vice versa.  Anyway, it seems to be all correct.  Whew!  I came home and watched a little TV and now I'm ready to go to bed. :)

Good morning, all! I did accomplish a lot yesterday, and I am now only one day behind in finishing act one of Paint Your Wagon. I aim to finish it tomorrow morning before I meet Joshie at the Lincoln Center NYPL to lok at Ted Royal's original full scores. I am working from copies used, I believe, to prepare the published vocal score.  This morning I have physical therapy, and then I will continue the perusal.

Last night was a night of celebrity dreams.  It's all vague now, but  I believe that I dreamed I was orchestrating a BK album of material for the men he uses in his Kritzerland shows, but all I remember now is that Jason Graae was one of the singers and I was trying to assemble an invoice and copy the band parts.

After that, I was awake for what seemed an eternity, and I dreamed I was in this huge skyscraper or a coffee shop, book store, boutique - it's too vague now -and I ran into Maxwell Caulfield, whom I knew back in my Drama Book Shop days, and we were having a nice chat. And that's all I remember.

I try to low-key the seasonal things these days, too, and as far as Christmas goes, I have bowed almost completely out of the whoop-de-doo and the gift exchanging thing.  So let's see...

I have one LI'L musical gig, the high school that hires me and a couple of others to beef up their pit for their holiday concerts.  That's one long rehearsal and three performances.  My birthday has always seemed part of the holiday season, so there's that.  There will of course be a couple of parties, but I don't yet know who's throwing them or when.  I guess that's about it.

TOD: Mostly I try to ignore Christmas until about a week before. I think the whole things goes on way too long.

I, too, try to ignore Christmas until Thanksgiving is over.  I'm ready to get ready now, but our plans are very indefinite.  Rob and Mary Linda will probably go to Michigan, which will leave Richard and me on our own.  The church in Lima has decided to do what we'd do on Christmas Eve on the Sunday before because so many of our very few people will be out of town by Dec. 24 (no altar guild, no music).

It's OK that we don't have elaborate Christmas plans for this year because our new kitchen countertops are scheduled to be installed on Dec. 22.  We will be in a bit of a mess that will probably take a few days to clean up.

DR CILLA LIZ - several people are tweeting live from the courtroom.....nothing today, but court Tuesday and Wednesday.

Juan Martinez should be up on Tuesday with his re-direct of the first defense mitigation witness who didn't fare very well under direct cross.

The defense seems to be re-trying the guilt phase rather than presenting mitigating evidence that will keep the death penalty off the table.  There have been a lot of specious allegations that take up a lot of time.....at $300 per hour for the defense attorneys....and there is no end in sight.  This is the first defense witness, and who knows how many will be called.

I am back from the bank, where I deposited a couple of small (impressively small, if you want to know) checks, and the contents of the self-counting coin jar on my dresser.  It usually gets to $62 to $63 before it's difficult to add any more, and today was no different.  However, just as the coin counter was about to swallow the last pile of my treasure, I thought to pull out three pennies -- which I am going to place on the windowsill.  If DR Elmore can do it and WIN, then so can I, damn it.  Right?  Right?  Am I right?

Oh, and something extra came back to me via the rejected coins bin today:  a square-ish 1945 five-cent piece from Ceylon.  Isn't that interesting?  I have no idea whether it had been with my coins or if the last person might have missed picking it up.  But it's so unusual, and of such fine vintage, that I feel I should do something with it.

Most my life I have been prone to severe leg and foot cramps.  Fortunately they aren't as bad as they used to be.  I discovered it wasn't easy to maneuver through a mosquito bed, without falling, when getting out of bed in the middle of the night to walk out a cramp.

I have a glass gallon jug where I put all my spare change (it's about 3/4 full!) and I always look at the coins before I put them in.  I haven't found any foreign coins (except for Canadian) in quite a while, but I've certainly found some old ones.  I've gotten a 1940 nickel, several 1940s pennies, things like that.  I put those in Disney's Big Al bank that I have. :)

Here's a curious thing - I know SAG members have received a ton of screeners recently - I, on the other hand, have received zero from them.  So, I called today and was told that the members who've received them are on the nominating committee and us who aren't won't receive them until after the SAG nominations.  I asked how the nominating committee was chosen and was told it was random.  Now, every single person who, on Facebook, has been posting that they've got them, hence those folks are obviously on the nominating committee, are not what I would, in any sense of the word, call working SAG actors.  One of them, who I know, has NEVER done TV or film - a couple of commercials would be it.  And these are the people they choose for the nominating committee?  No wonder the unions are a joke.  And the DGA screeners still number only three at this point, one of which never arrived to me.

Listening to a new CD by singer B.J. Ward, who I like very much, both as person and singer.  She's interested in us issuing it.  It's movie songs, some from musicals some theme songs.  It's just her and piano.  I'll finish listening then have a conversation.  I like the piano sound fine, but her engineer has done her no favors on her vocal, which is too dry for my taste and does not sound spatially like the piano at all, which is always peculiar to me.  So the question will be how was it recorded and is she thrilled with the sound - if the answer is yes, then I don't think I'll want to issue it.  It would be a tough sell anyway.

Good morning, all, and mary, marry, merry Monday.

Vibes for DRs TCB and Mike.

Thanks John.  We used to have a running battle over those words after I said that where I live, all three words are pronounced exactly the same.

Same thing I do DR GINNY.......when I was working I used to be amazed at the number of OLDER people.....now MY age....who were doing their shopping, Post Office and banking chores, in the late afternoon after I got off work....

Now 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. is my store/bank/Post Office time....barring emergencies of course.

Lunch hour is the worst time.  After work, if you have to wait, at least you won't get in trouble for being late getting back.  But during lunch, not good.

Listening to CDs this day.  So behind on stuff I have to listen to - stuff people need to hear about.  I'm hoping that in December I can really get all this stuff listened to so I can send responses.

I have been out of bed since about 5:30, not because I was rested; but rather because I was having severe leg cramps.  That is usually a side effect of being exhausted.  I will probably have to nap a couple of times today.

Most my life I have been prone to severe leg and foot cramps.  Fortunately they aren't as bad as they used to be.  I discovered it wasn't easy to maneuver through a mosquito bed, without falling, when getting out of bed in the middle of the night to walk out a cramp.

With your difficulties HOW do you work out a cramp?  You have my great sympathy.

That is why I was up at 5:30.  I couldn't work it out.

If I lived in Manhattan DR ELMORE - I would spend most of my time lost.

You'd call me and I'd help you out.

I finally heard from Joshie and we are on for Lincoln Center at 12:30 tomorrow.  I am on the huge Act One deMille dance for the cowboys and whores who have just arrived by coach.  If I were the copyist on this number, I would have completed the copy work and then killed the orchestrator, a Mr Goehr notTed Royal. The score is jammed with to many bars per page, laid out really poorly, and it's a nightmare getting through it.

I must say I cannot wait to hear Trude Rittman's dance arrangement but it might actually be by Frederick Loewe. She told me that on BRIGADOON and ONE TOUCH OF VENUS she laid our the dance rhythms and Loewe andKurt Weill composed the music themselves to her rhythms.  She said that by MY FAiR LADY, Loewe trusted her, but i never asked her about PAINT YOUR WAGON.  Damn!

No screeners today.  More interestingly, no mail - I really don't think our mail person shows up a couple of times a week.  There's always some junk to deliver, and I've been home all but an hour of today and have certainly seen no sign of a mail truck or person anywhere.

I am glad to hear this -  do you deliver to Long Island?  I need some stuff from the grocers

I suspect more will become disgruntled with Facebook and there malarky at some point.  There is currently one imploding actress on there, telling people if they don't like her negative screeds they should unfriend her and it's "her" wall and she can just post whatever the HELL she wants.  That's fine, but does her no favors publicly.  When she started, I told her I'd be happy to send her a copy of There's Mel, because I'd gone through exactly what she's going through right now and had finally realized that all that negativity I had just bred more and it was killing me and almost literally so.  I thought that story might help her.  I sent it to her - she has never acknowledged even getting it let alone reading it, which I doubt she has.  Like me, she is not in a place where she can be helped, either by others or, more importantly, herself.  My point is - thank the LORD I did not have anything like Facebook when I was going through that crap.

TOD (cont'd) - I'm ready to turn the whole holiday entertaining enterprise over to the younger generation.  Just tell me what to bring and what time to be there...

I felt like this at Thanksgiving.  Samantha and her family were cooking and I was the great aunt in the living room with mom and dad.  I tried several times to see if I could help, but it was clear they didn't need my help.  I never thought I'd finally see the day....it was nice :)

This is the first defense witness, and who knows how many will be called.

https://twitter.com/search?f=realtime&q=%23jodiarias&src=typd

This Facebook page might easier to follow.....the Jodi Lovers sometimes overwhelm the twitter page.

https://www.facebook.com/Justice4Travis

Thanks, I may look at it a little, but I've kind of lost interest.  She's a nut case.  She really should get life, but who knows she may talk her way into the death penalty

I have decided that this December - now that it is December - that my mission will be doing errands for my working friends.....I have let it be known that if anything needs to be picked up or purchased or driven to, I would be glad to do it.....just make sure it's on my schedule in a timely manner.....although I do expect a couple of emergency runs.....

What a nice thing to do! A great help to people who have too much on their plates.

I wish it was possible to just go back to celebrating the reason for Christmas and skip all the shopping, the parties, the giving gifts just for the sake of giving something to everyone.

I think next year I will do this... first though I need to get me a wife

Not sure what time zone this is in or whether the time may be different where you are, but this is a handy list of Christmas specials.

Samantha wants us all to go to her house on Christmas day and eat frozen pizza so no one has to cook.  I get her point, but having a great meal is one of the things I love about the holidays

WTH??  This is "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here" from the new "updated" Annie movie... :-\

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICjR8EX8ShY

well watching the new Annie is something I can take right off my  to do list  that frees up some time

The melody for the original was probably my favorite from the show, so this one doesn't measure up. But I think Quvenzhané Wallis looks great and I have a feeling she'll make a wonderful Annie. Her own, not the comic strip, which no one under 40 remembers anymore. Actually not too many under 50 remember the comic strip; the original show, yes.

Vixmom, can you use the volunteer sign-up strategy again at church? No one could do all that and keep their sanity.

I'm over 50 and I don't remember it. It could have been simply that the two newspapers in town didn't carry the comic strip.

I don't like the idea that you're taking a show based on a specific comic strip and a different time and modernizing it but still calling it the same thing.  It isn't the same thing. Why hijack someone else's creativity? Why not create a new story or modernize it but don't still call it Annie and use the same songs.   i don't even want to get started on this or I'll get really politically incorrect.  I just wish people would either stick to the original concept and script or make up their own story.

My mom was born in 1927, so she talked about Little Orphan Annie and I had a couple books about Little Orphan Annie

Like when spell-check miscorrects. (It's telling me right now that "miscorrects" isn't a word. But we all know it is.)

I have downsized my holiday activities considerably. It started when I realized I just couldn't do it all anymore. Too much work to put up the tree and decorations and too much work to take it all down again. Since I'm no longer in a corporate environment I avoid the company Christmas parties and the secret Santa stuff. I don't miss any of that. I do exchange presents with a few people--all adults--but we don't spend large sums on it. Most of my friends don't really need anything and probably feel as I do. Christmas is fun for the kids, but I feel it's a very different thing for adults.

I agree. I have scaled back, too. I think I just want to rest for Christmas.

They just announced that a Powerball ticket worth $90 million was sold in Washington State.  But before I could get too excited they announced that the ticket was sold in Auburn; about 20 miles from my house.

Oh well, I will keep trying.
