I'm actually watching Sunday's episode of "Resurrection."  I have enough time to watch it and delete it before I go to bed...my DVR is pretty full.

I loved that production that starred Sandy Duncan!!!! It was the first show I'd seen multiple times, and saw it again when she took it on the road.  Of course, prices were a lot more reasonable then.

I did not watch Peter Pan last night as I the dvr record it.

BUT BOY OH BOY what was going on Facebook. I never saw such language about a tv show. F bombs were flying all over the place. Things being placed up people private areas. It really was disgusting by all sides. The pros and the cons. I think the guys who ran the group should have just deleted the the thread and tell people to move.

The Peter Pan discussion was a fiasco people quitting because the majority of the poster hating the show and they liked it.

YIKES!!!!

Morning, all!

Getting an early start at work so's I can leave early.

Peter Pan has particular resonance for me. I played a pirate in a day-camp production, and saw Cathy Rigby in the late 90s on B'way. It's just a fun show, and I hope people enjoy it.

Anyhow, on to the TOD:

On ye olde iPod: "Welcome to Night Vale" podcasts, lots and lots of lectures
Youtube playlist: Tons of chess videos.

Good morning, all! I slept late because I could not get to sleep last night.  I'm usually unconscious by 10:30, and I turned off the lights around 10:00 last night. I was awake past midnight.

So, my morning schedule is a bit screwed up at the moment.

I did not watch PETER PAN; I am not a fan of Rob Ashford's work, and I could see from the Macy's parade that this would be for me a must miss.  The folk on Broadway World who seemed to like it the most were the ones swooning over the buff Indians and pirates.

I think that's all my news.

Let's face it: Rob Ashford just directed the queerest, big budget family musical ever!

I'm surprised NBC didn't use that in its advertising.

LIVE WISE I have only seen Cathy Rigby as Peter Pan.....but it was a very fun evening of theatre...and Cathy was wonderful.

I love the Sandy Duncan clip....there was everything in that clip that was missing from last night's broadcast....nobody seemed to be having any fun.

I did like Mrs. Darling, and grown up Wendy, and Smee......but everyone else was kind of off....Peter didn't seem so magical and certainly didn't play the spirit of YOUTH that he should be.  Hook was off the charts.....I'm still not sure about him....and Smee pulled him out of the weeds several times.....

It was okay.....but fairly charmless....and those Lost Boys must have fallen out of their carriages A LONG TIME AGO!

Yes, I read several posts from people who liked the show - that part was fine.  Not fine was saying (and they said it loud and clear) "And I loved the buff and sexy chorus boys."  Really?  Peter Pan?  No.

Just caught the first 30 minutes of Peter Pan on nbc.com. So far, looks competent but bland. Really very hard to capture the joy of the stage production on film, and the long camera takes are technically impressive but don't add anything, IMHO.

I just heard on the radio that PETER PAN LIVE was a major ratings disappointment.  It did about half of what THE SOUND OF MUSIC did last year.

On the other hand, maybe other people like me recorded it for later viewing.

Druxy is right - about half the audience from last year.  Of course they're saying that was expected.  Well, producers, it wasn't expected - that was never said in advance of this broadcast.  That is - spin.

I thought that was sarcasm as the lost boys were in their 20's and not boys.

No, what I read on the All That Chat board was from idiots who were drooling over the sexy buff chorus boys.  No sarcasm, and completely disgusting when discussing Peter Pan.

Since we are doing INTO THE WOODS in August, I thought I would buy a copy of the Broadway revival.....2002 or so.....and I found a copy on Amazon for $2.99

It arrived today.  It is a nice package.....I hope I like it.

DR LAURA....I'm not sure what it was....DR ELAN used the word bland, and I guess that's a good description.  And if you watched the clip that MR BK posted of Sandy Duncan.....you can see just the OPPOSITE!  It must be hard to do the show without an audience....and I didn't HATE it....it's just that on TV in your face...the shortcomings are much more obvious.

Theatre performances MIGHT have been TOO much.

I think my biggest problem with PETER PAN came from the flying.  Fly By Foy has flown almost everyone since Mary Martin right thru to Liberace.  So I blame them for not helping Allison and the boys know how to move and soar when they are flying.  When you watch Sandy Duncan or Cathy Rigby or Mary Martin they really make you believe they are flying.  Just going up and down, or even doiing somersaults isn't that exciting.
Title: Re: THE FUN-AND-A-HALF DAY

Well, this is interesting (in a good way, I think).  THIS (http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=885821#.VIIF7Xl0xtQ) audio-only video is the complete "On the Steps of the Palace" from the soundtrack to the Into the Woods movie.  I really enjoy it.  And THIS (http://www.broadwayworld.com/videoplay.php?colid=884628#.VIIGOHl0xtQ) two-minute interview video shows one minute of the song from the finished movie (jump to 58 seconds).  What I realized as I was just listening to the second clip is that they added breathing sounds to Cinderella's singing.  Watching her breathe and also hearing her breaths isn't something that I really thought about while listening to the first video.  It adds a layer realism to the video clip that I liked.

I've only seen a little bit of the flying from last night's broadcast, but I think another problem (maybe even the bigger problem) is that their set is so small compared to an actual theater and they really didn't have the room to do much flying...certainly not side to side. :-\

Originally I had a PPO Medicare Advantage and the money went there.  Now I have Medicare B along with a supplemental insurance that we pay for the supplement but Medicare oversees it.  We also pay separately for a prescription insurance.

On hold with Apple Care - the first gal I got was a complete idiot and should not be working for them.  I was on hold for twenty minutes, then I get this idiot who isn't even a tech person.  You sit there and waste your time explaining the problem, she mis-writes it down four times, then can't understand the serial number you're giving her, then finally switches you over to someone who presumably can help - and you're on hold for another twenty minutes, which is where I am now.  This completely weird crap is going on with iTunes - never happened EVER - I launch it and it shoves my desktop off the screen and takes up the full screen with no way to minimize, close or get back to the desktop without force quitting iTunes.  Obviously it's not supposed to do that, as it precludes you from seeing your desktop or dragging tracks to it.  I just don't get this crap at ALL.

Yes.

All fixed easily.  More importantly, the new iTunes, which made a lot of formerly easy stuff very difficult and made my album titles disappear and had everything by artist only (when I import stuff for Kritzerland CDs I always do it by title and not artist, so I had no way of knowing which album was which for those tracks.  The helpful man had to do some research (they are all still on a learning curve with this new version).  When he came back it was just a matter of double clicking on part of the screen, which brought down a huge pull-down menu - from there I put the cursor where I wanted the album title to show up, clicked "album" from the pull down menu and voila, all is now the way it was.

Yes.....you are no longer Stage Manager - you are technician.  Check your check.

Except that the program lists me as "Sound Board Operator."

And my check is in the mail. ;)

I just heard on the radio that PETER PAN LIVE was a major ratings disappointment.  It did about half of what THE SOUND OF MUSIC did last year.

On the other hand, maybe other people like me recorded it for later viewing.

I think maybe it was because of Carrie Underwood?  I honestly did not know who Allison Williams was (I mean I know she is on Girls but I've never seen that show).

I actually had to hang up on a customer today. She was afraid and upset and anxious about her insurance - understandable. But when she just yelled and yelled at me, I told her that if she couldn't calm down and let me help her, I was going to have to hang up, and that she could call back when she had calmed down. And when she kept yelling, not allowing me to get a word in edge-wise, I did hang up on her.

DR Singdaw, when I worked in the public library's telephone reference center I was amazed at the abusiveness of some callers.  The only time I remember hanging up was on an obscene call.  When the guy called back I connected him with my (male) supervisor.

Next Friday night, the cast of the movie, INTO THE WOODS, will be on ABC's 20/20

They are working Into the Woods much too hard.  The reason Chicago was a hit is because they did absolutely the right thing in its promotion - nothing.  They let people discover it.  NBC just made the same error with Peter Pan.

So, we just finished watching PETER PAN LIVE.

It was okay...not great.

Certainly the complexity of the production was impressive.

Allison Williams and Christopher Walken were certainly good, but I prefer Mary Martin and Cyril Richard in the roles.

I keep seeing the trailers for INTO THE WOODS, and they make me not want to see it.

If I didn't already know it was a musical, I wouldn't know that from the trailers.

Interesting that nobody is talking about the film for any awards.

I loved that production that starred Sandy Duncan!!!! It was the first show I'd seen multiple times, and saw it again when she took it on the road.  Of course, prices were a lot more reasonable then.
I saw it in 1979 with my sister and brother in law.  It was the second time I'd ever been to New York.  I loved it!

To this day I haven't seen a minute of DOWNTON ABBEY, and too many people I trust have told me I simply have to get on board with it, so I'm thinking of picking up a set of all the seasons to date.  If I recall, there were some problems or complaints about some of the early issues.  Was it a US- vs UK-release difference?  If anyone (BK?) knows what's what, I want to make sure I get the right set.
