Good morning, all! I decided I would go to bed early, get up early, get to therapy early and get back to work,  so . . . i turned off the lights at 9:30, and five minutes later that damned dog above me barked his head off for the next thirty minutes.  I was so pissed that I decided to read a bit to calm down, reached for one and knocked over a pile of books along with a glass of water. So, then i had a mess to clean up.

At 1:00am, i was still awake and still pissed and this morning I am still pissed. That dog is dead.  So, at 6:30 this morning, I canceled therapy, went back to bed, and my plans for the day are screwed up. I will spend it working on the Encores! job and call the landlord and inform him that if that dog prevents me from meeting it, I will get an attorney on it.  I hope I can afford one.

I only have to buy pistachios and a DVD set of Midsomer Murders and then shopping is done.

I got my Samsung Android Tablet and I got it at Best Buy. I went to a different location. I didn't get last week's sale price but it was still on sale from the MSRP. I got the Tablet, a folio in which to carry it, a 64 gig micro SD card and because they had them on sale for $20, a 64 gig flash drive for Anthony. I came home and told him my office gave him a Christmas present, since I bought all this with a gift card from my 25th Anniversary at the Foundation Center.

I bought all that and I still have money left over on the card. Hooray. The tablet is charging right now. I will set it up later when it's fully charged.

We put up the tree yesterday and Anthony was putting the finishing touches on it while I went out to run errands before the big storm tomorrow and Wednesday. I still have to go out to the library later. I book I reserved has come in and I want to start reading it. I got, through a library inter-loan, the novel Grand Hotel by Vicki Baum. When I'm finished with Grand Hotel I will order Here's O'Hara, a collection of John O'Hara's short stories and the novella, Pal Joey.

Ben: About 10 years ago, I stumbled into a used book store down at the coast and picked up five O'Hara novels for $1. I still haven't had time to read them, but I love his short stories, which I read years and years ago. Maybe I'll take one home with me for Christmas this year.

TOD - My 25th birthday in 1975.  Worked all day, then went to the first rehearsal for YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, with DR Elmore as director.  After the introductions and all the formalities, he said, "Now, I want Ginny Ellis to come up here and sit by me."  It thought I was in real trouble, or being relieved of my Lucy role, when Snooky and Andrea emerged with a blazing cake and the the whole company was singing "Happy Birthday."  They presented me with this Snoopy, autographed by everyone.  I'd lived in Middletown a little over 2 years and it was the first time I felt a sense of belonging with real friends.

Today I celebrated my 15th year with Fedex Office (Started off as Kinkos) I have outlived about 10 different managers and two who were from hell and resigned before they could be terminated.

I stuck with it even though there many times I wanted to quit and even started to look for other jobs.

With my current health situation the company has been understanding and accommodating. Grateful for that.

Having moved too many times I appreciate how special this would have been.

It is nice to know after all these years they are treating you as you deserve to be treated.

Back from a nice lunch at a coffee shop/diner called Cafe 101 right by Argyle and Franklin.  It's some kind of hipster coffee shop, which means a lot of idiots acting like they grew up in the 70s, which, of course, they didn't.  Weird to me, but what do I know.  I had a BLT and a tiny bit of salad so that I can eat something fun later.  Rob had a waffle brownie sundae, which was voted one of the ten best desserts in LA by the AAA.  I had a bite and it was pretty great.  They make the brownie in a waffle maker - fun.

I used to live at the Capital Gardens Apartments at Franklin & Argyle.  It was 1964-65.  Some great memories about that place.

My impression is that you can hand someone food, such as leftovers after dining out, or donate to food outlets where they can go for food, but you can't set up food lines.  What exactly are the rules?

At 1:00am, i was still awake and still pissed and this morning I am still pissed. That dog is dead.  So, at 6:30 this morning, I canceled therapy, went back to bed, and my plans for the day are screwed up. I will spend it working on the Encores! job and call the landlord and inform him that if that dog prevents me from meeting it, I will get an attorney on it.  I hope I can afford one.

I can really relate to these noise issues. Are the manager and the landlord aware of the problem? Do you expect them to do anything about it? You should not have to hire an attorney. What about a tenants' rights group? I hope this is solved simply and quickly, but am afraid it won't be.

For DR singdaw in memory of DD Zach:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

Jane, sorry I missed your birthday. I haven't caught up with the posts. I hope you enjoyed it.

Thank you.  I had a very fun time as friends were visiting.  I got to celebrate all week, dinner out on Saturday night.  Yesterday we went to the cute town of Jacksonville.  First stop was at a beautiful winery I had heard about.  Then we walked around the town.  I found a Brighten belt I was looking for.  Keith wasn't keen on the hat I was wearing so I "had" to buy two new ones.  As we were leaving the store with the hats I saw a sweet pair of heart earrings I liked.  I'm wearing them today.  They are so light & comfortable I forget I have them on.

Then we drove through Ashland to see the holiday lights again.  Our friend wanted to stop at a shoe store she likes that was closed Saturday night.  While she shopped I played with the beautiful store cat.  Then we went to a restaurant down the street to use the bathrooms and decided to have drinks at the bar because the bar tender was fun & the bar very pretty.  From there we drove to a restaurant on the outside of town for dinner before returning home.

Ben, it sounds lik your 25th gift was much better than the cheap plastic clock I got from the State of Washington.  At least I got a nice letter from the Governor when I retired.

T.O.D.

I can't think of any memorable birthdays, at least not in a positive way.

Great to see you, Matthew. What have you been up to?

Thanks, DR John G.  Been doing what it is I do, I suppose. It's been quite a journey the last few months.  Not to bore you with the details, but the avatar says it all, I think.  But it's nice to be healthy again AND nice to be back here.

Back from a fun dinner with the helper.  She took me to a jernt called Bow and Truss - a tapas place so everything was bite-sized, which was perfect.  Then we went to the Apple Store and I was finally able to get the new iPhone - they have a clever new plan called ATT Next, so a small amount of money is added onto my plan and the phone doesn't cost anything up front and you can upgrade after only six months, from what I understand, which is nice protection when new models come out.  I ended up with the 6S because that's what they had in stock and I kind of like the slightly bigger thinner size.  We set it up - very confusing and took quite a while.  Then I came home to backup my old phone so I could get all my photos over to the new phone, stuff like that.  Only it's not working.  I see the device show up in iTunes but you can't highlight it and therefore I can't do the backup.  Supposedly everything is in the Cloud but I don't know what that means or how to retrieve it.  The endless confusion always is that I had three Apple IDs and because I don't remember that the Cloud is different I never type in that password.  It drives me crazy.  Now it's finally all set up under one Apple ID with one brand new password and hopefully that will now work.

I'll call Apple in the morning and see how to fix the thing with iTunes (this last update was the worst thing Apple has EVER done - it has screwed up so many things) so I can back-up the phone and get everything I need over to the new phone.  I was able to get all the apps on the new phone via the App Store and Cloud.  That was really easy.

Finally got the old iPhone to show up and back up, which it's doing now.  Once I'm sure it's done that correctly I'll plug in the new phone and restore it from that backup and then everything should be fine and all the photos should show up and stuff.

Well, that completely screwed up everything - I now have a clone of my old phone on my new phone and all the new icons, wallpapers, and everything else are gone and it's all the old stuff.  I'm going back to the Apple Store first thing in the morning and they're going to damn well start from the top and get this done the right way.
