Well, you've read the notes, the notes will never leave you, and now it is time for you to post until the never leaving cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: THALASSIC!
-
Today at work, we're having our annual holiday party and gift exchange. I didn't get a gift to exchange, so I won't participate in that, but I will participate in the goodie-snacks at our first break, and then the potluck lunch. I'm bringing some maple cookies for the break and some cheese for the lunch.
-
Between these two eating opportunities, I will be involved with dealing with a personnel issue with one of my staff. :-\ I can't say any more than that, but I'm not taking the lead on this...my supervisor is (she has a LOT more experience than I do in these kinds of matters, which is none at all). Hopefully, this will get resolved quickly and easily.
-
Have a good day, all.
-
So very glad to hear that things are going well for your mother's transition, DR Ginny. I am sure that is a great relief.
-
I pooped out very early last night, but forgot to log out of HHW.
-
DR Jrand64 - I fortunately did NOT have to work until midnight last night, but some of my colleagues did. We found out yesterday afternoon that MN is extending the deadline until 4:30pm on Saturday, so the craziness will continue all week.
-
But don't let that stop you from asking your question!
-
I am sorry that the new incarnation of Side Show is closing, but glad that we will have the new recording.

Tuesday morning greetings! Another day of work at Mom's, so I'm up early enough to have a quiet cup of coffee before it begins.

So very glad to hear that things are going well for your mother's transition, DR Ginny. I am sure that is a great relief.
Thanks, DR Singdaw! It's not all peaches and cream, but we're trying to make it as pleasant as possible. The actual move takes place tomorrow morning.

Little known, totally unimportant, fact about BIRDMAN OF ALCATRAZ:
It previewed in Seattle, my home town.
I was unaware of the preview, but I happened to be home visiting at the time and a limping Burt Lancaster was on my flight back to Los Angeles.

Good Morning! It's Tuesday.

Good morning, all.
I thought I had something brilliant to say, other than that, but I'm afraid it has totally escaped me.
-
Good morning, all!
Today is a Jerome Moross day. It will remain Jerome Moross day until I go back to work on Paint Your Wagon. The project I'm working on is a new vocal score for his last(?) musical, Gentlemen Be Seated!, which was performed in a series of new operas by New York City Opera in 1963, with a cast including Dick Shawn, Alice Ghostley, and Carol Brice. The show, which has dialogue scenes, is a minstrel show history of the American Civil War. The score is quite beautiful, and I'm sure that the outrageously funny mini-opera about the shenanigans of Confederate spy Belle Boyd trying to seduce generals for information was very funny with Alice Ghostlry as the spy:
I spy! I Spy!
I find it's easy as pie.
Though I'm svelte and I'm slim and I never look mussed
I've a whole filing system within my false bust.
I also have laundry today, and that's about it.
-
I don't feel well. :(
I had a small fever last night and couldn't stop shaking. My throat is hurting and I did not sleep very well (waking up every hour and being up half the night).

I think I will eat an ice cream cone to celebrate Jerome Moross Day. It isn't even on my calendar!

I wish all my Jewish friends a very happy Hanukkah!

Any day could be a Jerome Moross day for me!
DR JRand64, I love Belafonte's recording of "Mary's Boy Child," but that Bryn Terfel arrangement is mighty cherce.

I enjoyed the notes.....I enjoyed the photos of DR JANE here and on BOokFACe.

TOD:
I always liked "The Temptations" movie. They show it on VH1 a lot.
I just read the posts from yesterday and reading "The Life That Late I Led" made me think of another song from "Kiss Me Kate" - how about a child singing "I Hate Men"? Start 'em young on down the man-hating road, I say!
-
Today, I started listening to the OBC of Side Show in honor (?) of the revival closing. I have to say, "I Will Never Leave You" is the most silly concept for siamese twins. "I will never leave you" -- well, DUH!
-
I was at the gym at 5:50am this morning. The only chance I get to work out with my friend Kris (husband of my best girl friend), Always a chore to get up that early to get there, but always rewarding.
-
I'm sorry that I was E & T last evening. I am still not feeling great, so I went to bed very early.
-
My mother worked for the USO, Entertainment Division, during World War II. She always told me that the story of Glen Miller dying in a plane crash over the English Channel was created to protect his publice image. She said that she was told that he died in the bombing of a brothel in Paris. In the last few years, I have seen more and more biographers going with that ending.
-
And now, for something completely different -
My friend, Phillip:
Which one?
-
I heard that story as well DR TCB. There was also a book a couple of decades ago from an RAF pilot who said that on the way back to England, they were dumping their bombs, and later they realized they had dropped the bombs on Miller's plane that was flying below them.
Other stories say he was killed by the Nazis when he was flown to Germany for a top secret meeting with the German generals who wanted to end the war.....
Mystery.....

Good day, all.
And Happy Hanukkah.

Now wait just a darned minute - elmore isn't a Jew?

I'm up after only six hours of sleep, but they were a good six hours. It's been drizzling out and hopefully that doesn't cause the gardener not to come - a little rain and he just thinks he doesn't have to show up, although I'm fairly certain he still charges Mr. Marsden for those days.

Yesterday somebody road apiece on Facebook about making a musical of to kill a Mockingbird. I tagged Bruce because he had an attempt to write a musical version of it. You wouldn't believe how many people have gone on and on and onabout writing a musical version of the show. Even though it was stated that Harper Lee would not allow a musical to be written Based on the novel.

To be exact, I didn't attempt to write a musical of To Kill a Mockingbird, I wrote a musical of To Kill a Mockingbird and it was slated to be done in Seattle with Don Murray playing Atticus. Harper Lee was very gracious about the adaptation and the songs, but simply did not want her book to ever be musicalized. It was that simple. But I do believe that her seeing the adaptation I did led to it being adapted for the stage as a straight play - I was very faithful to the book and did not musicalize anything that should not have been, including the entire courtroom scene.

Maybe someone (like BK, maybe) could write parody lyrics as "I CAN Never Leave You" and make it about how much they hate each other but they're stuck together forever.
;)

I had to run an errand and, as I neared Barnes & Noble, I wondered if i stopped in that I would see Patty, my former manager. Instead I got to the corner and she was standing there, leaving for home, so I walked her to her car. It was a short but nice visit.
I did stop in Holy Trinity Church to pray for a good 2015, and some lunatic started yelling at a woman he claimed was staring at him. I left very quickly. i'll stop back tomorrow on my way home from therapy.

Congrats to DR GEORGE on his millstone.

Thanks for the vibes. I still don't feel too great. Does anyone know what you are supposed to drink when your throat seems blocked by phlegm? Every once in a while my throat feels all blocked up and sort of have to cough but it's hard to breathe. Hot showers seem to help. I have been gargling with salt water and drinking warm things.

But I do believe that her seeing the adaptation I did led to it being adapted for the stage as a straight play - I was very faithful to the book and did not musicalize anything that should not have been, including the entire courtroom scene.
This reminds me of when I was writing my Maurice Chevalier one-person play.
I contacted Fritz Lowe's agent or attorney (I don't recall which) to get permission to use a couple of songs from GIGI in my play. He said that Lowe would not allow the songs to be performed in any production but GIGI.
Then, he added: "But call me in six months. Things might change."
About four months later, Lowe passed away and, after a bit of negotiation, I was granted the rights.
Unfortunately, unlike with my Al Jolson play, my song licenses for CHEVALIER are are still quite convoluted, so untangling them for anything but a major production is really not worth the effort. Too bad, because I'm rather proud of the book.
In any event, BK, you might keep this story in mind for future reference.

Meeting Elinor's DARLING baby sister and taking Elinor her gift, especially since she invited us for Chanukah, was one motivation for us to take a trip there. The other reasons is we are seriously thinking of moving to Washington, maybe Portland.
It is hard to imagine leaving our beautiful home but it is time for a change. I would like to return to Los Angeles, if only it wasn't so crazy and expensive. Portland also has traffic but not as much and for the most part we would avoid rush hour.
We have much to think about and much to do so please excuse me if I'm distracted at times.

I sent in an adoption application for a rescue Schnauzer - hopefully a brother for DD Ben. Waiting patiently for a response.

Jane why is distraction necessary. Move back HERE, not Portland. You're from here. You can find something nice here, believe me.
The traffic drives us up a wall. I would love to live near Santa Barbara, close enough to see people but far enough out of LA. Still a bit far from LAX but at least we could fly out of there. Flying from here limits where we can go with a non-stop flight. California taxes are outrageous.
Washington on the other hand is income tax free. If one is over the border from Oregon they can shop sales tax free, the best of both worlds and we would be able to fly out of Portland or Seattle.
-
You can find something nice here, believe me.
What is your opinion on this DR Jeanne?
-
I didn't realize the restaurant with the good bean & rice burger was part of a chain. Has anyone eaten the Rock Bottom Brewery? They started in Colorado.
-
There are no taxes in California, and no traffic. But none of that is important. I'M here. That is all that matters. You can live near me - beautiful homes around here and I don't really go many places so traffic is rarely an issue. You seem to be a stay put type of gal these days, so traffic won't be an issue. LA misses you and we don't want you in Portland or Vancouver or even Vancouver or Portland. It took a while to get Jeanne back here, but we're very glad she is.
-
I am thinking of moving to the bedroom at the opposite end of the house. I am not sure what the tax ramifications are.....I will have to study the traffic situation as well.
-
We came back to the west coast for me and seriously did consider moving back to California & closer to LA, until we went for Thanksgiving. I might be able to handle it but Keith can barely tolerate it.
We go and only have time to spend with family and wish we were closer so visits with family and friends could be more often and relaxed, not everyone at once. I say more often, as you know we basically see our families and then leave. The upside of leaving paradise, wherever we move, is our visits to LA might be longer without having to rush home to take care of things here.
-
I am thinking of moving to the bedroom at the opposite end of the house. I am not sure what the tax ramifications are.....I will have to study the traffic situation as well.
;D :)
-
I like the idea of the riverfront is Portland as I could walk all the way into the city. I find it difficult to drive in traffic because of my shoulder, in fact I do not rent a car anymore when I go to LA for a family function without Keith. I stay with my brother & take a taxi if I go to a function without him. Last time I was down I didn't need to take the taxi as my cousin's wife, the one STILL in the hospital, drove me.
-
One thing for sure, wherever we go I will have to get rid of about half of my wardrobe. I keep clothes forever and still wear them. I also have clothes that were my mother's. Downsizing is going to be very emotional for me as I am a hoarder and like the memories when I look at my belongings.

Write a book! Take pictures of the clothes that you get rid of and then write a story for each to remind you of a special event that occurred while you were wearing the clothes...then you won't have to keep the actual items.
Problem solved! :D

Thanks for the travel vibes. We had about a 2 hour gap between the rain and the snow when the wind was blowing like crazy, so it dried the roads. We didn't get much snow, just a skiff, but the roads remained dry so it was fine for driving.
-
My client was waiting outside at 7:00 AM when I stopped to pick him up. He speaks very little English so I practiced my Spanish all the way there (1 1/2 hours) and back (the same). The hearing was about 2 hours. We don't know the outcome and won't for a long time as there are a limit on the number of people who can win these cases every year, so when they hit the limit you still do the hearing, the judge can write his ruling, but it's then sealed until more spots are available. This is a last resort type of hearing that is very very very difficult to win. So, I was glad there was no decision on the way home. It may have been much more depressing. And it was fun to hear his son on the phone so excited because papa was on his way home
-
My client has only had three years of education in his life and doesn't read or write. It was really fascinating to hear how beautiful he thinks the world is, how much his family means to him and just get a feel for his point of view. It was a fun trip in the car and I'm glad I agreed to give him a ride
-
I was beginning to thing I jumped the gun when I got my new lap top and that I should have waited. But tonight I opened the old one and the plastic casing around the screen either came loose or broke. I've snapped part of it closed and am transferring everything I can from the old computer to the new one. There are lots of photos so it's slow going, but at least I've got the new laptop. If I didn't have it, I"d be shopping for one tomorrow
-
That is so interesting, DR Cillaliz. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
-
After we got back to town today, I took the afternoon off - well part of it. and went to Michael's Art Supplies. I had so much fun making cards this weekend and it reminded me how much I always loved doing craft kits of all kinds, coloring, hooking rugs, doing needlepoint. SO, I got a bunch of paint by numbers, a set of pastels, water colors, colored pencils and Markers. and some really funky hipster coloring books. They are not kiddy pictures, but some really cool things. It's not high quality art, but I love doing it. Frankly once it's done, I pretty much lose interest in it, but I have fun with them, so....now I have a stockpile that should get me through the winter. I did some coloring tonight and started a very detailed color pencil by number, but it was too small and I couldn't see it very well, so I'll do the bigger ones first and get back to that later
-
No problem Singdaw. I really learn a lot from my clients. This one was from El Salvador. I really hope his two young citizen kids don't have to go there. It's a very dangerous place right now
-
I am thinking of moving to the bedroom at the opposite end of the house. I am not sure what the tax ramifications are.....I will have to study the traffic situation as well.
Don't forget to read up on cost of living and the year-round climate, DR JRand64. It just might offer an easier lifestyle.

I am feeling very relieved that the past two days are over. I had a ton of things to do that were weighing on my mind. I still have a lot of work to do, but don't have the stress level I had before today. So, now I can catch up and breathe.

Wow, no one is posting?

Hello, everyone.
Well, hello, Cilla.

Hi Jeanne, how are you?
-
Which reminds me.....health vibes to everyone

I can really relate to this. That's how the last several months have been for me. I would have loved to take all of December off to just unwind from a very hectic year, but of course that wasn't possible. I am slowly getting caught up, though, and thus able to relax better and unwind. I still have things to do, but the important stuff is getting done and the rest is, well, less important.

Hi Jeanne, how are you?
I'm OK, thanks. How are you? Glad to see you're feeling less stressed and your trip today went well.

Ditto. Health vibes to all.

I'm doing much better. I am going to take some time off during the next two weeks. Not sure how much or when, but I'm going to do it
-
You can find something nice here, believe me.
What is your opinion on this DR Jeanne?
I agree there are some lovely properties. Affordability is another manner. I guess it depends on your price range. Santa Monica is now very high-priced and there's little under $1M. A friend in the Hollywood Hills feels there's better value as you leave the Westside, but there's little in his area under $1M also. The nicer areas are just very expensive.
Unless you're planning to pay cash or are happy to rent, I suggest you talk to some lenders in the areas you're considering. When I was house-hunting a few years ago, I spoke to five or six different lenders. All were looking for applicants with earned income from regular jobs. Retirees, small-business people, or anyone with a fluctuating income was persona non grata. I was told, "We have no programs for you." When I brought up assets, he said flatly, "We don't look at assets." Dumbfounded, I reminded him that assets can produce income, such as dividends from blue-chip stocks. "Well, we might look at that." One could be a multimillionaire, but not qualify without a regular job. It's insanity, but that's how many lenders think. The economy is stronger now and some lenders may actually be lending, but if you'll want a loan don't assume it's like the pre-meltdown days. It isn't.
I found only one lender I'd consider talking to again. If you're interested, I'll go through my notes and pass that name on to you.
On a more positive note, you might be able to find something woodsy in Topanga or Malibu, while not being too far from family and friends.

Glad to hear it. That's what I'm doing, too.

Are you putting up a tree? Do the cats bother it?
-
Must get some sleep.
Good night.
-
Sleep?

Are you putting up a tree? Do the cats bother it?
No, I don't put up a tree. Actually I don't really decorate, I just never seem to have much time in December. I grew up in a home that had the halls decked from top to bottom, but I just don't miss the decorations
-
I am very sleepy and want to go to bed, but I'm waiting for all the photos to move from the old lap top to the new lap top.
-
I'm a bit afraid if I turn off the old lap top that it won't go back on. So, I'm going to wait. I didn't realize I had SOOO many photos in that computer, but I do
-
It's been raining on and off all the livelong day and evening. Of course, the weather people forgot to predict it.

My parents and my sister decorates there houses, and my sister gets a real tree and all that, but it's not what I want to spend my time doing. I'll go to there houses if I need to see decorations. Like you, I don't miss decorating my house.
-
My family will have their various houses decorated, so I'll see decorations on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. That's fine for now. I still have lots of decorations and Christmas dishes etc. Some years I get them out and some I don't.

The sun finally came out today. It was the first time in over a week and man was it nice to see

Happy to hear today that for the fourth year in a row the Shermans will be with us for the Christmas Do.
-
Perhaps I'll write another lyric for him, since the one last year worked out so well.

That's great, BK!

My suggestion would be to write a lyric that goes along with "Two Roads" but is more of a ballad, so that Richard Sherman can write a melody that can be sung at the same time as "Two Roads," like "I Wonder Why/You're Just In Love." I love those kinds of songs.
That would be cool. ;D
