Re: THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE
Back when Maggie Smith won the Oscar for this film, there was a story circulating that the movie's producer, Robert Fryer, financed an independent advertising/publicity campaign in the trades to win an Academy nomination for Maggie.
When she got the nomination, the people at Fox were furious. The studio head (Richard Zanuck?) called Fryer into his office and berated him for costing Barbra Streisand an Oscar nomination for HELLO, DOLLY!
New Year's morning greetings! It seems no matter how late I stay up, I still wake up early unable to go back to sleep.
Multnomah Falls, Oregon:Just lovely!

So, for 2015 I wish that all my friends prosper and thrive with good health and much happiness.I hope both come true for you, DR Elmore!
What i'd like for myself are the following:
1. that Ohio property finally sells and I can stop fretting about living in poverty
2. that I land steady employment that I enjoy: for idle hands and hearts and minds the devil finds some work to do, says W.H. Auden
Great to see DR DANISE last night.....that was quite a hair-raising story....and I'm bald!!Thank you DR Jrand64. Yeah, it's been a rough seven years but I think I'm finely coming into the light!
Wae-Ling Goldstein has never seen snow. I think a field trip is in order for today.
However, I do not know how to drive in snow.
Good morning and a very Happy New Year to all!
Pork ribs (country style so no bones) and Sauerkraut are in the slow cooker for my family traditional first meal of the year. I'll make mashed potatoes and bread rolls as well.
I did modify the recipe somewhat--I cut and added a green apple, an onion, some brown sugar and a quarter cup of beer to the Sauerkraut.
Do you know how hard it is to find a single can of beer to buy? I have to pour the rest of it down the drain since I won't drink it. I don't mind cooking with wine and other spirits but I can't stand the taste by itself. Yuck.
Anyway, we will give it a try and see what we get.
What is everyone else having for their First meal?
Patricia Racette was wonderful last night. She sang four Arlen songs, two Rodgers and Hart, two Sondheim, a Gershwin and some stuff associated with Edith Piaf. She's in town to sing the lead role in Strauss' Salome. Wish I could go, but I'll be out of town for both performances.
The symphony followed her with about two hours of A Night in Old Vienna with plenty of the other Strauss to keep folks happy.

I'm hankering for some of that myself. I'm making cole slaw, and Bonnie is whipping up colcannon with bangers. Close, but not quite the same.

On Castrecl, one of the listers included Roberta, And the World Goes Round and Sandy's album among the year's standouts. Nice to see the love being spread around to the right areas.

The rule book says that you then have to perform your own Dance of the 7 Veils instead.

Yay for all the HHW listees. And HHW, Kritzerland and their relatives were especially well-represented in his "Notable Studio or Concert Cast Albums" category:

What, No ice cream? ;)
I suspect that the loaded sweet potato I ate this evening had more calories than Jane eats all week

DR Danise, I'm sorry I wasn't here when you popped in.I'm still here! Hello, DR Jane!!!!
Thank you all for the welcome back greetings!
I have to confess that I don't care much for Sauerkraut but I do this more in memory and respect to my upbringing.
Kinda like Good Friday. You know that normally I won't touch fish but I do on that one day because my Mom asked me to.

Potato chips and onion soup dip for breakfast. How weird is that?

I am sorry that I disappeared last evening before midnight. My laptop died on me, and I couldn't figure out what happened. It turns out that it had become unplugged from the wall, and had been running off of its battery until that ran out too. Whoops!

You must have been very relieved when you realized the reason it died on you. :)
we are back to watching The West Wing after watching a few episodes of The Tudors on BBC America
good as the series seems to be I am surprised and confused by the casting and makeup choices - long after Henry VIII should have been fat and an invalid he is still young and thin and athletic and "horse-faced" Anne of Cleves was portrayed by a beautiful actress
Ginny, I am stunned!

elmore, when I click on Darrel's link and I enter his site it's a blank page. Did he have this stuff on the site or just on castrec-l and if the latter can someone post it here or send it to me?

I went to see Into the Woods and really loved it. Emily Blunt, James Corden, Anna Kendrick and Meryl Streep were all fantastic. I had never seen the show but knew several of the songs so that made it more enjoyable too.

My sister and I saw it today, too. I loved it, too. I did miss (a bit) what was cut, especially the "Agony" reprise, but what was there was very good. :)

Since Billy Magnussen and Rapunzel rode off into the sunset, how could there be an "Agony" reprise?
Now, do we have any Swedish speakers here? I'd love to know what this guy is saying about the Sandy Bainum album - it's second up in his You Tube video. Sandy sent it to me. I hope he liked it :)

DR Jeanne I don't remember Aiken Ave by name though I'm sure I road my bike on it at some point in my childhood :)
I did find this charming cottage style home that recently sold for $1,300,000. Might it have been your uncle's?

Joshie got out tonight. First time he's been out in over a year. He lasted all of three minutes. It is cold outside.

Yes, actually, it might have been! It looked just like that, but without the picket fence.
Aiken parallels Patricia, one street to the west.
Now we're watching the Rose Bowl. Man, Oregon is GOOD!

I believe fried badger is a traditional Kentucky dish, if not a Texas one as well.
