Title: A NOVEL BEGINNING TO THE NEW YEAR
Post by: bk on January 02, 2015, 12:25:11 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of a novel beginning, and now it is time for you to post until the novel cows come home.

Today I'm going to sit in my balance ball chair whilst wearing pedal pushers. Now won't THAT be a sight?      :)

Good morning, all!

This is Friday? I have lost all sense of time in the past two weeks.

I have physical therapy this morning.  I went on Tuesday, and when I arrived, I was told my appointment had been the day before and they wondered why I hadn't called.  I think this wil be my last round. My doctor leaves next week and my HMO hasn't assigned me a new one, and I have no idea whom to ask for a new referral. I also feel that, much as I love it, I've reached a status quo and it's doing nothing for me but keeping me limber and forcing me to exercise, which is not a bad thing at all.

I love the Isaac Bashevis Singer things I've read, and he wrote a wonderful play that died in a really short Broadway run around 1980, Teibele and The Demon. I really loved it, but the critic did not. So, I looked forward to Lentl and really hated it: Shtetl by Laura Ashley.  I do remember that Amy Irving was absolutely gorgeous.

I have never read his rant about the film but I would like to.

Good morning, all.

I remember enjoying Yentl the first time I saw it at the theater. Then, seeing it on cable, I found it interminable. The score really irritated me on that second viewing -- and it still does. It's like the Bergmans took what worked in Ballroom and made it worse on film. If this had been a stage musical, I'm sure the audience would have let them know that much of it needed to be replaced.

Saw it again about 10 years ago and was somewhere in the middle. It has its moments, and I think Amy Irving is one of them. It's also Mandy Patinkin's most restrained performance.

Amen. I'm alone at the office. And in a space that houses several hundred people, it's weird to be the sole person. I hear rumblings from people way far away, but I can't actually see them.

Good morning, all.

Fed kitties and went back to bed for some extra sleep.  I guess it did the job, but now I am quite groggy.

And yes, the days are entirely screwed up.  It does not feel like a Friday.  I would say it feels like a Monday.

Coffee!

Indeed, DR ChasSmith, it does feel like a Monday.  It's been challenging enough for me to keep track of the days the past 2 weeks and my poor Mother has really been confused.  I don't blame that entirely on her age.

Please keep my Dear Niece in your thoughts and prayers.  She had severe abdominal pain last night and was rushed to the hospital. She ended up having emergency surgery in the middle of the night to stop some severe abdominal bleeding.  I don't really know more except that she is out of recovery, talking and may go home later today.   I haven't talked to anyone there, just got notified via email.  I have to wonder if it isn't related to her two c sections in a year and a half

I have physical therapy this morning.   I've reached a status quo and it's doing nothing for me but keeping me limber and forcing me to exercise, which is not a bad thing at all.

That is how I felt after 2 years of PT.  Most of all I miss the shoulder massages my therapist gave me at the end of each session.  I can do the rest on my own.

I went to the float display 43 years ago today with my parents.  We'd gone to the Rose Bowl the day before to see Michigan lose to Stanford, but had not attended the parade.

Last night was a lot of weird dreams aout several erotic obsessions of mine that occurred in and about a combination of several places I worked in the past 40 years: an office supplies store that became a library or book store, an apartment building with turrets, a museum. A lot of people from my past and present, along with several erotic obsessions of mine over the past years, were in it. It was strange.  Then at 4:30am, I was wide awake for about an hour.

Curioser and curioser.

I spent an hour futzing and fixing, as I knew I would need to, but I'm pretty happy with it so far.  I then had a sandwich and onion rings, determined that there were no packages to pick up, so now I'll get back to writing.  I am going to see Grant's daughter in some play this evening.  He's picking me up.  Thankfully, it's only an hour long.

Can it be re-vented to outside the garage?  There were some condos in my complex that had dryers venting into the units' ceilings!  The original condo board allowed that to happened (it was built 30 years ago) and now, those units have had some damage that the HOA has to pay for.  The president at the time allowed some very shaky choices with the building of the buildings.  He's long gone from the HOA, but the current board (and actually several incarnations over the last several years) have had to clean up some stupid mistakes that shouldn't have happened.

I would hate to have to keep my garage door opened EVERY time I did laundry.

It's not so bad.  Not really worth the trouble to change it. I just open the door about 6 inches or so.   It's not up to code, but I really don't think it's hurting anything

Wrote a bit over twelve pages and finished chapter one.  Even though I knew in advance how chapter one was going to end, I was rather surprised at the emotion that I felt.

DR lechienfou, Keith & I have gone to the parade a couple of times but never just to see the floats.  I wish we had done that.  We never took the children though which I would also liked to have done.

My dear friend Patsy, who owned the travel agency where I worked, has a sister that works every year on several of the floats for the Rose Parade.  Patsy went down and helped out one year.  Apparently, this year her sister's group won one of the major awards.

The year that Patsy went down and helped, she thought it would be a lot of fun.  Instead, she said it was more like drudgery.

LENTL!  I like that, Elmore.  Between your LENTL and my VELVITA, we are on our way to a full buffet.

Well, it's time to leave work and go to the theater for the first of the last two performances of "The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!"  We've already been talking about bringing it back in the fall, after the script and score have been tweaked a bit.  It's really been a good show for us (and no royalties REALLY helped)! :D

Until later!

So sorry to hear about Donna Douglas.

I don't know why but I find that I'm still reeling from Robin Williams passing.  I didn't even realize how much I liked him until he was gone.  He always had that twinkle in his eye--I NEVER would have guessed he was that sad inside.

Critic Rob Stevens, who's been reviewing LA theater longer than anyone, over forty years now, is bringing back his Robby Awards, something that began in the early 1970s and continued until a decade ago when Rob moved away.  He's been back for a year and has just announced the nominations - and to say I'm bowled over would be a grand understatement - Li'l Abner is up for NINE Robby Awards, including production, director, best actor and actress, best supporting actor (John Massey), musical direction, music and lyrics, costume design and Kay Cole for choreography.  And as if that wasn't enough bounty, three Kritzerland shows are up for best cabaret/concert performance - our female lyricists show, our April Fool's show and our tribute to Dorothy Fields.  And as if I needed even more icing on the cake, the Sandy Bainum Ira Gershwin show, which I created and directed is up, too.  And I'll tell you why it feels so nice:  Because in my forty four years in this business, I have never been nominated for anything having to do with the theater.  Yes, a Grammy nom, but this is just so much fun!  http://www.haineshisway.com/2015/01/the-29th-annual-robby-award-nominations-by-rob-stevens/

When I lived in Arizona we went to see the floats after a parade, I think it was the Fiesta Bowl, anyway they were covered with flowers and everyone was taking all the flowers from the float.  I thought it was crazy, but when in Rome.  No one  seemed to have a problem with it.  The only thing I remember hearing is to make sure the people who worked on the float got some of the flowers.  Is that normal?
