My book for SHE LOVES ME finally arrived, and, as I had guessed, it's a veritable quagmire of synth string patches of various stripes, some to be played "when there are less than 3 strings in the orchestra". And we have one (count 'em) violin, last I heard. Unless the bass player is included in that count (I certainly don't think so), and I don't know if he's playing stand-up or electric. The small sound of the Broadway revival lives on!

It was an awful orchestration, and the moronic changes to the original score were worse.
I think Glee passed its expiry date after episode one
DRs Cillaliz and JRand64, I appreciate your thought on the Mekeel situation. I do realize that he needed serious help and the friendship we had thirty years ago was a completely different one than it would be now.
BOYHOOD kept getting better and better as it went along. I ended up liking it a lot, too. This has been a good year for movies......
It's a mess....and her defense has cost DR LAURA more the $2.5 million dollars so far.
TCB, you can make chili however you want.
I brought two cans of Skyline back with me when I went to Kentucky. i thought I was going to be stopped at the airport and charged with polluting Texas, but nobody said a word.
DR JANE - that is the only thing that compels me to throw away stuff now and then....the possibility that then new stuff can be added to the collection.
I am home from a loverly brunch with Mr Paul Ford, who is always good for a laugh and a nice visit. He is preparing another concert tour with Mandy Patinkin, staged by Susan Stroman.
Mandy Patinkin and Susan Strohman - no words.
DR CILLA LIZ - the defense team for Jodi A. has been outrageous in its behavior during the mitigation phase of the sentencing trial. They are basically retrying the case in front of the new jury. Shouldn't the judge stop their antics? If it doesn't go to mitigation, should it be allowed.
Their witnesses are defiant of the judge and the prosecutor. Now they are asking for a mistrial because they say they have 13 witnesses who are too afraid to testify. Arias herself gave SECRET testimony for a day and half - no press no public no cameras - the Arizona Supreme Court finally ruled on Friday that that was not legal and that those transcripts must be released. No word on whether she will continue to testify, but if she doesn't, that testimony will be stricken, I assume.
Defense team has also charged prosecutor misconduct saying that they erased evidence from the victim's computer while it was in the property room of the local police department.....they have a couple of wacky computer scientists who are trying to prove that. They want all charges dropped - even though she has been convicted on murder one with premeditation and heinous actions.

DR Vixmom I'm glad your parents are ok.
This poor jury was told the trial would end by December 18 - but now it looks to go past February.
Do convicted criminals who are sentenced have to pay for their own appeals, or do they still qualify for public assistance?

How many shopping days left? :D
Good morning.I received a summons in November for the week of Thanksgiving. I asked for a continuation and just received a summons for the first part of February.
Re Jodi Arias and the legal system: I believe enough time has elapsed that I am eligible for another jury summons. I seem to get one every time my time is up.
elmore, who is your friend, Paul Ford? Is this the New York, writer, Paul Ford, or is there another Mr. Ford with whom I should be familiar?
THen you will need to load up on both Skyline and Gold Star in a can (I couldn't find the latter when I went to buy them) and report on which one is better.TCB, you can make chili however you want.

Note to self: starting next trip, add Skyline supplies to the Vernors and Graeters contraband.
It's a good thing I drive over for those visits. I can fill the back seat and cargo area. Yes sirree! Bring it on!

Ditto!
Today will be a long day. Theater Artists Olympia is having an executive board retreat. I don't know what all we're going to do from 11:0 am until 5:00 pm, but we'll be doing somethings. It's also supposed to be a potluck, so I need to get something to bring.
Feel better vibes for DR Jane!
Good morning, all! I'm working at home this morning, then meeting my friend Paul Ford for lunch at the Westway on 9th and 44th. I've got three numbers to finish for Act One of Gentlemen Be Seated! and I'd like to finish one of them before I head out.

So, J.K. Simmons won a Golden Globe. BK, you worked with him on "Das Barbecu." Any recollections?
He was in my favorite Christmas movie, "The Ref."

I've known Paul since he played piano for a concert production of ONE TOUCH OF VENUS at Town Hall around 1983. He was the roommate of Bill Tynes, who produced the New Amsterdam Theatre Co. He played piano for rehearsals and show for every Sondheim musical after SWEENEY TODD, I believe, and he worked with Paul Gemignani for years on concerts and other shows. When I worked at Drama Book Shop in the 1980s, I used to see him coming to play INTO THE WOODS or SUNDAY IN THE PARK or PASSION as I was heading home. He's a dear friend and as crazy as they come. Kinda like you, DR TCB!

DR Elmore, he clearly valued your friendship as he entrusted you with the poems he wrote in his journal. If you want to visit him, I'd suggest writing to him first. Sometimes you have to put people on your visitation list or they can't visit. Having had lots of contact with people in prison, I can tell you that contact from people they knew and cared about really means a lot to them, but you don't know his frame of mind, so initial contact in a letter is a good idea. If you need help locating him, pm me, I'm sure I can figure out how to locate him

20% of a normal salary! Wow! I think it's $10 a day here plus mileageThis poor jury was told the trial would end by December 18 - but now it looks to go past February.

what I want to know is : How are jurors supposed to pay their mortgages and their other bills? How are they supposed to keep their jobs? I understand the reason for a jury system and being judged "by a jury of your peers" but (at least here in NY) the daily pay is maybe 20% of a normal daily salary AND you don't get any of it until about four weeks after the jury duty is completed... if you are living paycheck to paycheck what happens?
There is a notion DR VIXMOM that the Defense Team, among other shady actions, is prolonging things in order that they will lose enough jurors to cause a mistrial.
The defense attorneys are doing their jobs: get the least penalty possible. I can't blame them for that.
I just think that the prosecution should have asked for life in prison, then we wouldn't still be going on with all this.

If they are the last two people on earth...who will come to see the show?
BK's former costume designer (coordinator?) just won a GG for best actress in a comedy or musical!

I loved J.K. in the musical BIRDS OF PARADISE. I had seen him in 1990 as Jigger in a Houston Grand Opera production of CAROUSEL was was clse to definitive. The 1966 Lincoln Center production with John Raitt, Jerry Orbach, Susan atson, Ried Shelton was definitive.

Maybe you and I are the only ones watching.
Patricia Arquette won supporting actress for "Boyhood."

I was ging to call the Essex County prosecutor's office tomorrow afternoon and see what I can learn about where he is, his attorney, etc. I thought I would contact the attorney representing him first of all. I'm not keen on just jumping onto a train and making a random search of New Jersey prisons

I guess I may have to see that movie.

See your email for the info at the EC Jail. I don't quite understand the information on this sheet...such as the "Dismissed" under the bond and "posted" under the same area. I don't see any other information on line about this case. That seems a bit strange. I would call the clerk of court in that county to see if it's still pending and who his attorney is. Call his attorney not the prosecutor. Calling the prosecutor may get you a visit by an investigator or at least a lot of questions. I doubt you want to deal with that.
Feel better vibes for DR Jane.
I never got the hoopla over the Golden Globes Awards. I looked up who were the members at one time and there were only something like 99 members.
Last I heard you get $30 a day here but if you don't get paid by your employer (and there is no law requiring that they pay you) that is al you get so but in New York you are not going to pay your mortgage, your utilities, your grocery bill , your insurance, your car payment, your phone payment on $150 a week and again you wont even see that pittance until 4 weeks after the service is complete\
and yes , you only get paid if you are chosen so you can spend your precious few vacation days sitting in a room waiting to be chosen or not
I am afraid I find jury duty not so much as a patriotic duty as involuntary servitude

Sorry, Golden Globe.
I think Chase may have had some hacking with credit cards. I got a call tonight about possible fraud on my card. Instead of returning the call to the number they left, I called the number on the back of my card and the only suspicious activity they had was Overstock.com for a dollar. There were no other charges that were at all suspicious as I don't use that card too often anymore. Now, I don't think I did anything on Overstock.com but I'd be really surprised if they always alert someone for a one dollar charge. They are closing my account and issuing me a new card.

Hmmm not sure they can make you take vacation days....
This has been a strange Golden Globe party.
So, what were the big winners?
