Post by: bk on February 03, 2015, 12:23:11 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of Kritzerland at Sterling's 54, and now it is time for you to post until the Kritzerland 54 cows come home.

Tuesday morning greetings!  My flight appears to be on schedule, so I'm proceeding with my plan for today.  After a shower and breakfast I'll take my ALA swag bag down to the FedEx office in the lobby and ship it home - too many books for me to carry!  My shuttle is picking me up just before noon and my flight is just before 3.  Assuming all goes well, I'll have dinner with Richard tonight!

Then of course this is the week that I must begin learning my lines for ANTIGONE.

Good morning, all! I slept late, and the LaCie backup madness continues. We'll see what the day brings.

I must take a trip to the post office and, on that trek, also refill my Metrocard.  Then, I'm back to the Encores! work.

I'm happy to hear the show went well last night, but I am not a big fan of the noodlings and meanderings of Sir Andrew. I enjoyed  the Harold Prince production of of EVITA and the 1980s revival of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT staged, as I recall, by Tony Tanner, but he's not someone whose music I want to hear.  To me, it's sugary frosting with no cake.

I've never heard of restrictions on allowing cats outside.  Henry is an indoor/outdoor cat.  When he is out, he doesn't roam too far away from their house.  He's been very good about that...he has, and stays in, his territory.  And my parents make sure that he's inside before dark, so it really hasn't been a problem.

Good morning afternoon, all.

This, believe it or not, is my first chance to sit down and do something since getting up at seven in the morning.  I've been fighting snow blowers and their parts and gas cans and salt and sand and shovels -- AND running errands in support of all this -- and it's just been ridiculous.  I still have a little more to do in a while.

One nice surprise was finding a few pallets of rock salt and other ice melts at both Home Depot and Lowe's, which I wasn't even there to look for, but I brought home seven bags (350 lbs.) of the stuff.

I guess when that's the high point of your day, you know it's one of those winters.

Congrats to BK on what sounds like an astoundingly great show!

If John Boswell is the one I'm thinking of (was it him playing "Finishing the Hat" a few months back?), then for my taste he's a model of absolute calm, no-nonsense competence.

This is a question for DR CILLA LIZ or any other HHW legal eagle.....if you are completely uninterested in the Jodi Arias case....just skip the rest of this post and ignore it.

The Defense Team has added her to an Omnibus Hearing to be held in March.  This hearing had about a half dozen cases attached to it.  These are cases in which the trial has not started yet.  The hearing is to preclude the Death Penalty in any of the trials.

I guess the thinking is that if the judge rules that the DP cannot be asked for in these cases, then JA will also no longer face the DP.

If however, the sentencing retrial is completed before the Omnibus hearing, and she is given the DP, she no longer qualifies to be part of the hearing.....I guess.  I don't understand how the case of a defendant convicted of first degree murder already could be placed with defendants who haven't even been tried yet.

And the DT is doing everything to delay and prolong the trial.....I guess to make it to the hearing date.

Back from a very productive rehearsal.  Got through act two's clean-up and all is looking pretty good.  The gals are beginning to get off book and I'm being more detailed with every rehearsal.  Then we went back to the top and drilled half the musical numbers in act one, doing a lot of cleaning up and some spacing adjustments for our new theater, although the actual playing space is just about identical.  But we now have proper numbers on the floor, which, of course helps everything.  One of the actors on her way out told me she wouldn't be with us tomorrow.  Apparently she imparted this news last Friday to our stage manager who neglected to impart it to me.  Needless to say, I was not happy about it and found it hard to disguise that fact.  I then had one of our producers talk to her because it impacts so much of our remaining time and that's really unfair to herself, the other actors and me.  So, she's rearranged things and will now be with us.

Then I got the news that our scheduled date for then next Kritzerland show had to be moved due to a scheduling conflict.  This happened once before and I was guaranteed eight weeks' notice, rather than the four that we just got.  So, we do the second Sunday, which just makes the April show harder because it comes up more quickly now.  Happily, our one actor who is cast is fine with the change.  It's taken over a year to get our guest star back with us, but now her involvement may be in jeopardy - we'll know later.

We've been going back and forth for almost a week now, but have finally made the decision not to go with tracks, but to use an actual pianist.  I'll miss certain percussion and drum things but it's worth it to not put these women into a little airless box in terms of interpretation and tempos of songs.

Harper Lee has supposedly written a sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird.

From what I've read it was written not long after Mockingbird and has been in a lockbox all these years.  It's from the perspective of Scout as an adult.

I'm curious, was it less expensive to mail it than to pay extra baggage on the plane?  How many books were in it?  I remember how much fun I had collecting books and other goodies the one and only ALA I went to.  I have my little magnetic paper clip holder sitting next to me on my desk.

I could move to Canada just for that ruling.  Is is country wide or just or area?  Aside from the concerns I have about the safety of an outdoor cat, I found it extremely annoying when they came and bothered my cats, and at all hours of the night too.

I really didn't do a cost analysis, DR Jane.  FedEx-ing was convenient because they have an office right in the hotel where I was staying.  I think there are about a dozen books, plus my conference program book, some other papers, and some pens & post-it pads.

Harper Lee has supposedly written a sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird.

Did you read the details?  I got the impression she wrote this first and was encouraged to write about Scout.

The 3 United flights after mine from Chicago to Dayton this evening have all been cancelled, so I really don't expect my suitcase tonight.

I'm curious, was it less expensive to mail it than to pay extra baggage on the plane?  How many books were in it?  I remember how much fun I had collecting books and other goodies the one and only ALA I went to.  I have my little magnetic paper clip holder sitting next to me on my desk.

I've never seen a FedEx in a hotel.  I would have also used it.

And the 3 flights before mine were all delayed, so I guess I was pretty lucky just to get here on time myself.

Richard is still trying to wrap his head around 7 flights per day between Chicago and Dayton on Uniited.  And other airlines fly that route, too.

Mine will pale in comparison to some that have been posted on Twitter!  One woman's book freebies covered the entire extra queen-size bed in her Chicago hotel room.

Well, it could be worse.  My young former co-worker Kristen was supposed to leave yesterday and her flight was cancelled, so she was rebooked to leave at 5pm today.  She didn't make it and is spending her second surprise night in Chicago.  Apparently, I got out just before it started to snow again.

Nope, and she'd already checked her bag.  But she was able to get it back.  I don't know where she's staying.

That's what I'd read...that this "new" book was written first, but then the publisher (I think) suggested she write about the main character (Scout) as a child and the original book got set aside and was never thought of again until now.

DR George are cats allowed outside where you live?  Here they are not supposed to roam outside, but it is not unforced.  It is so freezing cold out right now I can't imagine it would be pleasant to be an outdoor cat. :(

I could move to Canada just for that ruling.  Is is country wide or just or area?  Aside from the concerns I have about the safety of an outdoor cat, I found it extremely annoying when they came and bothered my cats, and at all hours of the night too.

I think each area has their own rules.

This week has been a blur in terms of dancing. We started quickstep Sunday and took on Viennese waltz tonight. My brain feels like it's in a blender. Thankfully, we aren't learning too many steps in either, but they require going over again and again and again.
