Well, you've read the notes, the notes discussed karma, and now it is time for you to post until the karmic cows come home.

Regarding the TOD:  I think bad things hit well-intentioned people just as much as they hit evil-intentioned people.  Sometimes, luck has an evil-intentioned person get some bad luck.  Is that karma?
Title: Re: KARMA
Post by: FJL on February 05, 2015, 04:24:51 AM
Or - in order for it to be karma, does the bad thing that happens to the evil-intentioned person have to relate in some way to the evil things the person did?  (like what George described earlier - a human resources person losing his own job)

Good morning, all! Because I stayed in bed so long yesterday, I slept very poorly last night.  The fact that the temperature was up in the 40s last night didn't help either.  i do recall dreaming that DR Ginny and Richard amd I went to an underground film at the Colonial Theatre, now the Sorg Opera House, in my home town.  In another dream, I was renting an apartment in a very strange building, and Rebecca Luker was a neighbor.

Around 11:00, I will go down to City Center and visit with Joshie.  He orchestrated Judy Kuhn's concert last night, and I want to hear how it went.

Good morning, all.

Well, I wasn't able to completely avoid this becoming a cold, but I do believe it will remain a light one.  That said, however, I'm sick of this already.  My third cold since October?  It must be karmic retribution for something!

TOD:

I think you all are taking the word "Karma" a little too literally. I think Bruce really just wants examples of "poetic justice".
Unfortunately, I don't have any examples of poetic justice from my own life. The only thing I can come up with that's remotely close is that some vile person I used to work with once made fun of me for saying I'd really like to work in a cubicle near a window so I could look up now and then and see some blue sky. I found it really made a difference to my psyche. Later, she was babbling with a co-worker in Spanish and I hear her say in a very snotty sarcastic tone: "cielo azul". I came to realize after that, that she often talked smack about me in Spanish because I'd taken years of it in school and could understand just enough to make out a few words. Anyway, management moved my team around to various floors and areas several times over the next several years, and our cubes kept getting smaller and smaller and never near a window. Meanwhile, the vile person filed two anonymous complaints against me, and I finally started applying for new jobs within the company. It took a year and a half, but I was finally hired into a completely separate department. The new job is a lateral move, but the people are wonderful. Funny this question came up today because on Monday they moved me into a HUGE cubicle right up against a freakin' window!! It's all I've ever wanted for the past ten years and I finally have it. I open the blinds every day around lunch time and I can actually put my feet up on the window sill and gaze out if I wanted. So, nothing bad has happened to the vile person, but she's still stuck in a tiny cubicle not near any windows. :-)

I do find there seem to be coincidences here on Haines His Way, if not actual karma - like Bruce saying "I don't know nothin' about birthin' babies" the same week I used the same phrase in an e-mail to some friends. Also, he asked us to report on our favorites cars the same week that mine was totaled in an accident. And now he's asking about Karma the same week I finally get my cubicle near a window. Coincidence or karma?? Hmmmm....

Instant Karma, the day on a winding mountain road this idiot drive kept attempting to pass us.  I kept blocking him in fear that he would crash and kill someone coming around a curve in the opposite direction.  Finally I let him pass.  About five minutes later my friend was all excited to see up ahead a policeman giving the idiot a ticket.

A car incident happened to me years ago.  I was driving on the freeway, exiting to the right but in the left lane of the two-lane exit (hopefully that makes sense), and a bunch of kids passed me on the right and tried to get in front of me in the left lane.  However, right where the left and right exit lanes split, they hit a pothole as they were getting in front of me and blew out a tire!  They were able to stop safely, but they got what for. ;)

I just laughed and laughed!

There have been many times when I've wanted to see that happen, but have not yet been so fortunate.  The closest I've come is on the drive into Oxford, Ohio, when some hotshot passes me on the hilly, 2-lane road only to have me pull up right behind him/her at the traffic light on the edge of town.

I was very concerned, Keith wasn't, that re-painting the office with the previous color wouldn't work with the new carpet we picked.  While I was away today the handyman put one brush of paint on the wall and called Keith in.  He hadn't seen the new carpet but was sure the color had too much pink in it.  Keith picked a new color, the guy went out and got it, and from what I saw it was very pretty and should look great with the new carpet, both of which have brown in them.

I can't go look at it because it bothers me to get too close to that room right now.  It bothers me away from the room but is more tolerable.  Fortunately we don't sleep near it.

Is everyone familiar with those bed pillows, the ones with the armrests.  Well, I have had several over the years,  but I always hoped they would be very comfortable, but they never were.  So, I finally bought one last year from Hammacher and  Schlemmer.  And surprise surprise, it is wonderful.  It has heat and vibration, and a cup holder, and a reading light.  It is the greatest!

That soundslovely

Ushered a well-staged production of "True West" tonight. There was a small audience of only about 50 or so, but the most laughs seemed to be coming from us ushers. Go figure.

Best line of the evening, however, was not form the play, but from a theatergoer. After the curtain calls, the woman turned to her daughter and said, "Oh, by the way, your Uncle Russ died in prison yesterday."

I would agree with you that ones I've had were never what they should have been. Plus, they always seem to come apart at the seams.

Good evening. I didn't sleep well last night at all.  I was very upset about something that happened in a case and was angry all night long

I did send a sort of professional email about the situation.  I got a response, but my friend advised me to sleep on it before responding and I decided to take her advice

We watched BOYHOOD. I was totally underwhelmed.  I get the gimic, but the movie was really pretty boring.  Fiona at one point asked "What's the difference between this and home movies?"

Ricky enjoyed having company, Boo came and said hi and then went to sleep in the other room.....Callie had the look that she was sure this was a new cat sitter interview.  I think she finally got over it. I've decided I need to invite people over more often

I like Fiona too.  She's doing what I used to, watching all the movies before the Oscars.   She was going home to try to figure out why Boyhood was so favored for Best Picture.   We honestly couldn't figure it out - other than the 12 year filming gimic

What about now?

Now?

Now, as the sweet imbecilities
 Tumble so lavishly
 Onto her lap,
 Now, there are two possibilities:
 A, I could ravish her,
 B, I could nap.
Say It's the ravishment, then we see
 The option
 That follows, of course:
A, The deployment of charm, or
 B, The adoption
 Of physical force.
 Now, B might arouse her,
But if I assume I trip on my trouser
 Leg crossing the room...
 Her hair getting tangled,
 Her stays getting snapped,
 My nerves would be jangled,
 My energy sapped...
 Removing her clothing
 Would take me all day,
 And her subsequent loathing
 Would turn me away,
 Which eliminates B
And which leaves us with A.
 Now, insofar as approaching it,
 What would be festive
 But have its effect?
Now, there are two ways of broaching it:
 A, the suggestive,
 And B, the direct.
Say that I settle on B, to wit,
 A charmingly Lecherous mood,
A, I could put on my nightshirt or sit
 Disarmingly, B, in the nude.
 That might be effective;
 My body's all right--
 But not in perspective
 And not in the light.
 I'm bound to be chilly
 And feel a buffoon,
 But nightshirts are silly
 In mid-afternoon.
 Which leaves the suggestive,
 But how to proceed?
 Although she gets restive,
 Perhaps I could read.
 In view of her penchant
 For something romantic,
 De Sade is to trenchant
 And Dickens too frantic,
 And Stendhal would ruin
 The plan of attack,
As there isn't much blue in "The Red and the Black."
 De Maupassant's candour
 Would cause her dismay,
 The Brontes are grander
 But not very gay,
 Her taste is much blander,
 I'm sorry to say,
 But is Hans Christian Ander-
 Sen ever risque?
 Which eliminates A...
 Now, with my mental facilities
 Partially muddied
 And ready to snap,
 Now, though there are possibilities
Still to be studied, I might as well nap.
 Bow
 Though I must
 To adjust
 My original plan,
 How
 Shall
 I sleep
 Half as deep
 As I usually can,
When now I still want and/or love you,
 Now as always,
 Now, Anne?

Now is always the best time.

 Now, do it now
While he's gassing himself to a palpable stupor
The timing's ideal and the moment is super
To ready and fire and blow the sick bastard away
Now, do it now
Just a flicker of pressure right here on the trigger
And Audrey won't have to put up with that pig for another day
Now, for the girl, now, for the plant
 Now, yes I will but I can't

Don't be fooled if I should giggle
 Like a sappy, happy dope
It's just the gas, it's got me high
But don't let that fact deceive you
 Any moment I could die
Though I giggle and I chortle
Bear in mind, I'm not immortal
Why this whole thing strikes me funny
 I don't know
'Cause it really is a rotten way to go

What we have here is an ethical dilemma
'Less I help him get the mask removed
 He doesn't have a prayer
True the gun was never fired
 But the way events transpired
I could finish him with simple laissez faire
What we have here is a tricky moral problem
Do I help remove the mask, or let him go for lack of air?
Couldn't shoot him when I tried, but the fates are on my side
I can off the guy by staying in the chair...

Don't be fooled if I should chuckle
 Like hyenas in a zoo
It's just the gas, it turns me on
But don't let my mirth deceive you
 Any moment, I'll be gone
All my vital signs are failing
 'Cause the oxide I'm inhaling
Makes it difficult as hell to catch my breath
Are you dumb or hard of hearing
Or relieved my end is nearing?
Are you satisfied? I laughed myself to

Death

Later?

Later...
 When is later?
All you ever hear is "Later, Henrik, Henrik, later."
 "Yes, we know, Henrik,
Oh, Henrik, Everyone agrees, Henrik, Please, Henrik!"
You have a thought you're fairly bursting with,
A personal discovery or problem, and it's:
 "What's your rush, Henrik?
 Shush, Henrik!
 Goodness, how you gush, Henrik!
 Hush, Henrik!"
 You murmur:
 "I only-- It's just that--"
 "For God's sake, later, Henrik!"
 "Henrik... Who is Henrik?
Oh, that lawyer's son, the one who mumbles.
 Short and boring,
 Yes, he's hardly worth ignoring,
And who cares if he's all dammed--"
 I beg your pardon--
 "Up inside?"
 As I've often stated,
 It's intolerable being tolerated.
"Reassure Henrik, Poor Henrik. Henrik, you'll endure
 Being pure, Henrik."
Though I've been born, I've never been!
How can I wait around for later?
I'll be ninety on my deathbead
And the late, or, rather, later, Henrik Egerman.
 Doesn't anything begin?
