Well, you've read the notes, the notes had The Flying Spoons, and now it is time for you to post until The Flying Cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: EXORDIUM!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Hi, Ben!
-
Topic of the Day: I don't know if I've ever been to a real circus...traveling carnival, yes, but not a circus.
-
He sails through the air with the greatest of ease,
That daring young man on the flying trapeze.
-
My parents used to take me regularly to Ringling Brothers when I was a kid. I used to buy the souvenir program and spend weeks after the event poring over it.
-
But now I realize how impoverished I was, since Ringling Brothers did not feature The Flying Spoons, as any circus worth its name should do.
-
DR elmore3003 - great to see you on SoundCloud!
-
Here are some of the Flying Wallendas:

Good morning, all! After a horrible night of sleep, I am out of bed nd wishing I were not.
After therapy, i'll return here and continue with Encores!
-
DR Slingshot, Soundcloud was easy; I still do not understand youtube's inner works at all. What I do not like about Soundcloud is that once the selection finishes, all my uploaded tracks are available. That should be private. Perhaps I need to learn what parameters to set up.
-
About every year in the 1950s and early 1960s a rather tatty, third-rate circus arrived in Middletown and usually set up in a large piece of abandoned farm land not from from my Aunt Ruth's home. My cousins, my brothers, and I spent some time touring the grounds, buying cotton candy and watching everyone and everything. We never saw a performance; we grew up poor.
I do recall, like the rodeo, that when I was very young, I was in the audience, but I was s young that for years after I could never tell if it were a dream or reality.
-
In honor of DR Laura, I have jury duty today. We'll see how it goes.
-
Good morning to all
-
The Shriners Circus would come to the original Montreal Forum. It was a three ring circus. That's all I remember
-
Wow!
The Flying Spoons!
BK, your talents are endless.
Perhaps there's a song there? Even a full Broadway musical?
::)
-
TOD:
I went to a couple of circuses when I was a kid, but they didn't make much of an impression on me.
I was never a circus fan.
I didn't even like THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, the worst movie to even win the Best Picture Oscar.
-
Monday morning greetings! Busy day today - lunch with a Cincinnati friend who has a carload of books to donate to AAUW and then our February AAUW meeting tonight. We're meeting at our new-ish hospital for remarks from the CEO followed by a mini-tour of the facility.
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee!
And, sadly, the last cinnamon roll. But there will be more. Trust me on that. Get us through this snowstorm, and I promise you, everything will be coming up cinnamon rolls.
-
TOD
I vaguely remember being taken to one (probably small) circus as a kid, but it's possible that there were a few more that I simply don't remember at all. As much as I loved carnivals and fairs, I never warmed up to the circus.
I dearly love BARNUM, the musical. But I, too, have never been able to sit through THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH. I don't recall other circus movies, pro or con, at the moment. You couldn't drag me to a super-circus, and you'd have to put me in the Clockwork Orange chair to get me to watch one on TV.
-
TOD - we went to the Shrine Circus at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum. That venue is famous for the 1962 accident that killed several members of The Flying Wallendas. We weren't there for that, fortunately, but I do remember seeing Clyde Beatty, the lion tamer. The big finish was some guy being shot out of a cannon. Mostly, I remember the cotton candy.
-
The Flying Spoons - are they signed yet with CAA?
-
We need pictures from the Robby Awards.
I watched the Bafta Awards instead of the Gramma Awards last night. The Baftas were most entertaining, although the final surprise moment was spoiled by some old cow who had come out just before the give an honorary award. MOOOOOOOO......
-
Perhaps if I had been introduced to The Flying Spoons at an early age, things would be different now. I'm depraved on account of I was deprived.
-
More coffee!
-
I have never been to a circus.....a carnival, yes.....but not an actual circus. I have seen many on television of course.
On Friday nights on NBC there used to be a circus program that went to different European circuses that was sometimes interesting. However it was on that show that I first saw and developed an intense hatred for the horrible clown in the capri leg pantsuit with the pointy hat. I guess he's known as the European White Face.

Good morning, all.
Happy Monday vibes.
-
TOD:
When I was a kid, I wanted to like the circus, but it bored me, except for the horse and rider act. Hated the clowns. Still hate the clowns. Instead of sending them in, send them away.
I liked Fellini's movie "The Clowns" because of how perverse it was. He says in his narration that he made the movie because people told him it's a natural subject matter for him, but then he says he hates clowns and proceeds to show how unfunny they are.

This storm is staying farther to the north than the recent ones. We're in it here in CT, but perhaps our taking vixmom's snow this time has helped to lighten her burthen just a little bit.

I guess they are more knickers than capris.....

From DR Jennifer:
There are many reasons the swimmer can be disqualified. Each stroke has its own rules. You can only touch the wall with one hand in back and front, and two hands in breast and fly. The turns are a big thing. For relays it is the turns or if you go in before the swimmer before you touches the wall.
The biggest thing is backstroke. You cannot turn to look for the wall. And the turns have to be done a certain way.
Thanks for explaining. It sounds like a hard but important lesson the swimmers are all learning.
-
I am home from therapy. I got an email from Rob Berman that our ROBERTA producer Judy Sherman got her fourth Grammy last night. I am very happy for her.

I think (and I don't know why) they were being unnecessarily harsh. 4 out of 6 teams in one race were disqualified?? Our best team with the best swimmers?? Plus my sister said that this one lady was being such a witch about it. She was smiling as she was disqualifying kids. These are little kids (8-10). Why would a person be happy to disqualify someone?
Sometimes there is an obvious mistake. But I hate to see kids disqualified.
-
To do this with a smile also changes the lesson making it about the mean witch vs their own mistakes. Hard on the children and harder for their adult people to watch. It is the same as watching your child strike out at the plate.

Congrats to Ms Sherman on her Grammy! Did Kanye try to take it away from her as she left the building?

And thanks to DR JOHN G for the CD that arrived in the mail today.....most excellent!

Her voice sounds so familiar. I must've heard her before. I listen to a local radio station KBRD (http://www.kbrd.org/) that plays nothing but songs from the 1920s to the 1970s (it's the only radio station I listen to in my car!). I wonder if that's where I'd heard her before.
-
Here's a little something for VIXMOM:
-
Prolly DR GEORGE she had quite an extensive recording career.
There is a studio album of the songs from SHOWBOAT with Barbara Cook as Magnolia and Anita Darian as Julie.
According to The Official Masterworks Broadway Site, "Darian's most widely distributed recording by far, although it was made anonymously, was The Tokens' 1961 hit single "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" ("[The Lion Sleeps Tonight|Wimoweh]"), on which she provided the extremely high wordless soprano vocal during the saxophone solo in counter-melody to the lead."
-
T.O.D.
When I was a kid, I went to the circus many times. I saw Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey two or three times; but I attended the Shrine Circus every year in my youth. In the 60's I think that Circus Vargas was the company that came to Tacoma under the banner of Shrine Circus. My sister's future in-laws ran concessions for the Shrine Circus in town, so I didn't have to pay to get in during the mid-60's. I believe I also saw the Clyde Beatty Circus once when i was a kid.
I always theought that the circus would be more fun than it usually turned out.

It appears that DR FJL and Skip have a lovely new family member, Liam.

Congratulations, guys! :)

Did the Costco run and all should be ready for this evening. I'll now shower and then be on my way to the El Portal. I'll try to remember to take photographs.
-
Congratulations on the new canine to DR FJL & SKIP....what a handsome lad!
-
Everything for the PAINT YOUR WAGON Tuba is finished except the Exit Music, which I. will shortly begin.
-
About time!
!!! 3 !!!
-
Just had to take my second pass today with the snow blower along 200 feet of driveway, thanks to the UPS truck knocking down so much of my lovely snow wall.
I'm not blaming him. They're huge trucks, it's dark, it's the end of his day, and they never fail to get here. (All of the drivers here are good.)
But... waaaahhhhhh!!! :(

Congrats to FJL and Skip! (and to Liam)!

I just wanted to get that off my chest.
It is weird but when I looked at all those snows I read them as swons. It was so busy my eyes went in reverse ;D

Congratulations to DR FJL & Skip. May you have many wonderful years together.

I hope you had a good evening.

Well, I must go now. I'm going to audition for Olympia Little Theatre's production of Laughing Stock (http://www.olympialittletheater.org/list_of_shows.html#LaughingStock). I've never acted for them. I've only done tech. This was the play reading that I was asked to be a part of back in December. Hopefully, I'll get cast.
Until later!

The vibes kind of worked. I got my test results and there was minuscule improvement. The doctor said to take a break this year from the horrid meds which I was hoping for. I will very likely loose more than I gained without them, only time will tell.
-
Well, DR Jane - if you're happy, I'm happy.
-
Thanks, not sure about happy as I'm nervous but also relieved I can skip the stuff for a year.
-
I'm afraid I'm too tired to push much further toward the next page.
-
This storm is staying farther to the north than the recent ones. We're in it here in CT, but perhaps our taking vixmom's snow this time has helped to lighten her burthen just a little bit.
I greatly appreciate it!

And . . . it's about bedtime for me.

Beautiful addition to the family.

Two and a half hours of intense dance classes and rehearsal tonight. My body is already rejecting me.

Listening to the last of Stephen King's Revival.
It is his homage to the original novel of Frankenstein, but it took him a little while to get there.

Got a box of Sepia CDs, which had been on sale recently. Guess I'll be listening to some London cast albums in the near future. Julian Slade and the like, Grab Me a Gondola, Make Me an Offer, Cranks, the Water Gipsies. They look fun.

How are you, Vixmom?

Glad the news was better than not, Jane.

I need to get to work.

Home at the end of a delightful, friend-filled day. Deborah and I had lunch at Bravo and then transferred 3 boxes of nice books from her car to mine. I came home for a bit and Becky arrived to accompany me to Atrium Medical Center for this month's AAUW meeting. The CEO spoke, then we had a mini tour. We visited the rehab floor, the infusion center, and the ER. They gave us each a scrub top as a souvenir.
-
Better today thanks john
-
Congratulations to Liam on finding such great new people!
-
I am sorry to hear you are aching john I hope a hot shower and a nights rest puts you to rights
-
I woke early this morning and decided I might as well head into work
-
The car was totally encased in ice but I was ble to finally get the car door open and started the car up and ran the heater while I came in and had a cup of coffee
-
Sounds nasty, Vixmom. I'm sure you're missing Florida right now.
-
That's it for me today.
-
Good night, all.
-
Hello. Long but very good day today.
-
Oh come on you guys! 102 posts?
-
I don't know if I can do this again.
-
I had a really lazy day today.
-
I got up at seven, made some coffee, and then checked my e-mails.
-
But I kept dozing off at my computer.
-
I decided maybe I should watch something on TV.
-
So, first I had a second cup of coffee.
-
After the second cup I figured I was wide awake.
-
So I moved over to the recliner, turned on my Fire Stick, and promptly fell asleep.
-
And I woke up about three hours later.
-
So, then it was a little late to waste some time watching DOWNTON ABBEY.
-
So, instead I took a shower and went to the grocery store.
-
So, instead I took a shower and went to the grocery store.
Oh wait, I should have mentioned that I got dressed after my shower.
-
So, instead I took a shower and went to the grocery store.
Oh wait, I should have mentioned that I got dressed after my shower.
Wait, wait, maybe I should have mentioned that I dried off before I got dressed.
-
Anyway, I went to the store to get something to cook in my new oven.
-
According to the Instruction Book, I could cook boneless chicken breasts in 10 minutes using the pressurized feature.
-
Well, I guess I did something wrong.
-
(Excuse me)
One more post!
-
Page Five!!
-
First of all, I don't think I preheated the oven long enough.
-
I thought the green ready light had come on, but seeing it come on later, I think I was wrong.
-
The other problem was that the timer dial is not very accurate.
-
The timer goes up to 120 minutes, but the first time signature is 20 minutes, which makes it tough when you only want to cook something for ten minutes.
-
Of course, it would have been worse if I had tried cooking less than a pound of chicken, because then I would need to figure out nine minutes.
-
Anyway, my first try was a bust. I cut into one of the breasts, and the whole center was raw.
-
There were no instructions on how to pressure cook half-cooked chicken; so I just set the oven for regular cooking and baked them another twenty minutes.
-
I am not going to blame the oven just yet, I think it was my screw up.
-
The chicken was really good once it was cooked.
-
I think I will try a roast next.
-
I want to try cooking the 10 pound turkey in 45 minutes, but I think I need to master the oven first, before I try one of those.
-
And that was it for my exciting day.
-
Jeanne, don't judge the oven by my first aborted attempt.
-
Good grief, if we didn't have enough trouble with the measles outbreak, but now we have a mumps outbreak to go with it.
-
I am all for giving parents the freedom of choice, but if they don't want to give their kids the shots, then they should home school the children so that they don't infect the rest of the kids.
-
Some of the foster parents in this state are protesting the fact that the state requires all members of a foster family must be immunized in order to have children placed with them.
-
Give me a break! We are paying these people to care for these foster children and to keep them safe. How can they keep the children safe, if the family hasn't had their vaccinations?
-
Sorry if anyone disagrees with me, but it is my podium tonight since no one else is here to debate the issue.
-
And, of course, tomorrow I will deny that I wrote those posts!
-
I hope that BK had a successful night at the awards tonight. He is certainly the hardest working man in show biz.
-
And on that note (b flat), I will sign off for the night.
-
Congrats to Skip and Fred on their new baby!
-
G'night!
-
Well, I must go now.
Well, the audition went well. There were more people than the director expected, so first he had anyone who wanted to read a scene to pair up and read the scenes (all the scenes only had two people and were probably just a half to a full page in length...and they used a large font).
-
I read one randomly-given-to-me scene with a friend, so that was good. And the part that I read just happened to be for the character that I am interested in!
-
All the scene auditions were done one at a time, up in the upstairs of the theater's storage building, so no one watched the others.
-
After all the scenes were done, the director had everyone gather together and watch all the monologues. It was all fun and no one embarrassed themselves.
-
I was the second to go and I think I read fairly well. After I finished (and everyone seemed to really like the monologue), the director said that that monologue was his favorite in the whole play. I wasn't the only one who read that scene, but I wanted to be the first so that I could get it out of the way.
-
Anyway, everyone went and we all enjoyed the different interpretations of the few monologues that were available to be read. :)
-
SIX
-
After everyone was done and we were leaving, the director said to me, "You're still looking very good."
Meaning, for the role! :D
-
Sorry if anyone disagrees with me, but it is my podium tonight since no one else is here to debate the issue.
I agree with you Tom. To quote Star Trek, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one."
-
And that's my 2¢.
-
Posts modified.
;)
-
So, the director said that we should all be contacted by Friday afternoon. If he has callbacks, they will be Friday evening.
-
Back from the Robby Awards and then dinner. More about all of that in the notes. Sadly, Kritzerland, who had three shows nominated, came up without a win. A shame, really. Li'l Abner, which was up for nine awards actually won one of them - John Massey as Marryin' Sam.
-
And now for a very sweet story...San Diego Couple Shares First-Ever Male Same-Sex Ceremonial First Kiss (http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/San-Diego-Couple-Shares-First-Ever-Male-Same-Sex-Ceremonial-First-Kiss-291344541.html).
"The first kiss took place during the homecoming of USS San Francisco."
;D
-
Hope the Robby Awards Ceremony went off without a hitch!
