Post by: bk on February 10, 2015, 02:13:02 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes didn't win a Robby Award, and now it is time for you to post until the award-winning cows come home.

Didn't we all vote for the Robbie Awards? I was sure rooting for LI'L ABNER, BK.  i'm sorry, but it's an honor being nominated.

I don't know if my two ghostly encounters last night were related, but the first was quite strange: after I turned out the lights and settled down, I heard a new sound out of the ordinary and then I was aware that someone was standing over me.  Without my glasses, I'm blind so I have no idea if it were male or female, but my impression was that it was tall, slender, wearing bibb overalls, and then it was gone. Then, early this morning, I dreamed I was living with my family in a house with a lot of spirit activity, and my mother, who was in the dream but not the ghost in the dream, had had a very unsettling encounter there alone one night.  Then we met the ghost: a little boy named Hayden - tow-headed, white shirt, and bib overalls- who was lonely and liked to play pranks.  He said there were other spirits in the house as well.

I also seemed to be in this dream varying ages: my cousins were all still adolescent which would put me in my teens, then at one point I seemed to be the age I am now, working on a project and distracted by the spooks and flickering lights, then I was a college kid talking to my mother about needing to redo some closet space.

One of my dreams was a new twist on my old downtown Columbus theme.  I seemed to be riding a moped, and I was amazed at what a huge weird sort of highway High St. had become, right at the Main St. crossing.  There's more to it than that, but I don't have it in me to try dredging it up.

Chef TCB, I won't judge the oven while you're still learning how to use it. Only fair to give you some time for "operator error."   :)

My guess is that it'll cook some things really well, but others so-so--at least for the pressurized part. I like the versatility of it, that you can pressurize or not. A very interesting concept, IMHO.

Hi all, didn't realize I'd been  E and T for several days....yesterday I had a nasty case of the stomach flu.  I did manage to sleep about 15 hours in 3 hour increments. I stayed home today and actually finished and filed the brief.  We can do electronic filing now, which is so much easier than all the copies and mailing we used to have to do.

Speaking of spooky things.  The upstairs tv has turned on by itself twice this week.  I think the first time may have been a result of the power going out and on, but this morning at 4:45 it just came on.  The cats were all in their beds, so unless Ricky turned it on and then ran to his bed, it came on by itself

Well, you may have a ghost or two.  I generally don't mind the ones who wander in and out of here, but the ones in the house where I grew up, as well as the ones in my grandmother's house, were very unsettling.

So, DR George, what is this play?  The title sounded familiar.  Did it ever play New York?

It's called "Laughing Stock (http://www.dramatists.com/cgi-bin/db/single.asp?key=3607)" by Charles Morey.  It's not listed at www.ibdb.com, nor the Lortel Archives.  I found a short bio of the author at the bottom of this website (http://www.cvlt.org/78thSeason/laughingstock.php):

Quote
Charles Morey has been the Artistic Director of the Pioneer Theatre Company, the professional theater in residence at the University of Utah, since 1984. While there, he has directed more than 60 productions. Morey has directed at various institutions including New York’s Ark Theatre Company and Ensemble Studio Theatre in New York City, in addition to numerous theaters throughout the country such as the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Meadow Brook Theatre, American Stage, PCPA Theatrefest and Utah Shakespearean Festival. He has written adaptations of five 19th-century classic novels in addition to his two original works, Laughing Stock and Dumas’ Camille.

Geoff Packard was in the WHERE'S CHARLEY? I scored at Goodspeed in 2004, and he's really a good guy.  I don't know if this is Matthew Inge's concert that I worked on since he's not advertising it on his site.  If it's from Ingenuity Productions, i've got work in it.

This Valentine's weekend enjoy the sweet and sultry sounds of Broadway sensation, Ashley Brown.
Brown is known for originating the title role of Mary Poppins on Broadway.

Joining Ashley on stage will be Broadway performer, Geoff Packard.

Music from the Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, a medley from Wicked and of course music from Mary Poppins.

The evening will also highlight American classics like:
I've Got the World on a String
     Smile
     My Funny Valentine
Saturday Night is the Loneliest Night of the Week
     If I were a Bell

This evening is the perfect not only for that special date night but it will be just as much fun for the entire family.
Come celebrate music from the American Song book, Broadway, and Disney classics

Geoff Packard was in the WHERE'S CHARLEY? I scored at Goodspeed in 2004, and he's really a good guy.  I don't know if this is Matthew Inge's concert that I worked on since he's not advertising it on his site.  If it's from Ingenuity Productions, i've got work in it.

I'll see what's in the program.  All I've seen is just that it's with the Sioux City Symphony

Tuesday evening greetings!  This morning I went to the book sale site to deliver the 3 boxes I picked up yesterday, sorted books 'til noon, and went to lunch with 7 of the other workers.  Then did some shopping for Mom and delivered that to her.  She wanted to be pushed in her wheelchair to her mailbox and up and down several hallways.  I was thrilled she wanted to be out and about.  Stopped on the way home for a present for Mary Linda's birthday (tomorrow). And finally got home about 4.  Must have been worn out, because I fell asleep in my chair for almost 2 hours.

TCB  I am of your viewpoint re the vaccinations

I heard a really well done editorial about how the media is perpetuating the myth that there is or ever was any validity to the suggested connection to vaccinations and autism on NPR last week I have been try into find the text of it but no luck to date

I agree.  I do wish the one side didn't keep saying there isn't any evidence.  I believe if an alternative vaccination schedule, after the age autism shows up, had been proposed there would be more children protected today.  A study from this group to compare the ratio of autistic children would have been interesting.

Elmore, did the tax go up or the assessment of the value of the property?  I know here when they raise the assessment you can challenge that.  I did last time and they lowered it.  If you haven't been able to sell the property that's a good argument that it isn't worth whatever they are valuing it

The day has been glorious. The temperature reached into the lower 80s and the sun felt healing and warm on my aching back as I trimmed the roses back. Or at least most of the roses.

Sadly, I now have many little thorn cuts in my hands.

I thought the BBC series was better than the book, but Jane Austen got lost in both attempts to be a sequel to her brilliance. I didn't like the Lizzie Bennett, and P.D. James is very nasty to the charming Col. Brandon of P&P. I liked the actress playing Lydia and the screenplay adds Mr & Mrs Bennett, who do not appear in the novel.

Back from a pretty damn good first dress - no major disasters, although some of the cast was distracted by some costume issues, but no stops and more amazingly our band, who'd never rehearsed with our singers, played the show almost perfectly, and any problems were due to the fact the monitor system had no vocals in it, which will be addressed tomorrow.
