I just reviewed all the posts I missed during Sunday evening's Oscar bash. Low turnout this year, but a delightful read. How nice to see BK turning the big 80,000, and to have been dropped in on by DR Edisaurus.
However, after all is said and done, the award for Best Post goes to vixmom:QuoteThen I made since large British breakfast for vixdad and myself

DR Ginny, I did receive my copy of The Miamian yesterday, but if you don't mind sending your copy, I'll pass it on to Rob, since he's mentioned in it.

They announced the new cast of Dancing With The Stars this morning. Why are they having Michael Sam dance with a female partner? They are plenty of gay dancing competitions in which the partners are same sex? Heck, tango's origins include many men dancing with men.
For the most part the cast (of celebs) was not too interesting. But there was one reveal that had me so excited.
All of the pro dancers had already been revealed but two. After they announced the "stars" they cut to New York. I was sort of down because the cast did not really feature anyone I knew (yes there were obviously a few older/more famous people that I knew). But nobody too exciting to me who I feel would have the potential to win. And then they announced that my most favorite pro dancer (who was not going to be doing this season) was able to find a way to do the season. I am so happy. Derek Hough will be on season 20.

You got it, DR Elmore! Did you notice the ROBERTA sidebar on the opposite page?
And the word of the day is: THRASONICAL!
DR JohnG, do you have a nonregional DVD player?
I was telling Annalene, Simon, and Rob about the BBC GOOD COMPANIONS, and now they atr gong to rent it. Several years ago, BBC Radio-3 broadcast the complete Previn-Mercer musical version; my friend John Wilson conducted and Annalene played Susie Dean!
Well, damn it to HELL. I just passed a nice little millstone myself. Yesterday, I guess.
Loved the Porter-Sondheim mash-up in the notes, BK!
That's another great photo, DR Elmore!

I don't think that same sex partners would work at all for DWTS. First, I would imagine that the pros would not be familar enough to do this. Second, I don't think that it would go over well with many fans.

I noticed a credit on the SHE LOVES ME original cast CD (in one of those special little note credits inside the booklet, not on the formal credits layout):
Orchestra conducted by John Berkman
Musical direction was by Harold Hastings. Dance arrangements by Jack Elliott. That Berkman credit isn't on the original LP (though the solo violinist is credited there, and not on the CD). And I don't find SHE LOVES ME listed among Mr. Berkman's credits on IBDB.
Curious! (Paging DR Elmore?)

DR ChasSmith, here's Berkman's credit from the original production of PIPPIN. Perhaps Hastings was unavailable to conduct the recording sessions and Berkman subbed for him?

Oh. My. God.
Yep, that's what I said -- OUT LOUD -- when I put on the original LP of She Loves Me. It's beautiful! Last night I was shocked, shocked, at the harsh sounds of the CD, and I feared that I'd find that was just the way the recording has always been. Not so. The vinyl actually has a low end, a beautiful full stereo spread, and is about a hundred times more musical in all respects. Even the orchestra is beautiful. Regardless of which gentleman was waving the stick that day.
I put the CD back in, synced them up, made sure the volume was equalized between the two sources, and went back and forth, amazed. Granted, this was an early (1988) CD. And the record album was allotted two (count 'em) LPs -- four sides -- so MGM must have been on spectacularly good behavior in laying some nice grooves for this one. Still, the difference between the 1963 LP and the 1988 CD is shocking.
So... Who wants a free CD? :D
I haven't looked, but I wonder if it's been reissued and improved since then.
Well, damn it to HELL. I just passed a nice little millstone myself. Yesterday, I guess.
Nope, just this morning, as I was going on about Pshaw. Damn!

Maybe Kritzerland can do something with it and make it right!

The Miracle of Modern Technology. ;)
I'm unhappy about Derek Hough dancing in the DWTS season, too. Now I HAVE to watch. Derek is the best dancer on the show, bar none. Of course, if his partner is a dud, it won't matter. His partner's last name, IIRC, is Liunka.
I don't know what a Liunka is. Have never seen the name before this morning.
Don't associate with anything.
Thank you again, everybody, for all the birthday wishes yesterday. I do appreciate it.
here I am last night with my lovely leading lady Annalene.
My friend Marni Nixon just posted that her son Andrew Gold - I assume his father is Marni's ex, Ernest Gold - died on Friday of heart attack. He was 59.

DR JANE it sounds like it was a very nice time of remembrance......
Hello, still out in the desert with wifi. But is just about to expire.
Right after my last post I became friends with the sibling I met on Saturday. Now I have both the brother & sister, whom are apparently very close.
Yet another problem with Facebook - why would a post made in 2011 suddenly show up on someone's timeline. Horrible.
Still posting using my phone's internet. I hope the problem will be resolved soon.

I have that BBC broadcast here at work! I'll listen to it while I'm waiting for "Stormy Weather" to arrive!
:D

I have been notified by DRs Ben and Matthew that Andrew died several years ago. So, I went back to look for the post and it's been taken down. It was Marni's post, and I can only guess that someone dug it out of the timeline forGd knows what reasons. It isn't the anniversary of his death today, so it beats me.
I wonder what "Pshaw" would sound like through a Lawn Guyland accent.
Good mornin, allQ This is my first day to myself now that Paint Your Wagon is ready for the reading on Friday, and i slept late, and vry nicely. I am happy to report that, thanks to this job, when I am paid for my last invoice on this around March 12, I will be caught up on my February bills. It was that damned property tax that did me in. God knows what's paying March's yet. Oy!

Today, I will begin my income tax work for my appointment next Tuesday. I will also do the laundry and get a new battery for my watch. When I woke at 8:45, my watch told me it was 6:15, and I was late to dinner last night because of the damned battery, so out with old. And speaking of dinner, here I am last night with my lovely leading lady Annalene.

No new topic....
And I am off to get my blood drawn again.
